"bulls & bears" start right now. david: the world is on high alert as new concerns over the coronavirus outbreak royalty markets today, the dow erasing all of its 2020 gains. diving more than 500 points closing down about 453-point, this is the state department issuing level three and level four alerts about travel to china. hi everyone, this is "bulls & bears" and thank you for joining us i am david asman. joining me on the piano jonathan honecker, liz, and jeannie xena. the cdc confirming at least 81 people are now dead in china. nearly 3000 cases worldwide. five of them in the u.s. and the

cdc predicting the number will rise. this as investors fear the virus is becoming more contagious so with volatility climbing to the highest level of the year, is today's pullback something more than just a virus? >> it is something more but something good. we had a gargantuan run, and extreme bullishness in the market is extended. you get a catalyst to pull back but leave no doubt this is the catalyst. the me give you one example, when resort, the stock is craving big time because 75 - 80% of the revenue and profit, from account and were being told that visitation in the first three days of the holiday down 66%. you time that by all the businesses like young brand china, disney shutting down, you get a market route and i suspect there will be more to come before we stabilize.

>> i but the next thousand points are going to be down not in the up. and gary alluded to it, however, bad china says it is. it is a lot worse. they're minimizing. >> human tragedy but an economic tragedy. the chinese stocks are getting killed in the china story is a global supply chain story. nike, estée lauder, all have operations in china. it is so bad they close their own stock market for an extra three days. the fact that the market is given up gains and we've been so bullish as gary said before, i take the next bu that it is dow. >> i don't disagree. i think what gary said, investors are looking for an opportunity to harvest gains that they had last year, this is the opportunity. were in the most fragile part of this right now, we don't know the extent of the disease and were talking about it becoming more contagious but nobody knows how it operates. we have a lot more to learn and

that will happen over the next two or three weeks and the number of industries affected with the airlines and cruise companies, here's a whole lot of people who are a lot of companies will be affected by this. we have not yet had all the analysts come out and say they're either going to be 10% weaker as a result. but that's what's to come and then it will prove eventually to be a speed bump and will be looking again at earnings and earnings will be okay. >> were going to talk about the impeachment trial coming up. does that play into what happened in the market today do you think, or investors concerned that more evidence or witnesses or whatever will make the president's reelection chances go down. >> i don't get the sense that the impeachment -- i think the market is pretty confident that we know how this thing is going to come out. i do question, liz and others have a good explanation of how much is an excuse for people to selloff and how much is a real

indication that there is real risk. one of the fascinating things were just off the heels and we've been told over and over the market is going speed ahead and everything is great. all the sudden the risk that nobody saw coming has really had a tremendous delay so far today impact on how much longer that will keep up. >> the bullishness between fear and greed has started to twist. the great part of that spectru spectrum -- no one knows if this is the top or the bottom but my opinion to get your financial house in order, pay down debt and live within your means. we will get 20% correction. this can be at work could be later this year or next year. it is coming sooner than we probably think. >> the important point is markets to go down. i know since october 3 when jay powell started, we have not seen even a two day correction. believe it or not, this is normal. it just happens a little bit quicker and faster because it's

been bullishness and everybody has the all in trade and now we get the catalyst to take things down. for me, i'm happy because i will be able to isolate strength as a markets pullback. i don't know if he had about 20% or or another thousand. all i know is i think the trend in the short-term is down longer-term and i think were still in a good set. earnings are still decent, growth stocks have been acting strong but markets go down every now and then. >> even some analysts who suggest were having -- the beginning stages of a market pullback say that's a good thing to gary's point. it's like burning the underbrush. so the forced can grow stronger. >> is always an unexpected trip. we never have any idea what's going to come out of left field. these things happen in they dislodge confidence and sentiment but generally speaking that's a pretty brief phenomenon. i think were more fragile because nobody knows how

