cheryl: here's how your money is moving at 5*uz a.m. eastern time. after small losses yesterday and a brief stop in futures trading last night, a little tech any l call glitch, futures are pointing down again this morning. looks like we're gearing for a lower open. s&p is down 8 and three quarters, nasdaq down 22 and-a-half. investors will watch jerome powell's second day of testimony on the hill today. now to europe. the pound rallying to its highest level in four months against the dollar as a second referendum for britain to leave the e.u. gains traction. all eyes in asia on president trump and kim jong un as they get set to meet in vietnam. the south korean market especially sensitive to the summit as you can see, a mixed bag. the hang seng actually recording a slight loss. lauren: welcome to "fbn: a.m.." good morning to you. i'm lauren simonetti. cheryl: good morning, everybody. i'm cheryl casone. well, here we go. we are about 90 minutes away

from the high stakes summit between president trump and north korean leader kim jong un. it is their second face-to-face meeting in eight months. this time in hanoi, vietnam. the two saying they hope to achieve a of lasting peace and denuclearization. trump just tweeting, folks, by the way, here you go, all false reporting, guessing on my intention was respect to north korea. kim kim and -- kim jong un andi will try to work something on for denuclearization and making north korea an economic powerhouse. i believe cha, japan, south korea will be very helpful. ahead of all of this, president trump paying a courtesy call on his vietnamese host. the president eager to send a message to kim about vot vietnas success. >> we have a very big meeting planned tonight with north korea and chairman kim. i think it may he very well turn out to be very successful. it helps that it's in vietnam

because you've shown something that the world is really getting to see, the incredible job that you've done in scree vietnam. lauren: vietnam is 12 hours ahead of u.s. eastern time zone. they are scheduled to meet 90 minutes from now. the sit-down will be followed by a social dinner. for more on this round two and if we can expect a breakthrough or a bust, let's bring in patrick cronein, the asia pacific chairman at the hudson institute whavment do you expect? >> i expect over the next 24 hours, the president to agree with chairman kim on a serious set of steps forward on this relationship. this is a bargain on the peaceful development of north korea in exchange for denuclearization. the president is trying to secure a serious step toward denuclearization as a way to

really advance and sustain this process going forward. lauren: you heard from the sound bite we just played and even from the tweet from president trump just seconds ago, literally, that they're in vietnam because they want to showcase to north korea, look what your economy could be like. are we over-stepping in thinking that that's what kim wants his economy to look like? >> well, nobody has succeeded in persuading the kim family to change paths. so the president is putting all of his effort into trying to be the first american leader to convince the kim family to go down an economic development path rather than a military path. one thing about vietnam, it's not just its economic example for kim, but also the fact that united states and vietnam have a good relationship, vis-a-vis china and china's rise in the south china sea. north korea wants to hedge against china as well. there's a strategic element here that is not being talked about. lauren: are you watching for or

have you seen a change in tone, maybe we can see and look into what kim is really getting at with the messaging in the north korea state media. >> well, kim is treating it in the state media as a process and so we cannot expect success or failure to be defined out of hanoi. what we can see is a step forward. lauren: there will be a round three, a third summit then? >> a round three, a round four coming up. lauren: all right. round four and maybe some more many thank you very much for coming on on this historic and important morning. we have special coverage of the summit starting at 4:00 a.m. eastern time right here on "fbn: a.m.." it will be followed by maria bartiromo, "mornings with maria," at 5:00 a.m. we'll be ready earlier as the events do unfold. cheryl: meanwhile, the president in vietnam, busy tweeting this morning. here is another tweet that he just put out. fiat chrysler going to be adding more than 6500 jobs in michigan, detroit area.

