the nikkei in japan up 1%, the hang sang in hong kong down a tenth had of 1%. deirdre: in europe, a similar picture there, the ftse, the cac, the dax all down as you can see there, clearly. lauren: two cases of of coronavirus in the u.k., ftse down over 1%. the death toll from this virus rising to at least 213 people with at least 10,000 cases confirmed across 20, perhaps 21 countries this morning, prompting the u.s. state department to issue a travel warning, telling people don't go to china and the world health organization to declare it a global health emergency. deirdre: aishah hasnie joins us now with more on the first person to person case diagnosed in the u.s. it started in chicago, right? >> reporter: that's right. as you said, the state department warning do not travel to china. but this morning some u.s.

airlines are still going there including delta. delta only cutting its china-u.s. flights by half starting tomorrow. american airlines just suspended service from lax starting next week. a pilot's union is suing american to stop all china-bound flights. the number of sick has reached 10,000 globally including two new cases in the u.k. travel warnings may not be enough to stop the spread of the virus. on thursday, we saw the first person to person case here at home. a chicago man got sick from his wife who recently returned from wuhan, china. >> the husband had e poe sure o the patient at the time his wife was having symptoms. we have no reason to think he you a choired this he virus in any other way, other than contact with his wife. >> reporter: tensions in the meantime are boiling over in china. healthcare workers in hong kong

are threatening to strike if the government doesn't close its borders. and shanghai just announced it's starting to limit the purchase of those face masks to just five per household you amid worries of supplies running out. our own correspondent, peter doocy, asked president trump last night, is china doing enough. >> we are in great shape. china is not in great shape right now, unfortunately. they're working very hard. we'll see what happens. we're working very closely with china and other countries. >> reporter: the good news is that china has agreed to accept help from the world health organization which just declared this outbreak a global emergency. back to you. deirdre: thank you so much. we will continue to follow this. lauren: as the numbers continue to grow this morning. let's the take a look at another big story and that's amazon. shares are set to soar this morning after the company's latest earnings crushed the street's estimates. the stock is trading at $2,033

right now now. the fourth quarter profit bounced back from the prior quarter when earnings missed expectations because of the cost of one day shipping. the number of prime members up 50% from 2018 to a record 150 million. amazon's market cap crossing the $1 trillion mark, adding $13 billion to ceo jeff bezos' net worth. if amazon were a dow stock it would be on track to ad more than 1,000 points the blue chip index. we'll take a closer look at the numbers in a few minutes. deirdre: the impeachment trial of president trump could end as soon as tonight. a key senator you announcing he will not vote to call witnesses. this deal's a critical blow to democrats' chances of extending the trial. we have reaction from both sides ahead of today's crucial vote. >> reporter: good morning. the trial is a all about the numbers and the numbers changed

overnight. in favor of president trump. republican senator lamar alexander was democrats' last best hope to get enough votes for witnesses. in a blistering statement just moments after they adjourned last night, alexander said this. if this shallow, hurrynd and wholly partisan impeachment were to succeed it would rip the country apart, throwing gasoline on the cultural divisions that already exist. lisa murkowski was still a maybe overnight, telling fox i'm going to go back to my office and put eye drops in so i can keep reading. democrats need foreigns to get witness -- four republicans to get witnesses. >> this is a trial. it's a trial as any 10-year-old knows, we should have witnesses. that's why all the distractions, that's why the president's people are telling you to avoid witnesses because they're afraid of the witnesses. >> reporter: after that vote comes the big one, whether to acquit the president or kick him out of office a.

