[speaking spanish] >> [through the interpreter] we have spoken about it very clearly. we are going to achieve saturday an operation that we have undertaken great efforts for. this has been a very important effort for venezuela. after having gathered important aid, medical provisions and doctors, i think part of it is played by the united states and an international coalition has formed around the effort. brazil, colombia and the caribbean islands. we'll have a fantastic opportunity saturday to accept important humanitarian aid that the government in venezuela has forbidden. and we have fantastic example to

pull our country out of this crisis, thanks to the announcement by president trump who announced this operation by a coalition of countries the world over. there is a community of venezuelans who are siding with saving venezuela and siding with the constitution. one million venezuelans that are organized, that are orchestrating right now the entry of this humanitarian aid. we talked about how the executive of the government of this dictatorship has to be dealt with. we are not only talking about accepting this human tear yab aid, but siding -- this humanitarian aid but siding with the constitution and have elections very soon in our country. trish: what do you think if you

can't get the supplies through? [speaking spanish] >> [through the interpreter] that is more an affront to the venezuelan people with more than 90% live on not even $60 a month. that's the average today in venezuela. we need to attend to this humanitarian crisis to stabilize. so we are going to keep up pressure through political power that's growing by peaceful, non-violent mobilization of the citizenry in our country. to face off against this humanitarian crisis so aired can enter into the -- so aid can enter into the country.

to have this situation where venezuelans continue to get killed directly and indirectly, for instance, by members of the military, who assassinate popular figures that are protesting, and also through a lack of medical attention. so that's a true directive for us in venezuela, to put an end to maduro's dictatorship and move toward a transitional government. and reinstitutional youize all of the -- reinstitutionalize all of the goods the people possess for venezuela. trish: speaking spanish] there is a lot of concern in terms of the danger on the ground.

>> [through the interpreter] yes, today politicians have been persecuted. they have been put in jail. over 350 politicians are jailed and it's systematic persecution. and this is about the right of venezuelans to be able to have a better life. we don't want these tragedies and this public presence to be normalized in our country. right now we are seeing the worst rates in our country aside from the threat under maduro's government, we need to have an electoral process so we can take

command of the situation. to face off against this particular day forship. on the 2 -- this dictatorship. on the 23rd along the border in our country we are going to work to accept humanitarian aid into our country. trish: i have a question about president trump. [speaking spanish] how is he helping you? >> [through the interpreter] president trump's help has been instrumental. it's been key for this international coalition. it's important when a tragedy up as this in venezuela has occurred. i think democracy and freedom are fundamental causes.

and the eln, the liberation movement in venezuela, we see it's not going well, and this is a threat to colombia as well. we see an attack just last month in bogota, latin america should be a democratic land, land of freedom and cooperation. cooperation that we are purchase sniewg venezueld we are pursuina for years. we have done a lot of work and it's allege excellent point to back this up. trish: maduro is saying he's willing to talk with you. are you will to go talk with him? emigrating venezuelans to be able to vote. we need organized parties and organized candidates to be able to participate. for there to be international observers, for there to be oversight. it's not a truly free system under maduro. that's why we are calling for a transition so we can hold elections that are truly free today. part of our struggle in venezuela is to recover our right to choose to vote in venezuela. trish: i'm talking to the american families whose fathers are in jail there. you are in charge of citgo now. will the charges against them be dropped? will they be free? chavez in 2002 failed coup he created a contingency plan where he through hezbollah and his agreements with iran, he trained militia, non-state actor groups, para-military groups. 60 of them. and he could use that as a contingency. he also brought people out of jail and dressed them as policemen with masks. he has a proxy army he can use to evade the sensibilities of the military. it's very complicated. can you imagine the u.s. arriving with authorization of congress? would that relieve the humanitarian crisis? trish: i don't know. it's a mess. i hope the people get the aid they need and i hope it happens

and this is statistical information i can provide you with. 55 to 60 percent of surgery facilities in venezuela are closed down or their vital inabilities for their operation. about 75% of hospital facilities have crucially inoperaable equipment such as haven't lay tores and man towards. they are not in operating order due to lack of maintenance. venezuelan hospitals suffer from inadequate power supplies. and this of course affects our equipment that should be
