move this confirmation right along. we'll see how that works. congressman matt gaetz and jim jordan among our guests tomorrow. good night from new york. trish: you are looking at fresh pictures of yet another caravan come together up s., forming in honduras. making its way towards our southern border. in just hours the caravan swelled from 500 to 2,000-plus migrants. president trump warning about it while the democrats refuse to acknowledge the crisis. not even bothering to show up at the president's conference
8:01 pm
today. our vice president just got off the phone with the next president of venezuela. and president trump's new pick for attorney general william barr in the hot seat. barr defending his 19-page memo where he called mueller's probe fatally ill-conceived. "trish regan primetime" begins right now. breaking right now. president trump's pick for attorney general sparring with senators on capitol hill defending a memo he wrote criticizing mueller's russia probe calling it fatally
8:02 pm
conceived. >> many said it looked like a job application. >> that's ludicrous. if i wanted the job and was going after the job, there are many more direct ways of me bringing myself to the president's attention than writing an 18-page legal memorandum. trish: how could anyone actually think it was a good idea to go down this whole mueller path to begin with? we have the fbi conducting a counter intelligence operation to determine whether donald trump is a russian agent. never mind obama was the one caught on an open mic telling the russians he would have quote more flexibility with them once he got through his election. of course, medvedev said great,
8:03 pm
i'll convey that to vladimir. he followed through by refusing to take a stand when putin ran a territorial land grab in the ukraine. if you are going to call out one president a russian, i don't know why you wouldn't call out the other. meanwhile the fbi was getting a fisa warrant using a dossier written up in opposition research paid for by a research firm hired by hillary clinton's campaign. and somehow the fbi treats it as gospel? that's wild. of course, william bar should express that. i have no problem with him saying now nutty this whole
8:04 pm
thing has been. we talked about this before. it's pretty wild. there are new wrinkles of course because we are suspecting the president was a russian agent all along. which like i said, you can't make this stuff up. but let's get back to william barr what can you tell us about that. >> the shoe on the other foot test is a good one. the 19-page memo is a highly technical legalistic analysis of one portion of a particular statute. to say he was criticizing the entire probe is absurd and ridiculous. point is the shoe on the other foot. when major fbi people write
8:05 pm
express intent text messages while they are at work, they are entitled to their opinions. trish: it's so hypocritical. i think that's the whole problem i have with this. and we saw that on display today. >> when i read that memo today, i thought to myself. this is being sensationalized. there are certain pieces being launched out of the memo that are not really true and are just used for fodder to go into this hearing against barr. but he held his own today. and i was impressed by the fact he said he was appalled by the text messages and he wants to look into the fisa warrant. trish: you have james comey saying there was no bias at the fbi. we had an important interview.
8:06 pm
we broke a lot of news in terms of this mueller investigation. stay with that. we now know mueller who has been targeting conservative author jerome corsi. he and his wife here here exclusively on "trish regan primetime," and they revealed jerome's stepson, man caps son, is now being called to testify before mueller's grand jury. so the stepson has been woven into this. i want you to hear what they said as his parents. you expressed to me they were surveilling family members answer they knocked on your son's door and now it looks like he's getting called in to testify there at that grand jury. what is it you think they are asking and what is it you think that they believe happened? >> i think they think andrew was
8:07 pm
conspiring with me as my aide, my computer expert to destroy evidence. they are determined to find any crime they can find and make up a crime. they are investigating every aspect of our lives, including our families. monica has been upset this entire weekend because she is worried her son is going to go to prison now. trish: that was monica's first television interview. and she doesn't like the limelight. but she is in a position where her husband and son are being targeted. she'd told me off camera but off record that they will try and force her here. they will try to force her to choose between her son and her husband. and my question to you guys, former federal prosecutor that you are, is that something you normally do? >> i told you when i came on
8:08 pm
after jerome corsi and he was complaining they are bullying him. and i said that goes on. but that's why you have defense lawyers in the room. but now this idea of family members, we see that in tax cases because you have returns filed jointly. here is a common tactic. i want to be fair. it could be categorized as bullying. but there are concerns about why certain emails are gone. >> i'm not a technical person. the walls right here on set. so has anyone, the fbi, have they asked for this? he said no. >> the concern is the scope of this investigation has gone so far beyond what it was supposed to be. and are there other avenues the
8:09 pm
fbi could pursue without the subpoena to his step son? and the answer is yes there could be. from my perspective as a defense attorney for many years, the fbi does use tactics by putting pressure on family members or other people important to their target. so that's not unheard of. >> thank you so much. so here is the question. what does president trump's choice of william bar as his next attorney general say if anything about his confidence in the mueller probe? we are asking presidential historian doug wead that question. you think this shows the president is super confident in how it's going to turn out. why? >> i worked with william barr. he's a person of integrity. he's a lawyer's lawyer.
8:10 pm
he's absolutely professional. he cannot be bent. there is no way donald trump would appoint him attorney general unless donald trump knew he had nothing to fear. this is not an appointment like loretta lynch or eric holder, a buddy, do me a favor. this is someone to clean up the fbi and the justice department. it speaks volumes about how the president must be feel being his own situation. trish: you brought up loretta lynch and eric holder. they were tremendously loyal to president obama, and in some ways that loyalty -- i think we heard james comey actually say they were able to take advantage of certain players they were trying to target because there was no eric holder there initially when the white house term began.
8:11 pm
>> yeah. trish: a political player there as a guard dog. >> a person who can be politically bent. william barr signals today, he said i will not be bullied into doing something wrong. he named the three powshs. the lead to powers were the media, the congress and the president. he said editorial board, the congress or the president. democrats may want an attorney general who can be corrupt or bent by powerful media pressure and stories for their own purposes. so this is telling me, donald trump is the guy that's going to clean it up and do it right. i wish the democrats when they are in power would appoint people like william bar to run the justice department.
8:12 pm
we would clean up all of this mess and it would be running the country the way it should be run. trish: i worry we are getting to the point where we are turning into an ungovernor vernable mess. a new migrant caravan 2,000 strong and growing has just departed honduras and is heading for our southern border at this very minute. but democrats say this isn't real. it's not a real problem. that's real video from honduras with real people. i will point out that this is not what they used to say. they are changing their tune. we have proof. the women's march claims it's against all bigotry and discrimination as every single one of us should be. yet why are some leaders of this movement refusing to condemn the
