you lost your credibility. >> order. >> if i could give you a purple heart, i would. you deserve one. kennedy: that's offensive to veterans wound in combat, you bastard. grandstanding on the left and grandstanding on the right and a lot of questions about strzok's appearance. you were in charge an investigation investigating, gathering evidence against donald trump, a subject that you hated, that you wanted to sc stop him and impeach him. can you see why that night call into question everything you touched on all of those investigations? >> i understand why people might think that, particularly based on the mix representations of extreme folks in the media, conspiracy theorists and elsewhere. that's why i'm glad to be here

today. people are calling for the release of my private interview so people can judge for themselves. who i am and judge by the facts. kennedy: strzok claimed he wants biased and he was giving his political opinion when he told lisa page he would stop trump from becoming president. but trey gowdy pushed him further. >> your testimony is bob mueller did not kick you off because of the content of your text. he kicked you off because of some appearance he was worried about. >> i am stating that it's not my understanding that he kicked me off because of any bias. it was done because of the appearance. i don't appreciate what was originally said being changed. >> i don't give a damn what you appreciate, agent strzok. kennedy: what else did we learn in today's testimony.

edward lawrence live on the scene. reporter: that hearing just adjourned. fbi agent peter strzok defended his actions. he said he can set his opinions aside from his work. he defended over and over again denying he was biased in text messages with former attorney lisa page. >> that was written late at night off the cuff in response to a series of events that included then candidate trump insulting the immigrant family after fallen war hero. my presuch shun based on that horrible, disgusting behavior that the american public would not elect someone demonstrating that's behavior would be president of the united states. it was not a suggestion by me that the fbi or me would take any action top impact the

electoral process. reporter: things got heated and they got personal. >> i talk to the fbi around the country. you embarrassed them, you embarrassed yourself. and i can't help but wonder when i see you working there with a little smirk. hugh many times did you look so innocent into your wife's eyes and lie to her about -- >> in chairman, that's outrageous. >> i have always told the truth. the fact that you would accuse meet otherwise. the fact that you would question whether that was the sort of look i would engage withn with a family member i acknowledged hurting goes more to your character and what you stand for. reporter: democrats tried to use the rules of the committee to delay it and prolong it. they called a recess. i haven't seen a con egg tengs committee hearing like this since 1987 when oliver north was

before the iran con trap hearing. >> we are still talking about oliver north but we won't be doing that 30 years from now with peter strzok. >> did robert mueller ask you if you were biased against donald trump? >> he did not. >> was it clear he was aware of the text messages. >> yes he knew of text messages but never asked you if you were biased or not. >> that's correct. kennedy: i wish matt gaetz were here so i could ask him all about this. matt gaetz fresh from the carnage. isn't it weird that robert mueller had a total lack of curiosity regarding the manner in which peter strzok's clear

bias could have affected his investigations. kennedy: i was shocked mueller never asked him that considering mueller's background heading the fbi and knowing exactly what the regulations and protocol is within the bureau. that's very shocking to me. peter strzok is right about one thing. everyone has political opinions. everyone on the mueller investigation team has political opinions. the question is how do those opinions color your actions and more importantly, how can your actions affect the outcome of something so important as a contentious presidential race? >> the inspector general's report informs on where the rubber meets the road in that dynamic. in chapter 12 of the inspector general's report he indicates the decision peter strzok made to detell a size the hillary clinton email investigation and

instead rapidly accelerate his efforts in the trump russia investigation is not a decision the inspector general could say was clear of bias. there are two rotten book end on the investigation. initially with bruce ohr being the individual supplying the dossier. and then at the end when mueller had to let strzok go, a lot of lawyers don't ask questions they don't want to know the answer to. maybe he didn't want to ask strzok whether his bias affected the investigation. because if he said yes, mueller would have had to stop in place. but he saw the bias and he didn't want to ask peter strzok how it could have affected the investigative findings. kennedy: knewer would have had to bifurcate his investigation if there was bias.

it seems like it's almost hillary regret. they say the word regret and they talk about contrition. and they gloss over their short comings, but then go into a series of rationalizations. it was interesting to me. if you were the subject of a department investigation by an inspector general, and your name appears on a 600-page document. it seems like strzok only extracted one line from that document that said political bias didn't affect prosecutorial conduct. however, there were specific passages some of your colleagues read that spoke to strzok's bias and his short comings and lack of ethics. it's almost like he didn't read that at all. what was the most of surprising

thing to come from this joint hearing? >> peter strzok lacked the ability to admit bias. his bias is clear to everyone. when he says f trump, when they are talking about trump as an idiot. it was surprising to me he didn't just dispense with that and say i didn't like trump, i have bias against him but my bias didn't affect the work i did. instead he acted as though he didn't harbor bias. this is one of the reasons half of the country does not approve of this investigation in its current form because the very people started it so clearly had an ax to grind with the president. >> it's interesting he's the character who has not seen any accountability at the fbi. he still has a job, whereas james comey and andrew mccabe

and others have been relieved of theirs. it's interesting someone in his position really -- he was the one who orchestrated and set off this conflagration within that joint committee hearing. so what happens now? is in any accountability now that we have seen him? i don't think he made the best case for himself. he did not come off like an oliver north. i remember those olli north hearings. i stayed home from school. >> he did not demonstrate to the american people he was being truthful. there is an investigation within the fbi's office of responsibility. he already lost his security clearance. and ultimately he'll be fired or leave the way his girlfriend lisa page did when people started looking into her conduct. i suspect lisa page will be brought in next. from here on out.

