cherished, and respected by the american people more than you will ever know. so true. more than you will ever know. when i took office one of my highest priorities was to reduce violent crime. in the two years before my inauguration, violent crime was up substantially, very substantially, and murders had increased by more than 20%. for this reason, my administration resurrected project safe neighborhoods, bringing together citizens groups, sheriffs and police departments to put dangerous offenders behind bars, while supporting crime prevention and reentry programs. part of the reason we are doing well is that people are getting jobs because the economy may be the strongest it's ever been. all of your states are doing very well. i think we have the strongest economy perhaps ever, the lowest unemployment rate we have ever had. you could say 51 years or you

could say ever but groups, if you look at african-american, asian american, hispanic american, the lowest unemployment rate historically ever, so that helps a lot with what you do. we deployed 200 new violent crime prosecutors. we charged a record number of firearms offenders and last year, we prosecuted the most violent criminals ever, the most ever in our history also. with your help and leadership, violent crime is now going down for the first time in a long time. murders in america's largest cities dropped by 7% between 2016 and 2017. last year, we passed historic legislation to combat the devastating opioid and drug crisis and i'm dealing with china right now on a very big trade deal, as you probably have read, heard, some of you are a little bit involved but i can tell you, i said to president xi

that we cannot let fentanyl into our country. almost 100% comes from china. it's devastating, as you know better than i do. it's devastating and he has promised to, and they are in the process of doing so when i take him for his word, make it a criminal act at the highest level which in china means the death penalty. that should have a massive impact on fentanyl coming into our country from china. this legislation expands life-saving treatment and authorizes funding for local law enforcement to help those badly addicted get the treatment they need. our state attorneys general are launching bold initiatives to fight this epidemic. in arkansas, attorney general leslie rutledge, where is leslie? thank you, leslie, very much. great job you do. has taken on the drug companies, launched a ground-breaking education program and trained local law enforcement to

investigate and prosecute those responsible for the opioid epidemic so i want to thank you very much. everyone's talking about it. great job. but to defeat this deadly epidemic, america's southern border must be urgently and very strongly secured. we fight wars 6,000 miles away. we spend billions and billions of dollars. but we don't control our own border. drug trafficking and human traffickers exploit our porous border to finance their ruthless operations across our hemisphere. one in three migrant women is sexually assaulted on the very dangerous journey north. criminal cartels terrorize innocent people on both sides of the border. thousands of our citizens are killed by lethal narcotics. 88,000 people just with certain types of drugs, most of which come through the southern border. 88,000 people die and that's

just a small portion of it. hard-working people of every background pay the price for lack of border control and security. in the last two years, i.c.e. officers made 266,000 arrests of aliens with criminal records, including those charged or convicted of approximately 100,000 assaults and these are new numbers. hard to believe. 30,000 sex crimes and 4,000 murders. every day, our brave i.c.e. officers are on the front lines protecting our communities. we must always support the heroes of law enforcement and we all support law enforcement in every way. sanctuary cities that release known criminal aliens put all americans at risk. i urge everyone here today to make sure that your states and cities are fully cooperating with the department of homeland security in their life-saving mission. we all share the same righteous

i'm david asman. we have kristina partsinevelos, liz peek, jonathan hoenig and gary kaltbaum. liz, we have this situation where he's essentially setting the stage for his emergency measure which is going to be voted down by congress. he's going to veto their measure to vote it down. what happens next? >> i think it's partly doing that and partly just laying out for the 2020 election which is kind of what he's doing every time he speaks publicly now, issues that are important to american voters and issues that he can take some pride in and point to. i think certainly, law and order is going to be one of them and securing the border is clearly high on that list but that's not the only thing. i think also combatting the opioid addiction and if they can get a deal with china that actually does cut down the flow of fentanyl into this country, that would be huge. >> to that point, i went to the airport and i found fentanyl, they showed me how they capture it. some of it, small little pieces

