tweeted it was fake news and restrictions would not be about china but about all countries that threaten intellectual property. the keywords for all countries they rattled investors because now it's not only just going after china. the policy confusion continues. mnuchin comments contradict peter navarro who told fox business last week that proposed technology restrictions were too specifically about china from entering silicon valley. >> the investment restrictions to be clear proposed at the treasury department and decision of the president. the purpose of those to be to prevent china from coming into silicon valley, paying a very high premium. these are not business people. they know coming to earn a fair rate of return, generate cash for investors. that's not the game. the game is to pay a high premium and useless companies for strategic purposes. confusion over the trade policy

gerri: also a big day in big day and utah won their primaries up against republican challenger mike kennedy and the gop senate primary. get this. and victor baker chelsea manning on the ballot in maryland challenging ben cardin and the democratic primary. a lot more on these primaries later in the show. cheryl: waiting on some breaking news out of london right now. british courts have to decide at any moment a worse fate in that city. trying to overturn the ruling death they refuse to operate in the british capital. they failed in the approach to report criminal offenses and background checks on their drivers. london is the biggest marketing euro. the company is more than 45,000 drivers in the city right now. the company achieved using several initiatives including the proactive reporting of the incidents to police. we shall see if that's enough.

gerri: welcome back. check in the u.s. stock futures here's what we see. the dow turned negative downtown for the opening. s&p 500 down one, not back up for. playing with the flatlined will continue to watch it. president trump firing up a warning to congresswoman maxine waters on twitter following the call for public shaming of white house officials. the president says in part, quote, she is called for harm of supporters of which there are many of them make america great again movement. be careful what you wish for, max. waters argued her comments have been misconstrued thing that she wasn't calling for them to harm cabinet members. president trump going after the agent peter said last night saying his hearing should be broadcast live.

announced it's going to be cutting jobs as a result of the tariffs. lost jobs and economic disruption. hard to imagine investors alike is despite a flat by this morning over the dow. cheryl: taking a look at harley davidson yesterday. 31% tariff to e.u. is placing on motorcycles. sales have been lacking here in the united states, but one thing to their credit saved we will move these jobs overseas and do more international manufacturing. they're already making bikes in brazil, and they will not pass those on to customers. the president doesn't seem to acknowledge that one. >> what's interesting about some of these retaliatory tariffs as they are very specific in terms of what constituents they are going after. when they are going up to middle america, they are going after right states. they are going after that e.g. business. they are trying to get political

pressure back on the administration to back off some of that rhetoric. >> are what you listen to what sarah huckabee sandor said yesterday. of course defending when asked about the new plan against the chinese in the tariffs in general. >> to trade and economic policies have been a huge benefit to the american economy and includes the creation of 300,000 manufacturing jobs. unemployment is at 320%. the lowest since 2000. manufacturing manufacturing confidence is at historic highs. cheryl: she is saying the economy is great so don't worry about it. >> i have to say i don't buy it. she didn't mention washing machine prices which have gone up almost 20% as the president's tariff. same thing with steel and timber and we know about when it comes to jobs. i have to tell you, even in the short-term as an investor i think our viewers might be more

concerned and that is about liquidity. investors don't know what the deal is going to be whether his economic bailout a decade ago or clarity from the market. it's hard to invest long-term when invest long-term in the dog with the policies going to be. you are starting to see the illiquid loans. investors are sitting on their hands. >> look at some of those 2000 companies. really quick, we did get some good home sales data yesterday so that was nice to see. i didn't really help the dow. the same time whether it's orange juicer bluejeans or bourbon, these are all american-made products, american companies that will probably had a third-quarter season going to tell us we've got a problem with exports. >> thing to remember is the fed has been very hyper focused on

