tv   The Evening Edit  FOX Business  June 20, 2018 5:00pm-6:01pm EDT

5:00 pm
melissa: and come up with a solution. david: well there's a reason they haven't through at least a dozen years and that's because it's a very hard problem to fix. what do you do? melissa: the whole immigration system. the whole immigration system. all right that does it for us. david: evening edit starts right now. liz: president trump signing an executive order this afternoon stopping the separation of families at the border saying anybody with a heart would feel strongly about it so tomorrow the vote to fix the entire border mess we've got that debate and the controversy coming up and you will not believe who is fighting over hillary clinton's e-mails it's james comey versus hillary we've got the sound and the fight. plus, we are waiting president trump's arrival in duluth, minnesota, he will be attending a rally in a solid blue collar democrat district that trump won in 2016 it is a district hit
5:01 pm
hard by factory closures, now embracing his economic agenda fox business will be all over it money, politics we deliver the debate behind tomorrow's headlines i'm elizabeth macdonald the evening edit starts right now. first your money we had some mixed action in stocks, stocks ending mostly higher depending on the indices trade tensions easing. the dow did end the day down 42 points at 24, 657 the nasdac though posted another record close facebook and netflix also closed at all times highs more in just a moment but first this. president trump heading to a rally in duluth, minnesota tonight a state the president narrowly lost to hillary clinton in 2016 with more on this fox business' connell mcshane is live in duluth, at the very latest a lot of excitement there
5:02 pm
connell: well absolutely liz and good to see you this evening as the president heads out here obviously immigration has been the big topic of the day with the immigration executive order dealing with separation of the families at the border as you referenced being signed earlier in the afternoon but when he comes to minnesota the focus may very well shift to trade. he has two events before coming to a rally at the local hockey arena the president will be attending a business round table and it's there he's likely to hear from some supporters of his trade policy. people at the local businesses here remember duluth is an important city not far from the canadian border that like the steel and aluminum tariffs. take a listen. this is putting us back on the level playing field and really a benefit. we've seen an increase in our volume and seen a lot of our workers called back not only in the iron mines but the steel making facilities that are along the great lakes system through here. connell: at the same time, minnesota as you know is a
5:03 pm
diverse state has gone blue and the presidential elections about as far back as anybody can remember even though the president's popular in this particular area, so that point, liz i was speaking to a local candidate for the u.s. senate there a few minutes ago live on the fox business network and while there are supporters of the president's tariff position like the woman you just heard from there are also farmers in other parts of the state who have their concerns, so two stops for the president first is the round table and then here, where no doubt he'll be running into some of his biggest and most vocal supporters at a campaign-style rally for now back to you. liz: you may lose your eardrums tonight connell but we'll be on that story thank you so much for being on the ground there, connell mcshane good to see you stay tuned here on the fox business network for live special coverage of president trump's rally in minnesota starting at 7:00 p.m. eastern time, on lou dobbs tonight followed by kennedy at 9:00 p.m. eastern time. president trump missed winning minnesota by just 45,000 votes in 2016 and he did visit the state just once during the campaign.
