investors nervous. cheryl: oil and gold right now, oil we see the selloff continuing this morning. that contract is down 1.5%. again, think about consumption in china and now other countries. that is affecting oil. gold is the opposite, a little bit of a bump here. that safety play continues. lauren: safety play being seen in the treasury market. the yield on the 10 year treasury down five face a row at 1.33% this morning. cheryl: stocks in asia, investors continue to grapple with the spread of the coronavirus. that's affecting manufacturing, the supply chains, especially in the asian region, red across the board. the biggest loss right now, the kospi, coronavirus affecting that market. lauren: stocks plunging in europe, the cac in paris down 1.2%, dax down 1.7%. cheryl: our top story continues to be the coronavirus because now san francisco has declared a state of emergency over the deadly outbreak. for the first time the virus has infected an american soldier in

south korea. lauren: let's go to jackie abanya, she's live as the cdc warns this outbreak could become a pandemic. good morning, jackie. >> reporter: san francisco city leaders declaring a state of emergency to speed up its response when and if the coronavirus hits the bay area. people have been treated for the disease, so far no cases originated in the city. san francisco's mayor saying residents need to be prepared. >> while we have no active cases in san francisco at this time, we are focusing our efforts on protecting the people who live and work here around we want to be ready for what we anticipate may come our way. >> reporter: now, the declaration will allow the county to staff more doctors and nurses, 24 hours a day, and allow for future state and federal reimbursement. this as another american who was evacuated from the diamond princess cruise ship in japan is

transferred to a hospital in nebraska. the patient was being monitored at travis air force base in california and is the spouse of one of the 13 people who arrived in omaha last week. for the first time, an american soldier stationed in south korea tested positive for the virus. the 23-year-old is being quarantined near the city where most of the country's coronavirus cases have been clustered. the cdc says it's matter of time for the virus to spread across the u.s. and disrupt our everyday life. listen. >> current global circumstances suggest it's likely that this virus will cause a pandemic. it's not so much a question of if this will happen anymore but rather more a question of exactly when this will happen and how many people in this country will become infected. >> reporter: the number of cases worldwide this morning jumping to more than 80,000 with 57 right here in the u.s. and more than 2700 deaths worldwide. back to you. lauren: thank you. the trump administration is saying we've got it under control so a little bit of mixed

messages coming between the cdc and the administration. let's go to south carolina, because sparks were flying last night as bernie sanders and mike bloomberg faced a barrage of attacks from fellow candidates during the democratic primary debate. cheryl: the primary considered to be a must win for joe biden, this is just three days away. did he do enough to attract voters or to save himself. hillary vaughn is live this morning in charleston, south carolina with a lot more. what a night, hillary. >> reporter: what a night. this was definitely the most intense debate we have seen so far. the gloves are off between senators elizabeth warren and bernie sanders and mayor michael bloomberg as sanders attacked bloomberg for his billions, warren went after him for the complaints he's received as an employer from women in the workplace, after bloomberg agreed to release three women from nondisclosure agreements that he had them sign after they

filed complaints. >> donald trump thinks it would be better if he's president. i do not think so. vladimir putin thinks donald trump should be president of the united states and that's why russia is helping you get elected so you lose to him. >> mayor bloomberg has a solid and strong and enthusiastic base of support. problem is, they're all billionaires. disney. the ceo, bob iger, is being replaced by bob chapin. iger has been ceo for 14 years. he will stay on as executive chairman through the end of his contract in 2021. chapin has mostly run the theme parks and consumer products. he oversaw the opening of shanghai disneyland. the broader market is selling off. disney is down 3.1% this morning. cheryl: mr. iger is not completely leaving. this will be interesting. coronavirus fears and lot of other issues really for the markets have been slamming stocks for a second straight day. investors are weighing the outbreak's impact on the global economy. dow industrials and s&p 500 tumbled 3%, nasdaq falling nearly 3%. gains have been wiped out for our markets. let's bring in jonas max ferris, a fox news contributor. good morning. >> good morning. cheryl: when you start to see

