as we learn new information about a phone call that inspired a whistleblower complaint from the intelligence community. chief white house correspondent john roberts leads us off with the latest. >> we don't know specifics about the complaint to the intelligence community's inspector general, only that it involves a possible quid pro quo between the president and the ukrainian president. according to the wall street journal which shares ownership with the fox news channel, president trump in a july phone call urged ukraine's president five times to look into joe biden's' son hunter. president trump did not deny it. >> did you discuss joe biden? >> it doesn't matter what i discussed.
1:02 am
he talked about millions of dollars he's not giving to a certain country unless a certain prosecutor is taken off the case. reporter: president trump dismissed a wis whistleblower's complaint about an alleged promise president trump made to a foreign leader during a phone call. moments later the president acknowledged he didn't know who the whistleblower was. but he insisted all of his calls with world leaders had been totally appropriate. and according to the "wall street journal" there will be was no quid pro quo offered. on tv last night giuliani denied and appeared to acknowledge the request. >> did you ask the ukraine to investigate joe sphwhiend.
1:03 am
>> no, i asked the ukraine to investigate the allegation there was interferenced in the election of 2016 by the ukrainians for the benefit of hillary clinton. >> you never asked about joe biden? >> to get to the bottom of how it was -- >> so you did ask ukraine to look into joe biden off course i did. reporter: it would appear to confirm some of the reporting about the inspector general's come plawnlt. but the apparent lack of a quid pro quo would appear to run counter to the narrative that there was some sort of promise made during the phone call. joining me is harmeet dhillon. the vice president of the rnc

corporation. i wrote a column entitled "the trump whistleblower may not and whistleblower at all." if you look at the statute on whistleblowers, they are allowed to file a complaint against other people in the intelligence community who may have engaged in abuse. president trump is not a member of the intelligence community. >> there is so much other stuff there. to meet the standards for the statute. there are a number of definitions that have to be a matter of some urgency. ways more likely is this is a partisan effort to undermine the president from the swamp. somebody who is probably leaking and using this as a cover to do so. we have seen dozens of examples of this. i am looking at this accusation with a bleary and jaundiced eye.
1:05 am
i think joe biden and others have a lot to gain by change the subject to kavanaugh and this allegation. gregg: negotiating with foreign leaders to make promises. it does not grant power to an unelected inferior employee of the federal government to second guess what the president is doing or approve or disprove of what he's doing. would you agree? >> absolutely. for one thing. huntser biden's deals should be investigated. it's a disgrace that they weren't. these people want it all different ways. they want the president to tell saudi arabia what to do, so it's very much situational ethics. but it's the president's job to community communicate with foreign leaders and share his views with them.
1:06 am
there is no quid pro quo. there are so many issues uncovered here. gregg: setting aside that quid pro quo is as standard policy of negotiations. the "wall street journal" is report there is no quid pro quo. what journalists seem to be ignoring is there is a quid pro quo with bind and ukrainian leaders. he's seen on stipulate bragging about how he threatened them if they didn't fire a prosecutor he would with hold a billion dollars from ukraine. why is it the media ignores that. >> that's a rhetorical question. they hate the president and they are willing to give a pass to anybody who criticizes him. who knows what the whistleblower is doing behind the scenes.
1:07 am
soap here is what joe biden had to say. take a listen. >> not one single credible outlet has given any credibility to his assertion. i have no comment except the president is not time pressive. gregg: what bind said is completely untrue. there was a main story by the "new york times" which detailed quite a bit of this tory involving joe biden, his son, and isn't he just -- isn't bind taking a page out of the hillary clinton playbook and deny it all and say it's been debunked and nobody believes it? >> of course. people are used to saying whatever they want to the media. that's what's going on here. increasingly the mainstream media doesn't seem interested? the truth. you are correct in our column. the president is the head of
1:08 am
this edfills of national security. he isn't part of it. so the whistleblower idea that anybody who works in the swamp can make a complaint against the president is silly. gregg: you had a legal victory in your battle against the state of california. california as most of people know, passed a law that was clearly aimed at donald trump. it says you can't be prient mary ballot as president unless you expose your tax returns. you convinced a judge to place an injunction on that law. >> not just myself. the president's lawyers were there. i argued for the rnc, the republican party. after 2 1/2 hours of argument we were able to convince the judge
1:09 am
there were potentially numerous grounds to strike this down. he issued an injunction from the bench. it's bad news for the governor who signed this, for the legislature that passed it. for the attorney general that defended it, and the secretary of state who wanted to enforce it it's a tko by the president and his supporters. the government should not put hurdling between the citizens and candidates. they are not allowed to do that. only the constitution sets the qualifications for federal office. gregg: the constitution also prohibited a beautiful attainder. states can't target individuals with pieces of legislation when a state is infringe on the federal rules in the
1:10 am
constitution of qualifications for president. >> we you will so talked about the first amendment, 14th amendment. due process. and the parties have a right to select their standard-bearer. and for a state to try to interest fear with that is outrageous and unconstitutional. we are glad this judge saw through all of that and this law is not going to be going into effect which is why the president was going to have to disclose five years of his tax returns. gregg: congratulations on your legal victory. i can sight as the golden gate bridge behind you. i used to live on the other side in sausalito. >> it's a beautiful place. gregg: breaking tonight. president trump is deploying troops to saudi arabia and the united arab emirates after oil
1:11 am
attacks on the saudi kingdom. general dunnford said the back up has not decide on specific units to send but says deployment will be moderate. president trump: these are the highest sanctions ever imposed on a country. we have never done to it this level. it's too bad what's happening to iran. it's going to hell, doing poorly. they are practically broke. they are broke. and they could soft problem very easily. all they have to do is stop with the terror. >> we'll have more on iran tonight with former state department advisor christian whiton. president trump coming out on top after a week filled with attacks from the radical dems and the left-wing media. president trump: our media has
1:12 am
become the laughingstock of the world. if you look swat they did to justice calved thank you and so many some other things last week. i think this is one of the worst weeks in the history of the fake news hide yeah. gregg: another of the dems' 2020 candidates calling it quits. fun fact: 1 in 4 of us millennials have debt we might die with. and most of that debt is actually from credit cards. it's just not right. but with sofi, you can get your credit cards right - by consolidating your credit card debt into one monthly payment. you can get your interest rate right - by locking in a fixed low rate today. and you can get your money right. with sofi. check your rate in 2 minutes or less. get a no-fee personal loan up to $100k. and i recently had hi, ia heart attack.
1:13 am
it changed my life. but i'm a survivor. after my heart attack, my doctor prescribed brilinta. it's for people who have been hospitalized for a heart attack. brilinta is taken with a low-dose aspirin. no more than 100 milligrams as it affects how well brilinta works. brilinta helps keep platelets from sticking together and forming a clot. in a clinical study, brilinta worked better than plavix. brilinta reduced the chance of having another heart attack... ...or dying from one. don't stop taking brilinta without talking to your doctor, since stopping it too soon increases your risk of clots in your stent, heart attack, stroke, and even death. brilinta may cause bruising or bleeding more easily, or serious, sometimes fatal bleeding. don't take brilinta if you have bleeding, like stomach ulcers, a history of bleeding in the brain, or severe liver problems. slow heart rhythm has been reported. tell your doctor about bleeding new or unexpected shortness of breath any planned surgery, and all medicines you take. if you recently had a heart attack, ask your doctor if brilinta is right for you. my heart is worth brilinta. if you can't afford your medication, astrazeneca may be able to help.

