industrial average, up 24, the nasdaq down 9. cheryl: as we await thursday's ecb decision on stimulus possibly, keep a close eye on the bond mart. taking a look at the 10-year, we're down a basis point, 1.73%, the latest read on the yield. lauren: oil prices rebounded yesterday after steven mnuchin said the maximum pressure campaign on iran continues. we see a further build this morning of another 1.4%, $58.20 a barrel, gold up $ $2. cheryl: china announcing 16 american products exempt from tariffs, offering to increase u.s. ag purchases ahead of trade talks. we've got green across the board except for the shanghai composite. lauren: maybe some optimism out there. nichthe dax is up about 1%. cheryl: today, america commemorates 9/11. it is 18 years now after the

deadliest terror attack on u.s. soil. president trump is scheduled to attend an observance at the pentagon today. vice president mike pence will visit shanksville, pennsylvania and the new york stock exchange and nasdaq will hold a moment of silence this morning. lauren: brian llenas is in lower manhattan with more on the 9/11 ceremonies, 18 years later. good morning, brian. >> reporter: good morning. it's hard to believe that it has been 18 years but today is it all about the families of the nearly 3,000 innocent men, women and children who dialed on september 11th, 2001. at 7:00 a.m. this morning, the 9/11 memorial site and museum area will be open to the families of the 9/11 victims and beginning at 8:46, the moment in which the first plane hit the north tower, there will be a city-wide moment of silence here in new york. there will be five additional moments of silence here honored here at the ceremony today, two

for when the two towers were hit, two for when the towers fell and also one for when flight 93 crashed in shanksville, pennsylvania and for the attack on the pentagon. this isn't just only about new york. you remember, there were 184 people who died at the pentagon and president trump will be there to honor those victims and speak there and vice president mike pence will be in shanksville, pennsylvania to honor the 40 victims who were on flight 93 that heroically crashed with those folks there in shanksville. so today, the names of all of the victims will be read as we have seen over the last 17 years here in new york city. it will be a very moving ceremony as we all remember 9/11, some 18 years later. lauren, cheryl. cheryl: brian, thank you. lauren: as the 9/11 anniversary began earlier today in afghanistan, a rocket exploded near the u.s. embassy.

take a look at this picture. it shows a plume of smoke shortly after midnight. luckily, no one was hurt. this is the first major attack in kabal since president trump canceled peace talks over the weekend. cheryl: president trump is searching for the fourth national security advisor following the sudde par the depn bolton. >> reporter: a messy breakup between president trump and john p bolton. the president breaking the news witter, saying he essentially fired bolton, tweeting, quote, i informed john bolton last night his services are no longer needed at the white house. disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions as did others in tad medicine strayings, therefore -- in the administration, therefore i asked for his resignation. bolton said essentially that's not you how it played out. quote, i offered to resign last

night and president trump said let's talk about it tomorrow. only as hour before the president's tweet, the white house announced bolton would join the secretary of state and treasury secretary in the briefing room to speak with t reporters. but bolton was out of the white house by the time that briefing started. the secretary of state mike pompeo was asked if he was caught offguard and that ellis ted this respond. >> i'm never surprised. and i don't mean that on just this issue and i think secretary mnuchin would say the same thing. we work very closely with the president of the united states. i think we have a pretty good understanding of how he's thinking about things. >> reporter: the president and bolton had intense discussion on afghanistan monday night and bolton decided to depart on tuesday. lauren: blake, thank you very much. trade tensions between the u.s. and china may be easing. some optimism out there.

