but first this upcoming week, president trump is expected to sign the usmc a deal in to law. i sat down for a one-on-one interview with the president here at the world economic forum here in davos. we spoke about everything from trade to task us to that impeachment trial the center. take a listen. >> we've done a lot of things, without a lot more than anybody in three years with regulations and tax cuts, we rebuilt the military three and half trillion dollars on the military, but we have a military like we've never had before. were going to do world-class tax cut, very big one. we're going to do that but we have to win the house. we cannot we will win. the whole hoax, the whole impeachment hoax, it really helps us in terms of the house. it's. maria: is that permanent template tax-cut? >> i'm gonna make that permanent for the middle class. so we will be doing that. we'll be announcing it over

the next 90 days. that's to me very important. we have great healthcare initiatives coming up. we have done well with healthcare anywhere part got rid of the individual mandate and that was a big thing with obamacare but that was a thing people couldn't do they couldn't afford if they didn't want it. they forced a pin number and then did not get rid of healthcare. so we've done really well with that with healthcare and it's going to be fantastic. maria: what about in terms of your trades initiatives you met with the president what you want europe to do by more agriculture to have you hold back on additional tariffs? >> we have made some great trade deals the china deal is a great trade deal in organist start phase soon really soon. i left 25% tariffs on because it's good to negotiate for phased troop. they want to start those negotiations right away and i did too. usmc a, greatly made that

$40 billion deal japan who also said we won't do the tariffs but japan has a tremendous buy and now. but we find, i find it in the european union, is tougher to deal with than anybody. they have taken advantage of our country for many, many years. it was actually formed for the purpose of taking advantage of the united states if you really think about it. but they are very, very tough to deal with. but for me they are very easy to deal with an eye told them i met with the new head who is very nice, and i dealt with jean-claude for a long time. i did not want to beat china and europe at the same time i said let me finish china first and frankly mexico and canada as soon as we did that i will do europe. they have been very difficult to deal with but ultimately it will be very easy because if we can't make a deal i will have to put a 25% 20 or 25% on the cars and i'm sure they will make a deal. they have to do it they have

no choice. they really have no choice. and i say this not as a wise guy or anything they treated us very badly. we lost a hundred $50 billion over a period of many years. we have left a hundred and $50 billion in deficits. it's the right thing to do and they have to do it. and i did tell her, i know were going to make a deal, we are gonna have to tariff your cars and other things coming into the united states. and they want to have like an emergency meeting, and we will make a deal. without that zero chance, just you understand zero.

action. so it could happen, i'm not a baby i understand china has a reputation for being cute. but i have a great relationship with president xi jinping and i don't think it's gonna happen. we've already seen a difference in the fentanyl. it's no it's good they're putting penalties on people that deal with fentanyl and it's having a big impact. if this happens, what you're saying could happen of course it could happen, we can terminate or we can put tremendous tariffs on. maria: what about investing in chinese companies. there's a proposal for the thrift fund they went 10% of the $50 billion to mimic the index the morgan stanley index for their chinese companies and editor sanction. some are make an weapon lay for the chinese government. to be when our military to be investing in chinese companies

taken down in the investigation he's looking at brennan and other obama officials. how far up the line you think this went that they framed you, try to target your campaign during the election? >> i think it went clear to the top. i think what they did is so illegal like in history there's never been anything like this. they tried to defeat me before i got elected. and then the insurance policy kicked in. your member the framers insurance policy, if he wins we will go get him here. and that happens. that happens. there has never been a thing like this. if this were reversed and this was obama, president obama that happened to. people would be in jail right now for 50 year terms and 100 year terms. or who knows. but if this were president obama instead of president trump, if this were the other side, people would've long ago been in jail. i will tell you, we have a

maria: welcome back so imagine this a college degree, no longer a requirement to begin a career in the technology industry. and that's just the beginning of the good news for america's workforce. i spoke to ivanka trump and ginni rometty an exclusive interview about their pledge to the american worker. >> something as president is so energized by because his policies d regulation, tax reform, energy animation, trade renegotiation have created this a massive room.