>> is a horrible thing happened and we weren't lucky enough to have henry hwang, juno they will say donald trump suffered a major, major defeat in the great state of south carolina. it was a humiliating defeat for donald trump. so please, get out tomorrow and vote. gerri: rousing endorsement to get to the polls. this of a reason to be worried? robyn biro, former obama campaign field your and kevin williams with cannabis reform. i will start with you. governor henry mcmaster was the first politician to endorse trump so important there. to what degree will other primaries turn on trump and you think he's feeling the heat here? >> yes, certainly feeling the heat here, especially with mcmaster. south carolina is my home state.

how many times mcmaster has run for office and bailed. he's not the most popular candidate now. we're looking to see specifically if there is still the trump bump in south carolina and how this is going to turn out there in south carolina. the other races coming in now in new york give god the incumbents can pull through because there's a little bit of trouble there. gerri: so much going on it's true. there's a different story in every state. i guess my question today is really to what degree is trump influencing these races? i wonder specifically about the voter backlash for maxine waters. as you know she called on voters push back against the administration jason and restaurants. all about taking it to the limits really. here is what sarah sanders had to say. >> we are allowed to disagree, but we should be able to do so freely and without fear of harm.

this goes for all people regardless of politics. some have chosen to push hate and vandalism against the restaurant i was asked to leave from. a hollywood actor publicly encourage people to kidnap the children. this week and a member of congress called for people to push back. gerri: so you look at this level of social discourse and we are really in the gutter here. it's been a lot of democrats making a statement and chasing trump administration officials. do you think people will take it out on them at the polls? >> is serving up to help democrats. their narrative being when they go low, we go high. we just haven't seen that. democrats may have had an opportunity to push forward, that they have not capitalized on the opportunity. this kind of talk from the left really does empower conservatives and empower the average republican sitting at home who may not be motivated to get out for a primary or midterm election coming up.

they now see a vote in their midterm election not just supporting president trump's agenda, but in pushing back against leftist they are. that's a powerful thing. they really overplayed their hand on this one. gerri: there's even another protest this morning. steven miller working on the immigration policy. protesters at his home today because a lot of people are just frustrated with bad and they don't like the tone in political discourse right now. another negative possibly, robin for the president today though is that romney is running for the senate and he may well win. this is a guy who's called the president a con man and a felony. is this going to endanger trump's legacy and make it harder for trump to get forward legislation he wants to see? >> it could very well be the case. i'm going to say loudmouths like mccain, but basically

they haven't been able to do anything to turn it around. they're trained to save money and cut costs where were they can. filling a piece of it is only the beginning. they will sell other pieces of their business as well. >> unbelievable how quickly they have come apart. that would be down 2% yesterday. talk about unintended consequences of federal policy all about trade, the big debate over trade with some trade with some of the big semiconductor makers that ship stocks down. companies like that. what you make of this? was this overdone? >> i do think is overdone. they've rallied nicely and it's one of the strongest stocks in the market. pretty much most of the s&p fell yesterday when the market opened down a lot. way to big selloff yesterday and that creates panic for everybody in all of these big tech stocks

that people are up. just think about it. if you were on the stocks coming are taking profits. people are worried about all this news that comes out literally almost every two or three days about what is going to happen next. the next data watch this. granted there's more information about what's happening with the chinese tariffs. are we going to put restrictions will know more by friday. >> this is a just worries. s&p 500 tech sector gets more of its sales from overseas than any other sector. they are international companies. what should tech investors be thinking right now? do you say or do you go? do you sell these things? >> it depends on your time horizon. there's nothing to worry about here and overall the policy of the trump administration, what

they are trying to do is make it more fair for u.s. corporations to compete in the overall marketing for companies like in china to stop dealing our technology in the trade secret. the problem is they are doing all of these things when the long run it will help companies but in the short term you see the market reactions of volatility creating the selloff. if you are in positions temporarily come you may want to take some profit. it depends on your time horizon. >> investors moving into what they think are safe harbor. the yield curve flat as a pancake right now. melissa, thank you for coming in. >> thanks for having me. cheryl: coming up, who is ready for more soccer? chris yadav rinaldo survived a big scare from iran. all of that coming out. after being denied a big win last year, they walk away with one of the top prizes.