5:04 pm
now the last republican presidential candidate to win minnesota look at this, richard nixon nearly half a century ago, sweeping the state on his way to one of the largest landslides in u.s. history. now president trump heading back to minnesota republicans endorsed pro-trump jeff johnson over former gop governor tim pol enti, who called then candidate trump "unsound, uninformed unhinged and unfit." let's bring in former republican congressman fox news contributor jason chaffetz. good to see you sir. >> well thank you glad to be here. liz: the blue collar guys coming out in force for this rally you think the tariffs on foreign steel could play as well and the trump agenda is that in play here? >> yeah, look president trump became president trump because he got blue collar democrats to vote for him. i mean, trump won 30 of the 50 states and you can't do that particularly he came close in minnesota but he won wisconsin and places that republicans really struggle in because he was going to be disruptive, he was going to do things
5:05 pm
differently and because those people felt left out and let down by the democrats and their policies were not working. liz: you're looking at a live shot they're already starting to pour into the arena there. look at this gallop poll. president trump's approval rating tying his highest point in presidency now sticking at 45 % same level, jason, as obama, bill clinton and reagan at this same point in their presidency. >> that would be in the same spot the president, you go out into the heartland, it is so dramatically different than the beltway of washington d.c., where there's a lot of in fighting but they wanted a president with cut through the garbage and get some stuff donald stand up for america and so if you're up there on the border in duluth, and you see the president saying no, canada it's an equal playing field, those people are cheering and that's why he'll pack the stadium. liz: we listened to guests who say people on the ground in places like in countries like canada and great britain say they wish they had a president fighting for their economic agenda and well being rev every
5:06 pm
day like president trump. the growing number of democrat candidates at least 20 now publicly say they will not back minority leader nancy pelosi for speaker of the house if the democrats win back control. wow does this mean it could be the end of pelosi's nearly 16- year grip at party leadership >> i hope she keeps running as long as possible but look at what the democrats are fighting for. raise your taxes, fight harder for illegal immigrants than just about anything else, they want higher taxes, what is their economic agenda? and if you want to give the gavel back to nancy pelosi, and empower chuck schumer, in the heartland that just does not help. liz: in the heartland, the democrats blue collar workers get it that the democrats were for border security, before they didn't do anything about it before they were against it but here is the thing we've got michael bloomberg the former mayor of new york city reportedly spending $80 million
5:07 pm
on house races so the democrats win a net 23 to recapture the house. that's what's going on there but look at this jason another potential sign of a strong economy we have social security disability applications plunging to lows not seen in 16 years and food stamps basically enrollment at 2,000 and 10-year lows. >> key indicators in the number of people looking for jobs all of the people entering back into the workforce almost every economic indicator is moving in the right direction, coupled with the idea that the president is going to fight on trade to make sure that it's equal with other countries. that's a winning message. liz: let's move on to this, as president trump did sign an executive action to stop illegal immigrant families from being separated after crossing the border. let's watch. president trump: we're going to have strong, very strong borders , but we're going to keep the family together. i didn't like the sight or the feeling of families being separated. anybody with a heart would feel
5:08 pm
very strongly about it. we don't like to see families separated. liz: and breaking news this just in u.s. justice department officials say the trump adminitration will ask a federal judge to let illegal immigrant families be held together breaking news for more than 20 days. so that's the breaking news as well. they will be held in administrative detention centers not those run by the justice department. speaker of the house paul ryan saying the house will vote tomorrow on two immigration bills. watch. >> this code goes back to 2008 and the law should not have our government choose between enforcing our borders and forcing our laws, securing our borders and keeping families together. that's a ridiculous choice. tomorrow, we're going to have a vote on legislation that makes sure that we can enforce our laws and keep families together and it's about custody. it's doj versus dhs, a lot of you cover this issue. we're saying just stick can dhs
5:09 pm
and oh, by the way we'll finance facilities for families to make sure they could be taken care of by the way it solves daca in a very good solution for daca. liz: president trump, congressman, also saying that he will double down on zero tolerance for border security issues so he's still saying tough on the border but keeping the families together. what's your reaction to all of that? >> well look nobody wants to see kids separated from their families even those breaking the law there's a better smarter way to do that. the president is taking action the house will do something i don't know that the senate will. schumer has indicated he has no desire passing any piece of legislation and so it'll be interesting to see what the house does and can they get that over finish line, but it's a horrific problem but its been a problem for decades. this is not something that just pops up in the last two weeks. liz: you've seen it happen, you're a congressman. let's go through the facts quickly. according to customs and border data 2,342 children have been separated from adults including parents and guardians.
