he said he would consider cooperating with inquiry if nancy pelosi calls for a full house vote. president trump: we'll if they give us our rights. reporter: president trump also responded to fox news reporting that when robert mueller met with him in the oval office in may of 2017, he was interviewing for the fbi job, contrary to what mueller told congress and speaking to rosenstein about taking the job as special counsel. president trump: robert mueller wanted the job to be the director. the other element of your question i never heard that until recently. reporter: fox news also asked president trump if he had spoken to bill barr at all about his investigation into the origins of the russia probe or john

durham's probe into that which has expanded because of wait haas found. the president said no and he's leaving all of that to bill barr. through. lou: joining us, former acting u.s. attorney general, matthew whitaker. let's start with the house under democratic leadership obviously, launching a partisan attack against the president in the guise of a quote end quote impeachment inquiry. the idea there wouldn't be republican representation, the opportunity for the president to be represented by counsel, for this to be a partisan assault on a president is unpress didn'ted. >> we would expect the house vote to be a partisan vote. this is again the legal

traditions of our country. the house is unwilling to make its members record their vote. that's an interesting issue in and of itself. they are unwilling to follow precedent from previous impeachment proceedings. frankly, this waits appears to be, which is a completely unfair and partial proceeding that will conclude with cherry picked facts that make the president look bad which are inconsistent with what happened. we have the evidence. we have seen the mueller report and the call transcript. it's obvious to me as a former prosecutor, and it's clear to the department of justice which declined these cases. this is a complete waste of time and there are so other things they could be working on. lou: some of these reporters in

the deep state forget the department of justice ruled there was nothing improper were that phone call whatsoever. yet they proceed. there is something definitely improper for most of americans interested in fair play whether they are a supporter of this president or not. on its face, the idea kit would be a whistlele blower in secret who happens to be a cia officer -- this an impossibility. the idea although we have the call transcript. we'll put a whistleblower on. offsite. obscure their voice answer essentially give adam schiff's version of the facts. his interpretation of the call. we should expect more of that. the american people, the ones i talk to in real america including places like my home state of iowa.

they know what the house should be focused on. it's something that would make a positive different for iowans. lou: they want to remove him from office and refuse to give him even the opportunity to serve the nation with a completed deal. it's a complete negotiated agreement that requires only the house to move for it to become law. this president is getting things done. lowest unemployment in 50 years. great economy. criminal justice reform was passed. this president is moving forward with his agenda in spite of what the house is doing. lou: the justice department in front of a federal judge seeking to block the house from getting grand jury testimony from the

mueller witch hunt. it's -- the judge making clear to the justice department attorneys that precedent is on the side here of releasing them because as she points out, impeachment per se is considered a judicial proceeding, but this is nothing like any proceeding before it trying an impeachment inquiry of a president. >> the law is clear, grand jury proceedings and transcripts and evidence collected as part of a grand jury can only be released as part of the judicial proceeding. there is no way under the law that staying in the house having voted on to start could be considered a judicial proceeding. this is something americans are frustrated with our courts and the system of justice. they can read the language of

the law and the way it's interpreted is completely different. lou: i think americans are not only frustrated -- and we are looking at a lot of polls here about their confidence in the president or the so-called impeachment inquiry. i think those polls are nonsense. this is a country that right now does not trust its judiciary system. it doesn't trust this legislative system as led by pelosi, schumer, and the bunch. this is a time of i think significantlsignificantly ebbin. lou: there is one dependable servants in washington, d.c. and

reemergence of isis. joining us, retired general jack keane. great to have you here. general, i know this is a tough issue for you and a lot of americans. it is for the president. the decision to pull our remaining thousand troops from syria. your thoughts tonight? >> well, first of all, the president gets a lot of credit in my book for accelerating the operations against isis and bringing that caliphate to an end as quickly as we possibly could. what's gotten us so rhode islanded up by the. we had in doing that one of the best situations we ever created because we had 60,000 syrians fighting against isis on the ground, and we had a couple thousand americans and brits and french advisors hots coordinated

for october fire and air support. they were in the fight. we were coordinating those support mechanisms and we won that fight. here we had 60,000 guys fating for their own homeland. but also fighting for u.s. national interest. in doing that the kurds lost 11,000 people of in that fight. and 20,000 wounded. so when erdogan called the president sunday and said i want to conduct this military operation and separate the kurds. it's not going fast enough in terms of the. right then and there we would have said, i understand your concern. there is a diplomatic solution to this separation. i don't want you to impose a

military one. i own the air space in eastern syria. i am not going to allow it to happen. he purged his generals. he has weak leaders around him. lou: he strengthened his hold on turkey. >> and he's overstating what the ypg would do to him inside syria. it's not that they don't support the pkk, they do. i think this could end it very quickly. there are still opportunities to stop it. lou: it's been five years. we have a military that is counseling this president every day. we have a state department. this is a president who pledged to move our troops home. this is a moment of decision.

