overwhelmed by the number of people they have to process. a lot of them families. mike pence says today the administration is taking steps to stop this crisis but still needs help from congress to change the immigration laws because smugglers are working in the loopholes continuing this problem. >> i have seen it firsthand. the majority of those coming across our southern border are families with vulnerable children who are being enticed by human traffickers and drug cartels to pay cash to make the long and dangerous journey north. reporter: the president has a deal with mexico to use their immigration laws to slow down the flow to the bordered. and he expanded a program to keep asylum seekers in mexico.

the democrats are using the humanitarian crisis as a way to criticize the president. >> had the press corps not gone down in droves to the border to allow the american people to witness a human rights abuse being committed by the united states government in separating those children from their parents -- reporter: she said it wouldn't have been brought to life. the president signed a bill with $4.67 billion in humanitarian aid that passed with republicans and democrats voting for it. but the administration admits this year has been more people than the system can handle. liz: tough word for democrats over a dubious or non-existent

so they are acting in a very irresponsible way in my view. and i think senator johnson is doing his party by suggesting they ought to come back. liz: jeh johnson wrote that 2020 democrats espouse policies that are unworkable. your reaction to all of that? >> who knew we would come to the day where a supposed presidential candidate would help people violate federal law and demonstrate his view that we ought to have open borders. but that wraps we have come. i think secretary johnson is doing his party a service. i am not sure the majority of

democrats agree with it. i'm look for the democrat that emerges who receives not so fast. we can't be that irresponsible. i think there are a lot of democrats in the middle of the country who don't share that radical view. if they are looking for someone they can support in the ballot or primary or caucus somewhere. liz: acting i.c.e. director ken cuccinelli says deportation of 1 million illegal immigrants will happen. when will it happen? >> i don't know. the two weeks are up, the deadline imposed on congress to fix it. we haven't fixed it. we are seeing action in reference to bipartisan members of the judiciary committee. claishman graham has -- chairman graham has worked on closing some of the loopholes. it's difficult for the democrats

to deny we have policies that attract this. give us a little bit more time and keep our feet to the fire. but keep the transparency going. i think the threat much deporting a million people already prepared to be departr ported. -- to be deported. what that's called is enforcing the law. liz: president obama was called the deporter-in-chief. he did enforce the law. there are 14 states that allow illegals to get driver's licenses. >> they are trying to legalize something that's illegal. states have a lot of rights to do what they want. but to somehow dismiss and ignore the federal laws then try

to cover it up with crazy state laws that allow driver's licenses to legitimize illegitimate activity is wrong. and if it weren't for presidential politicians they would be able to have a discussion about this. but the democrats are running the risk of running themselves out of the mainstream of america. liz: president trump is considering an executive order to get a citizenship question on the census despite the scotus pushback. >> i don't understand why the president doesn't have all the right in the world to ask that question. the supreme court agrees with the rationale and reasons for the case. when you think all the questions we ask on a census, you would think this is basic and

important to know. i am disappointed the administration wasn't able to convince one more supreme court justice it ought to be there. i think the president ought to do an executive order. the department ought to come up with a better legal explanation why it's important. all hands on deck to get this done. liz: i'm going to throw a totally different subject at you. what's your reaction to governor cuomo signing a bill that would allow the state to release president trump's income tax returns to congress. >> it's presidential harassment. they are making this president do things that previous presidents haven't done. some have don't as a matter of volunteering to do it. this is irresponsible. we elected a very successful

wealthy businessman, a new york developer. we never had a president like this with this type of back ground. his finances and tax returns are much more complicated. this is harassment. i think it backfires frankly and governor cuomo and democrats. but trying to continue to embarrass the president who at every turn seems to get freed from any of these accusations, obviously the mueller report, i think it backfires. liz: the irs regulations show the president could force all members of congress' tax returns released to the committees. >> i was happy to turn over mine. they are very boring. liz: coming up, attorney general william barr slamming the democrats for trying to make a quote public spectacle over

president trump: iran has done a lot of bad things. it expires. iran will never have a nuclear weapon. liz: president warning iran over the weekend as iran announced it has broken through the limits on uranium enrichment. reporter: iran is steadily violating the terms of that agreement. last week it announced it stockpiled more than the limit of enriched uranium.

the state department said this is iran's effort to extort the international community. he said there is no reason for iran to expand its nuclear program in this way other than to engage in brinkmanship. >> we finished reimposing the crippling sanctions that originally brought iran to the negotiating table. reporter: iranian officials are threatening to continue breaching the deal until the european countries hem iran circumvent american sanctions. the british government says it wants iran to return to compliance and wants to find a way to make this agreement work. china and russia say the united

states is to blame for all this. the israeli prime minister says the european government should follow suit with the united states and put sanctions on iran to get out of the deal. liz: with me now, retired general jack keane. thanks so much for coming on. are we moving forward or backward? what should the trump administration do next? >> we are definitely moving forward. this is the first administration in 39 years on the strategic offense in dealing with the iranians. the maximum pressure campaign we have not seen the likes of before it's got the iranians back on their heels that way that's crippling their economy. that's what started the military provocations and sabotaging ships that were trafficking through the persian gulf and the

gulf of oman. the problem the iranians had is that backfired because we caught them at it. also our viewers should know while we did not execute a kinetic strike on iran as a result of the american drone being shot down, we executed a very sophisticated cyber sophisticated strike that i am here to tell you is considerably more impact that can be reported. that is significant. liz: what can you mayor with us about that? >> i can't share a thing about it. liz: but you know it happened? >> i have a sense of it. iranians have turned the page from military provocation and recognize that president trump in restraining the kinetic approach actually gave the president leverage with our allies that we didn't have before.

so they turned the page back in a way from military provocation. they are still trying to accomplish the same thing and get economic relief. now they are enriching uranium and our reporter mr. edson interested out accurately, they are trying to motivate the europeans to provide economic relief. and the iranians will continue to do this extortion campaign is an accurate description of it, attempting to get the europeans to assist. i would hope the europeans follow the first lead and resist this and force the iranians to comply with the enrichment. liz: iran's oil sales are at $4 billion a year. they were making $24 billion a year. they are pumping out 230,000

barrels a day. the value of its currency dropped 3/4 since last year. will france, germany and the u.k. back off of iran, not help iran, and if iran further breaches that accord, the trump pressure campaign hit it hard. >> work with our european allies and not provide relief for the iranians. let's hope secretary pompeo and john bolton are successful with that. let's assume the worse situation. we are not going to conduct a kinetic strike because the iranians are slightly increasing

enrichment. we'll give them warning if you continue down this path you are putting yourself at greater risk by doing so. those warnings the president is issuing personally himself and members of our diplomatic corps are issuing to the iranians. and so many europeans are warning them as well. let's assume they continue to go down this path and it's a worsening situation. as opposed to a kinetic strike, we can conduct a cyber offensive attack and shut down that enrichment program as we did a number of years ago and it got reported in the media. that's the path we are on. we are not on a path of going to war with iran. we are on a path, strategic offensive. stay focused on the mission. liz: thank you for your service

what magic wand do you have? liz: set that up with what the american worker is feeling. >> their wages have gown and they know the reasons. the deregulation, the fact that the corporate tax code became more competitive. i believe a lot of stuff that happened it's going to be won because the american people intuitively know the economy is better than it was. the stock market is not the determining factor but it gives you a barometer. you talk about $10 trillion being add in market cap. 24 of the last 25 presidential elections were won or lost around the stock market. going back since the 1920s has been a reliable indicator.