day after day of a selloff, you start to ask yourself if the reaction is emotional based on fear of the coronavirus and other things going on. is the selloff overdone? >> well, you don't know it's overdone until we see how far the coronavirus goes. i think it's more about exposing the fear that a lot of these countries are still weak and you don't know if this is going to expose, especially in places like greece and italy, where they barely got out of the last crisis and we don't know what governments can do with interest rates this low to boost an economy that's slowed down by anything, whether it's a virus or something else. this is more about we don't know what can be put into place to stop the economy from getting worse globally than anything else, i think and stocks are very expensive globally, particularly in the u.s. right now and that always sets up a potential for a crash for any reason, essentially. cheryl: you're bringing up a good point. we're at lofting valuations

right now. if you see that the top is kind of hit, then it's time to pull back. there may be other things going on in the markets besides the coronavirus, jonas. >> there's also the positive where people always see when there's any kind of crisis, it's a buy in the dip opportunity. even the last 2018 crash was 20%, let's not forget, it was a great time to buy stocks. it's never going to be as bad as people think it's going to be, it's always going to be a buying opportunity, there's that mentality versus this is the big one and the bull market's finally over and those are balancing fears and greed at this point. cheryl: a lot of companies will talk about this in earnings. the other issue is the 2020 election. and now as we're seeing the candidates kind of narrowed down, a couple of market analysts have said, look, we've got to start talk about bernie sanders on wall street. amanda said, look, the risk to u.s. stocks is pretty significant if there's a nomination of bernie sanders because that gives the him a ber

chance of being president. we know how he feels about being president. they say we've got to talk about the risk to wall street if sanders is the nominee. is it too soon or do we need to have the discussion now? >> given what happened with trump sliding through what didn't seem like an easy path, it's never too soon for a wild card and somebody who shouldn't be electable getting elected. there's also the case that the market, anybody gets elected at this point that's not the president, the corporate tax cuts are probably on the line, that was a major boom to the stock market and that would get reversed. ththe coronavirus will make it worse. it's bringing up fears that something has to happen that might not be good for at least tax rates, if not the whole economy. cheryl: you talked that before about the federal deficit. we probably don't talk about it enough. you're right. jonas, thank you very much. good to have you. lauren: the gloves came off at

strategist howard franklin. thanks for joining us. you're both in the south. i want to start with you, anna, running for office in florida where bernie sanders has taken a lot of heat for saying there's a good side to fidel castro's communism in cuba and there's a democratic state senator in florida warning that if bernie's the nominee, trump takes florida. how concerned are you that bernie sanders could take this nomination? >> i mean, i don't think he's going to get it. i say that because the moment he said what he said about castro, he lost pretty much all of miami-dade county. no one likes castro. castro did awful things. for him to say that and not apologize is a huge slap in the face, especially for the hispanic community in miami. lauren: a lot of democrats are distancing themselves from bernie sanders, fighting in the moderate lane. you can make the argument that as they fight and no one has dropped out, they're only

helping sanders. that was for howard. that question was for howard. >> sorry. lauren: no worries. >> no worries. i agree. it sounded as if both senators sanders and warren were initially competing for the lane that bernie seems to occupy all by himself. this will come down to organization of money very soon. we've got a number of moderate candidates who all agree that bernie sanders and his particular brand of democratic socialism wouldn't do well for the democratic party in 2020 or going forward. it will come down to resource and organization very quickly. the way these campaigns typically work, they're focused on the state at hand. they're all in south carolina. obviously super tuesday will present a different challenge across 14 states. lauren: let's look at the nbc poll in south carolina. you can see joe biden has a lead, 27% support. but narrowly in second place is bernie sanders. so anna, how important is south carolina and a major victory

there for the longevity of the joe biden campaign? >> i think it's going to be very important. right now, bernie is nationally polling very well with millennials and gen-gers. biden needs a leg up. it's important for him to score in places like south carolina, especially given the political climate within the dnc. lauren: how do you think biden did last night, making his case and do you think he can build any momentum between the primary saturday and super tuesday a few days later? >> i think not only does he have to win, but he has to win convincingly, can't be a 2 or 3 point margin with bernie on his heels. as you've seen the last kim weeks, we've given -- democrats coming second and third if they beat expectations. i think joe biden has shown he can be affable, he can have a command of the issues. the question that democrats have been asking for the last year is which joe biden is going to show

up on any given night. he did have some gaffes, he did maybe imagine a couple pacts and misconstrue a couple numbers. the concern is among five or six or seven democrats at a time the mistakes will go unnoticed. against donald trump on a debate stage, he will make a mockery of him. lauren: did any of the dynamics change last night? >> in my opinion, biden performed well. bloomberg came in, tried to crack a geek and humanize the -- crack a joke and humanize the situation. he said he spent $100 million to buy congressional seats and no one, doesn't matter if you're democrat, republican, independent, no one likes the feeling of being bought so i think that really hurt him. lauren: anna, howard, thank you for weighing in after the big debate last night. we do appreciate it. >> thank you. cheryl: we've gotten an update on the coronavirus from iran, 19 dead there, 139 case is confirmed. there's over 80,000 cases of the coronavirus worldwide. that is affecting futures, along with other issues.