were actually in birthday cards. you open up musical birthday cards. that's how specific they can get. when we are talking about ports of entry, sorry, the border, i think we really need to raise awareness about the drugs are primarily coming through the ports of entry, not the large sections of the border. >> not entirely. >> according to u.s. customs and border patrol, they released a report saying 90% of heroin seized, all the drugs coming into the united states at the border was at the ports of entry. we don't know what's coming in -- this is something everyone keeps talking about. don't let me interrupt you. >> all the justifications given for a border wall seems to me that drugs are actually the least important. if we have learned nothing from the last what is it, three decades on the war on drugs, kristina pointed out people will find a way to smuggle in exactly the drugs they want and in fact,
5:11 pm
the black market makes the crime associated with that drug trade even more difficult. i think the president has got a lot of reasons he wants to build that wall. the idea that somehow it's going to stop the illicit trade of drugs just belies the past decades in this country. >> i keep reading about the human factor, about women being raped, kept in dark rooms, being told they are going to a safe space, then look out. that to me is the most important part of this equation. look, i think liz was right, this is a marker being put down for 2020. either strict and strong immigration or less than that, depending on what the left tries to say as we move forward and it's going to be one of the -- obviously a top one, two or three things that he will be watching for. >> i read today there was a fine of fentanyl coming into the country, not a huge quantity, but to kristina's point, enough to kill two million people.
5:12 pm
>> those numbers are crazy. >> it is really crazy. david: of course, we just heard the president say that he's working with the chinese and he kind of approves, gave the nod of approval to the chinese imposing the death penalty on any exporters. i'm wondering with the chinese, do you think that will do any good? >> no, because fentanyl comes through the black market even from china. so even if the chinese say they will stop the drugs coming into the country, it's happening anyway behind their backs. david: capital punishment does have a tendency to focus the mind, does it not? >> it gets their attention, i would think. >> rather than, you know, more criminal punishment for drugs at least here in america, david, i think some efforts to decriminalize, to legalization for example with cannabis as we have seen spouting up, that might in fact decrease a lot of the opioid addiction that we have seen over the last couple of years, in my opinion. [ speaking simultaneously ]
5:13 pm
>> there is some study saying in cities where they have legalized marijuana there's more opioid addiction. maybe those two things are not related but that's what the stats look like right now. >> maybe we should have the death penalty for that as well. then we would have no drug addicts in america. >> jonathan -- >> kind of what you are alluding to? >> i think you are changing the conversation. we are talking about hard drugs here like opioids, like fentanyl. when it comes to cannabis, i agree with you but through legalization, i think we are eventually heading in that direction. you are seeing a lot of companies capitalize off of that. at the moment, the topic is about dangerous drugs and how -- because 110 people diape per da in america. >> it's 2019. it's 2019 and i think i have been hearing the words "war on drugs" since my bar mitzvah. we are no better off now than we were back then. whatever we have been doing to stem the tide hasn't worked that well. david: all right. last word. the same day venezuelan opposition leader juan guaido

