quarter, nasdaq up 19 and-a-half. ashley: take a look at what's been going on in asia. generally positive. the nikkei in japan is up a third of a percent. the cough kospi is up 8/10 of a percent. cheryl: a busy brexit week for the folks in london. the ftse is higher this friday. and the cac and dax are in the green as well. all right, president trump taking the stage in mississippi tonight, just a day after claiming that that vote to move forward with his impeachment inquiry was causing damage to the stock market. ashley: with more on this, here's griff jenkins. >> reporter: good morning, cheryl and ashley. i suspect the president will have much to say this evening in the wake of the democrats going on the record, approving the procedures to advance the impeachment process. the vote divided congress nearly straight down party lines. speaker pelosi presiding over it. >> it's about the truth.

it's about the constitution. we will do so in a way that brings people together, that is healing rather than divided. >> reporter: republicans put on a yesterday front, standing firmly behind president trump. not a single gop member backing the resolution. >> not only did every single republican reject the soviet style impeachment process, but we were even joined by democrats who couldn't stand it anymore. >> reporter: two democrats crossed the aisle to defy the party, jeff andrew and collin peterson, representing districts that trump won in 2016. after the vote, stephanie grisham issued this statement, quote, the president has done nothing wrong and the democrats he know it. nancy pelosi and the democrats unhinged obsession with this impeachment process does not hurt president trump. it hurts the american people. and the president in an interview with the washington intiner, where he -- examiner, where he blasted the vote, suggesting he might read the transcript of the ukraine call

in a live, televised chat, expect him to be on a tear in miss sip you by tonight, the president rallying ahead of a tough govern r nor' governor's . a half a dozen more will be summoned to the hill. cheryl, ashley. ashley: thank you very much. just a short time ago, congressman jeff van drew issued a statement, saying in part, without bipartisan support i believe this inquiry will further divide the country, tearing it apart at the seams, and will ultimately fail in the senate. cheryl: something that could move the markets today, the october jobs report. economists are looking for 89,000 jobs, that's down 47,000 from september's read of 136. now, a lot of this of course could be related to the strike at general motors, also production at boeing. the up employment rate expected to inch up to 3.6% from 3.5%, the he lowest in nearly 50

years. the sharp drop in hiring, many economists are talking about this, affected by the uaw strike, which is over and you had the boeing 737 max grounding. we'll have complete coverage and analysis of the october jobs report, "mornings with maria" the hour starts at easter 8:00 . eastern time today. china is expressing doubts there will be a long-term deal with the u.s. despite that, the white house remains optimistic. blake berman has more from the white house. >> reporter: the phone calls continued between u.s. and china trade team members at the a deputy level and today they're expected to resume at a more senior levels as well. but there is still a question as to when and where a phase one trade agreement could potentially be signed. president trump acknowledging that open-ended question, tweeting out on thursday, quote, china and the usa are working on selecting a new site for signing of phase one of trade agreement,

after apac in chile was canceled due to unrelated circumstances. the new location will be announced soon. president xi and president trump will do the signing. according to multiple administration officials, they have not heard of where the meeting could take place, he though i'm told the mid-november time frame to have phase one put on paper is still on track. the white house doesn't appear to be too concern with the unexpected change in plans. >> and while apartl apac was cd yesterday, it hasn't affected or conversations at all. larry kudlow and i spoke. he told me the talks are going very smoothly. >> reporter: a spokesperson for china's commerce ministry said work is progressing smoothly, adding the two sides will continue to promote consultations and other work as originally planned. the market also took notice of a headline in bloomburg on thursday. that story cited chinese officials saying they are

concerned about the possibility of being able to strike a complete comprehensive trade deal. back to you in new york. ashley: blake, thank you very much. well, president trump is making it official. he's changing his permanent residence from the trump tower in new york to his mar-a-lago estate in florida. trump tweeting he despite the fact that i make millions of dollars in new york city, i pay that is, millions of dollars in taxes each year, i've been treated badly by the political leaders of the city and state. few have been treated worse. but new york city mayor bill de blasio and new york governor andrew cuomo, both democrats of course, they say they're not going to miss him. de blasio tweeting don't let the door hit you on the way out or whatever, pretty funny and governor cuomo saying this, good riddance, it's not like the real donald trump paid taxes here anyway. he's all yours, florida. cheryl: mark zuckerberg

fighting back after west wing and the social he network writer, aaron sorkin, wrote a scathing editor call in the new york times regarding facebook's stance on political speech in which he calls their policy dangerous. but the normally quiet ceo decided to turn the tables. he used sorekins' own words against him, using this classic scene from american president. >> america isn't easy. america is advanced citizenship. you've got to want it bad because it's going to be put up a fight. it's going to say you want free speech? let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who is standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. you want to claim this happened's the land of the free? then the symbol of your country cannots just be a flag, it those

