you have got to be escaping fear, persecution from your home government because of your race, religion, whatever. so if you have escaped that home government and now you are in different country. that's where you should claim asylum. right? so that begs the question. is it really about escaping fear of persecution? it's' really about getting into the united states. that's what the president is trying to address. david: we still have a lot of illegal immigrants in the united states, some of whom i.c.e. is looking for. and it's all made difficult by the sanctuary cities and sanctuary states. is there any way to move on that? >> once again the president is taking this bull by the horns

working with the department of justice. they are suing the sanctuary cities and appealing some of the decisions they have given. it takes a while to appeal the decisions. what people need to understand, the president is doing this on his own. the bottom line is the democrat leadership don't want to fix the border. they haven't offered one fix to slow the search down. d votes surge down. they want to give citizenship to those who are here illegally already. david: i want to end on a positive note. not only is the wall getting built and not only are there good changes in the asee you stlum laws. a lot of this sanctuary city stuff is losing steam. i was talking about the governor

i get the sense that rouhani was caught flat footed. first he said he was open to it, then he got some pushback from tehran. >> he's caught between a rock and a hard place because his economy is crumbling from within. unemployment is 25% for all youth and 20% for college educated youth. i those got pretty lucky. i those got a life preserver thrown to him when the french president said i will be the honest broker. i'll have negotiations. trump said that's okay, fine. then rouhani pulls back. i think he got back home. when he got to the phone, he got the phone call from the big boss. the ayatollah said we are not going to do anything with the american devil. i think they are in a bad place.

david: you mentioned how bad it's doing. it's not the same iran it was four years ago or three years ago when the president came into power. are the folks in the street, particularly the young people who we know in the beginning of the obama administration got out in the streets to protest and they received no help from washington at that time, are they about to do it again? are the frustrations boiling to that point? >> you don't know what's going on inside. let me give you obvious indicators. the. >> i to thank, the supreme leader is in his 80s and boor health. he has a president raw honey and a prime minister who would like to have a deal with the united states. but they don't have the support back home and they probably aren't going to get anywhere with trump. if he doesn't like the deal, he will walk away. the other part is those european leaders said we should all be back in this iran nuclear deal,

the european businesses are all following trump. when the iranians say america pulled out, we are not going to honor the deal, what happens to the europeans? they are still in the deal. david: you are saying the european business leaders follow trump's lead more than they do their own political leaders. >> yes. the united states made it clear you want to do business with america you won't do business with iran. so if you are a leader of an international corporation, you don't want to risk being on the wrong wrong side of trump. look at trump, he's not scared of anybody. david: we just had the g-7 in france. the president got a lot accomplished. i wonder if the european leaders tried to lean on him with the iranian situation saying come back with the fold or whether there was more pressure on them from the president to change

their way and split from the iran deal the way we did. >> i think it's a who cares. the real issues are china. the united states walks in with a full hand. we have a canada, u.s. mexico trade deal, a south korea trade deal. the president announced a japan trade deal while he was there. and he and boris johnson decided they will have a deal if the brits leave the european union. our economy is good. some of the european countries, germany and san francisco, they are slowing down. china's economy is slowing down. i think trump whether he intend to or whether it's a grand strategic plan, i don't know because i'm not in the administration anymore. but he's assembling a group of trading partners i hope can stand up to china. david: is nobody listening to

david: the criminal case against jeffrey epstein now all but dead after the apparent sex offender apparently took his life a few weeks ago. but the judge overseeing the case took an unusual step. brian llenas reports on why today is so different.

useless. john aren't suspicions are mounting, particularly with us new yorkers who are familiar enough with the system to know there are a lot of kinks in the system. do you suspect foul play? >> i still don't. though i can understand why a lot of people would. this is starting to sounds like the godfather 2. we shouldn't rush to judgment. sometimes incompetence and mistakes can be the explanation. but attorney general barr will get to the bottom of the matter and the prosecution will go forward and i suspect we'll get the truth sooner or later. david: i want to switch to another subject that's of keen into the our viewers. the decision to charge andrew mccabe is imminent. how imminent and do you think the charges will stick?

>> first i think that if mccabe's representatives are meeting with the very top leadership of the justice department then charges are probably imminent. it's their last clear chance to persuade the department not to charge him. people should keep in mind how incredible this result is. this is the second time the top ranking official of the fbi being prosecuted for lying to the fbi. the other thing is that people should keep in mind this is a sign attorney general barr is trying to get to the bottom of this one as well. even thought it looks like there might have been people in the justice department misusing their powers to put off or stop the election of president trump. it didn't succeed. now the justice department is cleaning up its own mess and holding people accountable. david: it seems it was a small,

but not a very big cabal involved in this. clearly peter strzok was part of this. his girlfriend, andy mccabe, they mention each other in texts and emails. do you think that will do it to clean it up in the fbi. then you have the question of the department of justice and bruce ohr and others there. >> as a former justice 0 department official, i don't think it stops with just a few people. you have the whole matter of the fisa investigation. why was the government's broad surveillance powers misused to spy on an ongoing presidential campaign? that needs to be solved, too. david: i want to get a third subject in if i can. it involves business interests. friday the president said in a tweet and repeated at a press conference that he had the

