phil flynn is watching oil in chicago and nicole petallides on the floor. take it away nicole. >> we had a nice little populate in the day. we were at session highs. we were less than 10 points off the highs of the day on narrow list of trading. financials led the way. bank of america which i will get into. 1/3 of s&p financials have been reporting. goldman sachs and american express and travelers all this week. the bank of america beat. that was up 4%. that was key. quarterly profits were above. brian moynihan said we grew in consumers and commercial loans that helped to mach it boost and a win for them. bank of america a winner. amazon, you just noted what we saw, prime day. this is 36 hours everybody has been waiting for. we saw dramatic selloff in the 3:00 p.m. hour when the site, people were not able to access

it correctly. in fact they got this sorry, something went wrong on our end. most shoppers got the error message. they saw the dog. i had not heard completely fixed. the stock reacted on heavy volume. netflix talking to analysts all day, they are watching for some key international numbers. that is the national growth area for amazon. they all agree on that. watch for five, six, million for subscribers in the second quarter and third quarter. they seemed mixed on price targets they seem all in abundance on international growth. you might see a price hike coming to quell those burns about cash rate. it is unbelievable stock, up 145% in one year. back to you guys. connell: oil plummeting down 4%, back below 70. there is phil flynn. president trump says we'll compete soon with russia in supplying energy to europe. your take on that, the rest of

the selloff in oil in. >> i think they already are right right you now. that is one of the things in the press conference. president putin said hey, we can collude on oil prices. we're on the same side of this trade. we're both big consumers, or at least work together. more prices that go too high are too bad are too bad, too low are too bad for both of their countries. this was perception of a lot more oil coming on the market we didn't think we would have on couple days ago. the u.s. looking to the strategic petroleum reserve to raise production that came late on friday. today in the journal, we had international energy agency reporting they may raise oil from the reserve. at same time you had reports of opec production rising dramatically in iraq. gold slept through the whole thing, down slightly. back to you. connell: thank you, phil flynn.

melissa: another high-stakes summit in the book. president trump on his way back to the united states after his historic meeting with russian president vladmir putin. fox business's blake finland is live in helsinki, finland, with the latest. reporter: they have a lot of televisions aboard air force ones. safe bet the president has seen and heard a lot of criticisms hess way, just within the last ten minutes or so the president put out this tweet trying to say he has the back of the intelligence community. the president writing quote as i said today many times before i have great confidence in my intelligence people. however i also recognize in order to build a brighter future we can not exclusively focus on the past as world's two largest nuclear powers we must get along. earlier in the day the president did not categorically endorse the intelligence community when he was ask who he sides with, the intel community or vladmir putin as it relates to election meddling watch here? >> dan coats came to me and some

others they said they think it's russia. i have president putin. he just said it is not russia. i will say this i don't see any reason why it would be but i really do want to see the server. reporter: important to note the intelligence community lead by the fbi, cia, the nsa have long declared russia tried to drum up chaos in the 2016 election. dan coats, the director of national intelligence who you heard the president refer to, put out statement within hours of president's press conference, it reads in full, quote, the role of the intelligence community is to provide the best information and fact-based assessments for the president and policymakers. we have been clear in our assessments of russian meddling in the 2016 election and their ongoing pervasive efforts to undermine our democracy. we will continue to provide unvarnished, objective intelligence in support for our national security.

standing along the president and before television cameras, vladmir putin continued to deny russia meddled in the 2016 election. he was asked, gave this blunt response why he should be trusted. >> translator: you can trust no one if you take this. where did you get this idea that president trump trusts me or i trust him? he defends the interests of the united states of america and i do defend the interests of the russian federation. reporter: you can trust no one, vladmir putin said there, standing before the world. and next to the president. as for some of the criticisms, one of them came from john mccain who called this quote one of the most disgraceful performances by an american president in memory. it is 11:00 here in helsinki. a little bit of daylight. beautiful scene here. i think it's a little bit of a metaphor that there is a lot of daylight to go on this story, something that will continue on here for weeks, into months.

melissa: very poetic of you, blake. thank you for that. we have breaking news here. netflix reporting second quarter results. go to susan li. she has got the numbers. susan. >> big miss, the stock is down 9% in extended trade. i will take you there you the profit numbers and revenue. we'll talk about net additions with sub is scriber growth. that is a big miss. earnings per share coming in light. 68 cents. the market was looking for 79 cents. that is below forecast which they have done the past four quarters. revenue a little higher than expected. 369.8 billion. it is depend on subscriber growth. we're a little short. u.s. segment coming in half the rate expected by the market. 670,000 adds in the quarter. analysts looking for 1.2 million. international. this is the growth part of netflix subscriber growth. 4.4million. sounds great but below the