5:10 pm
they're part of a now more than 11,000 children in hhs custody and look at this a whopping 32, 372 unaccompanied children apprehended from last october to the end of may, so the president is moving to stop separation of families, his own party members saying it's inhumane and immoral but to your point are the house democrats going to move forward on this legislation? >> go back and just digest that number for a second we're talking about tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors who are crossing the border and then we're having to take them into custody and make sure that they're cared for. there is 600,000 people who have applied for asylum. that's the backlog. this is a massive problem. democrats when they have the house and senate and the presidency, i was on the immigration subcommittee on judiciary. we tried to highlight this. democrats are nowhere on this issue. liz: why? >> i hate to be so cynical but i really do believe they like the issue that they don't actually want to solve the problem. i just haven't seen them come to
5:11 pm
do that. liz: here is what's going on to your point. democrats have been bashing trump but were oblivious about immigration under president obama. remember when both president obama and hillary clinton said undocumented children should not come here. now obama and clinton never said separate parents from children but let's take a listen to what they said just a few years ago. >> a message absolutely is don't send your children un accompanied on trains or through a bunch of smugglers, we don't even know how many of these kids don't make it that may have gone into sex traffic king or killed because they fell off a train. they should be sent back as soon as it can be determined who responsible adult their families are because there are concerns about whether all of them can be sent back but i think all of them who can be should be re united with their families. liz: and hillary clinton was saying that as late as 2015 to send them back. >> look human traffickers, drug
5:12 pm
traffickers they know that if they do this with kids that are 14, 12 years old that america was going to take some action that benefited the human traffic king and drug smugglers. this hipocracy on the democratic side is sickening but look, the republicans have the control of the house and senate and the presidency but let's also not kid ourselves. it's going to take eight or nine democrats in the senate to actually pass meaningful legislation, so the republicans don't have all the levers of power in order to actually solve some of the bigger broader problems like daca and asylum reform. liz: it won't happen before the mid-terms is that your point? >> i think the house will pass something but ultimately there's going to be no bill that passes with a veto level proof majority so the president will ultimately get to make the decision, but they should have been addressing this a long time ago and hopefully this is the impetus to actually push a meaningful bill forward. liz: good to see you congressman >> thanks for having me. liz: next let's check your money stocks finishing mostly higher
5:13 pm
today. nicole petallides on the floor with the latest nicole. nicole: well stocks finish mixed the nasdac, the s&p and the russel all moved higher and the nasdac and the russel new highs. parent of the fox business network 21st century fox another record high as disney stepped in and sweetens its bid originally disney had it at 52.4, comcast came in with 65 billion in cash and well now disney moves in with 71.3 billion topping that comcast offer stock and cash, and also you have fox saying this is the superior proposal, and we watch tech stocks moving to new record highs, google, amazon, facebook, and netflix all at highs and by the way facebook moved its record and has instagram tv that might have helped it along as well back to you. liz: thank you so much nicole. now, this jurassic world, his name is chris pratt. he shared a message of faith and god's love telling millennials
5:14 pm
hey, what about that? how about trying that it was at his mtv movie awards speech earlier in the week. the sound is now going viral all over the internet and protests growing after a new report saying illegal immigrant babies now being held in facilities republicans are in an uproar about that they don't like it and protesters now are targeting i.c.e. agents and their children tonight a guest whose going to say they're going too far but first anti-trump fbi agent peter strzok escorted from the fbi building last friday judiciary committee member arizona congressman andy biggs is going to react after this. >> i have never, in 20 years being a prosecutor, seen a law enforcement agent with this amount of bias towards a target. metastatic breast cancer is relentless, but i'm relentless too.

5:18 pm
they pre-judge the outcome of the hillary clinton investigation before the investigation ended and these exact same fbi agents and attorneys pre-judged the outcome of the russia investigation before it even began. >> do you believe this tech shows political bias? >> i think as we found it clearly shows a bias state of mind. >> do you believe the political bias shown by this text had an affect on the initiation of the russia investigation? >> that's a matter we've got under review and are looking at right now. liz: fbi agent peter strzok whose text messages the ig, michael horowitz, just said show ed political bias that could have initiated the russia probe at the fbi, strzok was escorted from the fbi building last friday with pay. that is according to his attorney. joining me now house judiciary committee member he is arizona congressman andy biggs. good to see you, sir. >> good to be with you thanks.