doubling its hourly workforce as part of a $4.5 billion investment. thank you, fiat chrysler. they are all coming back to the usa. it's where the action is. we'll talk with one of our guests about that in a few moments. lauren: jeeps will be built in detroit. also this, in the u.s., the house is approving a measure to block president trump's national emergency on our southern border. the vote potentially setting up president trump's first veto. cheryl: griff jenkins joins us live in d.c. where the measure now moves to the senate. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the house sending a sharp rebuke, voting to block the declaration but the vote falling short of a two-thirds majority needed to override a veto. speaker pelosi calling it a duty to act. >> we are not going to give any president, democratic or republican, a blank check to shred the constitution of the united states. we would be delinquent in our

duties as members of congress if we did not overturn what the president is proposing. >> reporter: it wasn't just democrats. more than a dozen republicans crossing the aisle to cast a vote against the president. but illinois congressman adam kinsinger, back from his fourth deployment at the border with the air national guard disagrees. >> i have to tell you why i think this rises to the level of national emergency. this is an issue of drugs and human trafficking. >> reporter: now it goes to the senate where three republicans say they'll join democrats in opposing the president, setting up a vote that mitch mcconnell says will happen. >> personally couldn't handicap the outcome at this point but we will certainly be voting on it. >> reporter: here's what to watch. one more republican defection

and democrats will have enough votes to pass it in the senate, almost guaranteeing the president's first stroke of his veto pen. cheryl: griff, thank you very much. lauren: there's also this, president trump's former lawyer and fixer, michael cohen, is set to testify before the house oversight and reform committee today. now, according to the written testimony, prepared for this public hearing, cohen plans to accuse the president of knowing that his former advisor, roger stone, was reaching out to wikileaks concerning the publication of stolen dnc e-mails. yesterday cohen testified before the senate intelligence committee that one was behind closed doors. >> at this point in time, i really appreciate the opportunity that was given to me to clear the record and to tell the truth and i look forward to tomorrow, to being able to in my voice to tell the american people my story and i'm going to let the american people decide exactly who is telling the truth. lauren: president trump

tweeting this, michael cohen one of many lawyers who represented me, unfortunately. he had other clients also. he was just disbarred by the state supreme court for lying and fraud. he did bad things unrelated to trump. he is lying in order to he reduce his prison time, using crooked lawyer. cheryl: there may be legal action for tesla's ceo, elon musk. he has until march 11 to explain why he shouldn't be held in contempt of court. a federal judge in new york issued the order after the securities and exchange commission said his recent tweet about tesla's production targets violated the terms of an october settlement. the s.e.c. is claiming the tweet was not approved by tesla before it was sent. remember, he has to get a approval to do these things. musk is still tweeting, despite all of this, overnight he teased something happening on thursday at 2:00 p.m. pacific time. he didn't really say much more. we shall see. lauren: i think twitter sends thank you notes to president trump as well as elon musk at

this point. we have a major lee l gal victory for -- legal victory for at&t. a federal appeals court upheld the company's purchase of time warner. the court rejected the justice department's claim that the deal violates anti-trust guidelines. this is the second time the trump administration has lost a court challenge on the takeover which is already changing the landscape of the media industry. the government claimed the merger would lead to higher prices for consumers and give at&t an unfair advantage over other cable companies. cheryl: all right. well, to wynn resorts, they are being hit with a record fine stemming from the sexual misconduct claims against the former chairman, steve wynn. the n nevada gaming commission fined the company $20 million for failing to investigate the charges. the fine is by far the largest ever assessed by nevada gaming regulators. the company is going to keep its gambling license. steve wynn denied all allegations against him. lauren: let's take a look at

shares of weight watchers, plunging more than 30% in extended trading after the company said it didn't add as many new members as expected earlier in the year. we call it ww now. also out with disappointing fourth quarter results, as for today, a lot of earnings coming in. we're in the home stretch now. we get several retailers before the opening he'll belthe openin, lowe's, best buy, tjx and office depot set to report the latest quarterly numbers. "mornings with maria" will have those and break those down for you. cheryl: here are other headlines this morning. three people have been killed in long island, new york after a truck is hit by two oncoming trains going in opposite directions. investigators think the driver was trying to beat the trains at the crossing gates. one train derailed and crashed. no passengers were seriously hurt. everyone inside the truck was killed. well, amtrak passengers that

were trappedded on a train for more than 36 hours finally arrived at an oregon station. the train slammed into a tree on sunday. 183 people were on-board the train heading to los angeles. facebook is under fire after reports that a high ranking executive boasted about its acquisition of inextr instagrama way to, quote, eliminate competition. the ftc considered using this to block the acquisition. the trump administration set up a task force to analyze anti-competitive behavior in the tech sector. andrew cuomo is blaming congresswoman alexandria ocasio-cortez for ruining new york city's deal with amazon. amazon was planning to build its second headquarters in new york, bringing 25,000 jobs at least to the area. cuomo also ripped into state democrats who signed onto the deal but backed off when, quote, the politics changed. the story continues here in new