china reportedly exempting 16 u.s. products from additional tariffs set to take effect december 15th. tariffs remain in effect for soybeans, corn and many other products. this comes as beijing prepares to meet for the 13th round of trade talks. cheryl: china is reportedly ready to buy more u.s. farm products if the u.s. delays tariffs and stops the ban on huawei. a group of senators sent a letter to wilbur ross and mike pompeo, warning that china could use hong kong to steal sensitive u.s. technology and equipment. lauren: new pressure on google following the launch of an anti-trust investigation. the company is asked to submit a wide range of information about

the advertising business by october 9th. the information includes google's past acquisitions of ad tech companies and the top advertisers and publishers. cheryl: apple has unveiled its new product lineup as it looks to take on netflix in the streaming wars. lauren: let's get a look at the products from susan lee in cupper acouper atcalifornia. >> reporter: we have three brand-new iphone models, including the iphone 11 starting at 699, the iphone 11 pro and the iphone 11 pro max. the big refresh is a triple back cameras. we're talking about the wide tellephoto and ultra as well, four hours longer battery life, that's something that users probably want. in terms of hardware, we get iphones and we also got a brand-new ipad, the seventh

generation, a brand-new watch, the five series. the big news maker those be the apple tv plus, announcing it will be launched on november 1st and really cheap compared to other services, $4.99 a month. it's cheaper than disney plus which is going at $6.99 a plus and netflix's most popular subscription package, charging $12.99 a month. apple arcade, that's the gaming streaming service, also being offered later on this month for $4.99 a month. you see the integration that apple has taken. not only are they a hardware company but they want to streamline services and software as well. from california, cheryl and lauren, back to you. lauren: thank you. let's take a look at market reaction to all of this. apple shares ending higher but shares of roku tumbled more than 10% after apple announced the tv service will start at $4.99 a month. netflix and disney, they also

public offering. in an s.e.c. filing, the company says it will offer 46 million shares at a price range between $26 and $29 per share. that could push its market value up to $8 billion. not bad for a company that lost $196 million in the last year and warned that it may not be profitable in the future. new england patriots wide receiver a antonio brown has been accused of rape by a former trainer. in a lawsuit filed in florida, britney taylor says brown sexually assaulted her on three occasions. brown denies the allegations and the nfl says it will begin an investigation into the charges. and college athletes in california are one step closer to getting paid. the state assembly passing the fair pay to play act. the measure would allow athletes to make money on endorsement deals or sponsorships. right now, that's not allowed by the nc a aa. it is up for a vote in the state

lauren: john bolton, president trump's third national security advisor is out. the president said heed asked him to step down because he disagreed with many of bolton's foreign policy positions. bolton said he resigned. the difference is so severe, they couldn't even agree on how the ouster happened. james carafano is here now. this might always, james, be a case of he said, he said, but what are the real implications

of the rift between the president and john bolton when it comes to national security? >> i think that's exactly the right question, is what does this mean for american foreign policy and the answer is not much. it was trump's foreign policy. it is and will be in the future. we used to have the system that kelly and madis and they were restraining the president. the reality is, all those guys left and our foreign policy was still the same. i expect that will be the case here as well. lauren: i find it funny that particularly democrats, they were critical of the hiring of john bolton since he was such a hawk, a strong america intervening in the rest of the world but they were also critical of his firing, as is the wall street journal editorial board. i wanted to read to you this quote and get your opinion on it on the other side. it reads, america's adversaries lost a rare internal restraint on trump's constant and trainingtransactional security

instincts. the world is now a more dangerous place. your thoughts. >> look, i think they're wrong. and which is ironic, because the wall street journal has never been super aggressive on foreign policy and john wasn't. that was one of the policy differences. the problem is, look, the president and bolton split but the reality is, a lot of the president's agenda was advanced really powerfully on john's watch including being tough on iran, working closely with boris johnson on brexit. we had a good year on foreign policy. i don't think anybody has any regret whether, the wall street journal or washington post. i think people are making stuff up here. lauren: this seems to have come to a head with the president wanting to meet with the l taliban on this 9/11 week. it is the anniversary today. and potentially ahead of the u.n. general assembly and potential meeting with the president of iran.

