>> hey, cheryl, lauren, calm thursday in honolulu, we saw one of the most gorgeous sunsets people have ever seen but in an hour and hour and a half the wind start today pick up. many people in hawaii are feeling the storm's effects, for instance, right now a flash flood warning is in effect for parts of hawaii's big island after more than 20-inches of rain fell there in less than 24 hours, streets were flooded and this all while lane spins 200 miles southwest of hilo and now hitting island of mawi. causing more than 250 evacuees and shelters, the storm has been downgraded from category 5 but

still very dangerous. >> lane was downgraded, it's wide and very moist and it's going to hang around for a while because it's moving slowly and that's why we are taking so much precaution here. >> so for that reason parts of hawaii are still under hurricane warning and literally any minute now we are expecting to get another update on the storm from the central pacific hurricane center. cheryl, lauren. cheryl: we will have much more on the show later on, fox meteorologist adam chots will join us later in the hour. lauren: trade talks with u.s. china with no ending, concerns about u.s. trade deficit as well as china's policies of transferring technology. there was reportedly in discussion of follow-up talks. cheryl: méxico's trade officials

say talks will continue to weekend and through next week. méxico's economy minister is pushing for quick deal for u.s. officials in this renegotiation. lauren: federal reserve chair jarome powell, investors looking closely whether he offers any clues about the timeline for raising interest rates. the kansas city fed president esther supports gradual raising rates. >> you have to remember how dramatic and in some ways orthodox. i think we want to do it in the manner and communicated and i support moving in gradual fashion so we can monitor how the economy is doing and keep moving forward. lauren: jay powell to speak at

10:00 a.m. eastern time. cheryl: attorney general jeff sessions hitting back at president trump's latest criticism of leadership at the justice department. hillary vaughn has details. >> some senate republicans think that attorney general jeff sessions' days at the doj are numbered. senator lindsey graham said yesterday he doesn't think the president has confidence in sessions and maybe time for a new face at the department of justice after the midterms. but that didn't stop attorney general jeff sessions from showing his face at the white house in the middle of public feud with the president because trump said this. >> the dems are strong in the justice department, i took an attorney general that never took control over of the justice department, never took control of the justice department and it's incredible thing. >> sessions shot right back with a bold statement directed at the president's comments saying, quote, i took control of the department of justice the day i

was sworn in while i am attorney general, the actions of the department of justice will not be improperly influenced by political considerations. the doj tells fox news that they intentionally released this statement right before sessions arrived tat white house because it was look weird for sessions to stay silent. the president saying attorney general should have never rescued himself from the russian collusion investigation and says that sessions was a witness there was no collusion during the campaign. the president saying in a round table meeting with lawmaker that china's trade abuses should be getting more attention. >> i think not not focus has been put on china and that's been for a long time and we want to have big focus is on russia, not enough focus on china, we put a 50 billion-dollar number out there and the total number 250 billion. of that 250 billion is technology and high-tech and 25%

tax on that coming in. i think that economically also helps us. >> chinese delegation meeting with officials from the treasury department, senior administration officials say that we shouldn't expect a tale until china addresses some of the concerns that have been raised because if they don't then it wouldn't be a good deal for the u.s. lauren and cheryl. lauren: both countries drawing hard lines here, today president trump will head to ohio with round table for supporters and also republican party state dinner. cheryl: well, the trump administration unveiling new rules aimed at preventing residents in high-taxed states from avoiding a new cap on state and local tax deduction, the treasure department target rules states like new york, new jersey and california where residents could see substantial increases in federal tax bills come next spring because of a 10,000-dollar cap on state and local deduction, this is part of the president's tax reform package. the new rules would also hit

make of this? do you think mr. powell will address that at jackson hall. >> yeah, the fed chairmans rarely make ways at the meeting, i don't think you will hear anything from the fed chairman directed at the president. do i think he will make the case as to why the economy is at a point that can support raising rates -- cheryl: you think he will make the argument. >> yeah. cheryl: some thing he will be dovish today so that's interesting. >> i don't think you'll see anything. the market is looking for anything that say that is the fed may delay a rate rise but the frustration for the president, look, the feds have raised rates 5 times since the president entered office, but i think that's a little bit misguyeded due to the fact that the economy is fantastically, it can support interest rate rises and we need rates to rise from here. cheryl: you don't want to see