5.2 million analysts were calling for in the three months. looking ahead netflix talking about anticipating more competition from new come inbood entity of at&t-time warner, fox-disney or fox comcast. they wanted to play both sides as well in the future as well as international players. they are looking, giving guidance for subscriber adds in the next quarter. 4.35 million streaming additions for third quarter we're in. still a little bit light. but they talked about a strong stellar q2. i'm not sure the market agrees with them. back to you guys. melissa: susan, thank you for that. stick with us. we have a number on the screen that looked like 3.91 billion on revenue. susan forgive me i misunderstood you. i think you might have said 3.98. stock is down 12%. mikenal nunez, mashable deputy tech director, liz peek,

foxnews.com columnist and head they're -- heather zumarriaga, vision four. >> netflix continue to grow missing subscriber number in the u.s. and globally. they're looking for global growth overseas. that is more important than being profitable. they spend more money behind content and media landscape that is very common but negative cash flow continuing to pile up. that is posing problems for netflix as well. melissa: although at the same time, michael, if you look at these numbers, so they had been expecting earnings per share of 79 cents. that was 429% increase, percent change, versus a year ago. the same thing with revenue. they have been looking for 3.94, that was up 41%. they still did add 5.2 million subscribers. i'm just wondering how high the

bar for the stock, michael? >> extremely high. you have to remember this is one of the best performing stocks of the year, looking year-to-date performance. netflix set reallying a agressive targets. thus far they delivered on a lot of these things. looking forward and definitely looking into the next few quarters, next year, everyone is watching subscription count because if netflix is going to continue to grow its business abroad they will have to continue to add subscribers at exponential rate basically. so it is a little surprising to see some of this but you know, if there is any company that can repound from this, netflix is among them. melissa: as transformational company, the only company done a similar thing is amazon. look at netflix, they went from a company that delivered dvds, to becoming a streaming, you knee channel or distributor that my kid said only had stuff that wasn't good and was old, to now

they dominate and they had 112 emmy nominations, more than any other network. what more do people want at this point? >> they want that to continue and i think that is the big question. when a stock is selling 100 times forward earnings there is no room for a miss. this was not just versus the 79-cent estimate. the whisper number so to speak was1 cent the. 81 sents. this comes at bad time. this is not just about subscriber growth. you have to wonder what is return on investment in enormous amount of money, billions spent on content as others enter the field? that is the thing. we're at tipping point where new entrants are coming in to challenge netflix extraordinary success. i think they will survive, do very well. analysts got ahead of themselves in my view on expectations. melissa: i think susan has more information.

go ahead, susan. >> analysts forward estimates for earnings and a miss here as well. hence stock down 12% in after-hours. earnings per share, which is essentially profit for this current quarter that we're in, they're forecasting 68 cents. netflix is admitting they overforecast net additions for the past quarter 5.2 million, versus 6.2 million which is forecast on the street. they missed by a wide margin. as liz pointed out this is show-me stock. tough live up to valuations when you're trading over 300 times multiples. hence the stock is getting battered. melissa: heather, down 14% at this point is that fair or an opportunity? >> because they missed on earnings like susan said, this is a stock show me the money, 15 of past 18 quarters they have

beat because they set the bar pretty fair or low some would argue. 68-cents earnings per share is not up to par or speed with what investors want from them. melissa: michael predict the future for me. everybody is getting into the streaming business. they will take content away from netflix. disney, whoever else, they all want to do their own service. is netflix able to battle back once again? what do you think in nye? >> a lot of millenials my age -- melissa: way to rub it in. >> go-to source for a lot of entertainment needs. for me and my friends, a lot of people i know anecdotally, this is the best place to find best and newest content. they have an advantage, when you look at disney potentially launching a streaming service or hbo playing catch-up. i think netflix is far ahead. that will help them weather this storm i think. melissa: thanks, guys,