authority to order businesses in china to come back from china, to cease and desist under the international emergency economic powers act. your opinion as to whether he has that authority? >> that law was passed in 1977. it gives the president strikingly broad economic powers. and the president can virtually impose an embargo on china. he may not be able to order individual companies to pull out of china but he can block all economic activity between the united states and china if he wants to go that far. i think president trump can put powerful levers on american companies if he wanted to. david: so he does have that authority. democrats and the liberal media seem to love the possibility of a recession. >> the u.s. could be headed for a recession. >> on the cusp of a recession. >> it's about time we get a

democratic senator and republican senator. and it's not surprising this would happen in a nation that does that to its own citizens. the reason it was news before. and you saw rashida tlaib and congressman omar speaking out is because it was because of them. president trump placed a call to benjamin netanyahu and asked they be restricted from travel to israel. so that's what made it so newsworthy. david: deneen, shouldn't the squad members have come to support people who were put through the ringer the way they were? >> this has nothing to do about color, david. let's just put that out there first. it's not surprising that the progressive freshmen did not come to defend senator johnson because they don't care. it doesn't benefit them in any way, shape or form.

they are all about generating news and media for themselves. they have been doing it since they gone it to office. every other week there is something else going on with these ladies. i have got to tell you, it's interesting how they are ignoring senator johnson's request to go to russia. russia of course has the right to do so to deny entry. on the flip side, it's a huge double standard coming from these progressive women. david: there was an iowa community college professor who resigned after admitting he is affiliated with antifa. deneen, what does it tell you about colleges in america today, the fact that you have a college professor, i know it's a small college in iowa. that makes it even worse that in a place like iowa you would have an antifa professor? >> it's scary. i would say to parents, know who is teaching your children no

matter what grade they are in. he promotes antifa. every other week you hear something in the news about an i a attacking people. and he talked about raising issues about evangelical christians and president trump and he wants to do harm to them. these from outrageous comments from these guys. businesses and schools have codes of conduct. when you say or do something, you are out the door. that's what we saw in this case. david: you did, though the president of this college said our decision to remove the pro fistor from the class room has nothing to do with the substance of his views or the right to express. i would think the substance should have had hogo something to do with his being dismissed. you hear crickets from the left.

america. david: i think that's a terrific distinction. you have to make between the democratic leaders and the folks on the street who have to make a buck for a living. but there was an old expression where rahm emanuel who became -- he was chief of staff for obama for a while, then mayor of chicago, now he's a tv pundit. he said never let a serious crisis go to waste. it is -- you see it on the republican side, too. people who take advantage of these crises, right? >> you see it on both sides. it's a terrible thing. to wish ill to this country to promote your political views is seriously sick, i would say. i'm not a psychiatrist. but i would consider it sick to wish ill to this country to promote your political views. it's evil. it goes beyond politics.

vowing to appeal a ruling by an oklahoma job that the company must pay out $572 million for its part in fueling the state's opioid epidemic. now pharma is reportedly offering $12 million. congressman, i was shocked to find there are 6,000 oklahomaians who died last year as a result of opioid abuse. i had no idea the epidemic would hit you guys so hard. i assume you supported the attorney general who sued johnson and johnson. >> absolutely. i have spoke with our attorney general earlier. he gave me stats i was shocked by.

in 2018 there were 326 million opioid pills dispensed in oklahoma. that's enough for every man, woman and child to have 110 opioid pills themselves. david: i know the pill mills as they call them, they have been pretty successful in shutting them down over the past year and a half or so. but is it still as much a problem or does more work have to be done on the streets in getting raid of these hard pills. >> according to mike hunter. he was saying part of this settlement will help' stem that epidemic. we'll try getting those people who have been addicted to this because they are prescribed to by their doctors. we'll try getting them help. but there is still a major need. it's interesting that johnson

non-addictive. and so we want to continue to treat the patient. but what we can't do is send a product out that dye by their own research council will say 15% of everyone that's prescribed them, within the first 7-11 days will become dependent. that's crazy. we have to do better at getting pain medicine to individuals that are non-narcotic and non-addictive. david: i am glad at some point it looks like we are turning a page on this. it's far from over. but at least we are turning a page. you are from oklahoma. which is a very big fossil fuel state. you do a lot of natural gas discovery there, and recovery, et cetera. bernie sanders has come out with his green plan which is $16 trillion. it's about 10 times bigger than

mr. biden's. bernie is rising in the polls. he's nipping that joe biden's heels. it would ban frack and drilling offshore and on federal land. it bans imports and ex posts all fossil fuels. cancel oil pipe lines. it goes on and on, essentially making it impossible to do any kind of business in fossil fuels. yet there are 6 million workers in america who depend on fossil fuels for their jobs. what's going to happen to those 6 million people? >> he wants to giving this all away and give all these individual who love to work and create their own opportunities, he wants to put them on government subsidies. why don't we ask how well limiting domestic oil into that it state has helped.

the amount they have limited to be produced, now they are having the same amount brought in from saudi arabia. they haven't reduced their footprint. they are just not allowing their state to produce it so they are bringing it in. bernie wants to eliminate all the fossil fuel? where is he going to get the land mass to put in wind and solar farms? we had a study. to replace the fossil fuels that we consume in the united states, it would take a wind farm the size of texas. a land mass the size of texas to replace it. and at the same time the wind isn't always blowing and the sun isn't always shining. soy what are we going to do when those events aren't occurring? so let's be realistic and have all the above approach like oklahoma. oklahoma, yes we are an oil and gas industry state, but we are also wind energy.
