>> thanks liz. liz: thanks for having us in your homes. much more on the state of the union tonight. lou dobbs is next here on the fox business network. have a good night. ♪ lou: good evening, everybody. we're just hours away from president trump's second state of the union address. a speech that comes as radical dems and establishment rinos in congress and senate are attacking the president because he is calling the american people's attention to the national security crisis in our southern border. the decades long massive influx of illegal immigration, drugs, violence, sex trafficking over that southern border worsens each day. more than 2,000 central americans are now camped a mexican town of across the border from eagle pass, texas. there they plan to cross the

border illegally, and claim a asylum once they're on u.s. soil, unless they're stopped. president trump today, tweeted if a border wall were in place, the caravans wouldn't be a concern at all. we'll take up the president's speech tonight, what is expected, and his efforts from the moment he announced his candidacy for the presidency, to secure that border. against all odds, the business lobby, wall street, the global elites, rinoss and radical dems, who couldn't care less it seems about american working men and women and their families. congressman matt gaetz with us tonight. joining us congressman chip roy, national border patrol council brad done judd, who will be congressman roy's guest at the state of the union. tonight president trump's address being dismissed by the radical dems who remain hell-bent on obstruction and resistance. >> the only question about the

response to their mountain of controversies an confusion in virginia where the scandal-plagued democratic governor and lieutenant governor are facing calls to leave their respective offices. all of that, and much more here tonight. our top story? president trump to soon address the nation in his state of the union address. the theme of the president's address, choosing greatness. we're told he will largely focus on the border crisis, protecting american workers, infrastructure investment, and how to lower health care costs. edward lawrence joins us tonight from washington with a hint or two about what the president can be expected to tell us. ed. reporter: lou, the president will bring a message of unity into the house chambers about. he is going to say that the past partisanship can be forgotten if politicians can learn how to work together. even before the president gets into his agenda for next year, talking about infrastructure or how he wants to lower health care cost for the next year,

senator chuck schumer is saying that he doesn't believe the sincerity of the president during his address. other democrats going after what jump-started this economy, the tax cuts. >> thanks to president trump's huge tax giveaway, corporate shareholders keep getting richer while too many workers don't make a decent wage. reporter: republican senators looking forward to what the president has to say. they want to hear the tone. they also want to see if democrats can truly listen to the message. >> the president will be making a call for unity on important unfinished business. we need to work together, republicans and democrats alike, to bring down the cost of health care. we need to work together, to make sure that our military continues to be the strongest power in the world. reporter: this will be in the most diverse group in the house to listen to this message. 15% more women were elected to

this congress. add in five new female senators. 131 women will be in the chamber, a record for the state of the union. everyone will be focused on expressions for nancy pelosi, the house speaker. i'm interested in hearing the tone of the room, the decorum in the room. will they respect the address itself? that could set the tone for the next year. lou? lou: that is putting a lot of pressure on the radical dems in that room. they have not based well to this point in this president's historical success over two years. i wonder if one evening they could, stand just to be a little mannered? we'll find out. i'm with you. i want to see their tone. ed lawrence, thanks so much. reporter: thank you, lou. lou: the president heads into tonight's address with high approval rating. rasmussen daily tracking poll has his favorability at 48%. that is 2% higher than president obama at the same time in his

presidency. and while president trump makes final preparations for his speech, the radical dems remain in disarray. as i said, they're stampeding to get their chance to attack the president's words or him personally. failed georgia gubernatorial candidate, stacy abrams set to deliver the official democratic response. instead of trusting her with the party's message, they have gone beyond senator kamala harris plans to speak before the state of the union. bernie sanders will have his own speech later in the evening, beating them all to the prebut ales and rebuttals, own leader in the senate, chuck schumer, got in front of cameras, not unheard of thing for him, just yesterday. >> in some the state of your union is in need of drastic repair. >> lou: the dems trampling one

another in confusing controversy in virginia. they are trying to out of governor northam there after recent yearbook photo. he after apologized for it claims he was not in the image is trying to remain if power. the man who would succeed northam, fairfax, would has been accused sexual assault. the accuser hired the very same law firm that represented kavanaugh attacker, christine blasey ford. the dems so quick to attack justice kavanaugh, with fairfax making a louder noise who drowned out northam and his problems. fairfax may be the only one who could have saved northam. the dems in full disarray. no sign that the dems can sort their virginia mess out anytime soon.