will be patient when it comes to raising interest rates. powell making more doveish comments on mone on monetary poy yesterday. powell responding to a senator's question on democratic alexandria ocasio-cortez's controversial green new deal. >> they want to spend now, spend later, spend often policy that would use massive annual definite fitanannualdeficits, me in the u.s. energy efficient within ten years. >> the idea that deficits don't matter for countries that can bow record in their own currency i think is just wrong. to the extent people are talking about using the fed -- our role is not to provide support for particular policies. it is to -- that's central bank's everywhere. it is to try to achieve maximum employment and stable prices.

cheryl: that's the job of the fed. craig dismuke is here. that's interesting yesterday. what the senator was asking about was the idea of modern monetary policy. progressives like aoc is grabbing onto this. well, we borrow in u.s. dollars, the fed controls the currency, so who cares about deficits? >> sure. well, good morning, cheryl. thanks for having me on. mmp theory or magic money tree, whatever you want to call it, it's really -- powell's response yesterday was fed-speak for it's just ignorant. the fact that you can run deficits ad nauseam eventually catches up with you. we have plenty of examples to look at historically to see that this doesn't work. the most recent -- one of the most recent and most devastating examples was zimbabwe where they were funding a war in congo, putting money to do so, paying army and whatnot with this money that they were printing and

people lost confidence in their currency and so you had massive inflation and eventually the financial system collapses when you do that. cheryl: hopely aoc will read up what happens in other countries along the progressive idea. he did talk about there are concerns, he talked about the worries about global growth, talked about the trade negotiations with china and also the issues that are happening in england with brexit. so he did talk about there are concerns for a slowdown. does that concern you as an economist as you watch the u.s. right now? >> well, i think they're a little bit behind on this issue. and really i think the story was bearing out in the fourth quarter of last year. and what the surprise to me, and there really is no new news in fed powell's -- fed chair powell's testimony, but the real story is just how doveish they've become. remember back in september, they were projecting a hike in december and three more hikes this year. that was at the -- as we've seen some of the global data turn weaker at that point and so now

they're really second-guessing everything. we're concerned about global growth. we're concerned about weakening growth in the us. i think they're right to be concerned about those things but they're much more doveish today than back in december. cheryl: the president's been tweeting from vietnam this morning. he put up a tweet about fyfiat chrysler bringing jobs back to the united states. do you think the auto industry could be that u.s. growth story that we need? >> i think it will be difficult for the auto industry to be a major growth story. i think there's some things in place that could help give it a boost over the short term. i think the new nafta 2.0 is going to make it a little more expensive to produce autos in north america and that will be a challenge longer term. cheryl: he's hopeful at least this morning about it. craig, thank you for being here. appreciate it. >> have a great morning. lauren: still ahead, america's top pharma executives faced a three hour grilling on capitol

lauren: we're talking 5g. almost every feature about the wireless service has been laid out for you except how much it's going to cost. cheryl: how much is it going to cost? let's bring in tracee carrasco. people are so jazzed about 5g. tracee: it is going to cost billions for the wireless carriers to upgrade to 5g. they've not yet settled on how they're going to pass that on to the consumer. at&t told the wall street journal, quote, given the expected ecosystem around 5g which includes things like self-driving cars, augmented reality and traditional handsets there may well be plans and pricing outside the traditional industry model. now, verizon is telling the journal it may offer consumers some other different bundles of service like for mobile phones and at home while t-mobile are telling the journal the carrier doesn't foresee the smartphone plans available today costing any differently for that 5g versus the 4g lte.