working on the case come an work with their investigators with respect to the 12 people. i think that is an incredible offer. connell: incredible offer aid the president. he received a fair amount of criticism from all sides, including from his own party where he seemed to side with the russian president or not answer directly the question comparing russians to his intelligence officers. we're joined by a intelligence officer, former station chief in russia, scott uhlinger. >> i was chief of station in moldova. much smaller. would often meet with russian officials. connell: dealt with russians and or soviets at the time. talk about today a little bit since the comments, the president presumably on air force one, on twitter, trying to clean things up. i have great confidence on intelligence people almost conceding he didn't handle well things today. >> i think that was some of the

progress made in the talks because the goal of our first meeting is have a second meeting as we say in the cia. connell: which they say they will. >> has been somewhat overshadowed by maybe poorly-chosen words at time. connell: seemed to almost throw his own people under the bus to be fair, dan coats head of national intelligence. >> seemed to undercut him directly. we do need to understand this, unpresident trump our stance against russia in general on all fronts is considerably stronger than previous admin is. i would like to look at deeds. connell: actions speak louder than words argument, which i heard a lot of people. i would counter don't the words matter? if somebody working in the field, doesn't the tone set from the top, by the leader in case the president matter? >> certainly true. and it is, putin i think, i should say the president understands that to deal with russians you have to sort of build them up. they have a inferiority complex.

tough fear them up. perhaps he overcompensated too much. certainly a very negative approach to relations with russia, calling it a middle level power as obama did is recipe for disaster. you're not assured having success dealing with russians by flattering them somewhat. without doing that you're sure to have failure. connell: earlier point we were talking about, a lot of what you're saying does get overshadowed, one of the first people i heard come in to say there was progress made. everybody is so focused on question and answer period between the two leaders. what does it overshadow? what progress was made? think it overshadows energy. clear from some of the body language and putin's uncomfortable statements president trump's attitude towards energy and undercutting russian energy exports which will damage russia on the world stage, saying may the best man win. it is clear that putin is a little uncomfortable with that. i think that is promising. there was talk about intermediate nuclear forces

agreement. russia is in violation possibly of some of those. we may work toward further arms reduction, provided we have proper inspections and that sort of thing. connell: final point, just to utilize your own expertise, if you were still in the intelligence community now, what would happen next? has the president soured relationship? what do agents on the ground begin working on after the summit? >> cia operations officers are out there all the time meeting at midnight running around pursuing leads. it is basically extra political. it doesn't have very much to do with the political world. we see espionage wars continue no matter how good or bad relations are. the russian interference in this election, although regrettable something they have done consistently over decades -- connell: something they are still doing. >> rank-and-file officers, unfortunately continue their work regardless of press

conference and the like. connell: scott, we appreciate your experience and expert tease. thanks for coming in the studio. melissa. melissa: okay. i thought we had a sound bite there. here is dan henninger, from "wall street journal" editorial page, deputy editor and fox news contributor. give me your take on that, what you just heard before that? >> well i think that you know, what we've got here is extraordinary state of confusion, melissa. you've got president of the united states saying in this press conference with vladmir putin, putin made a strong and powerful case against the idea they were meddling in our election within an hour or so, the director of national intelligence, dan coats, has to put out a statement saying that they have put out the unvarnished truth about russia. so the question is who are you supposed to believe of all these people? i think for the president to get to, president trump getting to a situation, saying these sorts of

things, where later, hours later, or even a day later people around him have to explain what he meant or take it back creates confusion, not merely in people like us watching this, but in the capitols of the world, among our allies in germany, france, england, japan. what are they supposed to make of a situation like this? melissa: well, when he tweets, i have great confidence in my intelligence people, however i also recognize in order to build a brighter future we can not exclusively focus on the past as the world's two largest nuclear powers. we must get along. in other words you don't go to a summit in order to insult and accuse and yell at each other. you go to a summit to try to build a bridge. this is flip side of the coin. >> i understand. not that i don't buy it. we don't know what they said in private. there were no note takers. as far as we know not that much preparation on u.s. side. president trump was going in there and feel his way with vladmir putin. but ultimately, if you're going

to do "the art of the deal" like this, if you're going to keep everybody in the world off balance, ultimately, melissa you have got to produce some results, right? that is the point of all this, get some wins. whether the subject is dealing with north korea on its nuclear deterrent, dealing on trade, we have kind of a trade battle going on with most of the nations of the world or with vladmir putin, at some point i think president trump has to start showing some progress. it can not simply be a matter of keeping everyone confused about what he is trying to achieve. melissa: how do you know he was just winging it and didn't do any prep? >> i think he may have done a little bit of prep but we have no suggestion whatsoever that there was any kind of goal going in there. they were going to talk about something like international nuclear forces agreement. vladmir putin says he has a diplomatic paper he sent to the state department. but i think now the burden is going to be on most of the people working for president trump such as dan coats to try to figure out what is the way