why would we do these behind closed doors. kennedy: you have them behind closed doors because everyone has to grandstand and everyone has to be the bird lady at the circus. it turns into a freak show which is unfortunate. we want to see real questions asked and answered. we want to get to the truth. we want to find out how a compromised human rose through the ranks and allowed his bias to affect multiple investigations. we kind of got there. but it was a long road. >> a lot more work to do, i would agree. kennedy: louisiana democrat perhaps summed up the day. >> against the wisdom of my grandmother that said when you see a circus going on, don't jump in the middle of it and expect people in the to call you a clown. i will ask questions anyway, because i think this is a

consistent. you have the democrats that advocated for transparency when it comes to law enforcement. this is something they should be using as their poster case saying the rich, powerful and well connected play by different rules. kennedy: i think you can include those wrapped into the deep state. >> exactly. this is the poster case. and in case of corruption they don't speak out on this. only the libertarian side of the wing says, you are stripping away our liberty. then all of a sudden they came out swinging. this was an opportunity for boaflt sides to come -- both of the sides to come together and say if there is an american watching what took place. i would have known one of the agents responsible for my case was texting back and forth, i would be scared.

kennedy: we don't expect people will agree with us. i don't think people in power hold my views. i expected them to. i'm delighted when it happens. but it is interesting. democrats are in a position where they are defending law enforcement and republicans are doing the same thing. who came off worse? >> i think the democrats appeared at times that they were defending peter strzok. i don't understand politically why you would want to put yourself in that position. kennedy: he doesn't deserve a purple heart. >> elijah cummings said if you are innocent, act like it. this guy came off as incredibly condescending and not remorseful at all. in terms of what was going on at this hearing today, the democrats came off looking worse. kennedy: when you go back to those texts they talk about how

trump voters are dumb and you go into walmart and you can practically smell them. it shows the opinion he had of people across the country. if people do disagree with him, he thinks less of them. >> he encapsulate why trump won the election in a lot of ways. i thought his worst moment was as an actual quarter of women. those are your late-night texts to women? what happened to you up? james comey came off big today. because at least he lied to the whole country's face. kennedy: i think there is an important contrast. i'm not a fan of james comey. but at least when he goes into the theater, he acts and he

he connected the dots in a way that has never been made apparent until today. that is this is false narrative out there that the fbi just came into possession of this dossier, this fake dossier somehow through media leaks or circuitous path. but what jim jordan did by talking to peter strong. and he had to consult his lawyers multiple times on whether he could answer this. it showed the dossier went from nellie ohr to her husband bruce ohr who worked at the doj directly to the fbi. this was straight from fusion gps to the deep state. there was no intermediary. kennedy: several democrats tried to bring up the trump-russia connection. i can't remember how it was. at one point i completely glazed over. but it was a democrat talking about the hotel meeting as

though that were the biggest refer laying and bombshell throughout the campaign. and you have the dnc funding this dossier to the tune of millions of dollars. there was a good question asked of strzok as to whether that's a campaign document and opposition research or an intelligence dossier. and i don't think he satisfactorily answered that but i think it' a critical question. >> it's research done by the campaign. it went directly. if you had a chance to watch jordan question strzok, you can see from his answers that this document went straight from fusion gps to the fbi. kennedy: they also talk about that. there was a mccabe version, a "buzzfeed" version -- a mccain version and a buzz feed version.

>> and it went straight from nellie ohr to bruce ohr to the fbi. kennedy: let's move on to another issue. there is a trade war looming potentially with china. shouldn't we be worried and who looks away first in this game of chicken? >> i was thinking about this. a trade war is like a bad divorce. the husband wins, the wife loses and the lawyer makes out with the money. consumers overseas are going to lose, and the government will end up with more money. in that way it's like a bad divorce it's interesting how the trade war started. justification for the initial tariff was national security. then when chain ka retall -- when chain today retaliated -- when china retaliated, their retaliation is based on our

retaliation. kennedy: we buy a lot more products from china. there are a lot mortar rivers there than china buys from us. so how does the imbalance there play into whether or not they give in first? >> well, their stocks did go down today by more than a percent. but when all the bloodletting is done, i think everybody's stocks go down. there is something else i have seen here on the inside that it want to tell your listeners and viewers about. when you do tariffs, people immediately come to washington, d.c. through their congressmen to try to get an exemption. sometimes they go directly to the executive branch. there are thousands of applications for exemptions to the tariffs pending at the department of commerce. guess which ones will get approved? the people with the most of political connection.