he's made his choice. i personally think it's exactly no matter how difficult and wrenching it is, it's past time we pulled our troops out of there. if it's a diplomatic solution, then it's the stuff for dip maghts. it's extraordinary to me to their senator lindsey graham who one day sounds like he's on the president's side and the next sounds like he's leading the opposition. i can't make head nor tails of him. but he thought the solution in egypt, edfollowed the dicta of senator mccain and obama that the united states wanted the muslim brotherhood to be part of the new government el-sisi was forming. we are looking at a history of highly checkered foreign policy analysis from the united states senate. >> we didn't create radical

islam, skis * or 9/11. these guys declared war against us. they are dead serious about us. how can anybody not recall those barbaric videos of what isis was doing to innocent people. lou: do you think anyone doesn't remember? >> these guys are dead serious, lou. all we are saying -- we are not keeping tens of thousands of troops in syria. we are talking about keeping less than a thousand so the syrian democratic forces who fought isis will keep their foot on their throat and not let them emerge. we have less troops deployed overseas since any time prior to world war ii. this is a small commitment we are making for a huge payoff. lou: what is the payoff. >> protecting the american people. lou: do you believe that

doctrine is the reason this country has not been struck by al qaeda? >> absolutely. lou: because we kept troops in syria? >> no, because we kept a foot on al qaeda in pakistan. and we kept our presence there. and we run operations very maul operations, just a few hundred people into yemen, eastern africa, syria is a very small operation. for just a few thousand, we get a huge payoff. we are protecting america. lou: from afterway around the world. >> radical islam is in close to 40 countries, and we are only involved in five. lou: i think this is a time to reflect. we have had our military deployed for 20 years and longer if you consider the persian gulf

war in 1991. we have aircraft flying that are a generation two decade old. we can barely find parts for many of them. we have a shortage of pilots. we have the president talking eloquently when he came into office they didn't even have sufficient ammunition. this is a president rebuilding the military. i applaud this president and secretary pompeo because they are creating a modest foreign policy that i think should be replicated by our military as well. i think we should understand where that $7 trillion went, and the tens of thousands of lives that were lost, our soldiers, sailors, service members wounded. it's been an extraordinary cost to prevent tragedy at home.

but, my god, we have what, 17 intelligence agencies? we have paramilitary operations within a number of those? it's a very difficult choice to make, i recognize. but surely, surely, it's a time for to us consider. >> i think we have the priorities right. we are turning the military into the capabilities to deal with that threat so we avoid conflict with them. we are not going to avoid confrontation. but we can avoid conflict. and at the same time we have a thorny issue dealing with the radical islamists. they are dedicated to kill us. we are only focused on those inspired to conduct attacks on america. there are 35 other organizations, radical islamists that we are not doing a thing

about. lou: that's to me inexplicable that we are not doing something given the resources at our command. it's also inexplicable to me at least, that we would continue with policies that led to so much loss of life and so little, frankly. if you don't -- aren't one of those people who ascribes to the view this isn't the reason we haven't had a terrorist attack in the united states. the loss of lives. the wounding of our fighterring men and women. it's a difficult time to say to the military, it's time to understand. we have got to kill our enemies. and we must change the way we think about the cost in every sense of the world. this country, the cost not to

seek victory, and to a fine resolution of every conflict. victory. what we can claim now is victory over isis, over al qaeda to this point. we can claim -- i didn't say it was true. we could have claimed at one point victory over the taliban. what we are watching now is the inversion of everything that we intended. >> you are chasing a myth that we can have a conventional victory over these radical islamist organizations which are absolutely ideological driven organizations. the on way this end is when we protect ourselves against those who would threaten us. and we are doing that with a very modest investment, i would suggest. and do what we can to turn this ideology around. and that would take a generation. lou: but we already have bought

bargain, a small deal. >> president trump said he wants more than 50%. sometimes the chinese media says we want to meet america halfway. but the president says china has been taking advantage of the u.s. and they owe us more. lou: before the talks began this week, we learned they did not in any way want to change the structural makeup of our trade relationship or their economy to -- where has this hard line position on the part of the chinese come from? it's effectively saying to president trump, we'll steal from you as much as we want when we want, period.