up nearly 9%, more than likely the stock will move higher today, exceed that $1 trillion market cap level. mark douglas is with us now, founder and ceo of steelhouse. thanks for coming in. amazon invested very heavily last year, they did it to shorten when we get our packages, the standard delivery time is basically one day for most people, they invested in cloud to the point where it made some investors nervous, amazon said they would put $3 billion into the investments. was it worth it? >> i think the results on same day delivery are pretty incredible. i live in la, you're here in new york, if you've been exposed to that, it's pretty amazing. deirdre: it is. >> and then it kind of just changes the way you look at buying things and packaged delivery and that whole thing. i think what's really interesting and what came out in the analyst call, a lot of questions about was aws. they continue to basically lead

the world in cloud computing. deirdre: microsoft got that $10 billion contract with the u.s. government. granted, it's over a decade. microsoft scooped amazon on that. that doesn't concern you, as far as amazon's position. >> no. i think the most interesting thing that was said during the call was amazon has ain a back g for aws. we would have spent more on aws but amazon has three pricing tiers. deirdre: which is so smart. >> one you buy on demand, the second you precommit for a world, the third is spot instances. a lot of companies are moving to cheaper tiers. in doing that, they're precommitting more dollars. amazon is locking up the market with that. deirdre: bezos is managing it, let's say that. i want to ask about streaming. we saw the statistic, 150 million prime members

betters, some is streaming, some is deliveries. that's up 50% since 2018. that's incredible growth. >> yes. deirdre: what do you think this means, especially as more -- disney plus is online, apple tv plus is online and all the competitors from the networks. >> i don't think it's a great sign for streaming. i think it's a great sign for same day delivery. deirdre: okay. >> amazon bundles those together at price points of $100 or more in the u.s. i don't think most people would pay that for the streaming, they're paying that for the same day deliver hely. i think amazon has a ways to go to compete with netflix and disney plus. overall, the prime is really important for amazon and -- deirdre: we know apple -- it's great to see you. thank you for coming in. lauren: $7 billion expected to be spent betting on the super bowl this year. we've got who america is already placing the biggest bets on ce

now in the race, especially joe biden, are worried about a progressive like bernie sanders leading iowa on top, headed into the new hampshire primary the following week. the biden campaign is crafting a caucus night strategy, trying to build an alliance with another moderate in the race, senator amy klobuchar. iowa caucus rules require a candidate gets at least 15% of support to make it to round two of voting and if a candidate doesn't, then those supporters swing to their support behind a different candidate. so the biden campaign thinks one way to keep bernie sanders from winning iowa would be to convince klobuchar supporters to vote for him on the second ballot, to make the 15% that they need. >> look, every campaign i've been involved in in the caucus, everybody's looking, okay, if your guy doesn't win and your person doesn't win, who are you going to go with. >> reporter: there is another

candidate in the race competing for moderate iowa democrats, mayor pete buttigieg, who says he isn't interested in building a coalition of moderate support to help another candidate on caucus night. instead, he's calling out biden by name on the campaign trail. >> i've seen vice president biden making the case that we cannot afford to take a risk on a new person right now. i would argue that at a time like this, what we can't afford to take the risk of is falling back on the familiar. >> reporter: biden was also asked yesterday at a dairy queen where he stopped in for an ice cream cone what the biggest difference between he and sanders is, he laughed and said, well, i'm a democrat. deirdre. deirdre: thanks, hillary. lauren: good answer. president trump was in des moines last night for another one of his signature rallies. the president attacked his democratic rivals an touted the signing of the usmca trade deal. here now, co-chair of veterans for trump, jessie jane duff. jessie, thanks for joining us.

good morning. >> good morning. lauren: have we ever seen anything like this before, a sitting president running for re-election while the democrats are trying to figure out who their nominee is? >> i know, they're scrambling while the president seems to have a smooth running operation and it's exciting to see that he's still going to go to iowa because he recognizes that while you're in iowa, all these democrats are running around and influencing voters. he's ensuring that he's making his stamp, making his mark and he's got the campaign going out there this weekend and they're going to ensure that the voters in iowa see that there is another option besides these democrats and their social i sos particular -- socialistic ideas. lauren: the country is watching the impeachment trial. we may have an answer today on where the impeachment trial is headed, more witnesses, more evidence or the president's acquittal. >> i don't expect there's going to be any more witnesses or any witnesses because it looks like senator lamar alexander came out and made a very clear statement

