lives and infected 20,000 people. liquidity was injected into the chinese markets. that helped asian markets. seems like it is relatively contained. that helps a lot of momentum here in north america with the dow closing higher. nasdaq for a record close again. this would be the 8th record close for 2020 alone. you're seeing a, there you go. nasdaq is on the screen right over there. the catalyst, a lot has to do with china. look at some dow winners for the day. i think we're going to see on the screen. look at that. apple, microsoft, caterpillar, often moves with any type of news of china and walgreens. microsoft actually hitting an all-time high today. share price closing at 180.12. we have to end on the big news story, the big talker for today, that would be shares of tesla. it is actually incredible how this stock tore through the markets. yesterday closed 20% higher. today you're seeing it not 20% but look at that 13% higher. so much momentum on the bullish,

bullish price targets on analysts believe it has a lot more room to grow. one billionaire investor ron baron, saying he believes it will hit one trillion in 10 years. i would like to end, there is a lot of fear of missing out but we'll have also ford earnings come out in next 30 minutes. i will be back with those. melissa: kristina, thank you. app failure in iowa lifting stocks, causing chaos in the hawkeye state. what impact could this have on future of election technology? here is curt knudson, cyber guy. liz peek, foxnews.com columnist. a fox news contributor. curt, is this best app they could find? all of silicon valley are democrats. they would have donated an app to help this. how in the world did this happen? >> $63,000 of the worst spent money the democratic party in iowa could have done. watch out nevada spent 5thousand

dollars towards the same app but as of late this afternoon they're bailing on it. they will not be using that. this this is absolute catastrophe and digital disgrace for any political party. as we stand here still awaiting results from the iowa caucus to have an app fail at this magnitude three things went wrong. number one, bad coding. they simply had shoddy build of the app. number two, they failed to train any of the people, all the volunteers. and number three, the backup systems weren't there. they had no redundancy to it. there is nothing to turn to. so we all know at this point what happened. they threw the app in the wood chipper, got on the telephone. there was not staffing to handle all that information. melissa: at one point they said they had bad cell coverage. they blamed everything but trump. i'm sure at some point they blamed trump without question but just unbelievable.

liz, i thought it helped the market rally. because as the dems sit it disarray that is good for the economy, good for the market. what do you think of that? >> that is an interesting theory. we had a conversation last night whether a big bernie sanders win would be good for bad for the markets because presumably no one wants him in charge of our economy. a lot of investors would be terrified by that prospect. on the other hand, i don't think very many people think he can win. that is an issue of debate. i have to say awful lot of republicans are enjoying today but i also think, melissa, there was a big jobs number from the private sector. the adp number was absolutely huge and we've seen really a coordinated hooking up of indices indicating global manufacturing has stablized turning up. all the numbers other than the impact from the coronavirus on the economy are beginning to look a little stronger. so i think that might be more important. melissa: all right. we have "fox business alert"

now. jackie deangelis has the numbers on disney. as i'm watching them cross right here, go ahead, jackie. reporter: good afternoon, guys. a beat on the top and bottom line, expected 27.9 billion. eps came in 1.53 adjusted. that was well above the $1.44 expectation. this is a big deet. the stock was on a tear before the close today. it is up 3% in the after-hours. of course that subscriber number for disney plus. that is what i'm waiting for. when i have it, i will come back to you. melissa: great. we'll keep our eyes peeled for that one. kurt, what do you think about the subscriber number is going to be? they all right started blowing the blowing the doors off it, i think that heightened expectations? >> disney the very next day came out and said we had 10 million signups the first day and then they went quiet we have status

exout there. analysts believe they have gone up to 30 million. the number is still an estimate at this point if you talk to any parent of children in this country they signed up for this. i'm looking for number to be very big. back then when they announced 10 million the first day the reaction to the stock sent it up 7%, that very day. and then investors bid up the stock throughout 2009, based on streaming. so this is a huge narrative for disney's future. melissa: it is only one in my house like netflix where every single person loves it. there is something on there for everyone. i mean there is stuff for myself and my husband. also my 4-year-old, my 13-year-old. it just lives. it's a home run. who else will be able to compete with it? at this point apple is trying. they're doing all original content. that's tough. disney had been collecting all of its stuff together. it is a juggernaut. >> it is. disney going back a long time is

the portfolio they have, thely blairry of products that they have -- library of products they have. that is different for netflix which has to create a lot of original programing to convince people they have to have their service because they don't want to miss out on the original programing. you know what disney has. it only gets better. let's face it, other thinks we'll look for is theme park attendance which has been a little wobbly. they have a big new attraction at their theme parks. that could be good news too. the other thing i think also of interest, melissa, is guidance. whether coronavirus. shutting of parks in someplaces in china will be material enough to talk about. we'll see. melissa: you would have to think that it will be, given their demographic and where they are. kurt, you know in terms of the parks, we were just down there. it was absolutely packed to the gills. you couldn't move. the new "star wars" attraction -- >> talking about orlando? melissa: in orlando, in orlando was, i mean, our family, not me,