deblasio's departure. president trump: i see our part-time mayor will be going back to new york so they will be able to work harder. but he dropped out of the presidential race. too bad. he had tremendous potential. he only had one real asset. height. other than that he had nothing going. gregg: he's a tall man so he stood out. but that's the extent of it. the president weathering another week of harassment from the media and their friend. the dimms hauling his former campaign manager corey lewandowski before the house judiciary committee. jerry's committee, and new calls for impeachment is the daily mantra. rasmussen daily tracking poll

shows the president has -- has 52% support compared to president obama's 42% at this point in his presidency. let's talk about bill deblasio. one of the most of abysmal mayors in new york history. if you think i am making that up. here is the percentage of new york city people who supported him in his presidential bid. zero. zero supported him. he's got a 33% favor built rating. he didn't even crack 1% in the state of new york. >> i think the president was

right. he had nowhere to go but up. he had tremendous potential. now he will be going back to the city of new york. i feel bad for those who live there. you might be seeing the mayor more than the 7 hours he put in the month of july in city hall. there is no place more for him to go but up, i suppose. expectations -- >> the good news is he doesn't do anything. he sleeps in late. he goes to the gym, an doesn't go down to his office much. and i guess he thinks the city runs by itself. i want to switch gears to the economy. why is it that the media and democrats seem to be wishing for a recession that they talk about incessantly as imminent? it's almost as if they want a
1:21 am
recession that would harm 327 million americans. >> that's absolutely what they want and that's what the mainstream media wants. but that's not happening. bloomberg just had a poll come out where we blew past expectations of a number of economic indicators indicating that a recession is not imminent. these 2020 democrats don't have economic policies to run on to better the great economic growth and prosperity the president provided. this week alone we had industrial production numbers that defied expectations and they are they were the best this year. they came from the oil and gas and mining industry. we are becoming energy dominant, not energy dependent. wages are rising and this is all
1:22 am
because of the president's policy proposals. gregg: the president talks a lot good fake news, but it resonates with americans. if you look at the polling data they are at the bottom in terms of credibility and integrity. just in the last couple weeks we have seen msnbc have to apologize for a story they should never have reported. you have seen cnn get the kremlin spy story wrong. that was debunked. now you have got whistleblower -- i forgot about kavanaugh and the "new york times." now you have got whistle blow early that is not a whistle blower. someone of the things the president has done to great effect is expose the media for the liberal activists they are. they have become part of the resistance. they are completely unhinged. they tried to sell us for 2 1/2

