lauren: in europe stocks opening higher as investors await policy decisions. cheryl: stocks in china getting a boost on hopes the us and china can resume trade shock-- stocks. lauren: apple takes the wraps off its biggest and most expensive iphones ever, but it's the watch that will be the real winner here. "fbn:am" starts right now. lauren: 5:01 a.m. in new york. it is thursday, september 13. i'm cheryl casone. lauren: i'm lauren simonetti. hurricane florence downgraded to a category two storm, but expected to bring a storm surge and rainfall to the carolinas. cheryl: more than 10 million people are under storm watch and warnings right now.

christie is live in myrtle beach, south carolina, with the latest. reporter: what we are seeing now are some palm trees behind me and it looks very serene, slick vacation, but that's the case. this area has been evacuated. officials are saying pretty much about 60% of people have evacuated. you just mentioned it's been downgraded to a category two storm which is a hundred 10 miles an hour. that still doesn't make it easier for the people that decide to stay or the infrastructure in the area. this hurricane coming up this know there and post is so wide. just the center of the storm spent about 80 miles in the kobe on that about 200 miles and that would cover this entire coast behind me. the peculiar thing is that it's moving so slowly, so when it eventually hits around the myrtle beach area we

should see huge effects saturday all the way in the sunday because the storm is slowly going to move and it's going to have strong wind and strong rain. that's the part that's concerning. we expect flash floods and about 75% of fatalities come from these flash floods and massive storm surges when the ocean where the waves rise higher income inland. what we see around the area, we landed in the airport yesterday. all the businesses in the airport, restaurants were closed because of shortage of staff and when you go into town we struggle just to find a convenience store supplying food and gas cans. the only location open was a chinese restaurant with a two star yelp review and it was packed we will be here bringing you the latest on what's going on on the ground. cheryl: christina, thank you. i would only know hurricane stocks have been rallying this week

see the potential for upwards of 30 inches of rainfall and in some cases higher, so that will create this tremendous flash flood threats and as your reporter mentioned, flash flooding kills more people than anything in the situations three to 1.7 million are under evacuation orders, 1000 plus flights canceled for friday. power loss here for weeks, up to three weeks. with your numbers like this what do you say to the people that say they will write it out? >> i think you will see conditions for an extended period of time. we will not only have power outages for days and a lot of cases water service will be completely knocked out for days and in some cases even weeks. with the flooding coming in you will be trapped in those hardest hit areas and travel will be cut off because rose will be submerged and we

some say there is hikes already happening. can we wait until the midterms to solve this problem? >> there is another dynamic that wasn't mentioned in that release and that the fact that we have a booming economy. the economy is rocking. people are getting wage hikes right now and that's because of a booming economy. that inputs on input course as well so i get the fact everyone is concerned about trade, but i think what china will realize and what we need to understand is the math doesn't work for them. they cannot match as dollar for dollar and at some point they will have to sit down at the negotiating table. of they are already feeling it in their own economy. they have a problem. cheryl: hopefully it will really begin to hurt the heartland and maybe these talks could be productive. david, thank you. >> thanks for having me.

got the dow jones industrial average lacking. i think it's lagging because of the tensions with the chinese trade tariffs because look what the market did just on the fact that we had mexico come to the table and do a deal and now maybe canada and i also think they will. i think this is really just a black cloud or some sort of ball and chain because of china and once we get through that this dow theory will take place. cheryl: i think there is something to. if you look at the yarn from the market yesterday when the journal reverse that steve mnuchin reached out to the chinese to say look let's restart talks in washington and come back to the table. i want to ask you about an overall if you look at the transport even the airlines have been doing well, but that's because of the economy because wages are up and the tax cuts have kicked in for the average american. is that a past-- past