ashley: the october jobs report front and center for investors today. the economy expected to have created only 89,000 jobs last month. but there is an as tea an astero this, likely weighed down by the strike at general motors. will the report spook the markets or have the markets taken that into account. chris mackie, investment

strategist joins us now. chris, let's start with the jobs report. we know that the gm strike could shave 50,000 or more off of this number, if it does come in around that or even under 89,000, what does the market do? >> well, good morning. it's great to be with you and your viewers. you know, you hit the nail on the head. markets understand that this number is most likely going to be impacted by the gm numbers l. so they're going to grade it on a curve. so if it's lower than they might hope for, they understand the gm impact. the important thing is to look at not only this jobs report, but the next month jobs report, look at those two in conjunction, because you should get a bounceback from that. the key thing to keep an eye on is whether or not the pullback in business investment is expanding into a pullback in hiring. and that's critical, because we're already seeing consumer spending start to moderate and consumer spending is the single

nongovernmental source of economic growth at this point. so we need the jobs to continue to continue supporting the consumer, because that's the key. ashley: of course, you kind of touched on this with the ism manufacturing number today could also be big if again it's in contraction in october, that would be the third month in a row. is that kind of a more of a warning sign for this economy than anything else? >> well, it's certainly an additional piece of data. what you need to do is you need to look at all the pieces of data, not any one on its own and look at the trend. that's the key. do we see the ongoing as you mentioned if that was the third month in a h a row, so that's te key. ashley: we want to he get your reaction if we can with a war of words between leon cooperman and senator elizabeth warren over her wealth tax proposal. mr. p cooperman in a letter obtained by another network responded to a tweet by warren, saying he should pitch in a bit

more to allow other people to have a shot at achieving the american dream l. cooperman writing this, however much it resonates with your base, thevill the phi vilificate rich is misleading. i think mr. cooperman has a point here. the rich pay a tremendous amount of tax to keep this country moving along and all the social programs. >> you know what's really interesting, and i haven't read the letter, but what's really interesting is that if you pars through the back and forth, the common element between the two othem,they're both talking about opportunity. mr. cooperman was talking about the opportunity he was given, including through public education. senator was talking about expanding opportunity. what would benefit the country both is if they came together

and talked about how to best expand the opportunity. it's about job creation. opportunity, expanding that is ensuring the next thomas edison and steve jobs has that stunt so we can get -- opportunity so we can get greater job growth. ashley: if you do it on the back of the rich, they'll go somewhere else. that's the big concern. thank you for joining us today. >> great being with you. cheryl: a top associate of the united auto workers, gary jones, has been charged with conspiracy to embezzle union funds and conspiracy to h defraud the unid states. uaw released a statement, saying we take any allegation or claim about the misuse of union resources very seriously. the uaw is grounded in the principle of putting our members first and that belief has never waiverred. we remain focused on finalizing

to move elsewhere and in order to -- if they couldn't sell their home, they had to rent them. the company evolved towards property management and helping military families get their homes rented so they weren't losing money when moving to a new station. that's how the company evolved. cheryl: it's hover girl. my apologies. there was a typo in front of me. i love the concept of what you're doing. what's so interesting about this, the two founders being military themselves, they realize it's so tough and stressful when you get the call you have to move from florida to texas. what about when the market is down, that must be the real challenging part for these families. >> definitely. a lot of people don't know, there's over 1.3 million active duty service members in the world, 70% of those live in private sector housing. although there are base housing opportunities for some military families, wait lists can be upwards of three years, 30

months long and so that's the at of time that a family is stationed somewhere. it's really hard to sometimes pinpoint. one of the reasons that a lot of military families l actually buy here in florida is because for what they receive for their housing allowance, it's actually -- they can afford a home more so than rent a home. they can afford to purchase a better home than they would be able to actually rent something. cheryl: that's really interesting. also too, where you're at in florida, you've got a huge amount of not just active military duty folks and their families, but you've got a lot that are h retired, that are transitioning. you run the gamut. what's the best add you vice yod give to these folks that need to move quickly. >> we have over 75,000 active duty members here in the northeast florida area. we're the third largest military presence with all of our bases that we have here. my biggest advice would be to find a realtor, reach out to an

agent and hover girl properties which by the way it was started with the name because the wive that started were helo pilot waves, that's where the name came from. my biggest advice would be to find a realtor. i'm a military relocation professional. i've gone through training. i'm also a spouse. i have that backing behind me. i've moved eight tiles in five years. so -- times in five years. so i understand what the families are going through. but definitely find a realtor that aligns themselves with you and we can actually help you get connected with other affiliates that have similar interests as us and other military spouses located in other yeahs. if you're buying in california or virginia or wherever you may be going, really find someone who can understand our lifestyle because it's definitely not a normal one. cheryl: allison chance, loved having you on this morning, great story. please come back. please come back. we would love to have you on the show again. >> thank you so much, cheryl.