at customink.com david: venezuelan opposition leader juan guaido returning to venezuela under threat of arrest by dictator nicholas maduro, self-proclaimed democrat socialist congresswoman alexandria ocasio-cortez, when asked about the situation, would not say whether she denounces the dictator, saying quote, this is absolutely a complex issue.
5:19 pm
i think it's important that we approach this very carefully. i myself just like anyone else who is absolutely concerned with humanitarian crisis that's happening and i think it's important that any solution that we have centers around the venezuelan people and centers around the democracy of venezuelan people first. i am very concerned about u.s. interventionism in venezuela and i oppose it, end quote. joining us is former u.s. ambassador to venezuela. ambassador, what is complex about a dictator who has closed congress, taken over the courts and is starving the people? i don't see complexity there. do you? >> it should certainly not be complex to a member of the united states congress and i think perhaps we are paying far too much attention to one that has already admitted she doesn't know very much about what's going on in the middle east and she obviously with these remarks has made it clear she doesn't know what's going on in venezuela. it's very sad. >> ambassador, question for you.
5:20 pm
one of the things that she is not swayed by is that 50 nations, 5-0 nations have come out to support guaido which is pretty much the entire world with the exception of cuba, china and russia. at this point, what can all those 50 nations and the united states do to further the ouster of maduro? what's going to happen here? >> well, you're right, it is the democracies of the world versus the autocracies of the world and totalitarian states of the world. the democracies are supporting guaido and the unarmed civilians in the streets of venezuela, and the authoritarians and totalitarians and i guess two or three democratic socialist members of the u.s. congress are supporting the dictatorship, a dictatorship that was not freely elected, that holds power by force, that has killed people, that has threatened the lives of the legitimate president of venezuela who is juan guaido,
5:21 pm
and i think what the countries of the western hemisphere and others are saying is that it's time for the dictatorship to leave peacefully, because if it doesn't leave peacefully, the result could be extremely tragic. >> mr. ambassador, this is gary kaltbaum. the one thing i don't understand, it seems to me that everything that counts here is military and that for some reason, nobody has been able to incentivize the military to turn on this guy even though he's destroyed a country, people and all hope going forward. what do you think, is there anything out there that could get the military to turn, because i think the beginning of the end would be there. >> okay. we have to remember that for 20 years, first under chavez, now under maduro, the socialist government of venezuela, they call themselves that, i'm not denigrating them. they call themselves a 21st century socialist state, has
5:22 pm
incentivized, to use your term, their own military by bribing them. they have given billions of dollars in bribes over the last 20 years to the top military officers. they are -- they have in fact made billionaires also of a lot of private sector people who have allowed them to conduct business both domestically and internationally. these are oligarchs. but they have forgotten, however, to feed the rest of the population. they stay in power because they have control over the military. if the military underneath those generals and colonels decide it is time for the people up at the top who have benefited from 20 years of stealing the people's money, then i think you are
5:23 pm
going to see some change. but the problem is that democratic countries outside of venezuela have very little influence over the military inside of venezuela. >> ambassador, we have -- jonathan, one second. if we are going to focus on how to overcome the situation now that guaido will be re-entering the country, is it up to military intervention, is it about the venezuelan population cutting a deal or the united states cutting a deal with maduro and his cronies to essentially seek refuge somewhere? what is the next step so we can move past this process? >> okay. something very important has already happened which is that guaido incredibly valiantly has re-entered venezuela. he went into venezuela this afternoon on a commercial plane, flying in from panama. he went through the airport. he was applauded and cheered, even by the immigration and
5:24 pm
customs people who i think maduro was hoping would stop him. he went all the way to the city which is 45 minutes away from the airport, and he's giving speeches in downtown caracas even as we speak. something incredible is happening in venezuela. we need to support that. how do you get maduro out? i think the preferred method definitely is negotiation. nobody wants violence. certainly the united states doesn't want military intervention because we are the ones unfortunately who put up, you know, the troops and we put up the dead and there's going to be a lot of dead civilians as well. but we can have i think some kind of negotiation if we pressure the people up at the top and make them realize that they can save their lives, their family, perhaps even some of the money that they have stolen, if they leave peacefully. >> ambassador -- jonathan, i'm sorry. we have run out of time. we wanted the ambassador for the first segment.

