"fbn:am" starts right now. lauren: it is wednesday, september 12. good morning. i'm lauren simonetti. cheryl: good morning. i'm cheryl casone. mass evacuations underway in the carolinas and virginia as hurricane florence approaches the east coast. states of emergency for all three of those states.

lauren: that's because florence is a monster category four storm right now maximum sustained winds of 130 miles an hour. jonathan is live in north carolina with the latest. we were just looking at video people leaving. is that what you were seeing and hearing from residence? reporter: it is. most people say they plan to get out this barrier island community it will be very exposed when the storm made landfall. other than a few sprinkles right now it's calm giving people their last couple of hours before mandatory evacuations going place at 8:00 a.m. on this island community. governor laurie cooper of north carolina is urging people to make-- take the warning seriously. >> the waves in the wind this storm may bring us nothing like you have ever seen. even if you have ridden out storms before this is difference.

don't bet your life on writing out a monster. reporter: longtime residents are likening the storm to hurricane hazel which devastated the community in 1954 in wrightsville beach of the nearby city of wilmington on the mainland. residents and business owners are boarding up when it does in securing up loose items in hopes of minimizing the damage. many folks i normally stay put during hurricanes plan to evacuate this time. >> it's about a 50/50 mix this time. most of the time my friends are pretty tough i think most of us are, but i think this time they got a little worried and it's about 50/50. >> i know of more people living because i live in a college a living apartment and a lot of people are not from here and they decided to leave because they are not used it to this and they're getting freaked out. reporter: by karen wrightsville

beach beach, mandatory evacuation takes affected 8:00 a.m. this evening beginning this evening to predict water system town officials plan to begin shutting down the water system and also say when the storm comes ashore the power will most likely go out so for the few staying on the island conditions will become very primitive. lauren: thank you. we are looking at storm related stocks also gaining yesterday. home depot and lows gained at least one half percent. general act holdings which makes generators gained more than 1% and then insurance stocks that we watch when we have major disasters. you can see all state and travelers and progressive gaining ground with aig down two thirds of 1%. cheryl: unfortunately and jonathan mentioned this some people in the area say they are not leaving. >> we were going to evacuate, but now, we

are deciding to stay in doubt. feel like i don't want to get trapped in gridlock. a little worried about that. we got generator to net type stuff, so it was really about boarding up last-minute windows. cheryl: charlie joins us now. good morning. >> good morning. cheryl: we have the 5:00 a.m. update. 130 miles an hour sustained wind, but the storm is described as a triple threat, something we have maybe not seen in a lifetime yet people stay they want-- as anyone estate. what you say the intent-- to them? >> in many cases in the past when storm major hurricanes that hit they have said i'm going to write it out where i am. by the time they hit they wish they had not. this will be one of the storms that is not like a storm in recent memory for the carolinas. we will see incredible storm surge or wherever

it comes ashore between about wilmington and myrtle beach we will see storm surge of piling up the water about to 13 feet, that's over a story i and with low lying areas along the coast much of the coast where it hits will be inundated with potentially category for wind, 140-mile an hour so about what its forecast to hit with now and on top of that you will have up to 25 to make 30 inches of rain as it slowly moves inland. that will lead to incredible numbers of power outages. the folks that survived the scare of the storm hitting along the coast than have to deal with many days of power outages. cheryl: i want to show our viewers. you were going through some of those numbers but i want to bring this to our viewers 15 to 25 inches of rain that can be isolated up to 35 inches. no electricity for weeks and also again when they describe this as a triple threat even the

governor said it looks like you love storm surge along the coast line and sitting basically stalling of the states of north and south carolina. that is a harvey type of storm we are talking about and then the wind as well. what type of damage do you think we are looking at here? >> along the coast there could be some areas where the storm i affects there will be level and we could have substantial area along the coast that are completely inundated with water perhaps for the first time ever in some locations and after that much of north carolina now with this more southerly turn after it hits going into south carolina we see a wider area with that way 5-inch rainfall perhaps higher in some spots, so significant perhaps record-breaking flooding will occur after the hurricane hits. cheryl: we are out of time, but do you think we will see loss of life? >> i do think people who choose to stay definite