cheryl: impeachment proceedings are moving forward after the house of representatives voted to move forward to the public phase of the inquiry. jeff van drew and minnesota representative collin peterson are both in vulnerable districts and they said they oppose the measure. as the inquiry move forward, will more vulnerable democrats oppose the impeachment process. let's bring in david bruno and robin bu byro and ted harvey. robin, first to you, what do you make to the fact that you have two democrats in vulnerable districts vote no yesterday. >> it's tough. i mean, if you're in a vulnerable district, i

understand. politics come into play here. we expect that they're going to do their job and uphold the constitution, their constitutional duty, but if they're on the line, i get it. and it's looking rough in some of these districts, cheryl. cheryl: ted, one of the things that's interesting on the republican side of this is that since the impeachment inquiry has begun, th a super pac that represents the trump campaign has raised over $1 million. this seems to energize republicans who support the president. >> my pac has exploded because of this. the american people support the president on this issue. the reason why is because this is nothing more than a political hit job and the american people know that. they've never come forward with an actual crime that the president has committed and that's why you see democrats not supporting the impeachment in congress and you're seeing every republican supporting the president in congress. because the democrats have provided nothing to the american

people. in my opinion this is nothing more than a distraction from the real criminal vision that's going on with barr and durham and when those impeachment or indictments start coming out, that's when things are going to get interesting. cheryl: what do you make of that, david? >> i think that -- i don't know. this resolution, i have some problems with. i do. i have a problem with the fact that schiff can reject the minority's request for subpoenas of. and then if he rejects it, it goes to the committee which they have -- the dems have a majority, 13-9. in actuality, while these are going to be public and it gives the minority an opportunity to subpoena, really schiff and the democrats control whether or not the republicans are going to be able to get all of of the witnesses before. cheryl: david, real quick, from a legal perspective, should any of these. >>witnesses be worried.they've e closed door testimony.

now they're going to go into public space. is there legal jeopardy from any of these witnesses and would that stop them from being more honest in what's going to be televised hearings. >> it depends on the witness and what their pars participati. as a lawyer, would i talk to the witnesses about whether or not any privileges exist, for example, executive privilege, attorney/client privilege and the fifth amendment right to remain silent. it depends on the person. cheryl: let's move to the political side of this. robin, one of the things we saw yesterday was jo joe manchin wan with neil cavuto and if he said if bernie sanders was the candidate, instead of donald trump, he would not vote for bernie sanders. that hurts. >> that does hurt. i've said similar things. bernie pledged he would not go back to being an independent after 2016 and he did. and he broke his promise. we haven't forgotten. my party is stubborn.

ashley: this is a wildfire alert. you are taking a live look at a brand-new fire, can you believe it sparked overnight, take my word for it, north of los angeles. this as we learn a car chase sparked as massive fire in nearby san bernardino. cheryl: that's where we find our he very own ray bogen. are firefighters making any progress? >> reporter: good morning. the firefighters have made a lot of progress, both here in san bernardino and up north as they've been fighting the gety fire, the easy fire and a now just starting last night at about 6:30 p.m. local time, the maria fire which very quickly burned 8300 acres and is 0% contained. 7500 residents have been evacuated and firefighters are battling santa ana winds and single digit humidity. the good news is, firefighters believe this fire is going to run out of fuel and have a maximum footprint of 12,000 acres. they also say that santa ana

winds fueling it will subside by midday. >> right now, the fire is still north of 118 or la avenue. that is our goal and intention is to keep it there. we are actively engaged in structure protection as well as protecting the agricultural assets with the avocado and citrus o orchards that have significant values too. >> reporter: firefighters are using four helicopters but had to stop flying because someone was using a drone to take pictures. >> this created quite a dangerous situation. it's not only illegal but it hampers our fire fighting efforts. please, anyone in the area with a desire to do such a thing, refrain from doing so. let us get our airborne assets in. >> reporter: in sonoma county the kincaid fire has burned 77,000 achesers, it's now at 65% containment. cheryl: all right, ray, looks like we've lost our feed to our

reporter, ray bogen. he was wrapping you. just a terrible situation. ashley: maybe a little help from mother nature today. we hope. cheryl: take a look at this, because those wildfires continue to ravage of course california, but here's a heart-warming story in all of this. wranglers were trying to rescue horseshorses from an a approacg fire. one brave horse runs back towards the flames to save another horse and a small pony. the video went viral. ashley: remarkable video. qantas airways grounding three boeing 737s. cheryl: not the max, though, right, tracee. tracee: the airline made the decision over hairline cracks found in wing structures. the airline has been inspecting its aircraft following calls from the faa for all airlines to check boeing 737 ng planes that completed more than 30,000