we're two hours away from the president's second state of the union. he is set to challenge congress to reject the politics of resistance and retribution. joining us, congressman matt gaetz, a member of house judiciary committee and armed services. congressman, great for you to be here. i want to ask you, it was interesting, ed lawrence is looking at tone of the room. do you expect, a respectful audience or will we see histrionics on the part of the dems? >> lou, democrats were for a wall before they were against it. and now they're against a speech before they even hear it. so when it comes to the tone of the room, it is sort of one that is precast and baked in. i expect you will hear from the president, a call to abandon the politics of resistance, that put us in a shutdown instead of putting the priorities of border security first. i expect the president to also tout the substantial achievements of this administration, from the deregulation, agenda, to tax cuts, to historic criminal justice reform.

president obama never would have been able to deliver. but, lou, my personal feeling is one of being truly crest fallen because my first choice for guest for the state of the union turned me down. so i am wondering, lou, are you going to tell your viewers, or will i have to tell them? lou: since you mentioned it, i didn't want to presume, but i do want to thank you, congressman gaetz was kind enough to invite me to join him at the state of the union tonight. but, this day job of mine or is it an evening job of mine, got in the way and i do appreciate it sincerely. >> you're that committed to your viewers, lou, that you wouldn't, you have never been to a state of the union i understand. lou: i haven't. >> you're so committed to delivering the truth, i think that is very admirable. look i expect tonight, regardless of the president's tone and tenor, calls for unity you will see every person who is trying to measure the drapes in the oval office offer their hot takes and, that just will pale in comparison to i think the

scalise has a track record hard to beat in his decade in congress. he has never had a sponsored bill passed and become law. there we are. it is a tricky process, this law thing. joining me now, congressman chip roy, a member of the house oversight and reform committee. a new member of the house freedom caucus, and his guest, at tonight's state of the union, also with us, brandon judd, president of the national border patrol council. good to see you both. congressman roy, let me ask you, do you think the president has an opportunity tonight to advance the wall? >> you know, lou, thanks for having us both on. i'm delighted brandon to be with me. representing freight men and women of boarder patrol, defending us every day. why the united states owes it as. we have 400,000 people pouring through the rio grande valley this year. we're not going to apprehend

upwards 200,000 of them because these guys don't have the resources think need and we don't have fences in place. 54 people were found on friday in stash house in houston who owe their lives to the cartels who got them across the river. little girls getting sold into sex trade. this all while democrats want to pat themselves on the back believing they're the compassionate ones for having open borders. it is absolutely an abomination. we need to do something about it, to support the president to secure our border. lou: brandon, as you hear congressman roy, obviously supporting you, supporting all the men and women, who are protecting our border, your thoughts about, where dhs, the department of homeland security is right now, and what do they need as much, do they need anything as much as that border wall? >> no. if you look where we're at, where we've been, you know better than most, covering this issue upwards of 20 years.

