we won't be opening until it's solved. we think this is a much bigger problem. the border is a much bigger problem it's a problem of national security. lou: the president asserted republican conversation with the radical left were progression and have come a long way. the democrats left that meeting with little more than partisan hackneys cam plant is and even unwillingness to negotiate and fall in line on the issue of national security. instead they stuck to their empty, petty rhetoric and expressed the hope the republicans will crack under public pressure. foolishing believing big government so essential no one* can even do you remember a shut

border security and the budget all at once. numbers are flown around. 1.6, 2.5. this is national security we are talk about. we are not talking about games. we are talking about national security. reporter: the president adding detail he heard from border patrol agents he invited to the white house yesterday. president trump saying we need the wall to cover the entire border. president trump: they go right to the easiest part and the weakest part, sometimes out in the desert. but you have miles and miles of unprotected area. you can see where they drive over. reporter: house speaker nancy pelosi says they asked the president to support their plan funding all of the department except the department of homeland security. >> we recognize on the

he's telling the democrat straight ordinarily that there will be a wall and he's prepared to leave at least a quarter of the government shut down for years if that's what it takes for these democrat leaders so-called of the democratic party want to simply ignore their responsibilities to the american people. >> well, i think that the president is doing a great job when he say he is going -- we are going to have a wall. that's right, we are going to have a wall. shame on these democrats. there only plan of action is no action which is very, very sad. they give money to these foreign countries. but what about our country. what about securing our border. you don't get paid tax dollars from these foreign countries. you get paired tax dollars. you need to fund the wall. >> if democrats can approve

funding to fund a wall in tunisia why can't we get the money we need to fund a wall in america. >> if you don't want to fund our wall with $5 million. why would you take $155 billion to fund illegal aliens. you should fund the wall, then we won't have to waste $155 million a year. lou: as i watched the leaders of the democratic party talking about there will be no wall. i can't understand what they were thinking about. they weren't elected by the american people. he was elected to secure the border and put america first and retore this nation's military and make certain americans are safe. while this latest report from dhs. 3,700 suspected and known terrorists crossing the border last year.

17,000 criminals that were caught in just one month on the border? the list goes on. there should be a discussion about why we want too secure that border and put up walls? this is mindslessness. diamond and silk, now they want something on the table to bargain with. make americans safe isn't enough. securing the national interest isn't fluff. they have to have some sort of payoff politically for doing the right thing. >> it's time for them to stop using america as political pawns. american lives are being lost because of our national security not being secure here. you know, our president worked hard day and night, especially over this christmas vacation holiday, whatever. he worked hard to fill the bill of securing americans. we take billions of dollars to

poor countries to help with their economy and secure those individuals who do not do anything for americans over here. it's time for us to take a stand as americans against our congress, against the people with our tax dollars we use to pay their salaries and they do nothing for the american people. you have people in congress that have approved sanctuary cities. sanctuary cities violates title 8, code 1234 which is our immigration law. it violates it by aiding and abetting illegal eighth aliens. if we can do taxpayer dollars to aid and abet illegal aliens, why can't we use that money to fund a wall to protect american citizens. lou: there is that and there is the president saying he's considering declaring a national emergency at that border.

look at what's transpiring there, it's the primary source of the methamphetamine, heroin, marijuana entering this country. and mexico is one of the most of if not the most of violent nations on earth. the drug cartels effectively run that. it's that government. it is an absolute disgrace what we are witnessing in that country, and the democrats don't want to make americans safe. it's stunning. let me turn quickly. impeachment. did you hear the nonsense coming out of the mouths of these develop kralts now in the 116th congress? who are these people and what are they thinking? impeaching the most of successful president in our country's history in the first two years of his presidency. over two years of investigation.

lou: the 116th congress is under way. congresswoman rashida tlaib. >> people love when you win. bullies don't win. i say baby, they don't. we'll go in there and we are going to [bleep].

lou: here is how the president responded. president trump: i think she dishonored herself and dishonored her family. using language like that in front of her son and whoever else was there, i thought that was a great dishonor to her and her family. it was highly disrespectful to the united states much america. lou: joining us, ed rollins, the dean of political strategists in this country. she is off and running. the 116th congress. there is no pretense of civility or some sense of public appropriateness. ed: we have an enormous clasp women. lou: 89. ed: to interesting and smart people. if you are going to put her out front with her mouth which she

now has attention she never had before. and put the little girl who wants to do prereagan economics and 70% taxes, the democratic women will be damaged badly. lou: we have had plenty of men who have been damn fools the last few years. i am talking about the departed paul ryan and his team of lackeys. this is a new breed, it looks like, of leadership. it hasn't to learn. ed: not only much to learn. they don't very much. they don't have much facts, they make comments like that, they are side and foolish and they don't represent their district well. if they do, too bad for the district. the reality is we are in a very

serious time in the congress. the american public is very, very disillusioned with the congress and these types of activities won't make them feel any better about it. lou: the language she used and the responses of nancy pelosi are what you would expect from a pelosi-led congress. this shows you what kind of shape some of these districts are. these people represent the views of about 700,000 folks in their districts. those folks elected these folks. but then i think of all the country club republicans who sent paul ryan to congress. who sent all the republicans to congress who put up with paul ryan. both of these parties are in the pocket of k treat.