sprint said on its earnings call in january that 5g service would be embedded in some of the carriers' plans which will allow it to move customers to the higher end plans. as you can see -- cheryl: they're not answering the question. not one company. they have no idea what they're doing. 5g is years away many we know that at this point. they're worried about the security of the networks. let's talk about netflix. okay. their customers are outraged at them, at least some movie fans are. why? tracee: this is a movie that you really can't change the ending of. the netflix version of the notebook, playing in the united kingdom, omitted the film's original ending for a less heart-breaking outcome. the 2004 film featuring an elderly man recalling the love story of a young kim. noah and alley. the ending reveals gosling's character as an older man reading a diary to his wife who has dementia. the final scene has the couple

sharing their last breath in bed. the u.k. version shows the couple holding hands while birds fly over a lake. fans taking to social media, many felt that changing that heart-breaking ending was unnecessary. and betrays the original version. the notebook set to be released on netflix here in the u.s. on friday. it will be interesting to see what version they have at the e. lauren: can they he legally do that? what does this mean for all other great movies that we know and love? tracee: i'm not sure. maybe they shortened it, they ended it at a place where it wasn't. cheryl: yeah. that's weird. i don't think they can do that. that's just my opinion. don't do that, netflix. we'll see what happens. trace, thank you. take a look at futures this morning and how we're shaping up on your wednesday, as the of course summit gets underway between president trump and kim jong un in vietnam. dow down 88 in the premarket, s&p down 8 and a quarter, nasdaq

or 60 points. the dax is down about the same percentage-wise. and finally, asia closing the session mixed. the one red arrow in hong kong, down just fractionally. the nikkei in japan and shanghai in china each gaining half of 1%. cheryl: u.s. trade representative robert lighthizer on capitol hill today, he's going to testify on the status of u.s./china trade talks before a house panel. will he support the president's positive rhetoric that a deal is going to be, well, great. john layfield joins us now. there's been different viewpoints an analysis, especially from the wall street journal about whether or not lighthizer is going to paint that rosey of a picture about the deal we could be crafting with the chinese. what are you expecting? >> i think he's going to lower expectations is what i think. i don't think he's going to try to cross the president. the president would fire him on twitter if that happens. i think that he's probably going to diminish expectation as best he can. i think he realize that's we're not going to get a good deal

with the chinese. the president negotiates exactly opposite of teddy roosevelt. the president speaks very loudly and settles for a deal that's worse than he could have got in the first place. the government shutdown, he could have got $1.6 billion before the shutdown. he had two years of the republican control of the house and senate. he didn't do anything to get the wall funding then. he shuts the government down and takes $1.3 billion. i expect the same thing from the chinese. i'm sorry to be a pessimist on all this. i sound like a leftist. i'm fan of what the president's done with the economy and tax cuts. i have zero faith in this trade team and the president's ability to negotiate a trade deal. cheryl: i mentioned the journal and other news outlets have talked about the relationship between lighthizered and president trump. the new york times is reporting that trump is going to be undermined by lighthizer. that's harsher words being aimed at lighthizer. i want to move on to other things happening in washington. in particular, alexandria

ocasio-cortez, she is now getting kind of a tit-for-tat with ivanka trump. i want you to listen to this interview that ivanka trump gave to fox news and what she had to say. >> you've got people who will see that offer from the democrats, from the progressive democrats, alexandria ocasio-cortez. here's the green new deal, here's a guarantee of a job and think yeah, that's what i want. that simple. what do you say to those people? >> i don't think most americans in their heart want to be given something. i spent a lot of time traveling around this country over the last four years. people want to work for what they get. so i think this idea of a guaranteed minimum is not something most people want. they want the ability to be able to secure a job. they want the ability to live in a country where there's the potential for upward mobility.

cheryl: so aoc decides to respond to her via twitter. she says a person who actually worked for tips and hourly wages in my life and i happened to learn about it and i can tell you that most people want to be paid enough to live. this is about jobs. this is the conversation that we're in right now. >> yeah, it is. and i think people look at this and really don't like either messenger. what does ivanka trump know about working for a living. she's born in the right family. she's a reality star. so is kim kardashian. i'm a horrible pessimist this morning. i don't see why ivanka trump -- she's right here. she's the wrong person to give the message. i'm not a fan of the green new deal. it costs too much money. there's certain things, retrofitting of businesses that matter. $93 trillion, we can't pay for this. every bartender in america think they can be a congressman.