without that physical barrier, we just cannot keep people from actually entering the country. if we can't keep people from entering the country, then they fall into the asylum process. then they go into the catch-and-release. and that is what, that is that magnet that continues to draw people to come to our borders illegally and cross the border illegally. when i put on the uniform, i go out to patrol the border, i know how important those physical barriers are. i appreciate the president working, trying to get the physical barriers. i appreciate people like congressman roy that supports the president in those efforts. when i speak with the president i can see first-hand that the only thing that he cares about is securing these borders for the, for the safety of the american public and for that the border patrol agents appreciate it. lou: and congressman, tomorrow the conference committee is going to hear classified briefing, from department of homeland security officials on that border, and the need for it. is there any way in which you

believe that the democrats can be persuaded of that need, their leadership denies there is a crisis in they deny that there is any reason for a national emergency? that there is any need for a wall. they are a party of deniers, who absolutely disregard the safety and well being of the american people? >> yeah, lou i think if democrat leadershipship listen to freshman members, feeling a lot of heat back home, leadership of the democratic party will realize they're on the wrong side of that issue. i hope in the classified briefing tomorrow i hope our doll leagues on both sides of the aisle learn how badly the cartels have operational control of our border, make our border patrol have to deal with that every single day. how the gulf cartel will make $130 million this year funneling human beings like 10-year-old and 11-year-old little girl from honduras i saw on border. 150 people i saw coming across

the river. getting into buses because we're allowing our broken asylum laws and judiciary created mandatory release where we have to catch folks and release them to govern our country. it is absurd. i hope that is what they focus on when they talk to the leaders on both side of the aisle. they need to get busy securing the border. lou: estimates of the size of the drug trade alone, 50 billion, is high as $50 billion a year, the majority of methaphetamine, marijuana, heroin, cocaine, fentanyl, fentanyl response, i mean the last bust of fentanyl, 57, 57 million americans could have been killed. as senator tom cotton put it, that was a dirty bomb that was there, not just a shipment of drugs. do you agree brandon? >> if you look what border patrol agents deal with on a daily basis, we deal with criminal cartels that are intent on creating a profit. they don't care how they do it.

states has made a series of offers in order to secure the border. has actually been negotiating with himself quite a bit, although down to just asking for $5 billion, extending temporary protected status for variety of groups. the democrats have shown no interest. they made a laughingstock of the negotiations. they're sewing division here. it is crystal clear. the president has an opportunity to present a unity message tonight without the media filtering his message. he will see that he could do a very effective job for american people. lou: i expect nothing less. your thoughts? >> for some time now it is clear, whatever it is for the democrats have to be against. chuck schumer and nancy pelosi have made it a decision long ago that was their only pathway to keeping their jobs. it worked for them so far. they're still there. but it is terrible for the country. there is no thought given to anything the president said, no real consideration. it is just no, no, we saw it again with naomi -- lou: i'm sorry. >> all the confirmation fights.

there are people just looking for things to be against him. because politically it is still profitable for them to oppose everything that's trump. lou: it is profitable because there is a closed feedback loop provided interestingly enough by the national left-wing media. let's take a look. it, two examples of out right lies, distortion and hatefulness, on the part of the left. let's take a look at these two narratives, offered up for consumption of the left. >> i think we owe the lieutenant governor the same sort of thorough investigation that was not done in the case of brett kavanaugh and those allegations. >> if you think african-american relationships are immoral, if you think gay relationships are immoral, you personally believe that gay -- >> no, i do not. >> you do not brief that. >> no, i do not believe that. >> do you believe they're a sin? lou: on and on it went, probing,

nominee to the appellate court, to replace justice kavanaugh by the way, vince, booker trying to separate himself from the pack, but what a pack it is, in his distortion, in his, his, it just ignorant questions. i think he is put himself, i don't know, perhaps at forefront, what do you think? >> that was a depraved line of questioning cory booker today. he is 2020 presidential candidate, this should come back to haunt him throughout the campaign, he subjected a judicial nominee to a religious test before the united states senate. that is not the business of that hearing. it is about her fitness as a judge, not to test whether or not she is hoyle to some religion. this is an amazing moment. and you know, any other circumstance, if a republican was subjecting a muslim nominee to a religious test you would not hear the end of it. but instead, you're one of the

