good morning. i'm gerri willis and for lauren simonetti. cheryl: what a good day. in cheryl casone. president trump is set to me face-to-face with prime minister theresa may about 20 minutes or so from now. on monday he is spinning with russian president vladimir putin and finland. i have anticipated meeting debated across the war was some wondering if it's the right move for the president. a new fox news poll shows that 59% believed the meeting between trump and putin is a good idea. how was that meeting going to go? 31% believe will walk away with a better deal. here to weigh in as little coffee at the heritage foundation. good morning. >> good morning, cheryl. cheryl: americans seem to want to see this meeting happened but they're not optimistic about the outcome. is this a good idea? >> admitted the american public is correct on this.

it's important they around the world can meet and we were meeting with leaders of the soviet union during the height of the cold war and u.s. and russia relations are very new right now, there's no reason the two leaders shouldn't be. the important thing for president trump is to go into the meeting with his eyes open. since coming into power as 1999, nothing suggests president putin can be a reliable partner for the united states. in fact, he's tried to undermine our interests in the interest of many allies at every turn. we have to go unauthorized open. cheryl: this also in the fox news poll, 53% say that president trump has not been tough enough on russia and the fascinating op-ed today for the editorial board talking about what putin wants to get out of bed and its things like syria. he once president trump according to the editorial board to say that russia did not medal in the 2016 election. it goes on and on.

who's got the disadvantage here? >> it is interesting because many of president trump's critics suggest he would go into this meeting and just give away everything. we know this is his style. he fancies himself as being the great dealmaker and is not going to sit around the negotiating table and give away seriocomic crania and give away nato in these sort of things. this would be a pragmatic meeting in helsinki that will lead to opening of a dialogue, but a dialogue based on reality. the reality is that russia does pose a threat to u.s. interests. russia is an adversarial and perhaps an adversary in some cases. i think the polls showing most americans recognize them as also demonstrates that the u.s. has its finger on the pulse on this issue. cheryl: they also point out that

obviously wants sanctions against russia lifted. back to what is going on today come expecting to see president trump in u.k. prime minister theresa may face to face after he blasted her in this interview in the sun saying that any trade deal would be off the table as she continues on her path for brexit, basically sticking with the e.u. would you expect to see today from these two leaders? >> a few things to take from the exclusive interview. firstly, president trump, his comments would resonate very well with much of teresa's party. the conservative party is very divided the u.k. on this issue on theresa may's plan to withdraw the european union. they don't think she's going far enough. what he said will be welcomed by many parts of the u.k. the second thing to remember is president trump has been an advocate for brexit for a long time and i think he sees this in

company gets an amazing amount of sales from prime day. in fact, bigger than black friday for them. the real shocker there. let's move on. a lot of investors and traders will be watching these reports, these earnings reports to see if companies are talking about trade. are they going to blame poor earnings on trade? what do you think? >> right now earning seasons coming out today. next week and the week after that the industrial companies and manufacturers likely to be most impacted to take you by the china tariff packages inc. is where you're going to see the market saying q2 was great probably in a 20% growth expectations, but what is the outlook doing? as in particular are coming. >> i want to talk about an important story in "the wall street journal" today taking out their wages in the impact of inflation on folks wages.

blue-collar workers, for example, has seen a decline in real wages for the broader employees. real earnings are flat over the next 12 months. what is this going to do some of the overall economics pending. >> that's exactly right. phil price is coming up. which is extraordinary and you haven't seen wages coming up in tandem. at some point you are going see some wage pressure. not a particularly sustainable person whether we continue to see activity increases or keep the wage pressure down. gerri: thank you for that. before we get out of the segment, i want to show you what is going on this morning. banks are expected to be reporting earnings. they are going to have big gains. expecting gains of about 20% and earnings. only wells fargo will have a performance of about a 4% gain.
