>> now this will continue on a weekly basis until the governor satisfied that i got to speak to a homeless man who said they are going to work. listen. >> they are not going to clean this up. as long as their people under this bridge people are going to be giving us. it's just that easy. >> meantime the democrat mayor steve adler is facing a lot of pressure for a recall. there is a petition that is making the rounds right now on line. back to you. david: ayesha thank you. las vegas is set to vote the other new ordinance to criminalize marijuana tomorrow and when you look at the problems in austin san francisco l.a. new york is tough love or the softer approach the best way to handle the homeless problem? >> this may be the improper review but i deftly think it's tough love in for my experiences in new york city where you walk around and see homeless people sleeping on the train sleeping on the streets.
5:35 pm
sends a van a lot of these people are mentally ill and quite frankly when i'm walking around and scare for several weeks ago i was attacked by a homeless person. does it really make it better when you allow them to be on the streets in cities? municipalities have to take out a way to get people help and protect the citizens that are functioning within society. you cannot put them in harm's way. there's a responsibility. >> we have not found that with the right answer is. this homelessness in the big city seattle l.a. all over there's no real answer. there's not enough government housing available to put the homeless somewhere prepares not a good answer. i know we think we can all of a sudden put these people somewhere. there's nowhere and people keep growing in numbers. >> but the street is not the place. >> this is the typical response to the homelessness problem. we know how to deal with homelessness and get people off the street corners and by the way i'm very much in favor of providing shelter and the answer
5:36 pm
is clear these areas out that our are public spaces so they are not ringing cities like san francisco but find compassionate shelters that people can come. >> those places are all ching out of the seams. >> you want to be tough on the symptoms but then you want to be soft on the solution because it's a matter of dignity. the challenge to homelessness is there so whole slew of reasons that people are homeless. they are struggling moms who maybe lost her job and needs a little bit of help are there people who are mentally ill and there are some people that are in the system and you have to address each of them. >> we have done it here in new york. we had a terrible homeless problem in the 70s and 80s and we have giuliani command with this tough love. sad it's not at all sympathetic to people to let them sleep on the streets. you have to intervene.
5:37 pm
intervention you do with the a family member in one of the homeless on the streets? you cleaned up new york and it became safer more prosperous and cleaner. it was better for the buddy sully is a formula that works. >> it the only issue david is why isn't the governor during this? this is really an issue for the people of boston and if they elected this bozo who wants to allow people to sleep anywhere on the streets and and so on there's a municipal problem and municipalities have to come together and figure out how to deal with it. >> you can compare what giuliani did to today. the population has grown dramatically. david: not really. >> robert you were here. was an amazing turnaround. what happened in the times square district. an extraordinary effort was done. before we had to break with you is coming up on evening at it

diddy a new warning about a new threat to your alexa google home or even your eye iphone. a 14-dollar laser pointer is all a hacker needs to take control over these devices and open your garage shop on line using your cant even starting your car. one study even showed a laser could hack a google home from 350 feet away. because we are invested in you and in your security with we brought in our expert in fox's headlines 24/7 anchor brett larson. first of all how does this work like. >> it's actually kind of interesting. we know how waves move air along

and that's our ears work and that's how speakers work and that's how microphones work on the opposite end. the inside of the microphone that i'm wearing right now is shaking around in the air from my voice hits it and that's how you hear me at home. what these researchers were able to do is with a standard off-the-shelf 15-dollar laser pointer plug it into computer and they were able to synthesize audio with light and hit the microphone with it and trick the microphone into thinking it's hearing actual sound. it's kind of a horrifying concept when you really put your mind to it. i was reading stories about their military applications for something like this in terms of crowd control where they can hit you with a laser and it makes a flag in front of her head and sound starts coming out of it. it's a natural thing but the concern here is laser pointers can go hundreds of feet and if you've got this thing sitting on your entertainment center or

near a window somebody could potentially access it within an expensive device. >> bread is carol ross. pretty sure the robots are going to kill us. soon and none of this as a surprise to me. i don't know what anybody has one of these things in her home. into the day the day the people who want to hack these are always going to be one step ahead of whoever is creating fees. shouldn't people just not have these in their house? how hard is it to turn on your light and turn on the radio? we have gotten too lazy here. >> i don't know how hard it is to turn on the lights. i've had alexa do it are scary. i'm joking but you are right. a lot of times with technology we run full speed ahead because it's so convenient. does this cool thing and we can leave it in our kitchen and say how many tablespoons or in a cup of butter or however you want to ask your device to do stuff for you.
5:45 pm
as more of this stuff becomes interconnected what we forget about is that interconnectedness is connected out to the world. >> brett i totally hear you and there are certain aspects that are like oh that's cool for second but then i don't want it to my house. not only do i want the guy with a laser laser pointer giving it but do i want google amazon and apple listening to me when i'm home having a conversation. i have triggered alexa without talking to her. that scares me because she's angry at you jackie. >> my dogs name is dexter so you can imagine alexa the device occasionally answers like i don't understand what you mean, treat and these sorts of things happen. a lot of times we hear this stuff and it's very alarming. what is great about us sitting here talking about this and these people carrying out these experiments is now that information goes back to apple
5:46 pm
and google and amazon and they can say all right hold on a second. that's creepy. we have to figure a way to make sure that doesn't happen again. a lot of times the hackers are a step ahead of us but they are also making sure this doesn't become problematic. there will always be ne'er-do-wells trying to do something. >> i'm an economist so i am pro laser pointer. >> they love to use those pointers and spreadsheets. david: is there some attempt to find a way of changing? usada life imitates sound. are they going to fundamentally try to change that formula or are we stuck with that? >> this is really interesting because is this a question of physics? we been using fiber optics for decades now in fiber optics basically blinking laser lights in a glass tube. i'm very oversimplifying it for people watching at home saying that's not how it works.
5:47 pm
it's blinking laser lights and glass so fundamentally i think we all have to collectively help somehow figure out okay we have got to contain these things. maybe put a physical off switch on the front of it or put a toaster hood over it. >> don't let them in your house. >> carol has the easy solution. just don't buy them. thank you brett nice to see you. are you tired of political jokes? one canadian has come up with a way for you to enjoy standup without the political banter. the details coming up. plus zero minimums to open a brokerage account. with value like this, there are zero reasons to invest anywhere else. fidelity. wow! giving one. how did you guys...? >>don't ask. the lexus december to rembember sales event get 0 percent apr for 60 months
