you surprised he has to have a case that it isn't self-effort and obvious to the entire country that he was defending americans and american interests? >> i think it is straightforward and obvious to most people in america what took place here. the justification for soleimani. i think most people in america take our government officials at face value. it was multiple attacks on multiple targets. something had to be done. not to do something would be abdicating your duty to protect american citizens, in this case american diplomats and american soldiers. the gang of 8 and the intel committees of both houses were briefed on the classified information. i will say this. that the information that we had on soleimani planning, coordinating and directing these

multiple attacks in different countries was so sensitive it reveals part of the source of the information. and that is why our government officials are being so guard. but despite that, days after the attack they did bring members of congress in and give them a full top secret briefing. not the whole congress, not the whole senate. i think it's appropriate what they have done. lou: i think our audience is keenly aware of those who are among the gang of 8. but amongst them are some of the people who are trying to overthrow the president who scurrilously lied about the evidence against the president and whose partisan interests are clearly so -- so kinetic that

the president would be understandable to not trust them in the area of national security. >> i'm going to leave that to your judgment. you pay closer attention to that and i don't. i do say this. when you get briefed on something as sensitive that they were briefed on where people's lives were at stake. i would hope everybody would act responsibly with that information and not disclose it. lou: let's turn to russia, another incident where a ship in the north arabia sea, a spy ship again basically playing chicken with the faragut. what's going on and why the test? >> these things are largely symbolic. i think putin and his top

commanders are involved in all of it when he does it with airplanes or does it with ships and tries to penetrate air space. it's to remind everybody that russia is there. he knows the media will pick up on it. while it's potentially dangerous if somebody makes a mistake at that close range. the way ships kim -- ships kill each other today is miles away with missiles. i don't think we should feed putin's ego. lou: much attention is being paid to his observation in the black sea of new weaponry including so it is claimed by the russian government, a hypersonic weapon. your thoughts on the russian development of those hypersonic

weapons already apparently produced of the chinese and the united states. apparently we are still lagging a year atwo behind them. >> if you take russia and take their service, air, land and sea, none of them are a match to the united states. putin not having a defense budget. he spends his money very carefully. he developed special weaponry that makes -- he's focused on one target and that's the united states. and hypersonic weapons and missile defense systems and other specialized capabilities he invested significantly in. and they have great scientists and engineers. they can get out there on the technological ends. we have great concerns about his development of those weapons and the chinese because we don't have anything to defend against

them. that's not classified. that's well known. we are moving quickly to develop that. that's why space is very important. these weapons will spend most of their times in space. and we have to maintain the advantages we have in space. lou: general jack keane, always great to talk to you. secretary of state confirming the united states believes iran is responsible for the down of the ukrainian passenger jetliner. iran continues to deny they shots down the aircraft with a surface-to-air missile. they are inviting boeing representatives and other countries including canada to join in the investigation. much of the wreckage, however, we are told has been removed from the crash site by iranian officials.

she finally caved after being dismissive yesterday saying she won't do anything until she decides. your thoughts? >> this must be the most embarrassing day perhaps of nancy pelosi's career. it was the highlight of her career. her ahab-like pursuit of the *. over the course of this process she has made a parody of the house and the impeachment process. she lost a member of her caucus to the republican party. she lost a bunch of members on the vote of impeachment. her top lieutenants were openly talking about what a terrible strategy it was her sitting around on the articles of impeachment. she was forced to release them and got nothing in return.