bolton was anti- two of those things happening. the president seems to want to make deals with adversaries. is that a good strategy? >> this is the crux of the differences. they haven't different approaches. john is a hard school realist. he says you bend the enemy to your will and then you negotiate. the president has a strategy, look, i want to be tough but i also want to open diplomatic doors at the same time. look, whatever the wall street journal says, the president's been consistent in that foreign policy since day one. with china, russia, whatever. on the one hand it's do it, 3w-9 on the other hand, if -- but on the other hand, if you want to negotiate, we can. lauren: he promised voters he was going to get the u.s. out of these wars that he doesn't think we necessarily need to be in. james, thank you very much. >> thank you. cheryl: shy po chipotle facina lawsuit from new york city,

accused of violating local laws meant to protect workers, including not paying employees a premium to work certain shifts. the mayor explained the lawsuit on bulls and bears. >> when you have a company of that size that's had the ruled explained to clearly, we believe people need to be able to plan their lives, their family's lives. one of the issues, you've seen it from some of the workers that have spoken up and filed complaints, if you have to take your kid to the doctor, if you have to schedule things in advance, you need the ability to know in advance when you're working or not working. cheryl: shy both la the compa, saying they're working on the concerns. apple unleashing several new products and services, what the latest moves mean for the streaming wars and why some consumers say the new iphone

cheryl: apple is taking the gloves off against netflix and disney, announcing they'll launch their own tv streaming service, november 1st. it's $4.99 a month. this is as they unveil new iphone, ipads, watches. there's so much to go through. where do we start? i guess with the iphone. they told us earlier this year, they weren't going to give us unit sales for the iphone, so we kind of expected that we were going to get a big splash yesterday.

they dropped the price on the new iphone, it's like $600 now. >> it's not bad. it's new colors, was a big deal. this is one of the most uneventful iphone launches i thought. the iphone is about the incremental upgrades, the battery and the camera. now there's three cameras on the back for the pro, and the pro max. so, you know, yeah, they dropped the price a bit. how much was an iphone a few years ago? $600. cheryl: it was three, four, five and then it went to $1,000. >> apple's whole magic, they made $600 seem reasonable for your phone. it's like, okay, but it's an impressive device. cheryl: did you hear the noise on twitter, they suffer from a fear of closeness, the back is making them sick. it's all over twitter. >> the best tweet was said, look, apple should a shaver in a

phone and put a picture of a nor norelco. cheryl: or honey comb cereal. >> whatever they put out, someone explain about -- complain about. cheryl: let's talk about the streaming service, the big criticism, they barely have any content on the thing. are they really a player against netflix and disney right now? >> well, with that price and with their base, you have to think they are. you're talking about $4.99 a month, which is one of the cheapest services. apple, the biggest thing they announced was that you get a free year subscription for any purchase of an iphone, i-pad, mac or any hardware. that gives them time because they're going to get a big base right off the bat. that gives them essentially a year to build up their catalog. that is the biggest weakness of the service, there's the nine original and that's it. cheryl: that gives them time. you're hooked because it's free.

what do you make about the gaming announcement as well? we know that gaming is all streaming now, right? that's what kids are doing. >> subscribing to games is a tough sell when it's one game at a time like my son and daughter, they play games on their tablets and some of these things are pitching them $9.99 a month for a single game. and i think a lot of parents balk at that. when you say $5 a month for 100 games and you can share it with six family members, that's a different equation. so i think the gaming service is going to be more successful than they think. that one is a bit of a time crunch because if a lot of people don't subscribe soon, then other games that are premium won't necessarily want to get into that. they want that big base. because if you're charging $9.99 a month for your one game, you have to balance that, do i want to get in with the lower margins that apple's package will do but the bigger subscriber base, so you've got to make that equation. cheryl: thank you so much for coming in. it's a fascinating day if you're

