breaking right now. the man the u.s. recognizes as the president of venezuela, juan guaido, says he and his family refuse to be intimidated by the thuggish tactics of socialist dictator nicolas maduro. hours ago guaido revealing one of the units of maduro's special police showed up at his family's apartment asking for his wife who was at home with their infant daughter. you are looking at video of juan guaido with his wife and daughter. they have been reunited. it's been an incredibly few days and years give what he's living under. guaido was at a political rally at the time. but he tweeted out, at this moment the special police are in my family home. i will hold nicolas maduro

do you fear you will be thrown in jail? >> that's the threat we have received every day. they threatened our kids. they hurt us. and they follow us every single day and they come to our home. trish: they follow you? we saw some video, you are one tough lady. you got out of the car you said wait a second, what are you doing following me? they said we are making sure you are safe. you said i don't need any security. they weren't there to make you safe, were they? >> they follow me every single time i put a foot out of caracas. i can't fly commercial airplanes because they were instructed that they will lose their

license. so i have to travel by car all over venezuela. everywhere i go they follow us. the intention to get us threatened or fear. i feel the support from our people has increased so much, and every time i have a chance to speak to those officials, for the families and their kids. things have changed in recent times. trish: what's the morale like? i saw all the people on the streets it was incredible. my sources in venezuela are saying saturday will be even bigger. what are you hearing from all the people you talk to? >> absolutely. it's different this time. we know we have the support of the international community that's welcoming venezuela back. we know that maduro has run out

of resources of money, and we know that one thing, i can tell you, for sure that. the soldiers certainly do not support or recognize maduro as the leader. we are in a different moment. we need to move ahead. we believe it's important that everybody understand this is a group that will do anything to stay in power. they need to be forced out. that's exactly what we are doing. trish: there is a lot of pressure the international community. let me ask you this. if you are successful and juan guaido is able to call for elections, proper elections,

would you consider running? >> absolutely yes. trish: we'll be watching. we hope you get that opportunity, maria. thank you. my next guest used to any venezuela until he and his family fled for their lives in 2016. daniel d'martino is a college student. why did your family live? >> thank you for having me. yes, what's going on in venezuela right now is what i would call a slow motion genocide. venezuelans -- 400,000 venezuelans have died since the dictatorship has been in place since 1999. i can't tell you exactly how many people have died because of the protests and tortures.

this is a crime they have cause. trish: what was it like as a kid, and how did it change. you are still a kid, by the way, but when you were really little and you lived there, what was the change over the course your life? you must have been just a teenager when you left. >> yes, of course. even when i was a child, my family arounded from a robbery at our -- family suffered from a robbery at my house. i went back to my high school to visit some of my professors. they were protesting that moment and the national guard with large weapons started circling around our school intimidating us. they wanted young people like me and my classmates to not go to the protests. they were basically threatening us. trish: a lot of this movement

has been led by young folks. juan guaido himself only 35 years old. juan guaido told us on this program that children as young as 12 years old out in the treats protesting with their parents have been hauled off to jail. is that something you believe that regime would do? >> i can definitely tell you i believe it, even though it is something i don't think should be happening anywhere in the world. there are reports that the government is taking children from school be kidnapping them, and torturing them, and there are videos online to see water tiewrs they are doing. this is no secret. it's publicly available. the maduro regime is not going to stop. the only way to stop them is by force. i call personally because this is what i have been researching

kind of coordination between the position and the u.s. administration it's okay with one exception. the russian view with a similar strategic vision is denied. so the u.s. considers this part of the world to be its backyard and according to its strategic national interest. russia sees this as a denial of china, russia and other emerging great powers which is to seize their prime strategic interests of the united states. i think that's a dissuasion. trish: payback. we are active over there and they want to be active in our hemisphere because we are active over there?