threat of loss of life and the flooding after. cheryl: charlie, thank you for being here. see too many people are trying to get out of harm's way and they need gasoline. north carolina unfortunately already experiencing gas shortages with the state preparing for hurricane florence. cheryl: we have some headlines making news this morning. reporter: oilless-- oil analysts say there is panic buying in some places in the carolinas as drivers rush to fill up before the storm. the website gas buddy reports about a percent of the stations in wilmington and 4% in raleigh-durham have already run out of gas by midday tuesday. there is concern about flooding and the potential impact the colonial pipeline which carries more than 1 million barrels of gasoline from texas to louisiana to the east coast. most of that pipeline is inland. cheryl: how our wireless providers preparing?

>> kind of like utilities they are staging in getting ready for the aftermath wireless providers like verizon, at&t are staging repair support crews to move in after the storm. the high-tech emergency gear has animal related names like cows, colts cells on trucks, crows and goats generators on trailers this is designed to replace cell towers and the wi-fi infrastructure which may be damaged by the storm. lauren: the other big story today's apple with a major event what products you may expect? >> talk about a storm with excitement. you can expect a major overhaul. apple's iphone, the website reports the new iphones will have cutting-edge technology and there will be a new larger 6.5-inch version of the apple access called the iphone excess , almost a person with access. it will be more expensive than the

think they will have a lot of sway to negotiate. cheryl: jason, listen to a president trump had to say about where we are canada. listen. >> with canada they want to make a deal very much me? if we make it that's good and if we don't make it that's okay. canada wants to make a deal. we will see if we can get them in the deal. we already have it with mexico. i think the deal with canada is coming along very well. we have been dealing in good faith. cheryl: we know president trump doesn't always stick with what he has to say in particular with these negotiations. he may change his mind and say i don't care canada is part of the agreement. >> i mean, we have seen that before, but again so far it has paid off, i mean, look at what europe has come into the united states and said they were knocking to give concessions on autos and look what happened. i do think that this will be broader or part of a broader economic trade package, which

lauren: it's being called a storm of a lifetime with hurricane florence barreling towards the carolinas and millions are being urged to leave. cheryl: fox mere out just janice dean has been tracking the storm you are the one i heard say storm of a lifetime. janice: the wilmington office, north carolina put out their bulletin last night and called it potentially the storm of a lifetime, so category four, 130-mile an hour sustained wind. there is some uncertainty as we go through the next couple of days, so listen to your local officials if you live in the carolinas. even george eight, you need to pay attention. the storm will slow down when will it make landfall? who will get the most impact? still to be too determined. as you see we know pre-much what will happen thursday, friday. high-pressure that is

anchored across the atlantic steering is now will weekend. it will slow down. will it make landfall? will it move inland? will this area get a prolonged event of storm surge and hurricane force wind and rain? read will be the legacy of the storm and again we have a good agreement on all the forecast models as we go through tomorrow afternoon, tomorrow evening and then we are not quite sure. unfortunately, because we don't have the steering mechanism the potential for stalling along coast could be potentially devastating for these areas along the coast. will it make its way inland in the install and then dump of feet of rain across these various? that is also likely. the bottom line is a lot of uncertainty. i wish i could give you an ironclad forecast. bottom line is the carolinas need to watch this spirit georgia needs to watch this. tennessee river valley needs to watch this.

orders extremely seriously boarding up their homes and businesses like we see here. also, look at the road behind me. we have seen a handful of cars, but not a lot of car so far on this wednesday morning. that said, despite the warnings about the storm of a lifetime as they are calling it a lot of people we spoke to said they are not going anywhere. >> i'm going to stay at my dads house and see what happens. this is home. this is where i feel comfortable and right now i don't see me reason to leave. >> we are staying here. we stayed here at matthew wood had a ball right here. i think it will wipe out we will stay right here until it washes the building away. we are not scared to leave. reporter: those that heeded the advice to leave hit the road yesterday with major backups along the south carolina coast. around noon they