make no mistake, we are living through a full-fledged crisis in our democracy. >> i'm john hickenlooper. i'm running for president because we're facing a crisis that threatens everything we stand for. david: well, democrats certainly sounding the alarm on just about everything. hillary clinton and new 2020 presidential hopeful, colorado governor john hickenlooper, warning of a crisis in america. this as we are seeing the economy grow nearly 3%. last year, jobs have been added for 100 straight months. unemployment rate near historic low. incomes and wages growing at the
5:30 pm
fastest pace in a decade. very strong consumer confidence as well. despite today's sell-off, markets are still approaching record highs. up nearly 11% so far this year. so gang, where's the crisis? >> if it's not in the economy, but i do think there's an idealogical crisis. there's a philosophical crisis in this country. what is america about? what is the proper role of government? it is up for grabs. traditional ideologies our opposing parties have had are now thrown out the window. the left is explicitly socialist and the right was traditionally defended free markets, for example, have more of a nationalist tilt. secretary clinton is right. there is a crisis but it's more in the proper role of what the government is. >> she was talking about the crisis in democracy and continues on to talk about white supremacists rising forward and racism, so that actually pulls into jonathan's point perfectly. this isn't about the economy right now.
5:31 pm
things are really going really well. there's no doubt about it. i think a crisis point in the near future is our debt. the fact that corporate debt, government debt, is just hitting these numbers that are astronomically high. we are talking about by 2029, we could potentially see u.s. debt hit $33 trillion. the deficit hit about $3 trillion. then the concerning part is the debt will be more than gdp. we don't want that as a country where we are borrowing more than we are producing. i think that's pint of concern that we need to think about for all generations, younger people and grandchildren, they are going to be paying for this for years to come. >> but it's not a crisis. i would argue that in fact, the best measure of where our country is right now sort of emotionally, sympathetically, et cetera, is looking at the polling on the direction of the country and in fact, since the election in 2016, it has basically gone straight up. you know, you can really talk about economics and philosophy and all the rest of the stuff. the truth is more americans are

satisfied with where our country is today and where we're going than they were during the obama administration. i think it just gets better and better. >> the second biggest crisis for me, the new york knicks have only -- david: forget about it. >> it's so depressing. look, thank you, kristina, for bringing up the number one crisis. i think it's folly to think it's not. this coming year, the first $500 billion of our tax dollars is going towards interest and that's a sin. that's money going down the chute. unfortunately, no party is doing anything about it. i know everybody thinks well, we went from 10 to 15 to 20, we are now 22, everything is okay. there's always a day of reckoning when it comes to debt and deficit. but in answer to these people on the left, the crisis would be if they took over. they are not just lefties, they are left of lefties. they propose every tax in the book. i believe late today we have
5:33 pm
another proposal from ocasio-cortez who she co-sponsored for a trading tax. back to reagan, if it moves and if it breathes, they tax it, they subsidize it and that will be a big crisis if they ever do take over. david: you are all too young to remember, but i do. the socialist vanguard as they call themselves in the united states are always searching for disaster. they are always searching for a crisis. they see the proletariat where they don't exist in the united states. i would rather have a country that's 100% poor than one that has an 80% middle class because they totally ignore the middle class. >> by the way, they have chided president trump for being negative. certainly at his inaugural address he called out various problems we have in this country. the truth is, americans don't want the hear that. they want to hear a more upbeat view of where we're going, where we are. i think if democrats stay on this theme, they are not going to do very well. >> i think to your point, exactly why this whole notion of wealth inequality that the democrats just beat over and
5:34 pm
over again is really such a non-issue. in america, a rising tide truly does lift all boats. just as jeff bezos has gotten rich, we have all benefited from the wealth that he's created. >> no. how could you say it's not an issue? you can even bring it back to quantitative easing. back in 2008, you are throwing money into the market, that helped asset prices skyrocket. the older generation are benefiting from dividends and rent, then you have the younger generation that is only relying on income. we saw -- david: be careful when you talk about the older generation. some of them are sitting right here. i'm joking. we have to run, gang. we got to run. we could have a whole new subject on equality and inequality. meanwhile, house democrats unleashing a sprawling probe of president trump. we are live on capitol hill with the latest details on that, next. >> there's no collusion. so now they go and morph into let's inspect every deal he's ever done. we're going to go into his finances. fact is, every insurance company hopes you drive safely.

