his fellow democrats pre-donald trump chewed up all these republicans that went after him first. and mayor bloomberg had a case to make making exactly the opposite case apologizing for his achievements and not been able to answer any questions. i do not see it. i do not see how he's going to take it. i'm gonna be more noxious than donald trump it's a losing game. liz: there's great pushback against the new york times story that russia is trying to help the president get reelected. bernie sanders was briefed by intelligence officials that russia is trying to help improve we know russia plays a long day. your take on all this? >> i think if you go back, it seems no doubt that russia would want to create mischief and a lot of the findings before were showing they were not for one can do together, they want to create mischief and discord in the u.s., and they did in the impeachment trial. >> but the new york times story had people on msnbc and saying

trump is a russian asset. we had two years of the intelligence community, james clapper and john brennan said this and it's outrageous what they think. i'm not sure this helps democrats, we will go down this road again, i don't think so. donald trump's ratings rose during impeachment. this is what we want to do. here's the other back story, the big story going on in the democratic race. bloomberg and pete buttigieg warning that sanders at the top of the ticket they will not be the president and we have new republican pulling showing battleground voters are saying we do not want bernie sanders, maybe the house will go back to the republicans for nancy pelosi. >> those we can speculate all day. in some sense i think bernie sanders because even democrats are accusing him -- would be easier. if mayor bloomberg were the nominee, i think there would be so many bernie supporters that would be upset. if he gets us through broke brod

this the beginning of the end of america's longest war? fox news at the state department with more. >> this is the first in a series of steps between the united states and taliban the goal is to end the u.s. time in afghanistan, 18 years of conflict in that country. what happens now, you have the reduction in violence agreement in afghanistan, if that holds for the next week there will be a signing ceremony between the united states and the taliban and after that in early march that sets up a process where the taliban and the afghan government would kick off negotiations. secretary of state mike pompeo has been traveling in the middle east over the past few days, he said the goal in these discussions is to ensure no terrorist group ever uses afghanistan to threaten the united states were american allies like al-qaeda did leading to the september 11 attack. in a statement the taliban says

both parties will make arrangements for the release of prisoners, structure a path for inter-afghan negotiation with various political parties of the country and finally lay the groundwork for peace across the country with the withdrawal of all foreign forces. senior administration officials say the u.s. troop withdrawal would be in phases and based on the taliban living up to its commitment in the agreement. the official acknowledges there could be spoilers, those in afghanistan who prefer to continue the work and keep fighting, the representative for afghanistan has led the negotiations in the state department official says he will sign on behalf of the united states. this agreement requires the elected government in the taliban to start with these discussions but remember the taliban has been unwilling previously to speak with the government in afghanistan so a lot of uncertainty moving forward as those two begin their negotiation early next month. >> great to see you. thank you for your reporting. let's bring in my next guest,

she's very heavily watched in d.c., fox news former policy and former state department official. your reaction to the peace agreement, by the way we should point out over 157,000 people have been killed in the war in afghanistan since 2001, what was your reaction when he heard that? >> to me it represents a strategy and doctrine of the trump administration that has been ignored by so much of the media and foreign-policy community. the president is attempting to deliver on what he not only campaigned on but what he strategized for a number of years, he has said we should not be in endless wars, he is also understood that it's a step reduction to get us out of the wars, he understands that we have to negotiate and engage with reactors like the taliban

but there is now because of the maximum diplomacy campaign toward afghanistan that the president has organized within the country and around the globe a match of the afghan people. while the afghan people want a political process, the united states wants to make sure that afghanistan is a deny territory for global tariffs that can affect the u.s. those objectives are coming together and it means that the united states can begin the process if the violence reduction. works out and negotiation follow. begin the process of reducing our forces while leaving every digital counterterrorism force that is consistent with most parties including the taliban would accept. this is an exceptional moment,

we have to be cautiously optimistic but it's what strategy and doctrine look like when washington put forward. liz: washington post reporting that national security officials are saying they do not believe a withdrawal of troops from afghanistan, is the taliban going to knock out the afghan government once the u.s. rose on the troops? >> that is the million-dollar question, there are lots of million-dollar questions associated with what can happen. many of the naysayers say the taliban -- the minute the u.s. draws down revert to prior behavior. but there also incentives for the taliban to be part of the political future that is much more representative for the afghan people. they even had to make concessions around women's rights. there will be redlines for all sides but we have not gotten that far yet. i would dismiss the elite community that wants to say there's no pathway because we have to work with the parties that we have.