it's disturbing to look at either party and their leadership. ed: it's unfortunate when we need real leadership in the congress to move the ball forward on serious problems like immigration and economics. >> immigration isn't half as serious as the democrats want to say it is. what is serious is the border crisis that's about national security. ed: i stand corrected on that front. i jumped and put them both together. but the border security is a drug problem and criminals coming across the border. lou: those four democrats talking about the white house, not expressing any concern about the millions of americans who are desperate because of addictions to opiates and the other drugs coming across that border. this is a callousness and idea

of this craven attitude on the part of the democrats. they want to be daca dumb. they want to be a trade for back ra? ed: the president will hang tough here. lou: i'm saying they are calling for it. they are actually trying to bargain and national security. that's how callow and feckless they are. ed: that's their premise, open borders. lou: how about that trump economy. 312,000 jobs created. how about the federal reserve. the president said don't raise rates any further. there was a hoot and a howl from the american media. but the president was right. powell was raising rates too fast. ed: and he admitted it today.

lou: jerome powell admitted it. ed: the most of important thing to americans today is the economy. we have to keep this economy moving forward. it didn't happen overnight. it happened because donald trump made it happen. lou: it will continue to move in his direction. what we are watching in some measure in the markets is an expression of deep troubles in the chinese economy. many of those problems are the result of the policies have pursued. the huge, tremendous trade surplused they have run with the -- surpluses they have run with the united states. it's remarkable building this number of jobs. ed: the chinese are threatening and getting war-like as a

lou: on wall street stocks closing higher. a lot higher. it was a full-blown rally up a whopping 746 points. the s & p up 84, the nasdaq up 275. the dow and s & p up 2% on the week. crude oil up 2 1/2%. gold dropped over half a

percent. fed chair jerome powell said he won't step down if the president asks him to. so far we have seen four rate hikes under this fed chair. he also learned a lesson about running off assets on the balance sheet. he said he'll watch the consequences of the fed actions much, much more carefully. listen to my reports three times a day on the salem radio network. joining me, gary, this was a special day in what has been a lot of crazy volatility. today the fed and the jobs report coming together as one to

boost prices. your thoughts on the day. >> that employment number surprised the heck out of everybody including me, and far and away above any expectations. you have combine the with a fed who finally said something to the effect we are watching the markets because they have been so far down. you combine it how far down and you get what we saw today. and hopefully it continues. i must tell you for the last few weeks we have seen durable goods down. then boom the employment number that basically blocked all that out. that is great, great news. there is nothing bert than the ton of jobs being taken. lou: look at wages up over 3%. these are strong healthy indicators. but as you are saying projecting out across the economy, this means we are in a lot better shape than a lot of the

naysayers in the economy. you have got to get a little bit of a kick out of this. the market is selling off on trade tensions and concerns about china and the united states. today should have put that response to bed. >> even the media who have been calling for recession gleefully shut up dan admitted this is a darn good number. that was across the board. next up will be the trade. if that gets done that will can a big help. that has been weighing on things. i always talked about the word uncertainty when it comes to the market. when there is uncertainty businesses can't plan well. if we can get some sort of deal, i don't know if we are ever going to get there with no tariff. but that will be big stuff also. so we are moving that hopefully

sooner than later. lou: we'll find out how smart xi jinping and his ministers are. as you suggest, this looks like we are headed to higher tariffs because the chinese have been stubborn in their refusal to adopt to changed circumstances at a time when the european union moved towards the trump policies of balanced international trading systems. you would have thought the international monetary fund and world bank would have followed suit. what he's calling for is the 21st century of international trade. free trade and globalism has been exposed for what it is. rhetorical devices, not a pragmatic and positive you trading system. >> china cheats. they cheat, they steal intellectual property. eventually they will have to start moving closer to the real

world. or else. i watched their economy closely. it's falling of a ledge at this point in time and that's not by accident. also man running the joint over there, his popularity is heading south. politically he has things to think about. that's why i think we'll get something sooner rather than later. communism doesn't work too well when all said and done. hopefully he recognizes what needs to be done. lou: another failed statist state is not what the world needs. there is a wonderful indicator within the chinese system, the more bell coals their admirals act and speak, the weaker they are getting. and at this point they are weakening as you suggest rapidly. gary, great to have you on this show. what do you see for this week as

candidates who to insure the republican party is more in the image of president trump. i think we had a lot of people who were part of the open borders cheap labor constituency. lou: k street. nearly all of the people, republicans, rinos, they should have been running as democrats or radicals who wanted to obstruct the president. it was the republicans who stopped president trump's wall, not the democrats. >> how proud we all are watching the president fighting for americans, secure borders and safe streets. lou: the democratic leadership talking about bargaining national security. this is as man trying to protect the nation and trying to protect

your thoughts tonight? >> he's doing exactly the right thing in keeping this government shut down until he gets that wall. yesterday we heard an absolute absurdity from nancy pelosi that somehow president trump's wall is immoral. the wall is an immorality. you may remember when i preached president trump's inauguration sermon i used the story from the bible with god' telling them to build a wall around jerusalem. lou: what would be the point of the pearly gates if there weren't a wall. >> that's right. ways immoral is for democrats to continue to try to block this president from performing his god-given task of protecting this nation. it's immoral for democrats to

support sanctuary cities that were responsible for the death much that police officer in california. and it's immoral for that new congresswoman to stand and curse our president. when it comes to immorality, the democrats are the party immorality. lou: that was an extraordinary early expression on the part of the freshman congresswoman. i happen to believe she'll need more preaching to. my guess is that won't be her only stream from the queen's english or king's, however it is. i think she's given to full ex for example. your thoughts as we listen to romney say he was misunderstood as he attacked the character of this president. he was a bishop in the mormon church.