are you in good hands? david: the house judiciary committee is launching a sweeping new probe into president trump, sending document requests to 81 people in the organization. the investigation under judiciary chairman jerry nadler is said to focus on obstruction of justice, public corruption and abuses of power. fox news' mike emanuel joins us with the latest. reporter: good afternoon. the house judiciary chairman by sending these requests to 81 different entities is looking at a really sweeping probe going into the president and a lot of his associates in recent years. the president was asked today about chairman jerrold nadler. >> i cooperate all the time with everybody. the beautiful thing is no collusion. it's all a hoax. reporter: the house judiciary

associates and even his family. david? david: mike, good stuff. thank you very much. so, gang, do the markets care about all this? what do you think? >> the markets will care about it. look, this is just the first 81. who knows what's next? i was watching my favorite judge with you, judge napolitano, where he says they are going to go after more than ten years of financials and just add in the fact the media is going to be driving to the hoop 24/7 with this, the market's going to be having to watch this 24/7. yeah, there could be a definite negative effect as we move forward. by the way, the way nadler's talking, guilty, guilty, guilty, before they even look at anything. >> you know, i think that's right, but i think the american people are going to have a basic sense of fairness and this is just a monstrous showboating fishing expedition. they have no idea what they're looking for. any president could be subject to this kind of harassment and i think that's what it basically boils down to. i find this offensive. i think a lot of americans will.
5:42 pm
>> i think if we are talking about the market, the new york stock exchange today, one trader said it really well. he said anything that cracks the republican holding office will hurt the market. maybe not a huge factor today, didn't maybe contribute to some of that downward swing we saw in the afternoon, but i think the concerning part is that you have this mueller case that is going to be disappointing for democrats. you have cohen's testimony where he pretty much said that trump did not directly tell him to lie, maybe indirectly but not directly. i think if the word impeachment comes into play, do not think it's a smart move for democrats. i think if they want to go after it, they have to go after the individual part, like financial -- sorry, go ahead. >> i just remember the market going up and up and up all the time through the bill clinton impeachment. i mean, there were tons of investigations over monica and the market did very well through there. look, this is checks and balances. this is why we have a government of laws, not of men. the democrats are essentially going on a fishing expedition. they just might find something
5:43 pm
so i don't think the market is impacted unless we get something like embezzlement or something really awful that does in fact lead to potential impeachment or removal from office. then it's katy, bar the door where the market goes. >> you are forgetting the other part of the equation, as i mentioned, and that's the media. there are certain networks out there that are just 24/7 ripping this man to shred on his good days, bad days -- >> gary, the market has gone up for months. >> let me finish. i understand that. all i'm just saying is the potential possibility of trouble for markets as we move forward into this. let me just say this. they are playing for keeps. they are not playing for fun right now, the dems. they are going after him. i hope i'm wrong. >> i think you're wrong because most business media and ourselves included were not showing it as much as regular let's say news organizations. that's why we are called fox business. that's why i watch all the competition business channels and i would say they do not cover it as much as everybody else. i don't think that's a valid argument. >> it's nothing to do with

coverage. it's about we always say it's about uncertainty. if they discover something that leads to the president getting removed from office, yes, in fact the market is going to react accordingly. >> i agree. i'm just saying to both of you the market has gone up pretty much for two solid years in spite of a mueller investigation which i take much more seriously than jerry nadler poring through old tax returns. i think the american people will get bored with this, then they will get mad about it. because it is not right to have basically the white house under this kind of scrutiny the entire four years of this presidency. david: as jonathan pointed out, we actually had an impeachment. we had a real impeachment and a trial in the senate for president clinton and the market didn't seem to care even then. it shows you, we have two tracks, the economy and politics. i think they will stay separate. all right. alexandria ocasio-cortez in more hot water, this time being called out for violating her own green pledge. the infuriating details you do not want to miss.
