justify my actions against him and i forgot apologize to mr. uncertain the companies i represent. that is what is happening right now. gerri: meanwhile, federal reserve chairman jay powell and tenet sent a picture of the u.s. economy in its famous semi annual testimony. anthony chan, chief economist at chase joins us now. good morning. several years of strong jobs, low inflation ahead. sounds very optimistic. are you as optimistic about the economy? >> i certainly am over the next 12 to 18 months because we have a tight labor market and people are concerned about overheating. at this point, some of the research i have done fine at getting people outside the labor force in bringing them into the labor force and that's one of the reasons the federal reserve

does not to worry about waste pressures. adam: that is very good news indeed. i want to turn to the broader conversation about the impact of tariff on the economy and what the federal reserve might make it back. starting with the breaking news of the $5 billion find against google set by the e.u. the e.u.-u.s. relations really at the low rate now. what do you make of this and couldn't make the issue of tariffs even worse? >> well, we know for a fact that if you have a terror war that would not be good for the economy. the international monetary fund could potentially shave off half a percent of global economic growth if we were to have a fallout trade war. our base cases we are not going to have an all-out trade war and therefore will not have to worry about the worst-case scenario. it is certainly out there and we will see countries potentially

even nontariff method. >> this is 5 billion straight in the pockets of the year. to coin a billion from google. moving on, hear directly from jay powell, what he had to say about this issue. >> in general, countries that have remained open to trade and haven't had tariffs have grown faster because of higher productivity and going into the more protectionist direction have done worse. that the empirical result. >> do agree with that? >> economists would tell the world without tariffs and barriers is a lot better and you could make the argument that the president is striving with that. one of the things as he prefers no tariffs. a lot of this may be part of the negotiation to bring us closer. >> it is a middle ground between getting to the new trade policy

and leaving dale trade policy. today we are getting an auto trade group said in the cost of a foreign cars going up $5800. that's inflation and that's bad news for consumers. would you say? >> there's no question if you have auto tariffs in this country it will hurt main street america. remember, those tariffs have not come to fruition. in fact, they lead me to believe it's part of the negotiation and at the end of the day we are not going to see those things, but we will see less barriers. gerri: fascinating analysis. thanks for that. >> my pleasure. gerri: powerful storms in new york harbor. but the storms strand is gone. fox meteorologist janice dean has the forecast for you. but dallas still loved as we head towards 9:30 opening bell. s&p 500 futures are also out. nasdaq making a play to go