>> i am sorry to say it looks like the chinese are looking at the impeachment issue as the weakening of president trump. saying this is a mistake. i was in beijing a week ago and they were making comments about as tough as trump is and they respect him in china. they think nancy pelosi is a factor in the china trade talks. in a way, the democrats are giving aid and comfort to the enemy. but that will hold the chinese back from making the kind of concessions president trump needs. he needs enforcement and technology issues to be clearly written out in a way china can't violate. i was disappointed to hear this from china when i was visiting there. i didn't think they would do it. but there is a new story out from the chinese side that they are going to leave a day early. that they have not succeeded in what they want to do. they want president trump to

lift the tariffs while they are physically here in washington. and he's not going to do that as i understand it. so they are going home a day early. but this impeachment really affected the chinese view of us. lou: i hope it's given an effective view of what the radical dimms are up to. and the focus should have been on the relationship between the democratic party and its collusion with china, along with wall street. >> i tried to bring up the topic in beijing. just tell me what happened in hunter biden. i have never seen them get so secretive in my life. they would discuss icbm warheads rather than talk about hunter bind. the chinese know they don't want

he says the reason is he's waiting for the i.g. report to come out. we are all waiting. and now i think it will be another few weeks. and i don't see the purpose in that because the i.g. can't do that much. it's durham who's really doing more because he has much more authority as a u.s. attorney. i don't understand it. but i would like lindsey to get all the republican senators on board signing a letter saying they aren't going to impeach and his biggest challenge will be mitt romney. lou: it would be dissuasion for even a saint, i think. joe, let's turn to john solomon. his reporting that in fact officials sopped a new investigation. even before the new president was elected. does that not in and of itself invalidate any claim by the

radical dimms in the house that there was anything improper about the president's call? as attested to by the department of justice itself. but there would be no claim any kind against this president based on that phone call if indeed their allegations were precede by an investigation. >> i don't think there is any doubt, nothing the president said on that phone call was improper. what the president said on that phone call was essential. he was exercising his authority under article two as the chief law enforcement officer of the united states, the chief diplomat of the united states. a new mutual assistance treaty between ukraine and the united states. the fact that they are looking

to see if it was mishandled on burisma, you are absolutely correct. >> the obama administration treated ukraine like a candy store. they went in and got whatever they wanted. victoria newland and george soros would go in and tell ukrainians who should be their prime minister, who they should indict, who they should investigate and who they should not investigate. one of them is any organization connected with george soros. so the obama administration does this kind of quid pro quo throughout the whole 8 years of their running ukraine. lou: it's stunning stuff. it seems like at every turn the

investigation, the probes, the charges against the president, all result in criminality or a lie on the part of the investigators, whether it's the fbi, the department of justice. whether it's robert mueller testifying before congress. there is nothing this that does not fall apart upon examination of this effort by these radical dimms. maybe i should just say dimms. there doesn't seem to be any divide at all on the political corruption they inspire and which they obviously host. >> the dems decided they can win by using lies to the american people with complicity of the major media and two newspapers, the "new york times" and the "washington post." some of the polling data

indicates -- they are succeeding. they are throwing so much mud consistently that it's having an effect on the body politic. and that's what the dems want. this is not about the rule of law. this is about regicide, stealing an election. lou: they have done it once. they did it in 2018. they knew the conclusion of the collusion charge before the election. that cot have been announced. but, no, it wasn't. in my judgment the effect was the theft of the 2018 election and control of the house of representatives. >> and bob mueller was completely complicit in it and he acted precisely that way to assist the democrats. >> if bill barr hadn't become attorney general that investigation would still be

material to two journalists. we are looking at a number of these prosecutions. it's a big deal in this administration weren't number of charges that have been brought on the basis of national security violations. it's one thing the political leaks. these are national security leaks. >> they are, they are confidential reports that could compromise our national security. we don't know exactly what they were because they are confidential. one that appear to the our editors is likely to be one of these examples, one of these reporters wrote a story that according to a defense analyst who had knowledge of the numbers about how much president trump's 4th of july parade would cost. the numbers are exagerated, $80 to $90 million. it led to a lot less money and

was the coolest july 4 in d.c. history. but that's an example of these reports that ties back to this reporter. the reporter was caught red-handed with the texts and accessing all these files. lou: to that point what happened? he's under arrest with two counts of leaking confidential information. each one of those counts could lead to 10 years in prison. he's 30 years old, i doubt he will face 20 years. it's a message to leakers. lou: leaking the cost of a parade expense estimate. the idea that reuters suddenly is polling a significant increase in the number of folks who believe that the democrats should be focusing on the big