forward after this. i don't think they have a road map at this point, melissa. melissa: although you look last week the narrative was, israel was sitting down and meeting with putin and idea was to try and get iran out of syria and they were paving way for that, the pressure coming from the fact that the president was at the international summit with the eu talking about the fact they're funneling russia, money to russia by virtue of buying energy through that pipeline. you heard scott uhlinger before you came on, he is putting the screws to president putin in terms of the energy fight. so you don't think that maybe part of it had to do with talking about this, may the best man win battle on energy and trying to get vladmir putin to at least help get iran out of syria for the benefit of israel and everybody in the neighborhood? >> yeah, exactly right. possibly, hopefully in the private meeting they did talk about iran and syria. no one's asking iranians.

i don't know why we should assume russia can simply wave its hand to get the iranians out of syria. if they made progress on that front, presumably in the days, perhaps weeks ahead, we should be hearing more about that. if we don't hear anything about iran and syria, then let's assume nothing happened in that meeting. keep an eye on. >> similarly if your goal is to help on other situation, standing them there accusing of meddling in the election when we all know that they did, doesn't seem like advances that cause, right? >> no. i don't think so. the russians meddled in german elections, british elections. melissa: for sure. >> what are we supposed to make of the idea that he doesn't believe it? melissa: we don't know that he doesn't believe it. he didn't want to call them out on it. >> let's see progress. melissa: i hear you on that. you're right. thank you, dan. love having you. connell: we have plenty of other stories to cover, inchewedding a big one involving sinclair. set-back as fcc slamming

connell: business alert involving sinclair broadcasting push to purchase tribune media hit a wall. chairman ajit pai has serious concerns about possible media merger. charlie gasparino is all over this. what have we learned, charlie? >> as of last week, connell, the doj antitrust division was privately giving sinclair the okay approving deal on antitrust

grounds. when we reported that, the stock went up a bit, i doing hits from sun valley, that is one leg of the three-legged stool. there is case in d.c. circuit court we need to hear from that. we need to hear what the judicial panel about that but also the fcc is outstanding. as we reported earlier this morning the fcc decision was imminent t came in today, and fcc basically killed the deal, barring something extraordinary. they don't like the way the deal is structured. they don't like the way the sinclair is getting, getting around what is known as the ownership cap. you can't have ownership of too many stations. there is a way they went around it. they think it is illegal. barring that in some major way this deal is essentially done. connell, if this got put

together this would be a powerhouse, right-wing powerhouse and compete with fox news's and fox business opinion programing. that is it what they were trying to do. acquiring stations from the tribune on local level. pumping their opinion programing through that. that was what was going to happen. now it looks like it is not. and it faced a lot of criticism is from competitors. newsmax tv was one of them. newsmax, the organization, their tv network was one of them. a lot of consumers groups did not like it. is sinclair is controversial. all you have to do is google some of the stuff. the fcc says no. even if the doj approved it without the fcc, this deal is not happening. connell: a lot going on with trump, putin. this is a big deal in the media world. >> if it wasn't for the trump-putin thing i would say this is huge story. how a lot of news gets transmitted to people. face it, they were putting up a

>> to me the most important issue is the nuclear issue. because i know president obama said global warming is our biggest problem. would i say no, it is nuclear war is our biggest problem by factor of about five million. the nuclear problem, we have to make sure, we have to be very careful and you know, if you look at russia and the united states, that is 90% of the nuclear weapons. -- doing something and working with other countries. he also said he wants to be very helpful with north korea. we're doing well with north korea. we have time. there is no rush. it has been going on for many years. melissa: so that is new sound coming in from the president speaking in his first interview with fox news's sean hannity after the joint news conference with vladmir putin. here now is michael o'hanlon, brookings institution foreign policy senior fellow. what do you think of what you just heard there? >> i liked it better than what i heard in most of the other coverage which was of course

emphasis on president trump essentially endorsing putin's denial of role in the election meddling of 2016. i think that was unfortunate comment, the one i referred to. by contrast, even though on this one he decides to have a little bit of shadow boxing with president obama. it was perfectly fair. it was on good, substantive important issue. most of us study u.s.-russia relations for a long time, do so because of what president trump correctly said the 90% of the world's weapons are in hands of two countries. when he focuses on this issue, it explains the smarter half of his thinking on russia policy we have to find away to get along on issues such paramount importance to future of the planet even while we have disagreements on other things. i wish president trump would have been tougher on election meddling issue but i'm glad to see him focus on nuclear issue. melissa: what does it accomplish by focusing on it.

