trish: now which go to more of my exclusive interview with advisor to president ivanka trump. she is speaking out tonight for the first time on impeachment inquiry that is consuming washington, d.c. but first, she tells me what motivates her, to show up, for the american people day after day despite all the political backlash to her, to her kids, to her entire family. you got a wonderful family. you, you don't need to do this, and you, there is some sharp elbows out there. they're pointed at you, your family, your father. even your son had picture on instagram you posted of him dressed in a "star wars" costume that created an uproar, which struck me incredibly unfair and hard. i thought, here you are, trying to do some good out there. you don't have to.
8:47 pm
why do you do it? >> it is the the the greatest pe in the world to give back to a country that has given so much to me and my family. so -- trish: even when people say mean things, they attack you, attack your family? >> there is a lot of love there too. that can't be what motivates you. what motivates you is the path. if you're in it for another reason, it's not sustainable, because there is a lot of noise. trish: on both sides. >> there is a lot of love. there is a lot of anger. it has to be about the impact. i come into the office every day, incredibly grateful for the opportunity to fight for the people of this country and, i believe that my track record and i know that the president's track record will show we've done just that. trish: is it ever hard to stay focused at a time like this? >> no. i always believed that there are
8:48 pm
certain things that are completely outside of your control. to be successful you just have to focus on what's before you and drive hard every single day to make an impact. your time and service are, our time here at the white house is finite. it is sand through an hourglass and you have to remember that the amount of time you have to make the greatest possible impact is, is short. in the scheme of life. so i'm just really, really focused on delivering and, i'm really proud of what we're doing. i mean the fact we've gone over 350 companies to sign our pledge to invest in 14 million job training opportunities for american students and workers is, unbelievable. trish: 14 million. that's a huge number. break it down to individual opportunities, right?
8:49 pm
>> sure. trish: we were talking with students yesterday, through a direct result of the pledge. hearing individual stories. that is what grounds you is actually important and what matters. that is what motivates you every single day to keep going. trish: it is impressive. it is impressive what you're doing. it is impressive you stay grounded in light of everything. what do you think of what's going on right now with the democrats attempts to impeach your dad? >> i think everything's a question of priorities. we have our priorities in the white house. we're fighting every day for the american worker. we're fighting every day to improve the quality of life for every single person in this country. and we're delivering. in that fight and on that promise. that is our priority. usmca, let's get it passed congress. let's lean into the areas that people want us to be delivering on. that there is opportunity for
8:50 pm
bipartisan wins. trish: so -- there is opportunity for bipartisan wins? when you have got adam schiff doing what he has done, you've got nancy pelosi launching impeachment inquiry before even taking a vote, i just wonder if that starts to break undo the system at all? because you do want bipartisanship. of course when it comes to jobs and economy, that should be a no-brainer but, it is -- >> every single day we deliver. the president signed an historic trade deal which happened one week ago. we just announced 250,000 new training opportunities for american workers yesterday. we will continue to work. we will continue to deliver. the ball is in congress' court. will you approve usmca, arguably the greatest trade deal in american history. let's see. trish: if they don't approve, what would that be? >> it would be a very, very unfortunate thing for a lot of americans. we know what that will do in
8:51 pm
terms of opportunity for our farmers, for our ranchers, for communities across this nation, for manufacturing, for gdp growth, for everyone. so the ball is in congress' court. let's get it done. trish: yeah. what about, when you talk to your father, what is your sense of where his focus is? >> we need to get these deals done. trish: or oh, my gosh, i can't believe what the democrats are doing now? i look at it, like myself, i have a hard time because the stress i would think of dealing with the nonsense would be pretty challenging but to see this sort of -- >> he probably experienced more incoming than any person in the history of the world but -- trish: he is into it? >> i think my father has definitely grown used to this. this has been true basically since day one, certainly since the election. so we're focused on delivering and fulfilling promises made to
8:52 pm
the american people. that's every day what we're focused on. trish: like lowest unemployment rate in 50 years? >> like the lowest unemployment rate in 50 years. like the lowest unemployment rate across almost every demographic you can imagine. trish: the lowest unemployment rate for disabled americans, everyone is having a greater opportunity and prosperity based on the policies of this administration. and we're so proud of that fact. and we're involved and encouraged by it, more focused and determined than ever. trish: you are doing a lot of good. what do you do in another couple years? if this administration doesn't see another term, if it does see another term, how are you thinking what you do next for ivanka? >> my family drives me in all of my decisions. so it's so important to me that my children are happy. they made a real sacrifice.
8:53 pm
it is very hard to have two parents working in the west wing. i will very much take a cue from my children in terms of what they need from me at any given moment. trish: is it hard when you travel? >> it is incredible hard. but it as always has been hard. i always worked. always has the balance and a experience every working parent has. to a greater or lesser degree we're fighting every single day for working families in this country. we're delivering "harry potter and the cursed child" tax credit, rye fundability. increasing access for high quality child care in every way. we realize how challenging it is to balance working demands of working families. i have a lot of structure and me and support than a lot of families do. i don't think it is necessarily harder for me. it is just different. i'm fighting every day for them and people less fortunate than
8:54 pm
me, with less resources than me. but i will very much take a cue from, from my kids in terms of what's right for our family at any given moment. to be honest -- trish: have you found your calling though? you're doing work that you're very passionate about. i have known you for a while and have certainly followed you and seeing this commitment to workers, that i think you sort of always have. i look what you're doing right now. you seem very happy in this. which brings me back to the elephant in the room on the impeachment front. how could you not be? >> when you go out in the country and i hear people whose lives are better, their families lives are better, their communities are thriving and it all relates back to the policies in just 2 1/2 years put in place by this administration. it's incredibly rewarding but i was happy before. i had an amazing life in new york city. i built big businesses. they were very successful.
8:55 pm
and, i think you need the opportunity to do this and -- trish: it's great, right? but at the same time, you have got a political system that is trying to enforce some kind of a takedown ever the president of the united states who happens to be your father who happens to have your family name. i know if it were my father i would just be angry, i would be defensive, it would be hard for me to keep doing the work that you're doing. i admire you for that but, you know, this is your family. this is your family name. do you ever say how did we get into this? >> this focuses all of us. we want to continue to fight and win for the american people. nothing is going to distract us. there is too much at stake. so maybe it's maybe it's genetic thing. trumps are fighters. it is motivating, right? we'll keep going and we'll keep
