8:03 pm
in singapore. the north koreans have no intention of denuclearizing. they will probably agree to have a certain number of nuclear weapons. but they poured too much money into it from the launchers to the manufacture together warheads. all those things, none of them stopped. they will blow up some obsolete test stand. we could blow up kitty hawk and they will not denuclearize. at some points we have to go to war with them or agree they can have nuclear weapons. kennedy: unfortunately i agree with you. i have went in throes of optimism that the president can do something about north korea. but i still don't trust the north koreans. the difference is this president is not employing strategic patience. this is not the iran deal, get

something signed at all costs. you have john bolton who who would be delighted to rain a hail of bullets and fury. >> john bolton is the right man for the job. i would rather be in this situation than if you had hillary in this situation. it's about time we sat down and made this happen to protect the rest of the world. i'm look forward to see what happens. but he's not launching anymore missiles in the sky anymore. kennedy: what do you say about the satellite images that show the same activity and they could be expanding. >> they could be. or they could be building something else. we don't know exactly what's going on over there. we have the tough jest president and administration and we are in the right spot. kennedy: he's right about the unpredictability. that sets a non-politician apart
8:05 pm
from path presidencies. if you can't trust north korea and we haven't been able to trust them in the past. they have essentially gotten us up to this point several times throughout various broken peace processes. what do you do now? >> they lied to us many, many times before. what brought kim jong-un to the table is president trump's very different untraditional style of negotiating. maybe hostage taking. that changed the trajectory of things. kennedy: john bolton said i have an idea of what i want to do. >> when it comes to these pictures, absent conclusive evidence, i don't know if we can say for sure they are building something else. but i don't trust kim jong-un at all. kennedy: i don't either.
8:06 pm
don't you assume they are still building something? >> they have no reason not to. they are not actually afraid of us attacking them. >> i think they are. kennedy: i think kim jong-un is afraid. >> the same thing going on with china and south korea and japan. what president trump has done is phenomenal. we haven't done this in 60 years. >> it's great to see north korea reacting. they have been running the table from clinton and madeleine albright bringing a michael jordan signed basketball to his dad. kennedy: isn't it interesting the 90s are a key to this? >> we need verifiable commitments. kennedy: president trump reported lire considering pulling the united states --
8:07 pm
reportedly considering pulling the united states out of the world trade organization. he told maria bartiromo that he's eyeing tariffs on automobiles next. the e.u. warned the car tariffs would lead to retaliatory taxes on u.s. exports. how will the trade war help the economy? is this the worst idea in the world to talk about pulling out of the wto and also slapping tariffs on those german cars? >> one of the magical things about donald trump. regardless of what you think this motives are. the fact that he says things any other president wouldn't say is what seems to grease the wheels of negotiation. maybe we'll pull out of the wto. we get reactions we have never seen before. he's changing the rules and stepping from step a to d.
8:08 pm
what do we get out of the wto besides trashing seattle. so i think that is how you get movement out of mexico, out of the european union, out of china, is telling them, there may be an incredibly unpredictable guy in the white house. >> you get a $500 billion deficit out of the wto. trade deficit. kennedy: i don't buy the trade deficit. >> i get where you are coming from. i think it disenfranchise us to pull out of the wto. we have been having a deficit since 1975 when it comes to trade in this country. kennedy: gerald ford was president. >> 1975 to even some of the years where it was particularly good. we had issues. with that being the case,
8:09 pm
something needs to change. kennedy: they have not demonstrated if we ran a trade surplus that somehow everything would be magically better. but i like the idea of shaking these institutions whether it's nato or wto. we are a part of them because we have always been a part of them. this is a post modern time and the old rules don't seem to apply. >> we made extremely dangerous deals in the past 20-30 years. and europe is waking up, and now they can't -- they have no other choice but to work with us. at the end of the day we have the right president and he'll make the right deals. kennedy: it doesn't mean the united states should be arrogant or take those allies for granted. but they do need the fact that you can have an entire nation of consumers. that is incredibly --

8:11 pm
cohen tells abc news he wants to clear his name. he would not answer any questions about the $130,000 payment he made to stormy daniels the adult film actress. he answered questions in the past about that topic. he went on to say i am not a villain in any story and won't allow others to try to depict me that way. white house press secretary sarah sanders was asked about all of this. >> was the president worried after michael cohen's comments. >> i am not going to answer questions on this topic and would refer you to the president's outside counsel. >> could you tell us if the president watched the interview? >> i will refer you to the president's outside counsel. reporter: by the end of the week cohen tells abc news that he's going to get a new attorney.
8:12 pm
up to now his attorneys have been working in close concert with president trump's attorneys. kennedy: palace intrigue in the highest. great to see you back in action. legal experts say the interview should make the president a little nervous. but does the teflon don have something to worry about? let's go back to the panel. >> we have been dealing with this for a long time. the democratic party. if you have something to say, say it now so we can move on. let this stuff go. we need to move on. kennedy: democrats are pinning the hopes of this president's downfall on michael cohen flipping. but he hasn't been charged with anything. >> that was a clear call to the president. mr. president, hello. pardon me for any possible crimes. kennedy: that's the misfortune
8:13 pm
here. kennedy: he hasn't been charged with anything yet. does cohen have the goods? and are they the kind of goods that "a" would shock anyone who voted for him or dispiepies de ? >> forget weighing said in the other interview and doing that thing where he lied under oath. it's like the joker talking to the tv. some people you can look at them and they are squealers. when michael cohen says his family comes first, that's a thinly veiled, the russians offered me something on the phone and i didn't hang up. >> if people don't care that he
