to that's it for us this week. i'll be back next week with more in-depth interviews. thanks for joining us [♪] lou: good evening, i'm david asman, lou has the night off. the deadline for the china trade talks. the president remaining cautious because he knows whatever dice agreed upon cannot be rushed. it has to be fair to the united states. president trump: i would say it's probably more likely that a deal does happen. but that doesn't mean it's going to happen. both parties want to make it a real deal, a meaningful deal, not a deal that's done and
1:01 am
doesn't mean anything. china has many years of having tremendous success at the expense of the united states. this should have been made 20 years ago. for 20 years the united states was taken advantage of. i'm not blaming china. we should have done the same to them. david: the chinese continuing their attempts to control the narrative using terms like memos of understanding. president trump making it clear that robert lighthizer, clear, definitive terms need to be used. president trump: i don't like mous. they don't mean anything. i was never a man of an mou. i think a memorandum of understanding is not a contract
1:02 am
to the extent we want. we are doing a memorandum of understanding that will be put into a final contract. how long will it take to put that into a final binding contract. >> use the term trade agreement. president trump: you are either going to make a deal or you are not. they are not that meaningful in my opinion. david: i love these fly on the wall discussions. fair and reciprocal trade will be discussed with air expert, gordon chang. the house is going to vote next week on blocking the president's mdges national emergency
1:03 am
declaration on the southern border. president trump: will i veto it? 100%. we have too many smart people that want border security. but i will veto it, yes. david: we take up the president's ongoing efforts to secure the borders and the obstructionists standing in his way. ed rollins. kayleigh mcenany, and corey lewandowski. president trump holding out hope that a trade deal will be made with china and the chinese trade delegation announced they are extending their stay through the weekend. reporter: perhaps his most of optimistic reading of the talks yet, president trump signaled the ongoing trade dispute between the united states and
1:04 am
china could be nearing an end. president trump: we want a deal that's good for both countries. but we want to make it miningful. reporter: china's vice premiere said a deal is very likely. steve mnuchin announced the chinese negotiators will extend their visit in washington to build on progress made this week. the oval office meeting today comes as the president prepares to meet the leader of north korea, kim jong-un. the recovery of u.s. remains, follow-up talks and the denuclearization of the korean peninsula. while the latter remains an illusive and ultimate goal, the news hasn't been all positive. the recently released worldwide threat assessment said north korea is unlikely to you give up
1:05 am
its nuclear weapons capability. >> they view nuclear what he pops as critical to regime survival. gina haspel accused kim jong-un of developing a nuke nuclear-armed missile that what pose a direct threat to the united states. president trump: we have a situation where the relationships are good. there has been no nuclear testing. no missiles, no rockets. we got our hostages back. reporter: interesting rinse together president talk about what could be coming down the pike. we could see him meeting with chinese president xi jinping and it could take place at masha lago.
1:06 am
the president announced on twitter he has nominated kelly craft to become the next ambassador to the united nations. david: joining me, columnist, author and asia expert, gordon chang. it looks like the president is going to meet personally with president xi to seal the deal, the trade deal. are we make real progress in getting the chinese to change habits that are not in our interest? >> i don't think so. $300 billion, $400 billion a year. there is no indication this adream will do anything substantive about that. the chinese economy was built around state end prizes. and d state enterprises. it's not just foreign countries like american countries prejudiced by xi jinping. it's chinese companies itself.
1:07 am