liz: let's switch gears, reports coming in big pushback against new york times story that intelligence official warned b house lawmakers that russia is interfering again to reelect the president. cnn tweeting this that the story could be overstated that russia -- instead the story could be russia meddling again, we also have reports coming in in the washington post saying bernie sanders has been briefed by intelligence officials that russia is trying to help him get elected. >> it's all over the place. i wish we could do a very long segment on russian and international meddling in u.s. and other elections. this is been a problem throughout world history, whenever there is an election there are parties outside of the sovereign state who have an interest in the outcome. it is not clear to me that the russians have an interest in donald trump being reelected.

saying the battleground voters, if you try to do that and say it's obama's economy, it will not play, it's a losing message against trump, your reaction? >> i figured the really hard-sell, certainly the recession ended way back in 2009, we had a verse though economic recovery, all of it was heavy regulatory burdens based on businesses. what we seen in recent years as regulation came up, we saw a broadly manufacture recovery in the recovery of manufacturing has been the strongest and durable that we've seen more than 40 years, that's made a real difference because there's a lot of parts of the economy that we did not see in the recovery during the last decade and they only within the last two years finally recovered the jobs that were lost during the recession. liz: it's been a painful

obama. liz: were talking about economic approach. >> i do not want to slam him because were dealing with difficult times but i've got to tell you we are very slow economic recovery and a lot of things that we tried did not work all that well. for starters, we had a housing slump and we really -- we were slow in addressing the housing market and really it's only recently got back on track and we had a lot of government spending programs that essentially paved roads that were repaved that we did not build a whole lot of lanes of traffic or new bridges that needed to be built. so we did not increase the economies capacity to grow. there were a lot of things that happen. it was a very trying time. >> understood. i don't see democrats campaigning on obama recovery. >> hillary clinton in 2016 said president trump's policies would

cost the economy 3.4 million jobs. i hear what you're saying, i just think the selection is about the narrative and what people will believe. >> i have to tell you people don't look at the numbers when they look at the voting booth. they go in there and they vote how they feel. in the gallup poll that shows that the smallest proportion of americans feel that the economy is facing problems today and most people, 90% feel good about the economy so i think the other 10% work in washington. but for most ordinary people they feel great about the economy today. >> the latest liberal to join alexandria ocasio-cortez telling bernie the medicare for all will never happen, new york times columnist also former top democrat senator harry reid, all of this happening on the evil of the nevada caucus. coming up.

russia is trying to get him elected. your take on all this? >> there is no place for election interference, the president said that, he's been very tough on russia, but this is the real key that this president can win with the boost to the american people, he has immense support, that is a fact, he is going to win and run away with it. liz: it looks like the near times ramped up the story, the media saying trump is a russian acid again, they ran with it on msnbc, they have been hammering away that trump is a russian acid again. your reaction? >> that's exactly what they do, they carried the talking point to the left with no sourcing and not talking to the white house and without any verification on the reporting, they literally make things up and do the work for the dnc for the left and all the democrat candidates. it's ridiculous and it should be malpractice, it is essentially

journalistic malpractice. liz: let's switch to the 2020 democratic race. bernie sanders wants a big government takeover plans but has about history of not showing up for senate vote. we sell that this year about 60% of the time, a third of the time in 2016 he runs below the median of senators who show up. he ranks right down there in terms of people who show up for voting. he says he will have obama's backing despite reports obama does not side with bernie because he would wipe out obamacare. and then we have this, liberal, nest of the new york times says medicare for all will not happen. aoc said that now we have senator harry reid saying that. a whole bunch of that in just a second. thus get your reaction. >> medicare for all is a sale policy, we talked about it before. bernie sanders is pushing it