lauren: sales force took a one, two punch yesterday, particularly in after hours. cheryl: all about those earnings, tracee carrasco. good morning. tracee: shares of the cloud sharing company were down 3.5%, this after it reported fourth quarter earnings that missed wall street estimates. the loss was $248 million compared with the net income of $362 million during last year's fourth quarter. salesforce also announcing that its co-chief executive keith block is stepping down. marc benioff will become the sole ceo. tess. [ laughter ] under out-- tesla under scrutiny. the ntsb says the auto pilot feature played a role in a 2018 crash in call noo california. investigators say the driver had the feature engaged in his model x and was playing a game on his iphone. the ntsb said tesla failed to take measure to prevent foreseeable abuse of the auto

the phones aren't being produced now. >> i think we're getting into that zone where that might be a concern but ironically the final components aren't locked down until may. we have a couple months of leeway. i don't think it's time to play the freak-out song yet but it's something to worry about. if coronavirus wasn't happening, this shareholder meeting would be a nothing burger today. no one would pay attention to it. cheryl: they have other products in the pipeline, there's questions about where are they going to go with the mac, the next generation of apple tv, where is the car we've been waiting on. it's a good time to talk about apple. someone made the point yesterday, just because we're having a major market selloff and maybe some of it is panic over coronavirus, it doesn't make apple a bad company. apple didn't fall apart in seven days because the coronavirus has investors nervous. >> two years ago, they changed the guidance they gave, everyone freaked out. we've been here before with

china. demand waning a year am apple always comes out on the other end and they've typically been great buying opportunities. cheryl: we've got to start talk about that, lou. i'm glad you brought that up. disney and bob iger, a little bit of pressure on the stock. he's going to be executive chairman, focused on entertainment. he's had a lot of wins at disney, trying to retire for years. what do you make of bob iger's announcement. >> it came as a surprise. people want to make it more reality tv drama than it is. it's really a transition plan that's not set in stone, if you read the sec disclosures, he remains as executive chairman, complete creative control over programming and disney plus and then can be assigned any responsibilities by the board. so he's really largely in charge, just not of the day-to-day operations of the parks and things. i don't think it's a big deal. cheryl: also too, to follow up on that, bob chapin, there's a lot of discussion about whether or not he will be the eventual

leader of disney. he's still going to have to answer to the board and to iger. we've seen this play out before with potential successors to iger that didn't pan out. >> he's on a trial period. we'll see what happens. the last time it happened in 2015 we had someone come in that was largely believed to be the successor to iger answered lasted six months and he was out. chapin's got a three-year contract. we'll see what happens. cheryl: big shoes to fill. anybody that follows bob iger in that role has big shoes to fill. thank you. >> thank you, cheryl. lauren: the air re heiress to t pocket company is sentenced to five months in prison. she only accepted responsibility when backed into the corner. she was tacked on with a money laundering charge. this could mean a heavier sentence for lori loughlin. she and her fashion designer

husband have pled not guilty for their role and are fighting the charges. cheryl: peter nigard stepping down from his company after the fbi and local authorities raided his firm's manhattan office as part of an investigation into sex trafficking allegations against him. earlier this month, 10 female plaintiffs filed a lawsuit in federal court accusing him of raping women and under age girls at his estate in the bahamas. a spokesperson said he is cooperating with the investigation and he expects his name to be cleared. lauren: hillary clinton opening up about campaign donations she received from now convicted rapist harvey weinstein. she said he contributed to every democrat. >> he contributed to every democrat's campaign. he contributed to barack obama's campaign and john kerry's campaign and al gore's campaign and everybody's campaign. lauren: even mike bloomberg had help from weinstein when he ran