widespread this is going to be. but we've had these diseases in the past and they've always moved on and we figure it out and life goes on basically. although it is a human tragedy. >> to your point, could it be phase ii and phase three of the china trade deal, that is much more difficult as people in china are even working. they have thousands of people quarantines and not working. >> 15 million people quarantines right now. not thousands. this is pretty much widespread. i believe china is $13 trillion economy so it really does matter that they say is growing 6%. it really does matter and affect the rest of the world because there is a big pipeline from there. this has to be watched very closely. >> i think the real question, we have seen the chinese government put in the quarantines and now

we have to ask our consumers going to do the same thing a self imposed quarantine. in watching things like what happens in the restaurant industry and the bar industry. and liz was mentioning as we think about some of the travel industry and how it'll be impacted by this. i think we depended so much in the market on consumers and when they start to pull themselves back, the impact is very, very real. >> by the way one more second, this is a moment where it would be great if we have confidence in china's government. if we knew it was accurate. >> we have people on video in china saying it is way worse than they are saying and a lot of us are buying that. >> let's talk about china's holiday where they spend a ton of money and now they're not going to. a definite repercussion. >> i think they will be desperate for another trachea. more than 100 people under investigation for possible coronavirus infection, the cdc warning the number will continue to climb.

forth to which you say what? >> i say we dealt with pandemics before of different severities and scope, we need to be preparing as if it is a pandemic but we certainly need to hope it is not. >> doctor, i wanted to ask you, what are the early signs that people should be watching for as you look to detect the disease in the united states. >> this is really important. we are asking people returning from the affected regions in china to be on the lookout for fever and respiratory symptoms like a cough. if you travel to those areas and you have the symptoms, you need to contact your healthcare provider so you can be appropriately treated and importantly so you're not passing on the disease to anyone around you. >> doesn't make sense for all of us to order the masks and wear them in the subway and on the buses and stuff. we also don't thought people were kooky to do that in the beginning but why not do it.

>> that is a really important question. i understand why people are worried. you see the news coming out about china and of course you will be worried. right now in the united states we have five cases, those cases all had themselves traveled to wuhan china. so while i understand people's concern, it is important for the public to know that right now the immediate risk to the u.s. public is low. i do think will have additional cases and may have cases among context and we may have human to human transmission but the risk right now to the american public is low. i don't think people need to be wearing those masks. >> back in 2002 and 2003 with sars china was famous for understating the numbers on how bad things got over there. how are we going to know this time that they're not doing the same. is there any way to verify any

of this coming out of this country? >> i think there's a lot of information coming out of china especially over the past couple of days. the numbers have been klein climbing and wuhan and huanggang. also a lot of places have been impacted. you see this disease and 16 other countries. that gives us a lot of information about the scope of the outbreak and we will continue to evaluate all the information coming out of china and were hoping for more information that will help us understand what is going on. our focus is protecting americans and were learning a lot from the cases in the u.s. >> a lot of americans vacationed in china. you and your family had plans to go to vacation in china. would you go right now? >> thank you for that question, cdc just posted need guidance. we are recommending that if you have traveled to china that's nonessential you deferred that

travel. what i mean, if you have a vacation planned for next week to china we really think you should consider postponing. we think it's a defensible precaution to take in the rapidly evolving situation. >> a lot of people wondering about vaccines and how quickly we can develop one specifically for this virus. any idea about that and i imagine a lot of people are working on it right now. >> i am happy to say a variety of researchers in the united states as well as round of the world are working on vaccines including the nih, starting early work on the vaccines but as you know vaccine development for new disease like this takes a while into what our focus needs to be on now is identify patients with this coronavirus quickly, looking to make sure anybody who had contact with them is being detected so we can make sure it does not get transmitted. it's those precautions we need to focus on now even as scientists work towards things like faxing. >> do we actually know how this

things is transmitted in other words we read today even if you are asymptomatic you could pass on the disease if you have it. his district human contact or breathing the same air. do we have this nailed down yet? >> this coronavirus is in a family of virus called coronavirus. they are viruses that circulate in animals but sometimes they jump to people. they can cause things like the common cold but they can also cause more severe disease. in general, coronavirus like this are transmitted from the respiratory route. that means like secretions being passed from one person to another. i have heard the news that there has been a detection of somebody who has not had symptoms but still had the disease. i think while i should focus on now what we know for the united states, we have not seen that here in the united states and we will do everything we can to take all the new information and