few places, lou that will actually discuss this and treat it the correct way in the media today. lou: your thoughts, michael? >> the "spartacus" act, he got tired of that. he is moving on. now he is religious figure who is probing senators, senators on what is a sin and what -- this is, this is crazy as vince says and yet, again, it will work for him. it will work among democrats who think this is, this is right because donald trump is so evil to them, that anything you do is right. so i don't know, we don't know whether there is a great center in this country that will reject that kind of thinking but that is solid gold within the democratic party. that is what is incredibly scary in this country. >> you keep wondering democrats keep wondering how donald trump got elected. you want to know how he got elected that? anti-religious, anti-christian animus. he got elected due to

anti-majority animus. people got sick and tired of it in washington. watch videos, hey is your christian faith going to get into the way of your ability to judge? that is how you elected donald trump in office. if you want to stop that from happening, be reasonable, not looking for excuses to continue it. lou: one other at least, deserves mention and that was building a wall. >> yes. lou: what do you think? >> look, i think, the big question tonight, is the president going to declare a national emergency. i don't think he will do it tonight. i think he will make it very clear. that is what he will do, if he doesn't get satisfaction out of this committee. which i don't think he will. so i think this, this speech tonight will, not be the final word on that subject. lou: it certainly will not be, excuse me. there are no final words it seems in our nation's capitol these days. >> right. it goes on. lou: if anyone gets it, it is likely to be the president. by the way we do want to point

out, as i think michael and vince here, in legislative days, it looks as though according to our capitol hill producer chad pergram, that the conference committee will have to come up with a bill to put forward for consideration by this friday because of the requirements for three days and, the number of days in which they still have, they will be in significance. so that has to be friday. and we're told by chad as well, that if they have a, sure-fire proposition, that could give them until monday. so it is going to be on the 11th, at the latest, next three to five days, they will have to come up with an answer, not the 15th as some were saying. michael goodwin, vince coglianese, thanks to you both. appreciate it. up next the incredible scenes from today's super bowl victory parade in boston. quite a parade.

today, five million new jobs. nearly 500,000 new manufacturing jobs, lou. lou: let's talk about some of the accomplishments of this administration. >> do we have enough time, lou? lou: i don't know. in the interests of time, if we can get it up there. we can just show a few of the achievements and. go ahead. >> unemployment at 4%. african-american, hispanic-american, female unemployment at the lowest since they have been doing these polls. this is a tremendous -- look at the wage growth over last year. 3% wage growth, the biggest in a decade. this economy is on fire. lou: yes. the middle class is growing, not shrinking as it had done for 20 years before this president was elected. >> that is what the left tries to do. they go after the middle class, try to talk to middle class voters. that is who got donald trump elected. that is who he is president for. all americans, rising raising all boats. i think that is what they will

see tonight in the speech. he will talk about a lot of different issues. but it is going to be a choose greatness message. lou: yeah. you know, you mentioned the obama administration, i think we reached that point where we reached it with president obama much sooner i have to say because he was blaming george bush. i don't know if you recall. we heard him blame bush for everything but the kitchen sink. >> sure. lou: i think this president, by the way is very constrained. he doesn't blame obama nearly as often as he could. i think that kind of constraint is classy on his part and i also think it is smart politics because you remember how numb we all got listening to obama blame bush. by the way, then tried to steal credit from this president for this booming economy. i mean he is quite an adroit politician. >> you know, president trump is exactly that, he is going to be a class act tonight.

he gives these big moments. he does very well as an american president. we've seen it since the campaign. but, i got to tell you, it is just, what you just said reminded me of george bush losing to bill clinton in 1992, leaving that note saying, i'm rooting for you, when bill clinton entered the oval office. that is what america should be about. instead we have democrats who hate this president more than they love the country, they want divisive politics, they want to destroy what this president has done over the last two years, all for, the possibility of beating him in 2020. they should be moving forward on -- lou: for the democrats, for the democrats, david, you know this very well, everything from now until election day in november of 2020 is about power. for the republicans, they're trying to get, trying to figure out how in the world this president has accomplished so much as a suddenly, historic figure for all of his