years on the russia collusion hoax that never happened, never was, never existed. the "new york times" had to switch their narrative. they said they would have to switch the narrative from russia to racism. when that falls flat. let's go to russia 2.0 in this whistleblower case. they completely blight with kavanaugh this week fact they did not represent in the story that the accuser had no recollection of the incident happening and never spoke with them. these oh miss are glaring and damage together institution of what people of thought the gray lady was. gregg: i don't think the media will like chapter 6 in my new

1:30 am
nations. essentially these people cross through all salvador on its way to the united states. the united states will be able to send the them back to el salvador to await their asylum process. the use the is planning on building an asylum system in el salvador so when they pass through el salvador they can seek asylum there and not in the united states. gregg: the administration under president trump is talking about diverting a whole lot more money for building further extension of the wall. is that justified? >> of course it's definitely justified. you saw the number of apprehensions that we saw in may. 144,000 apprehensions on the border. those are just apprehensions. we are not counting those who got away and entered the country illegally. we need to continue building
1:31 am
that physical barrier. we saw president trump in san diego and we need to about build that wall and we hope congress would appropriate the funding. but if congress does doesn't their job, president trump will make sure we get funds from elsewhere. at the end of the day, border security is national security. gregg: elizabeth warren and joe biden and others. open borders within let's increase immigration. i was struck by the fact that that may not well resonate with hispanic americans and african-americans. a harvard-harris poll shows increasingly those groups are against what bind and warn and others are proposing. >> the hispanic communities has supported president trump on this one. we support legal immigration, not illegal. we want to make sure people come to this country but they do it the right way. we don't want people abusing our
1:32 am
immigration system. we have a lot of hispanics in this country that came to the united states the legal way. my parents were born in mexico and they did it the right way and they got permission to stay in the united states. so now they are proud naturalized citizens. gregg: i think warren and bind think this will help them with hispanic americans. another move by the trump administration is to end this absurd preposterous catch and release. here is your court date in four months. there you go. come back. and of course the vast majority of them go, oh, yeah, we'll come back and they never do. it's pretty abused, isn't? it. >> the catch and release policy implemented under the obama administration is the main
1:33 am
reason people are abusing our immigration system. but by ending catch and release. and those are the plans they are work on. we'll be able to stem that flow of illegal immigration. and that is the number one reason people were abusing the system. they were given a notice to appear with a date to be determined. and that's something that's very interesting. people were being given a court date. they were given an opportunity to state their case in immigration court. and they didn't respect the rule of law and they jumped their court hearings. >> they had to be saying these americans are so gullible and dumb. >> we would like to hear your thoughts on all of this. share your comments and follow love you on twitter.

ex-british spy christopher steele who was peddling his phoney dossier to substantiate the warrant for lying and spying. >> we have gotten new documents from the state department previously undisclosed, including classified material that christopher steele was sending to the state department under barack obama between 2014 and 2016. there were 2,000 reports on russia. so he was well positioned to go to the state department during the campaign with his dirty dossier targeting president trump because he had a longstanding relationship. he might as well have had a desk at the state department given the numerous documents he was

1:45 am
referral against the guy cnn hired, and he's on almost every day. today he's on talking about corruption. this guy is the symbol of corruption. isn't he? >> exactly. and there is this big problem at the fbi, and frankly the justice department. we had documents that included mccabe's misconduct showing there western 14 fbi agents and senior officials who improperly leaked classified or grand jury material. not one of them were prosecuted. and many of them got away with even a lighter punishment than the -- >> cnn hired him probably because a month before the mueller report came out. mccabe went on cnn and said i think the president of theouts may be a russian agent.

their economy is on the precipice. will this have the desired effect? >> i think it will cause tehran a lot of pain. these are sanctions on their central bank, making it difficult for any businesses or government to conduct business and get dollars, particularly across borders. there will be an increase in u.s. forces going to the persian gulf. but i think this is not the end of the story. i think the president doesn't want to do everything to saudi arabia and others. we are seeing a ramp up. gregg: the provocations from iran continue. here is a list. june 20. iran shoots down a u.s. drone. july 19, iran seizes a u.k. oil taker. august 31, iran seizes iraqi oil