this won't stop with the trade deal. david: huawei is in the news. the cfo, the daughter of the guy who started the company was arrested. there is a least pressure on them from the united states because they have been breaking laws, according to the united states. the chinese government claims they are a private company. we don't believe that. if so what does the government want to do with a company like huawei? >> they want huawei to dominate 5g. this is going to connect everything in our home, office, everywhere. they can suck up all of that information and they can send to it china. that will power their a.i. systems. china donated the headquarters for the african union. from 2012 to 2017, every night all the see yet in the headquarters were sent to
1:08 am
beijing. that was huawei equipment. so china would know everything in the world. all information, all data if huawei servers were in these countries. >> the comparison of what 5g does compared to 4g. 5g is 100 times faster. only in the will they have more information, they could get it in a split second. >> it will connect everything. autonomous dived vehicles will be powered by 5g. your toaster, everything in your home will be connected to the internet. this is 5g. this is huawei. david: some telecom companies from china are in the united states. there are certain networks in the united states that have huawei wholly in their system. these networks would have to be
1:09 am
dismantled. should that be done to strip the chinese government out of it? >> absolutely. huawei was built on theft of cisco's secrets, motorola, team mobile. there are so many stories that from the very beginning in 1987 up to today, they have been stealing u.s. technology so they can undercut markets in america. david: clearly president trump knows all this. president trump knows more than most of people about the way businesses work throughout the world. he knows the chinese company is trying to use huawei and others to get into our system. there is anything he can do with these trade talks to address that issue. >> this is a law enforcement matter. the cfo of huawei detained in canada at our request. we filed extradition papers for
1:10 am
her. this is a law enforcement matter. we should be doing everything possible to put huawei down. they are a direct threat to the united states. they are directly controlled by the communist party. ownership there doesn't matter. they say they are an employee, the point is they answer to the party. and the party is going to dem determin --and the party is goio determine what they are going to do. david: you mentioned president xi's interests. he wants to be president for life. while they are talking nice in washington, the chinese delegation. in china, according to the "wall street journal," they are republishing this material that president xi and others said there is no way they are going to give an inch on the fundamental thing we want them to change like dealing with our intellectual property and
1:11 am
dealing with our secrets, and imposing chinese party members. who are we to believe, the delegation here or what they are telling their people in china. >> you have to believe what they are staying in china. we saw it with the global times. we heard it from the spokes people from the foreign ministry. they said structural issues are off the table. and structural issues are off the take? then why are we talking to the chinese? that's the reason we have tariffs in the first place. we shouldn't be talking to the chinese. we should be imposing greater costs until they stop stealing our stuff and stop the trade violations that have gotten worse under president xi jinping. we have tried to have these agreements with the chiens ease and they vie -- with the chinese
1:12 am
and they violate all of them. david: is there economy in what would be considered a recession by their standard? >> i think so. if you look at december. the manufacturing sector, they were all negative. car sales, they were down 13%. import were down something like 4.4. but exports were down 4.4. imports, more important. those were down a stunning 7.6%. we are seeing bad numbers come out of january. this clearly is an economy in trouble. there was a professor in beijing who said the chinese economy is probably retracting. clearly they are in trouble now. david: a trio of freshmen democrats embracing their radical new ideas.
1:13 am
>> we have got to address factory farming. maybe we shouldn't be eating a hamburger for breakfast, lunch and dinner. >> i think we have a beef with almost everyone here. >> a boo-boo word. who cares. >> they think we are all radical because we care about the people we represent. >> if you make more than $10 million, your $10 millionth dollar gets taxed. isn't $10 million enough? where does it stop? david: i feel like having a hamburger with former trump campaign manager corey lewandowski. nancy pelosi moves to block the president's national knowledge and she may have the support of rinos

