i like a lot and get along with him very well, president xi, and i said i would be willing to bet that if he sat down with the protesters, a group of representative protesters up and worked it out in 15 minutes and i bet he worked out very quickly. i know it's not the kind of thing he does but i think it would not be a bad idea but if he sat down and they have a certain leadership who it if he sat down with that leadership pool i bet they could work something out very quickly. it seems like things to be worked out pretty easily did you talk to prime minister benjamin netanyahu . president trump: i will not comment on who i spoke to but my social media statement pretty well save speaks for itself. i think they are so anti- israel and so anti- jewish that again, if other people made that statement there would have been hell to pay. i did speak to people over there. yeah. >> sure, china said they want to

retaliate and will retaliate because of the tariffs increase announced. what is your response to that? president trump: if they did retaliate, which i don't think they will do, were talking to them and offering things that are very good i don't think they will retaliate that if they did, we have the ultimate form of retaliation. there are very few jobs left in china because we'd be able to step it up. just so you understand, i've been mild about it. very, very mild but there's a long way i can go somebody had to take on what was happening with china. we can't allow china to take out of our country $507 billion every year, not including intellectual property theft and so many other things. we are having very good talks with china and i think things will happen but we will see. >> if they do retaliate will you want your team to meet with them in september as planned? president trump: september the meeting is still on, as i understand it but more importantly in september were talking by phone and having a very productive talks. they would like to do something. i will tell you that. the talk we had a few days ago with my two representatives

problem in hong kong humanely solve the problem in hong kong. i think they could do it very quickly. i said yesterday i really have a lot of confidence in president xi. i know if we set down with their representatives i have no doubt he would solve that problem quickly. >> [inaudible]. president trump: i don't encourage or discourage. i think if israel allowed them to come in for the normal reasons, other than those reasons, i really believe it would be a terrible thing for israel and i think it would show a terrible sign. they want to do boycotts and they said horrible things about the jewish people and said horrible things about israel and israelis and it would be a terrible thing, frankly, for israel to let these two people who speak so badly about israel come in. they have to come. amazingly they have become the face of the democrats. democrats don't want to do anything to condemn them.

and big trade deal with the uk. we should do much more business than were doing with the uk. it's they are probably - i don't want to say there are courses because i don't want to insult other people but it certainly they are one of our closest allies anywhere in the world and we will have a fantastic relationship with the uk and a great trade deal with the uk. that's moving along rapidly. >> any other goals for the g-7, sir? president trump: i think just relationship. we have a lot to discuss. [inaudible] i think corey lewandowski would be terrific if you ran but i don't think he will run. i spoke to him about it a week ago and frankly i think it's something he'd like to do but i don't know he will do it. i think it will be very good. he loves new hampshire another country and if he didn't i think it be very formidable. >> [inaudible].

president trump: we will look at that closely and look at the whole garden situation. i do want people to remember the words mental illness. these people are mentally ill. nobody talks about that but these are mentally ill people. people have to start thinking about it and building institutions because if you look at these 60s and 70s so many of the institutions were closed and the people were allowed to go onto the streets and that was a terrible thing for our country. they closed the cities because cities can afford them and i could tell you in new york they closed a lot of them and the people went out into the streets and it's a terrible thing. a lot of our conversation has to do with the fact that we have to open up institutions and talent these people be on the streets. we have a tremendous crowd in new hampshire and it's all over the place and everyone saying wow. our competitor has virtually no grounds.

it's a long time. >> your pushing mitch mcconnell on back objects. president trump: i've been dealing with mitch mcconnell. he's a man who we had minutes success with judges and judicial appointments. we will be up to 179 federal judges within the next two months. no one would believe that possible but because president obama was unable to get them completed. i inherited about 138 empty seats. no one can believe it. we will have them almost all filled with tremendous judges and tremendously talented smart people. they will be filled within two months so i have 179 judges and two supreme court justices and that is something no one will ever have thought possible. i want to thank very much president obama for that. >> what about background checks for gun owners.

heightened concern there maybe chinese military intervention on the hong kong protest but most of the people i speak to here in the city still think that is a remote possibility. back to you. david: susan, great stuff. traffic reporting from hong kong. thank you. is president trump right to tie a trade deal into china's handling of hong kong? >> i think the president is right in saying something about the problems in hong kong especially a humanitarian crisis. to say that president xi needs to respond to mainly it's appropriate. president remind me of president reagan saying, mr. gorbachev tear down this wall. there is a role for presidents to play in the united states in crisis around the world specifically with the rhetoric they have whether that rhetoric is positive i don't think he will tie this into a straight deal but i don't think we'll get a trade deal anytime soon.

i think president xi and president trump have dug himself into corners and that they cannot back out of. i don't see an offramp and or any was resolution from trade deal coming to a conclusion anytime soon. >> i want to large my best wishes to the people in the protesters in hong kong. it such an interesting thing to me that we see them waiting the american flag and singing our national anthem as a symbol of freedom but at the same time we have athletes taking a knee here in the united states in terms of trade i think it would convolute an already convoluted trait situation to try to tie this in. i think it was a mistake to mix up trait and it protection and cyber security altogether but this would add another confusing elements. while i appreciate the president addressing it i like to keep these issues separate. >> i know we all would but guess what? i don't think so. it's not just president trump and his decision. he would like to tie together but that may not work as well on the president xi sighed.

exactly to the point of these protesters who are waving american flags right there on the screen. that no doubt enrages president xi who probably feels an impact, his own ministry has come out and say the u.s. is rabble rousing and accusing some u.s. politicians of meeting with some of the protesters. i worry that the chinese are running out of patience and we may have another tiananmen square on our hands and that would be a total and utter disaster in hong kong to lose its cause i independence. >> list, you nailed it. the biggest problem at this point in time is i don't think president xi cares what trump says. all evidence is that they're ignoring the president and we been hearing for 15 months that we had the strong hand and they are the weekends but they keep thumbing their nose at us and we are not close to a deal. we are further away from the deal than we've ever had in tying hong kong to it - i think it goes nowhere. i like the fact that the president brought it up and shows were watching and care but i think at this point in time china is doing what it will do regardless of what we think or say at this point.

products that come from china. different kinds of food products. are you worried about that? do you see that eventually coming to the bottom line of the restaurant industry? >> actually i do not. committees are looking good and proteins are good and that's not our concern. our concern is candidly that the consumer will latch on to this talk, talk of recession and get concerned about it. you know, uncertainty is always difficult for anything and everybody and these are working folks. our guests which are about 200,000 a week worked really hard for their money. really hard. >> what is your concern about the level of consumer debt because obviously we have a great economy and a great job market but the consumer debt side of the equation is reaching new highs at nearly $14 trillion higher than we were to peek before the 2008 financial crisis.

people are not paying their credit card bills quite as quickly and if consumer debt is this a concern to you? >> absolutely. in fact, i can tell you consumer debt piece of it makes people much more value conscious so people are coming - we can tell what they ordered be at advertiser, entrée or desert and how conscious they are of how much money they're spending. i think consumer debt has a direct relationship about dining out and how much you spend dining out. you may continue dining out where you pay in our space so hold your house on $50 for two people and maybe they're spending 40 or 35 because they're concerned about consumer debt. without a doubt, good point. >> thank you for joining us. the numbers globally so there is a slowdown but look at what is