at the site of the crash that took the lives of kobe bryant, his 13-year-old daughter gianna and seven other people. their first job as you look up at the hill site in the crash site itself was to remove the bodies of those nine people. you can see just how difficult it is to access that site and for that reason the coroner has said it could be sometime even a couple of days before they are able to get everyone of the bodies out of the crash site. alongside those recovery personnel in tsp investigators looking for the precise cause of the crash focusing focusing on the weather at the time the helicopter went down. there was dense fog over calabasas at that point. in the pilot was flying under special visual flight rules designed to aid in those kind of

david: president trump getting credit for the economy test rating in two decades. a fox news poll showing a record high, 55% i people in america believe the economy is in good or excellent condition. 50% of americans also believe he should be convicted and removed from office. will the president economic accomplishment be enough to sway voters. >> i think so.

particularly in the absence of any good economic program from the democrats. if they had a message that came out and said here's how we will make your job even better, here's how wages will go up faster than maybe trump would face pressure from this. but i think as it stands, president trump has a good campaign slogan with are you better off than you were four years ago. the answer for almost every american the answer is yes. >> we need to look at the history. 80% of presidents in a good economy in this country will be reelected. so the numbers are on his side. there's no arguing that the economy is bad and when democrats, they've done this to a certain extent, go down in these debates to make the case against economy that's not the way to win. the only way democrats pull this off is if they change the page and start talking about other things. they have to look back to 2018, look at issues like pharmaceutical costs, like it

healthcare, those are the ways to turn the page beyond the economy. they cannot when making a false argument that the economy is bad. >> or focus on the economy itself. david: they are making a renewed push to formal national security advisor john bolton testified after part of the manuscript was leaked to the new york times. while being vetted by the national security council. democrats claim the leaked information from his book bolsters their contention that the president was tying ukrainian aid into an investigation of the bidens. the president is not so concerned. >> i have not seen the manuscript but i can tell you nothing was ever said to john bolton. but i have not seen a manuscript. i have not seen it. david: the question i have, how the heck did a book being vetted by the national security council walk its way over to the new york times? >> i had nothing to do with it. i promise.

[laughter] without taking sides, because we have everybody here, the interesting part of the whole equation is the timing of it, the day after trump administration puts on a defense on the impeachment, all the sudden is at the new york times who i don't think likes the president too much. i don't know who involved or what's involved, but there is a determined bunch to drive this baby to the hoop. >> however, interesting the timing would be. the testimony would be more interesting. i think mark twain -- let's hear it. if you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything else. bolton knows the truth, he was there, first person with the president to have the trial and continue in the senate without hearing from bolton almost seem. david: would you be okay hearing from the bidens at least one of them. >> that is up to the managers.

i would defer to the managers. but john bolton had one on one experience with the president on issues at hand to not hear from them would seemed like a complete waste of time. >> i just have to mention that this is one of the most important proceedings in the history of this country, i don't care which side you're on, it's incumbent of having witnesses and let the truth get flushed out one way or the other. i agree with jonathan on that. >> i think what the leak has done is put pressure -- having trouble and testify, he was national security director. there is no way someone in that role should be testified openly about what went on in the oval office. i'm sorry i disagree. >> they could do that, they could ask him questions. david: the book was supposed to be secret too. forget about secrets.

revolving door. leaving documents going out and have no problem with people making money. but when you leaving government office there should be a regulatory scheme in place so you are not out writing books like this in making a lot of money particularly when we have a president the third time in history under impeachment. it's a real deception to have. >> you say it could be the deep state and that white house leaking information it also could be the publisher or the kinko's with the copier was. a lot of people had access to this. >> we do not know that. we don't know how many people had access, the nsc is supposed to be careful about making sure other people don't have access. fred who used to work for john bolton said he should withdraw his book until after the election, that was done apparently by bob gates another administration official back in 2012, he withdrew his book before the election and finally came out in 2014.

