socialist, whether you're hispanic, whether you're a black american. but that's, that's the end of the conversation -- trish: so how disenfranchised, though, are those people getting? if you're in bernie's camp and you think he's going to actually win this thing, and then it turns out that some people made a few phone calls and effectively really hurt your candidate, you might feel like you got robbed again, right? so do you sit home? do you switch sides? where do they go? >> i think it remains, it's got to shake out a little bit. there's also some tension, obviously, between the warren faction and the sanders faction. if that can be worked out somehow, i think we have to see what that looks like. but i i know the last time they did this, the sanders folks, a lot of them did sit out and even some came to trump. i think they did it this way to make the illusion that this happened organically. they set the tables to give them -- the democrat party

leadership, let's face it, doesn't, they don't trust their voters to choose. right? so they're going to give them limited choices to make sure they get to the right place. that's what a they did, and i think the sanders folks are going to have to come to that realization or they're just nebraska going to -- never going to believe it. and bernie himself has to come to that realization. trish: donald trump called it, he said this was going to happen. >> look, donald trump is the youngest man in the race now. direct threat to them. chief justice roberts actually issuing a scathing reply to schumer's rant tonight, and this is very rare as you know, sir. saying, quote: justices know that criticism comes with the territory, but threatening statements of this sort from the highest levels of government are not only inappropriate, they are dangerous. all members of the court will continue to do their job without fear or favor from whatever quarter. the violent language is really out in full force, sir, from the left. what is your reaction to it tonight, senator? >> well, you don't have -- i don't have high expectations for chuck schumer, but threatening a supreme court justice is a pretty big, pretty low. i mean, look, i think it's as simple as this, he's worried about a primary challenge from aoc, and so he's trying to reach that base. i think there's a lot of other ways that he could reach the fringe left rather than attack a supreme court justice. it was wrong, it was a low. i think everybody in this country is disappointed in chuck schumer right now.

trish: do the justices deserve an apology from him? >> absolutely. will he apologize? no way. trish: he's doubling down right now. he came back with a statement against, against roberts because, you know, he's angry. >> everything he does, everything he does is politics. i mean, he's not about let's do good policy, let's worry about our country. it's how can he attack trump, you know, the supreme court justices, republicans. that's all he does all day long. he wants to be, he wants to be the majority leader so bad in the senate, he will do anything. i mean, he spent $65 million in my race in 2018, had a super pac to try to beat me. he'll do anything to try to become majority leader. trish: it's disappointing because, you know, we kind of hold you all up on a pedestal, you know? regardless of party, you're senators. and, you know, you, you're an important part, the fabric of

our country. and to see one of them treat our supreme court justices like that, you know, people who certainly should be above reproach and shouldn't be threatened in that way, he's willing -- it seems, senator -- to take a dangerous turn. >> right. but you know what? the democrats have all become socialists. and if they can't get it through the ballot box, they'll do it through the court system, they'll intimidate people, they'll do whatever they want. they've all become all -- you kk about it, we can all say, oh, bernie sanders is a socialist. no, he's the one that's at least admitting it. they've all become socialists. and biden will be just as dangerous as bernie sanders is crazy. trish: i have a feeling you're quite right. in fact, that's actually one of my next segments coming up. of decades when there is a transformation towards socialism. he saw it in his own country in cuba, he was jailed for six years as a political prisoner because of his beliefs of standing for freedom, trying to get rid of the castro regime at the time. and i have to tell you, he can sense the warning signals all the time. he says here's the deal, this idea of this utopia, this idea of free everything, what it leads to is to the loss of the individual. it leads to collective thinking. it leads to intolerance and lack of diversity of thought. you just saw this with senator schumer saying that our two supreme court justices are going to pay the price. that, to me, is un-american. it is what you would consider something that a socialist would say where the government is the one, is the one that will decide how you think or what you need to decide. and that is incredibly

problematic. trish: i'm going ask the control room if they can pull that sound up again, because it really is shocking, of senator schumer there saying what he said. and you're right, mercedes. i mean, they are all about putting the community above the individual, and that is not what we were founded on. remember, we're all about individual rights. individual property. the communist dictatorships are the antithesis, right? they say we're going to do something -- which, by the way, is never ultimately for the common good. it's ultimately very destructive for communities and people. but to your point, chuck schumer, he should be ashamed for this, because this is un-american. here we go, let's play it. >> i want to tell you, gorsuch, i want to tell you, kavanaugh, you have released the whirlwind, and you will pay the price! intimidation -- [inaudible conversations] >> yep. and that's problematic because what is so great about our nation is that we have these three branches of government that are meant to balance each other. and there's always been great respect for the judicial branch. and so for a democrat senator, the leader, one of the leaders of the democrat party, to basically threaten our supreme court justices, that's just unheard of. and i just find it -- this is where the democrats just keep going way too far. they go way too far on their policies, and what is unnerving for me -- and i think you feel the same way, trish -- is when you look at these exit polls in these democrat primaries yesterday, in california 54% of them, of the democrats, find socialism favorable. trish: acceptable, uh-huh. >> 57% they find socialism favorable. now, that's not the majority of americans, but for the democrat party they really feel very