26.5 million paid subscribers. they had estimated only about 20 million subscribers although there were some analysts looking for something as big as 30. we'll see how the stock does there. connell. connell: still up a little bit. all right, melissa, a big night ahead of course here on capitol hill where we are today and we just had big news announced a few minutes ago. senator susan collins made it official. she made the announcement public. she will vote tomorrow to acquit the president in the impeachment proceedings. that announcement was just made public by the moderate senator from state of maine, susan collins. comes just hours from the president's third state of the union address, which will be delivered just steps from where i'm standing in the house chamber. so with that, let's go to the other side of town where they're getting set for the speech with blake burman live at white house. reporter: other side of pennsylvania avenue from where you are. when you look at the state of the union address interest

deckly it is when the president lays out their vision going forward for the upcoming year but the white house says what you will hear from the president is a look backwards at the last three years. they will lay out what they see as the economic accomplishments that happened in the last 1000 plus days. for example, we're told that the president will tout the china trade deal, usmca trade deal and tax legislation of 2017 that led to the creation of opportunity zones. one administration official told me the economy will comprise a significant portion of his speech. president's top economic advisor larry kudlow laid out a little bit what we can expect to hear from the president tonight. >> president will lay out this evening and talk about the blue-collar boom. he will talk about the fact that actually the biggest winners in this economy in the past three years are middle and lower middle income people, leer wage people. i just want to say, those are

moments ago, your colleague from maine, susan collins made it official she will vote to acquit the president. as we expect he is on his way to acquittal. >> keep in mind, connell, been through everything a person can go through. her life has been threatened. she has been through all of this thing. she will be really glad it's over. she is, she is a moderate republican. she is a great lady and i'm very proud of her. connell: in the speech this evening from what we've been told, blake talked about this a moment ago, there will be a big emphasis on the economy. the president is saying to reporters, he had lunch with some other television anchors earlier today, it will be a low-key speech. i'm not sure what that means from the president. >> he doesn't know what a low-key speech is. connell: that is what i was thinking. >> it will not be low-key. he will not -- first of all he won't mention anything about the impeachment. connell: you don't think it will come up at all? >> no. connell: we're told it is not in the scripted speech. >> on the economy, my gosh three days ago, we went to 3 1/2% unemployment. that is full employment.

the lowest it has been in my lifetime. i hope he talks about the energy right now. we're making a great contribution in oklahoma the fact we're biggest exporter of oil and gas. the military is the main thing for me because i chair that committee. connell: right. >> we saw a real downturn during the years of obama where he actually reduced defense spending by 25%. he has to talk about that. connell: we're just getting started as you know on a presidential campaign. so is there a way the president can set himself up either for the campaign or outlined priorities he might tackle in a second term were he be elected to one? what might they be tonight? >> they would be. first of all we allowed, we didn't allow, but during the obama years he reduced the spending by 25% in defense spending. that allowed both china and russia to pass us up in certain areas.

everybody won. who didn't win, iowa democratic party paid a company called shadow a little more than $63,000 over two payments in november and december. shadow describes itself, a company that builds, wait for it, affordable and easy to use tools for progressives according to its website. what do you think of shadow? they went cheap. it is affordable. they're easy to use. 63,000 bucks. what you do you think? >> i guess the liberal progressive is your assurance of quality there. maybe you want someone who knows how to build software regardless of their political persuasion but this is going to be one of the many questions coming out of this debacle. the first one being, did you really need to build a customized app? i would think there is a lot of off-the-shelf software that is ready to handle this. this isn't sort of the most technical, the greatest technical challenge we have ever faced, getting caucus results from iowa. melissa: and it failed

miserably. there were precincts said the app never loaded. no one tested it. other places i read, well, because we had no cell service. i don't know if anyone knows what happened but it was a giant disaster. you now nevada is saying iowa won't happen in nevada. famous last words. i don't i think i would be out shouting that, i would be testing stuff. >> iowa really hasn't happened yet. i hope the state democratic party will reconsider this odd decision to start releasing partial results. i think they're going to possibly compound the damage here. they have to know when they put out partial results, whoever is in the lead they will be essentially anointing as whenner. we're hoping that person actually won or else we have another distortion and really disservice from the state party in iowa injecting itself into this race. melissa: so these are the people that want to manage your health care. they want to manage all of our money.