that he is not going to vote for witnesseses because he says this is a sham. he also said this would pour gasoline, it's like pouring gasoline on a fire and it would shred the country apart and i appreciate that he's saying that because when they got through the house they didn't have one republican vote. this would require two-thirds of the senate to impeach him and there have been no identifiable crimes. they recognize that this has been purely partisan. so i don't expect that they're going to call for witnesses because it does appear that we have the votes you now, at least the conservatives do, the republicans do, to prevent witnesses from coming in. lauren: the president said he could actually see some democrats coming -- defectors, and that would be doug jones, maybe senator cinima or maybe jojoe manchin. >> i think those three are potentially the top three that could come over. they have shown bipartisan support in the past. they are in states that support trump. they know they can't defy the

people that got them in office be in the first place. trump supporters are very vocal and can impact you in a future election. lauren: what do you make of what we're hearing from democrats now, saying this is -- their message is, it's a trial, the american public is seeing a trial without truth. so if the president is in fact acquitted and we get that answer later today, that they're making that acquittal virtually meaningless. what do you make of that strategy? >> they're deflecting. that's exactly what they did on the house side. they did a trial without truth. they didn't allow the president's witnesses to come forward, they didn't have the opportunity for the case for the be president to come forward. and now in the senate they have exactly that. they have had the white house counsel come and express what their concerns have been and demonstrated what the -- there's been no demonstration of impeachable offenses. i think they're deflecting to what they did in the house and if they had a strong case in the house they wouldn't have this problem in the senate. they pushed it through for

whatever reason because they're trying to derail this president's re-election by any means possible. lauren: and here we are. thanks for the time. >> thank you. deirdre: a new report from bank of america shows that 25% of millennials have more than $100,000 in savings. the millennial generation may not deserve the bad rap that it tends to get. the group started saving at 24 years old, earlier than previous generations. a different report says millennials lag generation z when it comes to the credit rating. gen-z are ages 8 to 23 this year. they are apparently willing to take on more debt, credit card and car loan debt. that seems very young to me. i will follow this story throughout the day. lauren: let's take a look at your money. the gains we saw yesterday wiped out, the dow is now down so this selloff is accelerating fears of

lauren: the state department issuing its most severe travel warning, telling people not to go to china due to the coronavirus outbreak with secretary of state mike bomb may papompeotaking to twitter, sayio people not to travel to china. what common sense precautions can we take? we ask communications expert, erin sykes. should we a avoid travel, whether on an airplane or a train or bus or cruise ship right now? >> i mean, we can' can't avoid complete travel. we have travel needs, travel desires and vacations, all these things planned. it's important not to get ahead of the curve in terms of chaos

breaking out. that said, it's really important to take those basic precautions, the hand washing for at least 20 seconds, which is something that we often -- we wash our hands but sing happy birthday twice, like you would with a little kid. make sure if you use hand sanitizers, that they have at least 60% alcohol. wipe down your seat and area, your tray table, et cetera. and an interesting tip is to make sure you choose the window seat. you don't have as many people passing by you on their way to the bathroom, et cetera. you're a little bit more independent over in the window seat. and then face the air vents away from you. lots of little tips that we can do. i've had personal experience with this. i was on a quarantined jet two years ago where there was a viral outbreak. i had my jacket wrapped around high head because i didn't have a mask handy. make sure you travel with a

mask, rated m-95, that will prevent the germs coming into you, not just germs going out to others. lauren: those are you awesome tips but had they scare people. do you think people will say i'm just going to stay home and hunker down because it's not worth having to worry about that or do you expect maybe some deals to entice people to travel more. >> there's going to be some of both. people that don't have -- that have flexible travel plans, it's potentially very easy for them to stay home. it's all about how you feel and your comfortability. yes, stay home if you want to. if not there, will be travel deals for others. so it's kind of a case by case scenario. you really shouldn't be freaked out. it's a scary thing but in general the cdc is taking extreme precautions and we are safe. lauren: the airlines are sending mixed messages. british airways won't fly to
