are just his way of trying to unseat guaido. he came out over the weekend and said he would like new assembly elections. they he would like them to be early because he's trying to rig the elections so he can get the opposition members out. he's hang on by a thread and he's still hanging on. this guy has trouble taking a hint, shall we say. how do we make it and they make it more known? how does he move aside? >> well, first of all, he wants those elections to be overseen by russia. that tells you how legitimate that is. let me do a shout-out for the president. i have been in the strategy business for a long time. the way he handled it up until now has been brilliant. he talks about the military as an option. but what are the main forces he's using? he's using diplomacy, finance,

and rips with allies in the region. he's building bridge with the opposition. he's establishing a personal relationship with guaido. this is a very subtle and skillful way's working to move maduro out but to do it bloodlessly if he can, trish. trish: the sanctions, you need those sanctions, and i am a big believer in sanctions. they are making it difficult for nicolas maduro and his cronies to continue living high off the hog. you have got those sanctions, but they also hurt the people. not much of it, but some of it made its way in the form of food and other rations to the people. without those rations going to them, candidates say they are going to offer $52 million in humanitarian aid. they want the americans' help. they want juan guaido.

right now they want nicolas maduro gone. what happens this goes on for another month and they are saying to themselves, i was living on $3 a month, now i get 50 cents and things are even worse. >> the administration is being proactive. where is that aid going to go? it will the go in three entry points along clom yams borders. this is a chance for the united states to show its face and offer additional assistance and helping guard some of this assistance and push it into venezuela. think about how maduro is going to react to having hundreds of tons of supplies dumped into his laps on the border of venezuela and he can't even feed his own soldiers. this is being done as an information campaign and being done very, very well.

trish: strategically. let me ask you about russia. people say why should we care about venezuela. i thought president trump wasn't going to go around the world putting into other -- butting into other people's business. why do you care about venezuela? >> russia has been trying to get a foothold into venezuela for 50 years. this is a way to put a stick in the eye of the president. but i'm worried about the damn cubans. maduro would have been gone a long time ago it wasn't for the cubans taking over his intelligence service and military and a lot of his executions quads being trained by the cubans. the cubans are as much a problem venezuela as are the russians. and the chinese are just trying to get their money back, trish. trish: the best way for the

towns. this gives you a sense of where we are. spirit of change of the people of venezuela. and the hope we have to recover our democracy. this is a movement made by venezuela. they are the true leaders of this movement. i am confident our people will remain strong in order to achieve our freedom again. trish: you have seen some success. there was one general that stepped aside. but you need more. juan guaido is saying most of of the rank and file in the military is on the side of the opposition. on the side of liberty. but nicolas maduro is changing to power. how does this transition happen? and can it happen fast enough? >> i don't have a crystal ball. but i can tell you we need to

keep pushing to re-resist it. this could extend the agony, but never will be able to stop the change. that's what we have right now. we have the people, the leadership of juan guaido and the support of the national assembly. and we have the support of the international community. and it's important to mention today is an important day for us. we received many -- the support of many european countries. to our base and supporters. so you need to be in the right side of this situation. and maduro is not going anywhere. and it's much better to be on the side of the venezuelan people look for a change. we need to keep pushing on putting on the pressure to find