run away inflation, when you have a strong economy, you have unprecedented borrowing right now. federal deficit is something that powell has to look at, committee has to look at when assessing interest rates but if you don't start hiking interest rates -- but that seems to be traditional think if you're a fed chairman. >> you know, it's a great point because, if you relate the federal debt to federal deficit and to our trade wars, the reason that we are seeing a trade deficit in my opinion is because of the federal deficit that we are running, there's no reason that we as a nation should be running 800 billion to trillion dollar deficit at a time when economies are doing so well, i think the fed is concerned about the stimulus that we received from tax cuts and deficit spending so we don't want the economy to overheat, i think you will see the feds maintain policy that says, look,

we want to maintain growth but we don't want to see economy that's unsustainable. cheryl: the president did an interview with "fox & friends" yesterday and he made comments that basically that the bull market would crash, people would become very poor if he were to be impeached, what did you make of the comments? >> you know, i -- i don't agree with the premise there and i will tell you why, if you look at the market's reaction this week, this hasn't been good week for the president but the market overall slugged off the political turmoil. gosh forbid there's a change in the white house and there's a president pence we will see the same progrowth policies and same the type of growth that we have seen in the market but we may see progrowth policies without the trade war escalating and so i think, you know, as much as the president -- he's not -- he doesn't like to prospect of impeachment, the market is telling us it doesn't really

speech. cheryl: stocks in asia ending mostly higher, china shanghai up slightly. lauren: how is the trade fight going to hit major automakers, jeff flock has the answers, fbn:am continues right now. ♪ lauren: 5:30 in the morning, good morning, i'm lauren simonetti. cheryl: good morning, everybody, i'm cheryl casone, we didn't get to little friday, we just hit friday and hit the ground running. lauren: we have a storm, storm in washington, d.c. cheryl: top story this morning. hurricane lane is bearing down on hawaii on what could be the biggest storm the state has seen in decades. lauren: fox news meteorologist adam klotz here with the latest. what do you have? >> it's a big storm.

120 miles an hour, only moving north at 6 miles an hour, any areas that have been getting rain will continue because it's moving so slow. that's been the the case in hawaii's island. some spots have seen as much as 2 feet of rain, could eventually could see 3 feet. they are still going to be big showers for a lot of folks here in 18 hours or so. currently category 3. will move towards the island and make sharp turn to sea, slowly weakening a bit. category 3 to category 1 storm, does make difference how close it hits rainfall. i want to leave you with forecast models.

number of different tracks, some sooner and other later. that will make a huge difference, but whether this hits or not people will be hit with heavy rain as they are. lauren: the 300,000 tourists that are there. cheryl: back here on mainland the trump administration is likely pushing back its tame table for imposing tariffs on auto import, the companies that build cars in the u.s. and sell to china remain concerned. lauren: jeff flock in details in chicago, jeff: you know they made 13,000 ford explorers that they sold in china last year and sound like a lot but dwarfs the number of german automakers that make cars here in the u.s. and ship them to china, take a look at numbers, bmw and mercedes, biggest sellers in china of cars made in the u.s., bmw x5 and x3,

80,000 plus of those sold in china last year, 40,000 mercedes gle's sold over there. so if you look at the numbers overall, by far the biggest hit is on the german who is have elected to build plants here in the u.s. now employing about 12,000 workers between them bmw selling over 100,000 cars in china, mercedes benz about 72,000, ford was number 3 with just 45,000. gm we should point out although it now sells more cars in china than it does in the u.s., they tend to make most all of them in china for that market, only 2,000 plus gm cars were made here in the u.s. and shipped over to china, they are the only ones subject to tariff, all the other german vehicles subject to that tariff, 40% tariff by the way when it comes down to, and it was 25% tariff before it all started, they reduced it, chinese did to 15% and

