welcome to the show you're watching the fox business network. let's get to edward lawrence at the white house, it was an extremely busy day today, in washington edward. reporter: yeah, very busy, in fact president donald trump saying he is putting what he calls hard hitting sanctions on iran's supreme leader as well as other major senior officials in iran, now this basically denies them access to the banking system in the u.s. and allied banking systems. president trump: these measures represent a strong and proportion at response to iran's increasingly provocative actions we will continue to increase pressure on tehran. reporter: there have been more than 1,000 sanctions placed on iran under this administration since 2017 and it's by far the most active sanction program for the treasury department. now president donald trump also stack tackling healthcare crisis and signed an executive order on

transparency and pricing. consumers must be aware of the real costs related to the care that they get. president trump: the decades powerful companies, lobbyists and special interest have denied the public access to the real cost of the healthcare services they provide. it's that simple. this lack of price transparency enriched industry giants greatly costing americans hundreds of billions of dollars a year. reporter: that's big changes coming for health care providers specifically hospitals, in the next 60 days the department of health and human services were proposed a regulation requiring hospitals to publicly post standard charge information, in 90 days, as for comments on expected out of pocket costs for items for services, and in 180 days, a report addressing who is slowing down the effort to have those prices transparent. the president is saying he wants to make sure there's consistency and no one is over charged for those procedures. the president also tackling healthcare in this way before he

be ready to be in place when the g20 summit ends, liz? liz: thank you edward in washington d.c. we've got plenty more to discuss on iran later in the show, including a report from the pentagon also strategic analysis from retired general jack keane. let's get to bernie sanders out with his plan to wipe out $1.6 trillion in student debt. it's a splashy policy drop just two days before the first democrat debate in miami and this is a bigger cancellation plan than the one from elizabeth warren. let's bring in art laffer. great to see you, art. >> hey, e-mac it's wonderful to be on your show thank you for having me. liz: so art bernie wants to pay with a tax on stock and bond trades, in reality i think he wants to take about $2 trillion in taxes over 10 years out of the same 401 (k) accounts that students own and labor union pension funds too. isn't sanders being a bit
6:07 pm
misleading here? >> oh, totally but let me just say, e-mac, there are way too many college students today. a lot of these kids who were there aren't getting the education to provide them with higher incomes and higher earnings in the future. they should be in technical schools and where they're really needed in the workforce and they aren't getting that type of education so this type of just panhandleing to people is just ridiculous. bernie sanders is guaranteeing that he can't be elected and if he were elected, we would be living in venezuela which is just crazy. he doesn't understand that he's way too old and i'm older than he is. he's way too old to be running for office and especially with these policies. i mean george mcgovern wasn't this bad. liz: i don't know if age is an issue but here is the thing let me back up. >> age is an issue here. when you haven't lived through experiences like some of these people have in venezuela and east germany and east europe, when you haven't lived through that and haven't seen it, you know, you tend to idealize all
6:08 pm
of us living together in a moment, but that's not the way the world really is. the world is really run by incentives. and if you takeaway all of the disincentives of going to college, having to pay for it, you're going to get way too many people going and they aren't productive in the labor force. liz: to your point, his plan does not address the reason. >> it's all incentive. liz: it doesn't address the reason out of control debt it's college tuition gouging. colleges are tax exempt, student debt ballooned from 90 billion to 1.6 trillion in two deck decades. i want to get to this clinton's form press secretary is saying americans are going to see their taxes increase as their taxes go up, if democrats win. watch this. >> in reality for democrats is very often they come into office after republicans have been there and have to deal with the deficit so i think you're going to see tax increases if the democrats win, on corporations, under the trump tax cut but i
6:09 pm
don't think you'll see anything in terms of like total wiping out of student debt in this country. liz: joe biden is saying i'm not campaigning on free everything. he said that just recently. 2020 ohio democrat tim ryan, he's the one whose saying, art, that the democrat party is perceived as elite and out of touch with the working class. your reaction to all of that? >> yeah, i think he's right. i think ryan is correct. the democratic party is way out of touch with the world. they are no longer any candidate democrats there, bobby or jack. there are none of those and no bill clinton's left in the democratic party. bill clinton was a great president. he cut taxes dramatically when he was in office. he kept government spenting as a shear gdp by four percentage points. government spending is taxation and he did a great job i voted for bill clinton twice i've worked with democrats i did jerry brown's flat pass when he ran for president. the deputies have lost entirely and now are just going crazy.
6:10 pm
i don't even know what they think. it doesn't make any sense to me at all, but you know it'll all work out in the end believe me. nixon, as unpopular as he was, beat mcgovern 49 states to 1. liz: to your point getting back to the college plan from bernie sanders, i talked to a college dean, a dean of a college who said our janitors and our cafeteria workers want to unionize. he said well if they unionize, they are just going to raise everybody's tuition that's a knee jerk reaction. i want to back up. tell us what it was like to be awarded the presidential medal of freedom and congratulations for that. president trump gave you that last week, art. >> it was the most heavy experience i've had in my life, it was the best day ever to be honest with you. i don't deserve it but boy i'm not giving it back. i just love it, and it was such a wonderful moment i had my whole family, best friends there as you know, larry kudlow and steve moore and steve forbes were all there. it was just a wonderful wonderful event, and i'll never

