spending billions of dollars on cybermonday u.s. stocks actually rebounded yesterday and that rally helped dow and s&p cut their losses. for the the year -- but was yesterday's spike just a one day affair let's bring in mark avalon president phoner of wealth advisors that's the question with was this really a oneoff yesterday was it a relief rally whatever you want to call it a snap tax? >> i think it is a continuation what have we're going to see and what we have seen which is volatility. volatility goes both ways that surprises on upsides and shocks on downside. i don't see a clear picture here. we have two huge cross currents on one hand we have some of the news that we just heard about this superstrong consumer great wage increases, low unemployment, and strong corporate profits. but on the other hand we have the specter of a hawkish fed uncertainty global outlook between slowing overseas growth and tariff an trade talk when you mix those two you do get uncertainty so what we're looking for is a little more clarity, and if we get it from

either of the fed, or from the china trade talks i think that market can move higher but we need a catalyst at this point to give us that clarity. >> what do you expect? you're looking at the same reports we are. there have been some reports out of china, chinese state media that they're actually have been conversations between two leaders maybe that was going to lead to framework if nothing else that g20 maybe the two countries decide to open up formal talks but we did have lead negotiator for china actually not come to the u.s., and he went ahead went to germany does that worry you about where we're going with all of this? >> there's posturing a lot of puffery positioning themselveses to a deal to both take home. chinese doesn't want to lose face and the forgotten middle class in middle of the country. >> even though it looks like china economy is slowing with with some of the administration that is said openly they believe china will take a one percent

political pressure here? >> one of the big challenges for mary barra is u.s. new car market doesn't favor small cars. that lord town ohio factory that received that money from the u.s. government really became the poster child for the the obama administration bailout. it was running at 3 shifts just few years ago basically 24/7 now it is down to one shift. one shift factory really is not something that's sustainable and gm is looking at ways that it can basically get out of the small car market here in the state. so this is interesting she's actually doing what she's supposed to do showing discipline and trying to get out of unprofitable situation for the company. so she's getting pushback for that do you see them putting another car at those plants that cher shutting down and shift production anywhere? smtion well history would show that when a company like gm says that they're going to take one of these plants down they don't

tend to come back. with a new product but they have to negotiate with uaw and with jobs and whatnot. challenge with gm right now is that they -- basically need to come up with money for the development of electric vehicles the way that most think that automarket is going in the next generation here to be prepared for this seismic change. and you've got these cars that people don't really want they want suvs. really gm doubling down on the suv market here in the state something that ford and chrysler have been also doing. want pulling up numbers so first nine months vehicles that general motors is discontinuing. together, they don't even have half of the sales of the silverado because you have our preferences have shifted other thing impactings industry tim is steel an aluminum tariff so a double whamny for midwest of loss of manufacturing jobs and higher tariff and traitd.

>> absolutely. you have to remember during the obama administration his reelection, ohio played a big part that the message that he ran on was essential lily that he saved gm and killed osama bin laden and it was -- resonated and then trump then ran in ohio again on saving jobs having jobs in those communities so this will likely kind of hang over general motors for another couple of years no matter what happens. >> lastly tim do you think this is an issue also for ford and chrysler? >> they're facing the similar kind of issues that we're see in market the way they go. that -- that's series of pickup is profitability for ford, they've been moving away from cars here in the states. chrysler did it few years ago getting rid of the small car here for the u.s. >> tim thank you for your insight this morning. >> yeah, with let's stay on this announcement from gm, you know, unexpected deviation otherwise strong economy it seems consumer

lame sedan is is not a cool car anymore so not a problem with whole economy and frankly jim is trying to stay ahead of the problem that led them into bankruptcy before and problem that ford is facing in a much higher level right now man who got to clear a lot of debt that ford didn't so i don't think it is a sunday -- toncht your point which i agree with jay johannes look what oil and gas prices is doing so still hicksly low what happens with opec but gas prices are lower that makes you want to have more fun unemployment exactly. but you know thr another story out there, and it's about housing, and there's a piece in wall street journal in particular they used dallas texas market as a sign that the house market is really slowing. interest rates are going up lumber prices are highser again that's a tariff trade story. what about the housing side of the economy? it is important are you worried about that piece right now? >> this is a little closer to what's going on in the economy. and i will say that interest

rates were going up too fast for housing market to handle and seeing sign of that right now and that could have caused a serious economic problem if we have another 1% jump weans from current 5%. the city market housing market informs a huge bubble supported largely by low front interest rate financing from 6.5 emergencies to low force threes in some cases. now, there was a lot of strong economies in america in last ten years a tech area, the end of booming energy sector those markets didn't need those low rates to support prices but waif a national interest rates are national. so what happened is those markets got way too hot because of the lower rates like as you know stock market business school with low rates too, and those markets are going to have problems when rates go up because they were built on -- overpumped up by rates with unemployment so now you see is the effects that it could be very dangerous especially if rates keep going higher which luckily in recent days it seems to have slowed down around 3

between 3 and 37.15 i don't think we're going way over 5% in 30 year that should stop a crisis. but to point about taxes that's an energy -- you know dependent state in so if you have oil and under pressure, and production slows domestic production has another hit to that specific pocket in the economy that was a good point. >> they were building a lot of like mcmansion style developments in those areas, those and they're not cool anymore like don't want to live no houseses like that. >> don't tell me brother that. good to have you here.
