5 billion barrels a day. that's a tongue twister. that is the good news. we consume about 20. we are still reliant on foreign oil. the reality is we can't afford long-term to be dependent on foreign oil, so we are trying to get our domestic production up. this is going to be a drain on the economy up 70 cents year-over-year in the gasoline price. cheryl: "the wall street journal" points out every 1 cent reduction in gas prices with more than a billion a year in consumers hands. it is the reverse effect in oil continues to rise in gas races continue to rise. every penny really make the difference. >> think about that pretty $70 billion track on the economy. consumers got all of the benefit that will gain unwound in the form of higher gas prices.

double-edged sword when we talk about gas prices and the stock market. big energy companies, chevron, exxonmobil, good for some of those workers. on the other hand it hurts the consumer and could have been negative effect on the economy. where do you think we're at in the balance we are trying to find? >> the interesting thing about the domestic production. the offshore production yet on the other hand the shale industry has a short leap time. there are companies in industries that will benefit. we saw in the first two quarters of the year big capital expenditures being spent by the oil and gas industry. though his catalytic hopefully for the first quarter second quarter gdp growth. on the other hand we have this drag on the economy because there is this tax in the form of higher gas prices. it's a difficult balance like to see how it plays out throughout the year.

chosen will be outstanding. gerri: let's bring in ted harvey and democratic strategist. welcome to both of you. ted, i'll start with you. i want to show the list of four folks over in front of the president yesterday. amy buried one of them might be the most controversial. she is deeply religious and has been questioned closely in the past by senators because of her catholicism strangely enough. and this is the son of an indian american immigrants and is possibly the most experience in this crew. all of these folks are from harvard and cavanagh and appointed george w. bush. which of these could make it through this grueling process? >> well, all of them can make it through the grueling process. will be interesting to see who the president is considering the next batch. two to three more he's discussed bringing in. the president has had a history of bobbing and weaving and

surprising the senate in the press and he may bring somebody at the next two or three is looking at. this is what republicans and conservatives have been working so hard for us to make sure we have a republican president in position to appoint justices at this time. it's why work so hard to make sure he would quit and never stepped foot in the white house again. gerri: let's talk a little bit about what democrats could be doing to kind of robust and bought one of these nominees. this isn't the complete list. i should declare the president still knitting with more this weekend. expect the announcement on july 9th. i want to show you a treat from jeffrey toobin. this is how serious the objections go for what the president is doing. the u.s. supreme court clearly. abortions illegal. doctors prosecuted. a people apart from restaurants, hotels, stores for african-americans stores for african-americans out of philly schools. gun control ban in 50 states through the end of the

regulatory state. is this an overreaction? >> well, democrats have a 50 to 49 senate. democrats are outnumbered. there is not much they can do. the question is that will leave way as we were talking about it, not just overturning precedent. it's overturning popular opinion anywhere from 60% to 70% of americans are for keeping it as it is. it is going to be up to alaska and susan collins from maine and what they do. despite our health care wasn't the democrats. it was arizona senator mccain to give it the thumbs down. gerri: ted, tu, the president says he's not even asking this candidates about that topic.

when you look at somebody like amy barrett who might feel very strongly about roe v. wade, she has said publicly that she doesn't expect it to go away. what you think is going to happen with the 45-year-old law? >> well, it is outrageous democrats are using her religion as an objection to why she should be on the court. this is what they're talking about when kennedy was selected 40 years ago or 50 years ago, talking about religion as a litmus test is outrageous. roe v. wade is on the books. i think it will take a herculean effort to overturn that. but there are limits, whether it is notification, whether it is stopping abortions after the first trimester. there are other things the supreme court will be looking out that are important to the american people and the majority of the american people don't believe you should have abortion on demand, which is what we have in the state sector in colorado. gerri: said rosie wade with a

law. it was not paid as a supreme court decision. how likely was it that president trump nominates a woman? he indicates he might be favoring now. he's already got a number of the supreme court already. what you think? >> will come a president trump always does though at least expect from him. gerri: why? why do we least expect that? >> well look, he's also said he would like somebody from harvard or yale and she happens to be from michigan. i'm not sure if president trump is going to nominate her. we don't know. regardless of who he picks from the 25, you're likely to get the same type of injustice because they come from a federalist list. the justices have been vetted over the years. people have worked a lot over their careers to bring them up

to this point. from a democratic perspective, all of these judges bring the same type of demeanor, same type of background and will bring the same type of vote. that's what the republicans that support them want. the question becomes, susan collins, republican senator from maine. is that what she wants? overturning roe v. wade. >> last word quickly comment any possibility mike lee could sneak in here? he's not a judge, but he is 25 list. >> well, he is more important to be in the united states senate than the u.s. supreme court. as i was a one of the brightest men in the country and could easily fill the position. the president will go with one of the 25 on the list. gerri: thank you for helping us handicap the list today. we appreciate your time. thank you. >> you're welcome.