russia meddled in the election and created chaos and fighting and did a fantastic point of job. what is the point of calling it out in summit where the president said you get together in a summit, try to work together, not stand there to insult each other? do you buy that or does it make sense. i think it is too bad. he is right in instinct getting along with russia, he discredits that agenda endorsing putin's view there was no election meddling in the 2016 election. we know with 99.9% certainty. bipartisan agreement across the intelligence community. across the law enforcement community. doesn't mean president trump's victory was illegitimate. it simply means putin tried to meddle. putin acknowledged he wanted trump to win. that is no surprise. let's move on. let's not whitewash what happened. next time it could hurt our elections worse. president trump, he didn't just, he didn't just go silent on that

issue. he actively endorsed putin's denial. that was a mistake. but the what he said to mr. hannity i think was by contrast a more constructive comment. melissa: what do you think about the idea that really where he is trying to do battle on energy which is where vladmir putin gets all of his revenue to do all of this other stuff in order to keep the country afloat? that he is calling out european partners who are cooperating in that pipeline quite frankly, they want natural gas but that is what keeps him going? >> yeah. well, it's a concern. it is also a concern that now putin has a way to bypass ukraine. as you know russia and ukraine are at odds, they're at war because of russia's aggression. putin will have a way to bypass pipelines that go through ukraine and give ukraine some of the revenue from that trade. whether or not it increases germany's importtation of russian gas, it could reduce ukraine's revenue.

melissa: netflix shares follow falling after hours following a big miss on subscriber growth. susan li has the information. what do you have for us. >> forward guidance is light, 68 cents far below what analysts penciled in the next quarter when it comes to earnings. subscriber growth the most important of this report card. they came in light, they were below by one million subscribers. half the rate for u.s. domestic streaming additions. far short of international. guidance forward, people are skeptical, 4 million for international add, 650,000 for the u.s. this quarter this is coming after competition. a lot of media mergers on the table. fox, disney, they cited this in

what is the effect of all of that, as we move out of helsinki, whatever comes next? >> i don't think there is a lot. you know right now what is going to happen they're evaluating what happened in helsinki. remember we only saw the press conference. there was a working lunch. there was also a private meeting. we may or may not know much more about those other meetings but that was part of this summit. the summit wasn't just the press conference. so i think right now on air force one as they wing their way back, there is a lot of discussions where do we go from here. the president talked about the national security council meetings and working groups. there may be meetings at the cabinet levels, continuing meetings. i think what happens, just like with rea, north korea, there is going, there is a lot of work to be done after one of these summits. the u.s. policy hasn't changed. so they are trying to figure out a way to move forward. of course that has to be in concert with the russians. so there is a lot of heavy

lifting to be done after this meeting. connell: has to be in concert with our own intelligence community and president at least answer to the question from the associated press reporter appeared to throw his own intelligence community under the bus. the leader of that intelligence community is dan coats, direct are to have national intelligence who gave a strong speech or gave strong remarks on friday, basically we're in danger, facing possibility of a cyber 9/11 and russians are worst actors out there. the president said what he said. does the president have cleaning up to do as well on his own end? >> there will be a lot of consultations. director coats was here in the united states. there will be national security council meetings here in washington or at least at deputies level where the deputy heads of agency is, part of national security council will get together. there that is lot of work in policy on washington to decide how to move forward. the president will want to take mind of secretary mike pompeo and secretary of defense jim

mattis on these issues. we're not at a point now where we know exactly the direction and what's possible. there is a lot of issues out there as you know. so which ones are possibly could be moved, which ones are the most important to us. you have to prioritize. if everything is important, nothing is important in my view. connell: what would be priority a knowing what you know right now? i understand there are unknowns. what would you take on next? >> the top priority. let me give you top four from me is cyber meddling. we have elections coming up. that is critically important, even if the russians don't reduce the threat to us, that we're prepared to deal with it. the other question is syria, iranian expansion, that is very, very important to us. very concerned about iran becoming entrenched in syria. also i would say ukraine. insurgency going on. a lot of people talk about crimea. but also insurgency. arms control. the russians are violating arms control agreements. those are important. people might quibble with the listing, and this is decision