5:19 pm
liz: what's your take of what's going on with strzok? i guess he keeping his job for now. what's going on here? >> well i think they're trying to run through a normal process a little late but they are trying to go through the administrative process within the bureau, but it gets to the point why was he there so long when certainly the ig released this information a year ago and that's why he was removed from the mueller investigation team, so ones left wondering why did somebody whose bias and abusing the fbi's rules, why did he end up in the human relations department. liz: to your point, congressman, one of peter strzok's texts says he "has a sense of unfinished business that was unleashed by the clinton e-mail case" and then he said now i need to fix it and later in another text he called the russia probe an" investigation that could lead to impeachment" and that was before he texted that before he joined the mueller team. he was talking impeachment before he went on the mueller
5:20 pm
team. what's your read on all of this? >> well, here is a guy that hates donald trump, wanted to prevent him from becoming president. we saw that in the initial investigation, and then he ended up on the russia investigation team leading that team as well, and so that's when he made those statements you said and then somehow, after that, he ended up on the mueller team. it shows to me that it gets back back back to what we're talking about that mueller investigation has been infested with unfair bias perhaps at a criminal level certainly at a corrupt level since the get go and the plug should be pulled it's time. liz: now this. look at this fight that has broken out right out between james comey and hillary clinton over her e-mails. okay, so here is what's going on after the ig report exposed the fact that james comey and others were using personal e-mail accounts to conduct government business, hillary clinton responded with a three-word tweet.
5:21 pm
"but my e-mails, and comey firing back at clinton saying she's wrong." let's watch. >> even at this late date she doesn't understand what the investigation in her case was about. it was not about her use of a personal e-mail system. it was about communicating about classified topics on that system liz: congressman, is comey right >> well, he's right to a certain extent and hillary clinton has herself to blame. she was using the "i was too stupid to know what's on my computer" defense and the reality is she's loaded with classified information and she knew or should have known so that's a criminal offense that's what that investigation was all about to begin with. but comey is still at fault as well, because that's why we have to go through and investigate and see, did he have classified information on his computer and he certainly might. some have indicated that he might have had classified information. liz: it looks like peter strzok e-mail to his personal e-mail account, the search warrant for
5:22 pm
i think it was anthony weiner's laptop or the investigator related to that, the investigation related to that and now ig michael horowitz confirming that james comey is too now under investigation. let's listen. >> are you investigating comey 's handling of his memos? >> we received a referral on that from the fbi. we are handling that referral and we will issue a report when the matters complete, consistent with the law and rules. liz: your reaction to that, congressman? >> yeah, well i've been saying for a long time this is the scandal of our lifetime and it just continues to drip drip drip and this is what happens when the people who are supposed to investigate need to be investigated themselves for failure, bare minimum of failure to follow the protocols but likely some criminal activity involved here so we have to get to the bottom of this. it is a sad day for the fbi and america quite frankly because it has shaken the very roots of this republican constitutional
5:23 pm
reporter. liz: congressman thank you so much for coming on come back soon. the trump white house withdraw ing from the u.n. human rights council saying it lets in on the council notorious human rights abusers and anti-israel countries to keep going after israel. also tonight, protests growing after a new report that is shocking members of the republican party. illegal immigrant babies being held in facilities but now this, protesters, some of them, targeting i.c.e. agents, and their children. my next guest says this is going too far. wounded warrior double amputee staff sargent johnny jones will respond after the break. stay there. man: i got scar tissue there. same thing with any dent or dings on this truck. they all got a story about what happened to 'em. man 2: it was raining, there was only one way out. i could feel the barb wire was just digging into the paint. man: two bulls were fighting,
5:24 pm
(thud) bam hit the truck. try explaining that to your insurance company. woman: another ding, another scratch. it'll just be another chapter in the story. every scar tells a story, and you can tell a lot more stories when your truck is a chevy silverado. the most dependable, longest-lasting, full-size pickups on the road.
