that neither heard, between the president and the ukrainian president zelensky and make much of it. schiff admitted his purpose is to keep president trump in the dark. a combination of a kangaroo court and star chamber, schiff is trying so hide the identity of the so-called whistleblower throughout. and now schiff added an entirely new element to the mysterious doings in washington, d.c. saying that whistleblower number one doesn't have to be questioned before the house at all. evidence aplenty he says in the transcript of the call between the president and zelensky. green lighting china's stall tactics, the business round table allowing xi to stall until the 2020 elections. china says they want another round of trade talks before they

sign any deal which supposedly was reached on phase one. president trump slapping back at turkey, demanding sanctions due to the turkish incursion into syria. the sanctions mean the president is fulfilling his pledge to keep our troops out of the fight. we turn to john roberts. reporter: president trump announced crippling sanctions on turkey. slamming president erdogan for endangering civilians and threatening peace and security and stability in the region. president trump is targeting the turkish economy announcing a return to 50% tariffs and stopping negotiations on a $100 billion trade deal. and he threatened government officials or anyone else for

human rights abuse or repatriating refugees with financial sanctions. while it is unusual to hit a nato ally with sanctions designed to bring the economy to it's ins. president erdogan is going well beyond the limited operation he outlined to president trump and members of congress. president trump is not backing off his plan to take u.s. forces out of syria, insisting they have been there too long, and it's not america's fight. he says anyone who wants to assist syria in protecting the kurds is good with me. but the turkish president is playing the nato card telling allies germany and the u.k. that turkey is at risk and nato needs

to stand with it. reporter: the president is not taking u.s. forces out of the neighborhood. he says they will be deployed elsewhere in the region to monitor the situation in turkey. he will leave a small contingent of forces in a base in southern turkey to keep an eye on isis. lou: the white house demanding that turkey stop its invasion of syria, begin an immediate ceasefire. vice president mike pence announcing he and national security advisor robert o'brien have been dispatched by the president to go to turkey to lead a delegation for immediate negotiations. >> president trump made it very clear that the united states will continue to take actions against turkey's economy until they bring the violence to an end. we want an immediate ceasefire and we want to begin

negotiations between turkey and syrian defense forces. lou: joining us tonight, retired army colonel douglas mcgregor. the president sending a delegation to turkey to get things straightened out. >> i think sending the delegation speaks specifically to the president's good idea. it will be a way of arctic laight our concerns about the fate of the people in the zone the turks have entered. i probably would not have urged sanctions at this point. but i think president trump ought to withdraw our forces from turkey. we ought to stop sharing intelligence with the turks. we should think about halting foreign military sales to the turks. but the idea of sanctions i think is preemptive and probably unnecessary. i think mr. eshed began will

listen -- mr. eshe mr. erdogan l listen. lou: he didn't listen sunday night when the president received after he shiewrnses the kurds would be safe from the turkish military. they have been laying waste in that region that is supposed to be a safe zone. and it's hardly that. >> i think the assertions that the turks are laying waste to the region is an exaggeration. i think the turkish military is doing what any military would do under the circumstances. they are dealing with an enemy that is doing everything they can to impede their advance. this is something that's been a long time coming. i think we could show more interest in the turkish military's score.

lou: banked on the other side of its border in syria, all these kurds, and frankly, the concern that they are alying with terrorist organizations within his own country. >> exactly. i would think americans who are watching what happens on our southern border would be more sensitive to that. lou: that's an interesting parallel. the issue for the president of course is to make certain that his demands are met and the safety of the kurds which he took into his calculus upon agreeing to permit turkey's incursion into syria, that's going to be the next difficult challenge. >> well of course the president also achieved something else. russians, syrians and iranians have all accepted the kurds back into the fold. he whose got them effectively containing the turks.

