for us? >> it's not just tijuana. apparently there was a couple of busloads of these hondurans shipped from the capital state of sonora down to some of the border areas here in arizona. my fear is that you have way too many people coming into this country and do you not know their intentions. individuals need to be vetted properly before they enter this country. when you have these people screaming and yelling atrocities at border patrol, screaming and yelling atrocities about border patrol and our president waving flags of their country. it has nothing to do with race. trish: the president tweeting, you would think if they were coming here for a shot at asylum and a better life. why are they not maybe holding an american flag. why are they holding their

but we get a preview for you. here is president trump. president trump: what they said is we have to create rules and regulations for contact, et cetera, et cetera. we are going to do that. if he misbehalf is we'll throw him out or stop the news conference. chris: what will your rules be? president trump: we'll have rules of decorum, you can't keep asking questioned. we had a lot of reporters in that room and they were unable to ask questions because this guy gets up and starts doing what he's suppose to be doing for him and cnn, and just shouting out questions. and making statements, too. but i will say this, nobody believes in the first amendment more than i do. if i think somebody is acting out of sorts, i will leave. i will say appreciate you coming and i'll leave. trish: that's what he should do.

he doesn't need to call on jim acosta. i do bleach you need to treat the president -- i do believe you need to treat the president of the united states with respect. the american people elected him. if you respect the american people, respect the president of the united states. if i did an interview with president obama or even today:president barack obama. whether it's obama, whether it's trump, whether it's clinton, whoever it is. nick who has been the president -- anybody who has been the president of the united states deserves some decorum. you don't shout and grab the microphone and not turn it over when someone tries to take it from you. that is not acceptable behavior. these are things that these reporters should know. but if they don't, perhaps he needs to train them a little.

platform and take the microphone away from jim acosta himself. fortunately he didn't. i thought he showed descent decorum in a lot of these press conferences. it's not easy when you have reporter after reporter screaming aught, yelling at you. it's one thing in a gaggle. but another thing when you are sitting in a traditional-style press conference. >> he took 68 questions from 30-plus outlets for over an hour and a half. that's a lot of decorum. that's something even many white house correspondents will tell you, they have more access to president trump than they ever did to president obama and george w. bush. one of the reasons why president trump was elected is he's beyond decorum. he's actually about action. trish: mallory, you just competed in a congressional race

[laughter] trish: me, too. what you think of jim acosta in the situation as it stands now? >> well, i don't know if it changes anything this ruling about the perception of jim acosta or cnn but if you talk to privately the people at cnn the old school people that event there for more than a decade they find them to be narcissistic and attention seeking and this is a time when cnn is struggling not only from an integrity perspective but from a ratings perspective but they copy last month in total viewers by the hallmark channel let me tell you is on the hallmark channel. switched for christmas. identical twin sisters are struck planning their respective crystal parties that is beating

cnn in this new cycle which as you know is a gift cable news and you must be doing something wrong. it's because jim acosta is trying to be the story instead of pursuing stories and viewers are starting to go away from that. trish: you saying - i know jim and we use to work together years ago and he never struck me as so self-serving in that way but in this particular environment joe, it's so nutty and crazy the idea that a reporter thinks they can shout questions to be so aggressive there is a sense of is the president of the united states and the american people elected him. that in and of itself you should show respect for the will of the american people. anyway. >> right. look, during the test conference last week president got 60 questions from 35 reporters. i believe that's to a reporter. jim acosta thought he was entitled to not only lecture the president and then go into a

soliloquy around what is an invasion and what is not but then to ask for questions is time to give up the microphone he did not do it. give major garrett credit. he's one of the people who stood up in an interview yesterday went up to me to give up the microphone, i do it. that's what he should be doing but he knew it would lead to the competition that led to this and now we get the oxygen that he likes most witches attention and i may. trish: i may get in trouble but i saw that young woman there and she was no match for him. he hung on that microphone just because you're bigger and stronger you get to hold onto it if that have been me asking the question and some big bouncer type came up and wanted the microphone but the optics of it were not good and it rethinks his approach at the white house but we'll see what he does next week. >> he will not but he will double down on it. and all eyes will be on him but will do something to incite accommodation or if he does get caught on hill call on the