5:25 pm
5:26 pm
>> quit separating the kids and separating the children. mr. president, don't you have kids? don't you have kids, mr.
5:27 pm
president? >> mr. president. liz: anger over the border controversy has been growing. an intern going so far as to yell "f you" at the president and this as a new report toddlers and babies some younger than five years old being held in"tender age facilities" after being separated from their families and the children are being sent to centers for example, in texas as well, but now a backlash growing, against the guys hired to carry out the law. actor peter fonda lashing out on twitter saying "we should hack this system get the addresses of the i.c.e. agents and surround their hopes in protest" we should find out what schools their children go to and surround the schools in protest. these agents are doing this because they want to do it. they like doing this. let's take all of this up with wounded warrior double amputee staff sergeant johnny jones. great to see you, i.c.e. agents being targeted your response to
5:28 pm
that. >> good evening. my response so this is that it's absolutely disgusting. these are men and women who put their lives on the line every day to protect the millions of americans in this country and to protect the millions of those from south of the border trying to come across. what people don't understand is these i.c.e. agents and border patrol agents are the first attempt at compassion from this country to these people attempting cross the border intercept. the idea to paint these men and women as somehow being evil or trying or taking some kind of satisfaction in crushing people or whatever it may be is emotional and it's not founded in reason and quite honestly if you can't separate your raw emotion from reasonable discussion, you've disqualified yourself from this conversation. you need to sit at home and think about what you've donald let the adults have the room. liz: so you're saying there are good men and women at the border patrol and they're being painted with this broad brush that all of them are evil and that is wrong. is that your point?
5:29 pm
>> they better be good men or women or we shouldn't have hired them to begin with so yes i give them the benefit of that doubt. every bit of evidence i've ever seen is that they are that they treat people with compassion, their own hands are tied sometimes with the types of regulations they have to treat people with. i've been with people who have turned over illegal immigrants who are crossing the property in texas to i.c.e. and border patrol agents. i've seen them treated with respect. the fact is this is a human issue but also a policy issue and to take your frustrations out at lawmakers on the men and women on the ground trying to enforce these policies and keep people safe in my opinion is immature and unreasonable. liz: sargent, occupy wall street going so far as to promote the murder of i.c.e. agents on their twitter account. they posted an infographic with instructions on how to do it. not sure why that's not being taken down, and also we have adding accelerant to the flames we've got the new yorker magazine fact checker falsely accusing an i.c.e. worker of
5:30 pm
having a nazi tatoo. here is what happened. i.c.e. tweeted this picture of marine veteran justin gartner, accused him of having the iron cross tatoo being a nazi sympathizer but sargent the tatoo is actually a titan 2 symbol for his platoon when he served in afghanistan. your reaction to all of that? >> let me explain something to you. that tatoo is a memorial of men and women who have died doing something about things that they feel conviction about. not just tweeting. so for every person, every public figure to have attacked justin gartner, my friend, let me tell you, you have nothing and i mean nothing you can say because you've done nothing for this country in the line of what justin gartner has donald your words are shameful and your actions are disgusting and even ron pearlman, your apology was pathetic. i am personally offended by this i've seen ron pearlman attend a charity event and now i know years later that as all for show and all for self-gain because
5:31 pm
when push comes to shove he acts absolutely with disgust, towards a good friend of mine who i promise you had no interest in being in the spotlight to begin with. that young man served his country honorably since the day he became an adult and joined the marine corps. he's given half his body for this country and for them to attack him with no evidence no facts nothing more than sarcasm is completely disgusting and you want to go after a double amputee come after me i've put myself out there. liz: so mr. gartner is an amputee as well? >> a double above the knee who probably suffered as bad or worse injuries with me. i recovered with him. he's an honorable man who keeps his mouth shut and nose down when he works hard every single day when he shouldn't have to for his country and protection and for anyone to go after him or those like him is disgusting, shameful, and completely without any type of character and i would love for you to come after me in the same way. you can check my tattoos out if you'd like to anyone who went
5:32 pm
after justin, and i'll show you how they're not a nazi symbol. liz: sargent jones we love having you on thank you so much for your service and sacrifice for our country we really appreciate it. >> yes ma'am. liz: now to this story, jurassic world, christopher pratt telling millennials that this mtv crowd that a look at this a message of faith and hope in god's love works. he said this in his mtv movie awards this week we've got the sound, that's going viral, and the internet is all over that one but first the trump white house did say the u.s. will withdraw from the united nations human rights council saying notorious human rights abusers as members among a lot of other things, american islamic foreigner for democracy president is all fired up after this one he's taking it on after the break. stay right there. but while some push high commission investment products,

a few problems actually. we've got aging roadways, aging power grids, ...aging everything. we also have the age-old problem of bias in the workplace. really... never heard of it. the question is... who's going to fix all of this? an actor? probably not. but you know who can solve it? business. because solving big problems is what business does best. so let's take on the wage gap, the opportunity gap, the achievement gap. whatever the problem, business can help. and i know who can help them do it. betty called me at she thought it was a fire. it was worse.