strongly -- trish: and then -- [inaudible] right? so you will see joe biden, if he's eventually the guy, you will see him track, i believe, increasingly left to bring in those so-called progressives that he needs to court. >> and let me make this very clear, biden is not a moderate, okay? he is more aligned with bernie sanders than we think. he is not a moderate. he said it himself this past weekend on "fox news sunday." he's made it very clear, he is a liberal. he is aligned with socialist policies including medicare for all, including the elimination of our fossil fuel industry, and it is always about the government taking away from the individual. that is not what president trump stands for. he stands for individualism, he stands for economic growth which, as you know being a financial expert, what work works. we know that capitalism has uplifted more people out of poverty, has allowed for america

>> let's not say good-bye, but til we meet again. trish: oh, by the way, that was the beginning of the show. why did they do this right now with him? because he said a few things about bernie sanders? because a woman who writes for gq didn't like the way he talked to her in the makeup room? are they in total paranoid mode? a victim of the p.c. culture that they have upheld on the air but clearly not behind the scenes? matt lauer? i mean, look, from what i know chris matthews was, is certainly no math lauer. i mean, he -- matt lauer. he may not have been perfect and may have said some things that ruffled people's feathers, but he's not the first one to do it, especially there, right? [laughter] let me share with you a point that media critic steve krakauer makes when he says, you know, look, it's kind of odd that they decided to get rid of matthews, but tom brokaw is still there, and he was accused of sexual

misconduct. and then you've got joy reid who's still there, and she's one who had all kinds of homophobic and bigoted content. my goodness some why are the rules different for those folks but chris matthews is shown the door? you know, i'm going to tell you something, i used to work there, and i worked many time on chris matthews' show, and he was always very respectful. one thing i liked about him -- we didn't see eye to eye in terms of politics or policy, certainly on the economy, but nonetheless, he understood economics. this is a guy who understood the difference between fiscal and monetary policy which i'm telling you is a rare thing there at nbc. but he understood it, he appreciated it, he was an economics major at holy cross, and he was willing to listen to the other side. and that's something that, you know, regardless of where you are, you always need to be willing and able to do.

that organization as a whole seems very unwilling to hear that other side. and i think it's going to come back to haunt them. joining me right now the daily caller's stephanie hamill. good to see you. >> good to see you, trish. trish: they've got joy reid still on the air, brian williams had some mishaps of his own, a loose sense of the truth, and, you know, tom brokaw encountered all kinds of accusations and yet chris matthews is the one to go? how come? >> yeah. there's a hot to unpack here, trish. joy reid, the gay homophobic slurs, she's still there. that whole story was pretty by, if you will. as for -- pretty bizarre. as for matthews, i find the timing suspect. i've never met him. i've seen a lot of his segments, and i have mixed feelings about him and him leaving the network. i'm very unhappy with a lot of his coverage, how he's treated

president donald trump, the how he treats republicans often times. but if you look at the past couple weeks, we saw him go off on senator bernie sanders -- trish: yeah -- [inaudible] [inaudible conversations] trish: other commentators, they've compared donald trump to hitler. i mean, there have been a lot of, you know, accusations about nazi germany and the similarities between nazi e germany and this administration. coming from that network. >> yes. and he had to apologize to senator sanders for saying that the nevada caucus was like the nazis' takeover of france. he apologized -- trish: joe scarborough doesn't need to apologize when he makes that analogy -- >> yeah. everyone else can say what they want to say, but matthews can'tment i think what broke the camel's back is when he had the interview with senator elizabeth warren, and he was pressing her on her allegations against bloomberg with his issues against women. he was saying, hook, you believe women, that means bloomberg's a

liar. is so this is when this all began, and that's when the gq article author accused him of flirting with her, and she took issue with him saying why haven't i fallen in love love to with you while she was getting her makeup done. something msnbc has known about for many years, there were complaints back in 1997. so, again, the timing -- trish: i don't know. i, you know, i certainly never saw that side of him. i thought he was, you know, a pretty -- behind the scenes -- a good person and a good colleague. so it's disturbing to see how quickly they're willing to kick him to the curb. i've got to leave it there. stephanie, thank you so much. kennedy joins us with a look at what's coming up on her show. kennedy: great kisser too.