lauren: top democrats in the race for 2020 will meet on the debate stage tomorrow night. it's round three. it will be the first time that joe biden gets to confront his progressive opponent, soaring in the polls, elizabeth warren. it looks like he's coming ready to fight. joining me now, washington examiner commentary writer tiana lowe. good to see you on set, in the

flesh. biden is expected to take on sense r tore warren and her -- senator warren and her lack of visibility when it comes to her finances, especially prior to 2008. how will that work out. >> we saw that when all the candidates started releasing tax returns, middle class joe, very wealthy, elizabeth warren also very wealthy, two of the wealthier candidates in the field. so the one way in which this could backfire is if you look at joe biden's personal business dealings, all seem fine and good until you look at his son, hunter biden and the negotiations that were made with dealings in china and the ukraine, that could not necessarily fare well for the frontrunner. this has a potential to backfire, especially considering the fact that warren was a self-made. lauren: you think it will backfire on biden. very interesting. >> it could. lauren: speaking of finances, elizabeth warren is all about returning -- she calls it accountable capitalism.

when you're someone who worked at saved and quote, unquote, did the right thing financially, your entire life, and now you hear about all of these changes she's making to how corporations work, how investors will get paid, that threatens your hard-earned retirement savings. >> absolutely. the issue is i think that it's a very different beast for warren to be trying to hold wall street accountable in 2008, 2009, versus sort of this attack on everyday successful americans. the fact remains that the return on investment and the return on capital is greater than the return on labor and this is sort of what fuels our economy and all of her wealth taxes and her planning, it really just does attack all that makes the economy grow. lauren: let's talk about the wealth tax. listen to senator warren last night in austin. >> it is time for a wealth tax in america. your first $50 million is free and clear.

but your $50 million and first dollar, you've got to pitch in two cents. all you're saying, is if you make it big, i mean really big, i mean super, duper, one-tenth of 1% big, pitch in two cents so everybody else gets a chance to make it in america. lauren: buffet, bezos, gates, they will all pay higher taxes. but if her policies were in effect when they started their businesses, a new report says their income would have been cut in half. >> the wealth tax is unconstitutional and hasn't worked anywhere else that it's put in place. you see the exodus of millionaires and billionaires from france. with it, they lose job creation. when financial incentives are taken away, from someone like a jeff bezos who is responsible for employing tens of thousands of workers indirectly, then what

is the incentive for them to stay in the country when they know they could off-shore all their cash. lauren: cheryl, over to you. cheryl: we have breaking news. the wall street journal is reporting that the hong kong exchange is offering to buy the london stock exchange, $36.6 billion. the hong kong exchange calling the merger, quote, a highly compelling strategic opportunity to create a global market infrastructure leader. again, that is crossing from our partners, the wall street journal. back at home, actress alyssa silver ston dissstone souring on starbucks. here's what she tweeted. depressing, yo saw staff using disposable cup, pour it into my mug, then pour it into my reusable mug. then i looked around the cafe,

when hijacked planes slammed into the worl world trade cented the pentagon. this is an emotional day for everyone, especially nose with a connection to the -- especiallies those with a connection to the fateful day. this is a day that especially for new yorkers in general, it's emotional for a lot of us. but for you, what does today mean, being that you were there? >> today is just a moment where we have that commitment to remember our lost brothers and sisters, it's a solemn day, a day we come together and spend time with each other at the fire house, at the monument, and really just have a moment of reflection. cheryl: i'm glad you brought that up. a lot of folks watching across the country, probably don't know at fire houses around the city of manhattan today, there will be events, not just at the world trade center. the story has continued,

especially with john fe jon stes emotional appearance in front of congress. all those firefighters that were sick after, the cleanup crews, are we doing enough do you think for those that responded to the attacks, after? >> it took 18 years, we just passed recently the victims compensation fund. it's a result in part by jon stewart's attention. a lot of folks petitioned in the effort to get this done and it was a long fight. a long battle. but i'm happy to say that nobody was lost in the shuffle. we were able to compensate everybody and protect them. cheryl: do you feel that we're safe now, 18 years later? >> i think we feel safe. i don't know how much happens behind scenes where they don't share with us what they protected us from but i'm grateful they're out there doing