amash. president trump in the oval office saying he'll veto the bill 100%. joining me now former reagan white house political analyst, ed rollins. the president mass not yet -- he has been in office two years and he has not yet used a veto. >> it will sail through the house and the one republican supporting it is a libertarian. and he's doing it on principle. after he gets out of the house, they have 18 days for it to couple in the senate. it probably gets a majority. there are a couple of republicans. it takes 2/3 vote of the house and senate and that won't happen to gopher come the president's veto. the supreme court in ruling on

the hawaii case on immigration issue already is that's the way it's going to go. david: senator lindsey graham is an interesting guy. he started out as a bitter rival of the president in the presidential race leading up to the 2016 election. but he has become pretty close to the president. here is what he said about the issue of the wall and this upcoming vote. >> democrats are pushing this resolution, will you vote with them? >> absolutely not, i'm 100% with the president. >> how many republicans do you think will vote with sometime in. >> a handful. >> collins is the only one out there so far who says she'll vote against the president. but there are four or five. several said, romney and some others expressed. at the end of the day it will be a veto fight and the president
1:20 am
will get his way. david: and there will be court challenges to all of this. there have been some in the process of getting started. but i don't think that bothers the president. i think the president wants the issue of immigration to be front and center up to 2020 because it revealed the democrats have nothing to offer for security or considering the border except catch and release. ed: democrats have voted in the past for fences but never for the appropriation for the fences. they want an open border. they don't want the immigration service to be able to do the job it needs to do. it will be a big issue as people see more and more caravans, and these people trying to get in the country legally and illegally. the criminal and drug element, in my sense it's a good political issue. david: i want to switch over to what we'll see next week,

michael cohen the disgraced former attorney of the president will be speaking in front of congress at precisely the moment the president is going to be doing the best he can for the u.s. interests with dealing with the north koreans in vietnam. to me this is an outrage. we have this stop at the water philosophy. when the president is representing u.s. interests abroad, you don't attack him. this is to me a direct attack on the president, meant to disgrace him while's serving our interests abroad. ed: the old stop water policy is now gone. cohen, there is a 12-hour difference between vietnam and here. the president has to keep his eye on the ball. david: this has happened before where he represent our interests abroad. they tried to embarrass him here and he kept his focus. >> two things he has to do well
1:22 am
on, this north korean. it can't just be a handshake. he has to go and do that. and china. the trade deal which is more difficult. he has to look strong on both of those things. david: you heard gordon's apprehensions about china and giving away too much. ed: china has a plan and they are not getting off the plan. we are making up the plan as we go along. every single chinese advisor is on the same page. they knew what they want coming out of this and they won't live up to any agreement that's made here. david: if they don't do with president xi wants, they will end up in some camp. >> they won't be on a future delegation. david: we would like to hear your thoughts on all of this. share your comments and follow lou on facebook and instagram

david: deadly violence breaking out along the border of venezuela and brazil. at least two people killed and a dozen injured. opposition leader juan guaido plans to bring aid into venezuela tomorrow in defiance of embattled dictator, nicolas maduro. joining me is former trump campaign manager, corey lewandowski. i want to talk to you about what the president has done
1:28 am
internationally. he's clearly leading, the united states is leading the way in so many things in the world. not nation building. but we don't want to lead from behind like we did with the previous administration. look what happened with our may tee allies, forcing them to step up to the plate with defense. and venezuela, instead of saying we can't do anything about it. the same with isis in syria. the same with north korea. is this something that's going to be emphasize leading into the 2020 reelection campaign? >> it will be emphasize but not by most of of the media. they don't want to give this president credit for exerting dominance on the world stage and reminding everybody what a super power we are. this country was the first country to call on maduro to leave. this country put the coalition together to put 20 and 30 and 40

other nations to join with us. donald trump went to the up n. and said you have to pay your fair share and our friends in the media laughed at us. he said he's embarrassing our allies around the world. but listen to what happened. $100 billion more in the coffers of world organizations because our friends are finally paying their fair share. this is the president leading the world as it needs to be done. david: you think of two stories next week. the president in vietnam with the north korean leaders trying to get them to ded denuclearize with real talks. and michael cone, his discredited lawyer in washington, a show trial. it will be a show of a certain kind. what do you think the media will give more attention to.
1:30 am
something that's insignificant or something with deep significance not just for us but for the whole world. >> they should be focusing on world peace. denuclearizing. the false accusations and comments michael cohen will go up to capitol hill and make is what the media will cover. they will focus on a man who has been convicted of lying to congress. a man who is a convicted felon is going to jail. they don't want to focus on the good work this president is doing overseas and here domestically. david: we don't see much of a middle ground in the democrat party anymore. it's almost all to the left. from the far left to the socialist left.
1:31 am
is that making trump reelection folks happy, the fact that they so isolated themselves, does that make them easier to beat, from your perspective? >> can you imagine if donald trump had honeymooned in the former u.s.s.r. like bernie sanders did? middle america, wisconsin, ohio, pennsylvania, the places donald trump won will never vote for the socialism agenda democrats are pushing. they don't believe you redistribute people's wealth. that may fly in california and massachusetts, but it doesn't work in middle america. if warn and harris become the nominees of their party, i predict donald trump will win a greater electoral victory than the last time. david: i'm concerned about the