a sinkhole opened up under our museum. eight priceless corvettes had plunged into it. chubb was there within hours. they helped make sure it was safe. we had everyone we needed to get our museum back up and running, and we opened the next day. >> if the human rights council is going to attack countries that uphold human rights and shield countries that abuse human rights, that america should not provide it with any credibility. instead, we will continue to lead on human rights outside the miss named human rights council. liz: u.s. ambassador to the united nations nikki haley and secretary of state mike pompeo announcing the administrations decision to withdraw the u.s. and the u.n. human rights council, citing hipocracy and
5:37 pm
anti-israel bias. well we ran the numbers look at this from 2006 to 2016 that human rights council look it condemned israel 68 times more than syria, north korea and iran look at that, combined. with me now for his reaction dr. jasser, president of the american islamic forum for democracy. your reaction to that fact and also this, the council, doctor, has 14 countries on it, ranked as not free by freedom house. they include afghanistan, china, cuba, congo, saudi arabia and venezuela, the majority of them roundly condemned by human rights watchers for abuses. your reaction to all of that? >> well, liz you know every year and every time human rights comes up in the u.n. we sort of chuckle and shake our head and look at these countries. finally now, we have a president we have a secretary of state and our ambassador hayley now whose withdrawn and said we will no longer provide cover for human rights abuses in this sham that
5:38 pm
is the u.n. human rights council and by the way president bush, the bush administration pulled out when they changed the u.n. human rights commission to this council in 2006 and only until 2009 did obama put us back on because that administration liked to provide cover as they cozied up to regimes like iran and otherwise and i'll tell you the syrian american, if any syrian american thinks we've made any headway to chemical weapons use and other atrocities , genecides that have happened it is a joke the human rights council is a joke and i think it is about time we let them expose for what they really are which are a sham and a cover for regimes. liz: you know, doctor, nikki haley said countries quietly agree with accusations of anti- israel bias that they quietly agree with the u.s. but won't openly challenge the status quo. why is that? >> well i think it's because of the elephant in the room is the oic, the organization of islamic
5:39 pm
cooperation those are 56 muslim majority countries and then you add to that china and russia, 70 % of the world lives under some type of a dictatorship with those two groups i talked to you about and at the end of the day, they're intimidated the west is intimidated except for america now by those regimes so ultimately that's why israel ends up becoming a focus. that's why the western governments including our border policy becomes a focus, because we are constantly on the defense and i think that time is finally coming to an end. we're going to be on the offense outside the u.n. process, in the way we interact with these governments throughout the world , and not at the table of the u.n. which gives an equal vote to all of these regimes who could care less about human rights. liz: doctor, even the u.n. itself look at this the irony is this. the u.n. says this about the congo on the u.n. web page that the country of congo engages in "serious violations such as arbitrary executions, rape, torture and cruel and in inhuman