so we are out of it. he's right. we need to be out of it. lou: there is something else i would like to note. he has the iranians absolutely raging at him along with senator lindsey graham. so it's another win, if you will. colonel, your thoughts on where we are headed and what are likely next steps. >> i think this will die down over the next weeks. i don't see this exploding into a larger regional conflict at this point. i think the american people should look carefully at people like senator graham and realize these are fugitives from accountability. these are the same people who dragged us into the region. they are responsible for terrible things that happened in iraq. millions of displaced persons and hundreds of thousands dead. they are raising cain over what's happening in syria. they fail to understand that by

lou: three federal judges in three separate states have chosen to block a trump administration rule that disqualifies legal immigrants from obtaining permanent residency if they use public assistance program. the judges deemed the rule to be

unlawful at just about the same time. george daniels of the southern district of new york wrote it's a new agency policy of ex pull-shun it's repugnant to the american dream. he left out also the public welfare and social services. i don't know why he didn't include that in that ruling. all three ruling were issued friday. the rule is set to take effect tomorrow. isn't it great when the rule comes together with three district court judges at the same time. the mexican authorities stopped a caravan of 2,000 central american, caribbean and african-american immigrants were turned away after make it 24

memories of the news takeles. in 2019 when president trump was hitting mexico hard and threatening to impose tariffs and taking away foreign aid money from the northern triangle countries, he used tougher tactics than this press saysors, republican or democrat, and they worked. now zooms we have better cooperation with -- now we have better cooperation with mexico than i can remember. the mexican government is taking affirmative steps. we need them to keep doing it. but it's playing a big role in the driving down of numbers and it comes as president trump's plan in the beginning of 2019. >> i think his threat of tariffs on mexican products is when we saw a sea change.

>> it's important to think a different part of the world, about china. there the president has imposed the tariffs. it wasn't like some prior presidents who would draw red lines then back off of them. he has proven this is the sort of threat he will impose. that matters to the mexican government and it matters to the mexican people and they have become great partners. lou: interior enforcement is still an issue here and we don't see a lot of it is the problem i see. while we have seen all of the increase and after prehengses and a sizable improvement from the spring until now. interior enforcement, e verify. going after employers. it's not happening. just as those tariffs. he put them into effect against china. he was believable when he threatened mexico. there is no threat here.

corporate america is having its way doing just as it wishes. >> i will say the crisis on the border -- the crisis at the border has drawn i.c.e. agents down to deal with that. and a lot of what you would call interior enforcement is happening at the border were i.c.e. with expedited removal. what we call the emb program back to the northern triangle countries. a lot of this is happening at the border to avoid these people being released into the interior. we are keeping the problem from getting worse. we have seen -- you know the drop in numbers for may. but the biggest proportion of that drop is families. because of the remain in mexico program. those two elements have worked together to drive that most of logistically challenging aspect of the illegal immigration rush

on our southern border count most of. it does take agents from i.c.e. who might do other things. but you also saw and periodically you see some things that make the news in terms of their internal enforcement. but a lot of what they do is day to day. they go to work every day, they are doing removes every day, every week from the interior and not just the border. we don't drive a lot of news on that because the border is sucking up all the attention, it has not stopped happening, lou. lou: i take your point. but i can't think of any extensive raids on employers, any arrests of employers, or any penalty for employers hiring illegal immigrants. youfying we have in this -- you figure we have in this country 20 to 30 million -- 22 million according to that study. lou: as many as 30 it said as

well. and we arrested how many employers? >> as you know, there are some investigations that are still ongoing. but we have issued over a million removal orders that are being executed on, and we have the biggest back losing on our agency on asylum and the department of justice that they have had in a very * long time. congress is not giving us the tools to attack this problem. they don't want to, and long-term solution -- lou: they are trying to impeach our president. do you think they are going to decide there will be a handshake. >> things that matter to americans. we have to keep pointing out that they are failing to do their job there. at least nor graham before they went on -- senator graham before they went on summer break pushed an asylum solution effort and