i mean, you know, take all of our money in taxes, do something better with it, when they can't even execute on 63,000-dollar payment for an app that will help them count. i wonder, do you think today's exuberant market rally has anything to do with the fact that these folks look like they may be fumbling the ball here, perhaps not taking control of our federal purse strings? >> i guess that is an interesting question. i looked at the market action and you think about investors taking a deep breath saying the economy is still pretty solid and these viruses tend to not be long term disasters, thank god. you look at it, maybe they're tuning out political noise but you raise a interesting question. are they looking at iowa, thinking market friendly president trump has a better re-election chance today? maybe. melissa: everybody could kind of win here. bernie sanders could fire up the people, look, they're robbing me again.

christina. reporter: shares of ford motor tanking in after-hours earning after the fourth quarter report. adjusted earnings per share fell short of expectations. revenue came in higher at $4.7 billion. i was on with the ceo. they wanted to highlight few issues. higher costs for new products. new labor contracts with uaw and all the strikes. they had a pension write-down. deliveries to dealers were down 8%. sales across all regions were down 8%. the only saving grace was china. bottom line improvement, 61% increase in china. a lot has to do with restructuring. i will end with this. i asked specifically the cfo and the coronavirus how that factors into guidance. they said they didn't factor that into guidance. you saw the shares tank. comparison to tesla. in 2019 tesla sold 367,000 cars. ford sold 2.4 million. back to you guys. melissa: kristina, thank you.

♪. connell: all right, we're back. president trump will be delivering his state of the union address. he will be doing it very close to where we're standing right now, just in the house chamber, which is just over there right behind our camera. he will do it as his approval rating from gallup actually hit an all-time high, 49%, highest it has been in his presidency. we're joined now with his perspective by the democratic congressman from the state of new york, gregory meeks. congressman meeks, good to see you. thank you for coming in person. you know, it is always a big night no matter which party, when you are here for state of the union. senator inhofe was here earlier. you have the buzz of the capital. you have in your party responding to the president tonight, given all he is going through impeachment, touting a economy he says is very, very strong. how do the democrats come back or fight back against that

argument? >> i always refer to communities like mine. i look at my community. i look at individuals who are still struggling to figure out how to pay all their bills every month. i'm thankful that we have had individuals leak in my state that raised the minimum wage to $15, and other states around the country. that has helped this economy, it helped individuals feel like this economy is working. connell: even if those folks are not doing as well you would like to see them do, by the theory of kind of a rising tide lifts all boats aren't things getting a little better? president talks all time as an example of the lows we're seeing in african-american unemployment. he talks about that, i am sure he speaks about it this evening. >> if you look at entirety, the unemployment for african-americans went down greater rate under president obama. you see president obama inherited nowhere near the kind of obama president trump inherited. obama was losing, country was

losing 750,000 jobs a month. obama gave trump an economy that was gaining and was moving. that is continuing that same direction. so what i still looking at, for example, of wealth, the wealth gap of african-americans and homeownership at its low rate. connell: you think you can make that economic argument against a president at a year incumbent up for reelection or do democrats have to go in other direction to make a different type of argument if they're going to defeat him? >> what is important the issues we're talking about. recognizing wages went up to $15 an hour which democrats were pushing that. left alone to the president we wouldn't have done that. states had to do it. if you look at the president's promise in fact he was going to lower the cost of medicine, then you will see he failed that. i think that if they look at the fact that health carry is still important. the president and his administration are still fighting against the affordable

care act where you can have individuals who have preexisting conditions could lose their health care. connell: i was in iowa the last few days including last night for the caucuses, maybe next hour we'll find out more information but we still don't know what happened last night. that seems to be, just about everyone else a rough night for your party in iowa last night. how do you see it? >> it is a rough night but to me what is most important, that every vote gets counted, even if it takes longer. the most important thing about democracy that every vote gets counted. don't rush something. don't do something that does not have enintegrity. make sure that you do everything that dot is, cross ts. every votes counted. we had a close election in my district not too long ago for d.a. what is important every vote counted. took a while, every vote counted. if there was something going on irregular that is a problem. connell: right. >> as long as we count every vote. we know we carnival date it as