forget a moment of it as long as i live it was just wonderful. liz: did you go to sleepwearing it that might? i'm just kidding art laffer. >> i didn't go to sleep for days before or after. in fact i've been wearing it non -stop, i took it off just for the show. but seriously, it's just such a huge impact on my life. i can't tell you how grateful i am to the president for that. it's just wonderful. liz: art laffer we love you. i love you e-mac too. you guys are the greatest ever by the way. thank you for having me on. liz: thank you. come back soon. let's get to the markets the s&p closing just about 9 points off of its record high, the dow closed about 100 points of its all-time high, and this after months of the bears warning the bears on wall street saying stocks are rolling over telling investors slide down that shoot and get out of the market boy you would have lost a lot of money listening to then christina partsinevelos has more christina? reporter: liz, you have it exactly right, so we had a mixed

day today a lot of investors telling me at the new york stock exchange they're really focused on the g20 summit and whether there's a positive meeting between president trump and xi-jinping of china, but moving forward, it's merger monday. there was a big merger today and that had to do with el dorado resorts and caesar, huge $17.3 billion cash and stock deal, and taking overall of caesar's debt as well what is it going to be called? the new company is called caesar s but the top executives actually come from el dorado this deal is expected to close in the first pass of 2020 but the largest gambling and entertainment company in united states and another technology story, slack. slack went public last week, had a great ipo, but there's a little bit of it that went to the downside today, and part of that could be because microsoft released, they have a list called the prohibited and discouraged technology list

essentially banning slack for its employees. discouraging its employees to not use slack and the reason they're citing it is because of security concerns; however you can say they are competitors but the company says that's not the reason. it's purely because of security issues. liz? liz: christina partsinevelos thank you so much. moms and dads and kids out there did you hear that toys "r" us is making a comeback? well it's true. it shut its stores last year but toys "r" us is now planning to come back and hoping just ahead of the holidays there are fewer stores smaller but they will be back. we've got a special programming note for you, make sure to catch toys "r" us former ceo talking all about that, tomorrow morning at 9:00 a.m. eastern time, on "varney" & company right here on the fox business network. coming up president trump hitting the pause button, on ordering i.c.e. to conduct raids and major american sit cities to

6:22 pm
i'm not sure she should be the authority here. as far as the democrats, if they true believe this is a humanitarian crisis, and it is, for all of us that have been to the border i would hope that it would put partisan politics get the 4.5 billion the president has requested once again he's tried to negotiate in good favor calling off due to nancy pelosi 's request speaker pelosi 's stopping all deportations for another two weeks, trying to move the needle too give the aid needed there. all of us know this is an issue. it's overwhelming to our country right now. we've got a lot of other thins that need fixed long term and i hope the democrats will work with us. liz: the thing is the border patrol guys and women they were not tasked with this job of basically monitoring these facilities in the way that they're being blamed for these conditions. it is a bipartisan problem that needs to be fixed. you know, border protection and customs spent i think $2.3 billion maintaining and building 650-plus miles of physical barriers on the