young people in america. ronald reagan had a great amount of support from young people. a lot of people thought because of the age difference he wouldn't have much support. it turns out he had a great amount of support from young people. but since then we have a generation that has been educated by left-wing elites in colleges. not just the ivy league. ocasio-cortez was from boston university which is where she got her economics degree. it's frightening to think of the new generation and what has happened to them in terms of how they have been educated. >> it's scary because i understand what those institutions are teaching. let me tell you what donald trump is doing. he's bringing the african-american population back to the republican party.
1:33 am
what he has done on criminal justice reform. it cuts across the demographics and socioeconomic status. and they will turn out in record numbers for this president come 2020. if that happens, the democrats should be scared to death. because if donald trump gets 10% of the african-american vote it's over for the democrats. david: don't forget about the latin american community. he has a lot of support among latin americans who came to the united states for the right reasons to work here, they established roots. they rebuilt miami. there are a lot of people in the latin american community who support donald trump. >> that's because he's tough on illegal immigration. the people who came here legally don't want to see illegals coming in and taking their jobs. they are with this president on securing our border and they
1:34 am
will turn out in the 2020 election. david: coming up next. donald trump's decision to declare a national emergency on the border has the support of conservative women. a conservative attacked sat berkeley university in california. you still stressed about buying our first house, sweetie? yeah, i thought doing some hibachi grilling would help take my mind off it all. maybe you could relieve some stress by calling geico for help with our homeowners insurance. geico helps with homeowners insurance? they sure do. and they could save us a bundle of money too. i'm calling geico right now. cell phone? it's ringing. get to know geico and see how much you could save on homeowners and condo insurance.

1:40 am
understand it's a much larger topic than just a physical barrier keeping out a certain group of people. there are so many other emergencies happening in the country thatter elected representatives are mentioning that are directly tied to the border. and even environmental topics in california. david: i was talking to ed rollins on what we saw exposed in the fight for the border wall. the democrats don't have much of a plan. there is talk of drones. but when it comes to the real issues of border security, they don't have a specific plan. we would be back to catch and release which is what we had largely during the obama administration. that's all they have to offer. that has been exposed and the poll of suburban women proves it. >> they have been changing their
1:41 am
mind. things as citizens we deserve with specificity and counting on the other measures that would be effective on the border, that's what has been retract. how are we supposed to understand what that party is saying. something coming to light more and more is the problems with the emergency declarations including in the export industry which has been passed down by four different presidents. it's a lot more prevalent. the more information that comes to light the more people see what's going on. david: this a difference in terms of reality. when you look at the reality of what happened with the economy, real growth, real jobs being created. when you look at the reality of what's happening overseas. the real destruction of isis or the caliphate for isis. there are parts of is around.
1:42 am
but the follow-through in getting involved in places like venezuela or north korea which seemed to be intractable problems when the democrats are involved. people are seeing compared to that all democrats have are gimmicks like the green new plan, and the reparation plan which has now become sort of fashionable among democrats. reparations for the civil war. there aren't any real policies that could make a substantial difference in the way americans feel about the world. >> i totally agree. i don't understand how that's arguable. i don't understand when you mention isis and the caliphate. i don't know how you can thipts not resaflt what socialism does. with the green new deal, no one is talking about policy. with everyone bemoaning straws.