lauren: we are looking at the storm related stocks this morning with many hitting record highs including lows and home depot. generous holdings make electric generators and not more than 1% yesterday. mixed performance, allstate, travelers and progressive insurance of slightly with aig following fight the. cheryl: we are monitoring the potential impact of hurricane florence on commodities. we always talk a lot about oil prices when we have these gulf coast storms and their eggs are threatened. this storm is on a different track. what does that mean for commodities? >> it will knock out power from north carolina probably down to georgia. that is one consideration before we get to that i want to say my company has changed our track. we had the same track for seven days to cape fear so from last

wednesday we had it hitting cape fear alert late thursday night friday and i think i will still happen almost on top but keep fear friday morning, but instead of continuing inland it will turn southwest and come down the coast with unprecedented track. instead of like matthew which came up the coast of this is coming down the coast tickets bought by high-pressure system which means the entire coastline all the way perhaps to savannah could get hurricane force wind. the good news is that it will weaken as it does it. instead of a category for near cape fear late friday night saturday by the time he gets to savannah-- cheryl: you are forecasting-- i want to make clear because we have a lot of different models and we hope this sleep have a meteorologist with different models, but you are saying georgia and maybe some of florida? >> lets me say something about model apology.

the models are only as good as their weaknesses and they have the specific biases. the us model is usually bias too far north and what we have seen now is the european that has shifted his track in line with the building ridge of high pressure that will develop over the great lakes this weekend because that's the first building bridge. folks, what happens is a gets to the coast and then there is a handout to the second line i have seen storms move southwestward offshore. the yankee storm and 35 wound up in florida. so they've done that before. if you look at the track of jenny and 63 she did three loops of the carolinas, so that has happened before, but further offshore so we believe that this will stop right near cape fear. we always thought it would try to stop and start in the coast. if you notice that hurricane center track has been pushed southwest. every time they update

you see a further southwest, so with our track i'm taking it a step further and saying you folks in south carolina all the way to georgia-- cheryl: need to be ready. we are out of time, but even janice said earlier that you just don't know. you really don't know until the storm makes landfall and that's the scariest part. it's always great to have you on your could this is your arena. appreciate your time this morning. >> i appreciate you having me. lauren: us regulators are reportedly unsatisfied with the repayment plan from wells fargo. adam shapiro has that story. reporter: good morning. unsatisfied is putting it nicely. regulators rejected the plan to repay customers that it allegedly cheated and told the bank try again. wells fargo has to do more to prove it's found every single car owner and driver, about 600,000 people who were pushed by the bank into

buying a necessary auto insurance. wells fargo's $1 billion settlement with the federal government requires the bank to repay its car loan customers who were forced to purchase that insurance. another scandal for wells fargo. cheryl: another hit your quest going on with the fcc's review of teen mobile and sprint merger? >> slowdown, but not dead. the federal can medication commission said it needs more time to conduct a thorough review of the informal review to analyze the information from both companies and those companies responded and said we appreciate the fcc taking its time. i have a bridge in brooklyn to sell you. the merger is expected to close sometime in 2018. a formal analysis as opposed to an informal analysis kind of like language in spanish. lauren: like putting together ikea furniture.

cheryl: welcome back. lets get caught up on what's happening with the look at futures. and they are looking hire with the dow jones up 25. nasdaq up 17. the "wall street journal" is reporting president trump is leaning towards the next white house counsel. serves as part of the counsel. the news comes after rumors are out there that he is planning to leave his role as a top white house attorney stomach according to the labor department job openings reached a record 6.9 million mark in july since the start of the year the number of job openings have increased by nearly 12% and a study shows small business owners are more optimistic.

the rumors or are you selling the stock because you're not a fan of that news or you're worried about trade fears? >> i'm definitely not selling those stocks. most is in existing home because it's already such a large percentage of so many portfolios and everyone knows it if you think about it. its 4 cents of every dollar. if you own tech index is probably an eighth of what you own. it's hard to fight that trend and i think the average cost of an iphone is what's driving the price today. that's what apple's hopeful for, but i'm encouraged by some things behind the pricing in the new model. lauren: when you say the average cost of an iphone i assume you mean apple could still sell them in some instances for starting price of the more expensive model, $1200. you were saying they can still do that and customers will still pay that? >> in a way. as they bring out new models and potentially