that. i'm grateful that law enforcement and government is working hard to keep us safe. cheryl: today a lot of folks are going to see the new memorial that was actually opened this spring. it's the granite slabs to honor those that came and cleaned up the site. we're showing pictures of it here. how meaningful is that to you and for other survivors in the fire department and police department as well? >> it's very important to acknowledge those people. they are victim victims of sept1 attacks. it took years to impact them and take their lives. their families are missing them right now and that's representing that loss. cheryl: we appreciate you coming in today. it's an emotional day for you and many of your coworkers and we have to say never forget. >> i like to say always remember, because forgetting is not an option. cheryl: it's a day of service across the country. thank you for your time and your service here in manhattan. here in manhattan, dgc can tore fitzgerald and gfi group hold a

lauren: six states are reported deaths related to e-cigarette use since last month. kansas health officials confirm the death of a resident, although there is no information on which product they were using. deaths have been reported in indiana, medicin minnesota, cal, illinois and i and oregon. a wisconsin man has been accused of running a counterfeit scheme with vape cartridges with cbd oil. there have been many investigations into vaping deaths. cheryl: a warning from the ftc, the agency telling three unnamed cannabis companies to stop marketing cbd products as disease fighting without providing credible scientific proof. they are claiming cbd can treat cancer, alzheimer's and multiple sclerosis. the companies have 15 days to respond. lauren: china making some trade headlines this morning. reports say beijing may exempt

some u.s. goods from additional tariffs. could that lead to real progress at the 13th round of trade talks between the two super powers next month. michael lee, wealth portfolio manager, joins us now. good morning. >> you how are we doing? lauren: are you hopeful? >> i think if a deal was going to gets done, it probably would have gotten done in april. but the longerrer this goeer thi just don't know. because it seems like this is a series of testing each other in terms of will the u.s. give in, will china give in. i think china is starting to realize it can't, by taking all these tariffs on, cancer medicine and dairy products, they can't exist without the u.s. i think the u.s. could do pretty well without china. lauren: they didn't confirm they would buy more of our soybeans, for instance. and they reneged on all of that last time around. either way, markets are hopeful, at least they have been

recently, that central banks will come to the rescue with more stimulus, whether that be in china or europe or the u.s. we get that major european central bank meeting. do you expect whatever announcement they make to disappoint investors, perhaps hoping for more, because the flip side to that is all of the stimulus thus far is not helping the european economy. >> that's a great point. i'm sure they'll do something. but once rates get below a certain level, you almost exhaust your options in terms of monetary policy stimulus. once rates are below 1%, going to negative rates or anything along that line, you can only buy so many bonds. europe needs real fiscal stimulus, not monetary stimulus. we'll see if they get a that. gergermany's put that on the ta. lauren: europe needs jobs. that's the best way to stil stie the economy. jamie dimon says i don't think we're going to zero interest

rates in the u.s. but they're preparing for the possibility of zero rates. do you think that's really going to happen here in the u.s.? >> look, anything's possible. there's a lot of problems elsewhere in the world. i really hope we don't get there. it seems like the fed is going to cut 25 basis points at the next meeting. i think they would do everyone including themselves a big favor if they went to 50. what's the point of going 25 you now, 25 a few months later. if you look at the front end of the yield curve, aittle over 2%, versus the 10-year at 1.7, it would really help a lot of people by doing this and their stimulus i think would have a greater effect if they did 50 now, versus 25 and 25. lauren: we'll see. thanks for your insight this morning. cheryl: the number of americans without health insurance is actually on the rise. lauren: tracee carrasco has the details, good morning, tracee. tracee: good morning. new data from the census bureau shows more than 27 million americans were uninsured in
