wall. we'll have to get democrat senators to work us on it. liz: you wonder if dreamers are hearing that. nancy pelosi is not going to take a dreamer deal even for $1. >> that's why it's important to get senators to work us on a common-sense solution and then send it over to the house. liz: what do you think about giving president trump $5.7 billion for a smart wall. the president said that's all well and good but you need a physical barrier. >> you need all three. you need people, technology and the barrier. if we can get something like that put together, there would be enough democrats in the house. liz: newt gingrich says the white house should sweeten the deal to attract democrats.

liz: we are in corporate earnings season. we have executives talking more and more about the shutdown. back in d.c., this was a temperature-taking exercise in the senate. both bills were expected to be voted down. but polls across the board are saying do your job, congress. if you don't do your job, you don't get paid.

continued shutdown. how long can this go on? >> not much longer. you have federal families using food banks. this is 800,000 people affected by it at the government level who need relief. that includes our great coast guard, the tsa. people in the justice department. they need to it to come teen end. liz: the california utility blamed for the deadly wildfires in that state, pg & e doing a big pushback on a federal judge's demand that pg & e must inspect and trim any trees and knock down any trees and branches that go anywhere near their power lines. pg & e claims that would cost it

liz: central americans inundating mexico. there is a big surge at the guatemala-mexico border. 12,000 central american migrants, many from honduras, they are taking up mexico's offer of the humanitarian visas. this comes after mexico decided to fast track those visas so they could enter legally. last week it was 7,000, 8,000 people. now it's 12,000. tonight the "wall street journal" breaking news reporting the u.s. will start returning some asee you slum seeking migrants to mexico to await thaimplet s. court hearing.

this caravan is more than 2,000 miles from the u.s.-mexico border, but the mayor of tijuana says its government is not prepared to handle this incoming group. what can be done about that? >> this is something congress needs to deal with. they need to decide what the policy is on immigration. i don't blame the president for protecting our borders. we don't know whether we have terrorists or criminals coming in. it's a problem. liz: you are saying d.c. has to wake up to what's going on and have a common sense conversation and debate about the incentives in our laws and mexico's laws attracting economic migrants to come in, right? >> exactly. if we build the wallet will