do you think there's any chance he'd be persuaded to do this? >> it will depend on whether he thinks although reporting is unfair and have an unfair impact on the trial. >> john bolton, i've always held him in high regard and i think it's slightly amusing for the first time in his career the new york times and washington post is taking him seriously. how nice for him. he finally got the respect. >> it will depend if the check was cashed yet or not. palestinians. let me visit the most radical part of them, it is no friend of the peace process. they said it clear from the river to the sea and back by who, two other players who do not like peace at all in the region to a certain point. but all the palestinians in the west bank and they have said if you give us a little bit here, a little bit there we may change your position and the arabs would help us. i think treacherous thinking on the west palestinians. >> i have to tell you throughout the last three decades i have been hearing about this piece plan and that piece began and nothing has ever happened. i'm always a big believer that the best piece plan would be israel to do exactly what they're doing, grow their economy in every way shape or form and be the miracle in the

middle east and i've noticed the last 30 years all these countries becoming friends of israel because of the economic growth in the trade deals. what do you think that being the best piece plan and the fact you mentioned an economic deal hardens me a little bit. >> that's a great question because you are right. something has changed from the past three or four decades. i heard about the israeli and palestinian solution back in beirut many years ago. what has changed out of 2017 when president trump went to the region and addressed 50 arab and muslim leaders and he realized they are very concerned about issues outside that is iran. he banked on this matter and most likely he got that they would be willing to convince the palestinians. but guess what those among the palestinians who would always oppose as long as they are strong in gaza. that's where the real problem

is. >> let me ask you about the timing of this release. that's one thing critics of talk the timing is really suspicious given everything going on domestically for benjamin netanyahu. how much of an impact do you think his domestic difficulties are going to have in terms of seeing this thing come to for which in. >> another very difficult question. those raising the issue of timing is a policy decision and i'm sure the white house and their allies elsewhere have discussed the timing not just out of the blue. even if it's a timing linked to domestic issues in israel and the fact that we are inviting to leaders of israel may indicate we want to make sure before the israeli elections we have a unity in israel. we see with the palestinians later but what president trump has in mind is making sure is really. david: we can only hope. thank you for being here.

cost of his agenda. >> your agenda has promised free healthcare for everybody, free college tuition, and to pay off people's college loans. the price tag for that is estimated to be $60 trillion over ten years. correct? >> we have political opponents -- >> you don't know how much. >> you don't know, this is impossible. >> you propose a plan but not tell them how much it cost. >> nobody knows. 60 trillion-dollar price tag for sanders may be a generously low estimate other put the number as high as $100 trillion. why can't we get an answer. >> there is no answer, no one knows how much it will cost and certainly bernie sanders does not know. it points up how irresponsible his campaign and pitch to voters is. trust me i will make it work and come up with the money somewhere. it is not true and you hope the people going into these primaries are going to know it is not true and finally at the

last moment say we need an answer. by the way, it's unfair in a sense that elizabeth warren's campaign tanked because she actually did try to give an answer. i don't like elizabeth warren particularly but at least she was honest and tried to come up with the numbers. >> credit -- this is a big red flag for democrats because let's not forget we have all this tension on iowa and new hampshire and this will be fought in states like wisconsin, michigan, florida, pennsylvania and the voters in those states are not going to go for a 50 trillion-dollar, 60 trillion-dollar program. this is a losing by the democrats. they need to look at their moderate when and they need to move if any hope of defeating. >> do i really want to. i have three hours left. he needs to borrow my rusty advocates when it comes to his numbers. the man has ever created a dime

morgan chase jamie dimon calling him the biggest corporate socialist in american today. sanders claimed in a tweet that he has a 416 billion-dollar bailout during the financial crisis and in fact the bank was askeactually forced by the government to take a $25 billion loan which the bank paid back at a profit to the government. i want to stick with you. i remember we were bashing, the do the facts matter at all when you're bashing capitalism? >> obviously not. jamie dimon, filet mignon, bernie sanders scam. there is nothing against that but this is a fact jamie dimon has run the company fabulously. they only employed 50000 people crating tens of billions of dollars of wealth. bernie sanders has done nothing but whine and complain about everybody that is doing the production and the producing.
