one that doesn't seem to be improving, gordon is with us. good to have you here. welcome back from tokyo. good to see you. let's start with the targeted tariffs the president has implemented and more to follow if the chinese do not come to their senses. this has to shock places like goldman sachs and the establishment forces lobbying against these tariffs. your thoughts? >> all the smart people he talks about how the american consumer would be the one paying for the tariffs are wrong. it's because the administration picked out the areas where there was a lot of elasticity. >> there goes gordon using economics. very peopl few people talk aboue
7:17 pm
elasticity or the ability to substitute goods or delay purchasing based on price. >> when you look at the broader picture of what the trump administration is doing, he is encouraging supply chains to get out of china. that's important because they are held hostage by beijing. whenever they get upset about something they go against our companies. >> and sometimes we use the word supply chain is used too liberally when really the world's production of products in china. and a dependence upon china for that production. that has got to change obviously. other things have to change, one, it's a communist governme government, they have colonial at times but certainly imperial imperatives within their foreign

policy. they seem to be shocked that american president would resist as this one has. >> for more than a decade they have been dropping hints that china is the world's only sovereign state. what he saying is that americans, japanese, whatever are just mere subjects to the greater glory of the chinese court. those trade that we have, our factories in china are producing profits that they're using to put into the military to fight americans. there is a long chain. china needs an enemy and they have identified us. >> we should of been too hard to spot, we are the only superpower in the world. this is a country under this president that is not recognizable to the power structure. >> one thing president trump has done this year's taken actions

to defend the american economy. chinese leaders don't how to deal with it. they try to talk with henry kissinger for the heads of financial companies. >> wall street has been carrying out with the vice president referred to as lobbying exercise, calling wall street participating in the chinese call for discussions on registered foreign agents. that's what they are. kudos to the vice president for saying that the way it is. >> we saw that september 16 meeting before the midterms. the chinese were trying to use the heads against the united states and it didn't work. >> it hasn't worked so far because the ceos didn't take them up on the offer. but they dispatch their minions

and straightforward does it meet the test of due process that judge kelly asserted. >> at step one. first you have to have the rules announced in advance and then you have to have a warning to be heard in response. i think it remains to be seen whether acosta is going to carry out his part which is either behaving or justifying his action. if he chose the line that everybody will be better off. if he doesn't then yes, the white house has the right to look at proceedings in response. >> there has always been rules of decency and decorum that white house correspondents have practiced when i was there temporarily. i knew the rules and i abided by the rules. and then comes jim acosta.
7:29 pm
they feel like they have the right to be rude, abrasive and commandeer the news conference and argue with the president. >> you have to believe they are little upset, the white house press corps that he has messed it up. >> if i were press secretary the next time acosta pulls that i would say that's the end not only today but for the rest of the week. and his colleagues would have surrounded him and threatened to tar and feather him and kick him out. >> they would had a ball with that. let's be honest. isn't there a time where you have to tell a district court judge to go to hell. the idea that you have to follow the district court judge and create rules and cannot run the white house the way it has been.
7:30 pm
>> to be fair to the judge, if you look at his ruling from the bench he felt like he was constrained by a private decision. that is idiotic in my opinion. this judge took a case in which you dealing with the nation reporter. it had nothing to do with conduct and decorum. and disrupted a presidential press conference. you guys are the lawyers. >> your question was should we tell the judge to go to hell. that's generally not a good idea. even though it's obvious you shouldn't have to tell people to behave like adults.
7:31 pm
>> lou: you should not have to tell the judge to get back either. >> there is no freedom to be obnoxious and rude. there is no freedom of the press to question the president. it's a privilege to be there at the white house. there are rules and norms that have always been followed. now you have a judge who has decided to expand to process beyond any resemblance. >> i would tell the judge go to hell and will let the supreme court decided if necessary. >> the president prepared to give his written answer answers to robert muller. let's take his comments to chris wallace yesterday if we could please. >> the questions were asked and answered, they make it like i had meetings for many hours.
7:32 pm
i got the question, i responded i read them once and read them a second time. i think that should solve the problem. if it doesn't, i'll be told them will make a decision at that time. probably this is the end. >> is this the end in your best judgment? >> it should be the end for the president side. this is the extent of his involvement. who knows what muller will do with it. it could attempt to go on forever. >> with obstruction off the table it should have taken five minutes to answer the question. i don't know anything about collusion and i don't know anybody who colluded with russia, end of story. you can dismiss allegations of the trump tower meeting did he
