today. guys, thank you very much. >> thank you. >> thank you. gerri: coming up, how should investors view the president's foreign policy moves? are trade issues off the table for the markets? we're looking at higher move on all three major indexes. the dow up 50. s&p 500 up 3. nasdaq up 14. you're watching "fbn:am." most of us like to be out in the sun. that's why sunscreen and other safety measures are key to protecting your skin from aging and cancer.

ben hill joins us right now. >> great great to have you on the show. >> good morning. gerri: lots of u.s. leaders walked this walk not before. bush, looking into putin's eyes and finding him to be interest straightforward. that didn't prove to be so true, right? hillary clinton having issues with the reset button. we remember that. trump today, trying to out do his predecessors. what are traders looking for? >> sure. i think if nun thinks this is confrontational meeting with putin, they will be disappointed. markets care a lot less what is going on between trump an putin. care what is happening with trump and president xi in china. we saw trade tensions ratcheted up on wednesday. another 300 billion in tariffs announced from the u.s. side.
4:53 am
this morning we saw china's economic growth came in at 6.7%. and this gives -- gerri: that is exactly right. down from 6.8%. a bit of a disappointment over there obviously. what does it mean for trading today? >> at 6.7% this still gives president xi enough ammunition to ratchet up trade talks with the united states. it might be only down 1.1% off last quarter. but 6.7% is no matter how you look at it is freight economic growth in china. gerri: all right. let me get to couple other issues. one of the other things could happen, the president could mention european union. say they are a enemy of ours. what that were to occur? >> i think that is concerned. think about what happened on friday. the trump labeled eu a foe.
4:54 am
because of what they're doing with trade. in that same statement he also said that china is a foe economically and that russia is a foe geopolitically. i know we with the e.u. not the u.s. just first. really eu. really u.s. versus rest of the world h it comes to negotiations. gerri: don't have anymore time, ian. we'll watch this week, jerome powell heading up to the capitol hill for the humphrey hawkins testimony. that is big event. >> absolutely. gerri: ian. cheryl: coming up we're going live to london to see what traders are watching from the trump putin summit. watching special early edition of "fbn:am." >> you can't rule out the possibility he might recognize russia's annexation of crimea.in russia's annexation of crimea.in >all silverado 1500 crew cab ltn

>> all of that tomorrow, wednesday is amex, ibm, thursday microsoft. how important are u.s. earnings to you this week? >> oh, vital, really, they took focus on trade war and that's a good sign and gets us on how well the economy is doing and if the u.s. economy does well, and so far earning season, it's been going very well, indeed. gerri: chris, thank you for that. cheryl: we have dow components coming out. we have the banks talking about and the historic summit between president trump and vladimir putin today. gerri: and you know, stuff that's important gets lost in the mixhere, federal reserve appearing in congress. that would be critical as we watch exactly how the interest rates will play out. don't forget the u.s. economy is important to wallet and how traders view that.
5:00 am
cheryl: thank you for watching, everybody, early edition of fbn:am, thanks for being here. we send it over to mornings with maria. maria: with early edition with mornings with maria, we will see you soon. good morning, everybody, thank you very much for joining us. i'm maria bartiromo, history in the making this morning. the last time the two leaders spoke face face to face in viet. >> going with low expectations, i'm not going with high expectations, i can't tell you what's going to happen, and i can tell you what i will be asking for and we will break down expectations. markets look like