concession to president trump and then when he upped the ante they upped too another 25%, do the math, 40%, by the way, biggest seller among u.s. auto make nester china, well, lincoln mkz made here in the u.s., sold in china, they sold 17,000 of them last year in china. those were the only ones subject to tariff going forward, cheryl, lauren. complicated story, tariffs, we try to break it down. lauren: we do try to break it down. as u.s. and china negotiations seem to be going nowhere, american consumers caught in cross hairs, one company using artificial intelligence to compete with low-cost chinese manufacturing, ceo of software wear automation, we are talking clothes, robotic sewing

machines. tell me what your company does? lauren: creates robot, manufacturing of apparel and sewing projects. how hard would be it be to bring back to the u.s.? >> pretty significant effort in bringing it back but in the past not feasible because labor costs were so high, you couldn't compete on the sewing automation was the last piece and with technology we solved that and now essentially it's capital invest noant start migrating the supply chain back to u.s. we have fundamentals reasons for that, right? lauren: speed and cost?

>> yeah, absolutely. by the way, we buy 3.5 billion t-shirts a year in the country and 98% is imported. lauren: wow. >> there's a lot of economic reasons to come back and automate it. we are bringing robotic operatos and high-tech jobs to create local supply chain and that really serves the consumer better and it's a lot of multiple benefits for doing that. lauren: how fast can you make a t-shirt, for instance and how much would it cost at production? >> so we can have a t-shirt from our system, could be one every 25 seconds. so our robots, t-shirt work

line, t-shirts every 25 seconds and same cost of importing from china from a blank t-shirt. retail cost is the same but the supply chain on blank shirts it's usually 4 to $5 in the u.s. and we can produce it for less than that. lauren: do the machines are dixterity of human beings? >> we can make t-shirts, we can make home goods, pillows, pillow covers, towels, other simpler pieces in the future we will have jeans and other products but right now focus, to make 3 and a half billion, you know, t-shirts, we want to bring with automation, we want to bring back manufacturing of billion t-shirts back into the u.s. in

campaign, you know, the only reason i gave him the job because i felt loyalty, he was an original supporter, but -- cheryl: but sessions was firing back, we have unprecedented success, while i'm attorney general the actions of the department of justice would not be improperly influenced by political considerations, for more to all of this brad blakeman, the why here, why did sessions put that statement out before he went to the white house yesterday before he went to meet with the president on separate issue. >> i think he we wanted to clear the air and get side out. the problem is and i happen to agree with lindsey graham. he doesn't have the confidence of the president, the only question is when does he go, it's not convenient for him to go to midterms, trying to have that issue for democrats would be gift but i happened to believe that sooner rather than later at midterms it's probably

a good move for both men to move on and get a new attorney general. cheryl: you mentioned lindsey graham. let's let viewers listen to exactly what he had to say about the whole thing. >> the president is entitled to attorney general he has faith in and somebody qualified for the job and they'll come a time sooner rather than later where it will be time to have a new face and fresh voice at the department of justice, clearly, attorney general sessions doesn't have the confidence of the president. cheryl: but, you know, in sessions'', we want to keep the department of justice separate and nonbias, many, of course, are arguing that that's the last thing that's happening at the justice department because of the mueller investigation we still have no collusion, we are looking for it and still don't have it. >> it's hard for somebody to do their job when their boss clearly trashes him routinely, so you need to be -- you need people around you in the cabinet, in the white house that

you have ultimate confidence and faith in. so i think it makes good sense for sessions to move on, the timing is everything in politics and i believe the best time would be as we head into the new year. cheryl: well, what about -- brad, what about after the mueller probe is concluded? seems to me that's -- seems to me he's been advised, the president has, don't fire sessions in the middle of mueller probe because it's going to look like you're trying to obstruct the process? >> i don't think that's the case here. it's clear the men have differences. typically a cabinet member serves about 2 years, that's about the tenure we are reaching with sessions, the mueller probe can go on. there doesn't seem to be end in sight. that's another problem, the fact that the longer this goes, the worse it gets. cheryl: real quick before i let you go, i've been told that you know the ford executive that