nothing against ocasio-cortez. i don't like the green knee new. ivanka trump is not the right messenger to bring out this mess. cheryl: great to have you on the show. you can watch the full interview on ivanka trump next sunday at 9:00 p.m. eastern time on the fox news channel. lauren: ceos of drug makers were grilled for sky high prices. they were defending their actions before the senate finance committee, saying there is no quick fix to lower prices, not all the senators were buying it. >> if the taxpayer's paying that money for something which over-the-counter is $200 a month and we're paying $2,600 a month, it's almost as if the taxpayer has stupid written on their face. lauren: the hearing took place as house democrats plan to unveil a medicare for all bill today that doesn't include a

price tag. let's bring in dr. seagal. i want to start with the hearing yesterday. did lawmakers, did you get the answers you were looking for? >> no, i mean, actually the drug makers are trying to obscure the problem which is there's a $333 billion price tag on what prescription drugs cost in the united states every year. and you just heard senator bill cassidy talking about that. he's a physician and he knows from that point of view what that means. and you know, you heard richard gonzales at this hearing yesterday who is the ceo of abvie trying to explain why a drug like humira, why it has doubled in price, list price over the past couple years. doubled in price. and here's the problem, lauren. that price gets transferred to the consumer. i mean, the middle managers, the pharmacy benefit managers negotiate that price down. by the time it gets to the consumer, the list price is seen in the copay that the patient pays. so you don't have price

transparency. the trump administration has tried to move in the direction of more price transparency so you know what the list prices are because ultimately the patient is paying for it. and that's what has to change. lauren: is that the only solution, though? >> well, that's one of the big solutions, because if you know what you're paying for, maybe you'll have more outrage. and then you know of course gonzales was saying, well, the cost of research and development and humira's a job that backs all of our research, that's a good argument but i don't know if it's necessarily true with the prices skyrocketing like this. you know what the bigger problem is? we sell overseas for much lower prices. that's got to stop too. trump administration is saying let's create price fixes that are based on what the foreign governments are paying. i think it might be better to look at it in terms of export taxes. why should they have to pay less than we are. maybe we should put export taxes on some of these drugs. lauren: that's an idea. we do spend 150% more on our prescriptions here in the u.s. we have to address this other

hot button issue. today we are expecting house democrats, 100 or so have signed on to this plan, this medicare for all plan. and in it they want to eliminate virtually all private health coverage. they want to cover abortion, likely eliminate between 1 and 2 million jobs. yet dr. he seagal, they're not telling us how much this costs or how they plan to pay for it. how does that sit with you? >?>> lauren, i call this a wrecking ball to the private healthcare system. this is fronted by a representative from washington. you know what the problem here is? the problem, it isn't just 2 million jobs. imagine that you took a job that you didn't necessarily want because it gave you your health coverage, guess what happens when you suddenly get an entitlement like thisms you may leave the job. we're going to lose millions and millions of jobs as a result. it doesn't work in the doctor's office either because of all the government oversight, all the regulation, all the waiting

lines, all the rationing of care you're going to see. it's a totally new product. in canada, which has a similar type of healthcare system, you see long lines for basic procedures like hip replacements. you're going to see that here. lauren: if that doesn't make your blood boil, one of the ideas for how that congresswoman plans to pay for this is taxes on high income earners. dr. seagal, thank you for coming on. >> good to see you, lauren. cheryl: here are some other headlines making news this morning. pakistan's air force says it shot down two indian war planes that entered disputed territory and captured two pilots. they shut down the air space as well. this is an escalation of events that comes after indian troops launched an air strike which pakistan says killed six civilians. the long-time rifl rye rival nae both armed with nuclear weapons. the ninth circuit court of appeals is getting another judge picked by president trump. senate republicans pushing

through nominee eric miller many. consisten,confirming him withoue consultation of california senators. house republicans claiming a victory during a climate change hearing after democrats didn't show up. republican congresswoman louis gomert forced to end the hearing because only two democrats of the natural resources subcommittee were even there. texas republican called the climate hearing a waste of taxpayer time and outside of the committee's jurisdiction. well, former vice president joe biden his family is encouraging him to run for president in 2020. he says he's, quote, very close to making a decision to join the crowded democratic field. even though he hasn't declared, biden regularly tops the poll as the democrats' likely nominee and that is what's happening now. no pressure on the former vice president. lauren: coming up, we are less than an hour away from the second face-to-face between president trump and north he korea's kim jong un, speaking of