and every population is experiencing record low unemployment rates rates we want to make sure in this climate employers that are already seeking to get creative about how they onboard workforce, is looking to all corners of the population and pulling people into the workforce giving them the skills that they need to be successful. so it's been exciting, the pledged america's to america's workers we have over 400 companies. ginni's being one of them is signed on to the pledge committing to new jobs and still training opportunities for almost 15 million americans. maria: and i know soleimani you have been working for a while and grammar schools, opening up the opportunities for young people. this creates a whole another way for them to get the skills they need to work at ibm. >> yes this is something you and i have talked about it i'm passionate about. ivanka has amplified and accelerated these efforts.

because as an employer, i look at it from two different perspectives. i am in the technology world and i have to make sure this digital area is inclusive. every american, everyone can look and say i can look see myself in that world, i can have a job there. you don't necessarily have to have a four-year college degree get started. this is something to me that's quite a misnomer and misperception, two thirds of our country does not have a college degree. and so there are many jobs, the you can qualify for. but we started originally for was seven years ago we call them pathway to technology. went to some of the most underserved areas, went to the high schools with nearby vocational or community college and said let's work with you. we'll give you kind of criteria and mentors, our employees, will give the kids a chance at her job. they get a high school degree and associate degree at the same time. i now, fast for these years, 150,000 kids are coming through. over 200 schools are in fact

making up 15% of my hires last year in the united states. they and the apprentices are accelerating. maria: talk about the apprenticeship programs. i don't think people understand what skills they may be able to get and that are accessible to them. >> i think that's right and this is actually how we started working together on this workforce development project. and really create just a massive national campaign. we have 7.3 million vacant jobs this country as a byproduct of our success. as a nation, so how do we fill those jobs in one of the things we heard consistently was there just a lack of awareness around the jobs that are available. so we take an industry like manufacturing. there are 500,000 manufacturing agencies today. 500,000 and they are good paying jobs. so a there is a notion of what manufacturing looks like that is not in line with what it is

today in america. manufacturing's advanced manufacturing it's very different than the factories of yesteryear. they have the same the tech industry. so if you have advanced quantum like we were talking before there plenty of occupations that will require advanced degrees. but security and it a lot of them require credential without racking up enormous amounts of stim student debt. so we, as a collective with our boards are developing a national campaign that we are unveiling in february to really open the aperture and expose people to all the different pathways available. an apprenticeship as one of the great ones. it's an area that we can learn a lot, we are here in switzerland we can learn a lot from the sweats. we can learn a lot from the germans. and we have learned a lot from them. maria: so you would hire people without a college degree who have the training

in this. >> sell as public good examples. we are in breach so working in a coffee shop is one of our great cloud programmers. as someone i talked to last week at 17 she went into the army then went to start a family. and then one to figure out what to do. we've started her non-technical sales. these are people with great ambitions, great intellect, you've got to give them a chance. it's a paradigm that we've got to get everyone to buy into that skills are as important as a degree to get started. if you can get the skills many different ways, then you can get a job. maria: can an ironworker who feels that he is out of opportunities learn ai and get a job at ibm? >> i have got veterans, you name it. as a fact in the program that ivanka started we have partnerships with the department of labor and over a

hundred companies picking those frameworks and going with them. i am already up to 500 di year end moving. so to me it's a very scalable for everybody who is out there. >> that you have to be able to imagine it and that's part of this campaign. to realize that, you have to imagine yourself being able to do it. and as a focus on that next generation of american workers, we also have to focus on our workforce. suffer many people in america today, they do the same job today, they need to learn new skill. because the technology is changing and they need to be rescaled. we need to shift the conversation of this country where education is considered a lifelong pursuits, not compartmentalized to one very short. in the arc of one's life. because the reality, for many the jobs are hiring for people need to be trained and retrained multiple times. maria: my thanks to ivanka trump and tran's six. don't go anywhere more wall street right after this.
