lou: joining us tonight to take up this latest action by the trump administration, dr. ian lipkin, the director of the center for foreign infection and immunity at columbia university. invited by the chinese government to study the coronavirus and help them tackle the outbreak in their country. i have never seen a president in my career talk about a partnership with private companies and the medical community and government, then demonstrate it as he did today. a remarkable moment. >> this is an extraordinary moment. i agree. it's pivotal. it's a turning point. the fact that we'll be able to recognize who is infected. this will enable isolation and we hope will contain the outbreak.
12:06 am
lou: to see a number of people in the public health agencies hearing governors starting to talk about how well the federal government is responding. this is -- we are starting to see this country get in line with leadership and to deal with what is now we realized a very serious, serious challenge to the country, a great threat. >> there have been people making projections that are extraordinary in the number of potential deaths. but i think this will be a turning point. and i'm optimistic this will have a big impact. >> you have been focusing on plasma. and by the way, to be clear in communication with your colleagues and counterparts in china who has been discussing this with you to use the plasma from the blood of patients who survive the coronavirus. and you believe this could have
12:07 am
a significant impact on saving lives. >> yes. based on the work that's come out of china. one of the reasons i spent time there in addition to trying to reduce morbidity and mortality there, they have a leg up. they see the cases first. they try things we recommend and they comew up with on their -- they come up with on their own. they are giving us the benefit of their experience and sharing that with us. there are a group of us pushing this very, very hard. lou: that is a very good sign for everyone in this country. what has been the response beyond the medical community. if you moved beyond to government authorities to the agencies? >> we are trying to identify people who have been recently infected. so there are three large you areas. one in the bay area, another in seattle, another just north of us in new rochelle. i was reaching out to people
12:08 am
today in that community. their kids have been infected and recovered. and they are enthusiastically participating. lou: that's wonderful. they are critical to a successful program. >> this is citizenship from the top to the bottom. that's what it's going to take. and we'll win. lou: the president said exactly the same thing. said that we'll prevail. he will acknowledges the challenge and he has throughout. it's nice to see democrats beginning to line up. there are a couple people running for president who thought they could make political hay out of their speeches and maybe one or two in congress, maybe a few more than that. but to see democrats begin to turn. this is a truly positive sign. one of the things i see in china its the ability of the leadership in a cop tonight
12:09 am
authoritarian -- in a communist authoritarian government, this president has to lead and persuade. and it's paying off now. leadership in the democratic party is starting to understand this is a time for this nation to come together. >> in china people tell you it's their duty. that's what we are beginning to see here, too. lou: i like your point of view. citizenship, contributing to the country. we should share with you the good news tonight that we are starting to see real evidence of a turn in china, starbucks opening up stores. the number of apple stores i'm told, all of the apple stores have been opened up. that's a huge development. >> it was very aggressive
12:10 am
containment. up not sure we have the ability for that level of containment here. but we'll have to develop it. we'll have to make tough decisions. we are shutting down colleges, universities. struggling with what we'll do with primary schools. one of the challenges is some kids get all of their nutrition present school lunches. we have to become creative about how we address the challenge. but we'll prevail. lou: as i say on this broadcast, we are not butter cups and daffodils. we have a heritage and tradition of meeting threats. sometimes we have to be dragged kick and screaming towards a goal or objective. but ultimately we get it done. as you and the president said today, we'll replicate that historic success. as we wrap up here, your

thoughts about the dependency we share with a lot of other countries on pharmaceuticals and antibiotics originated in china and a veiled threat from some of the chinese media the last week that they might exercise that advantage over us. >> so i know a lot of people in the very highest level of the chinese government, and i can't believe they would follow through with that. we also make pharmaceuticals in india, too. but we do have to do manufacturing in the united states. we outsourced too much, frankly. vaccine production, drugs and such. lou: that's the next phase. it's good to hear you reassure us on that. and we appreciate it. thanks as always for your insight. come back soon.
12:12 am
thank you for my souvenir. 3m -- this is the 8210 plus. that has something to do with my weight class. treasury secretary mnuchin joins us to take up his talks today with house speaker:pelosi and whether they have reached an agreement on as congressional response bill to the coronavirus. pelosi says there is a deal. the treasury secretary will tell us what the case is. the united states is back against an iranian backed militia responsible for killing coalition troops.

12:17 am
we'll learn from him precisely what's going on here, i'm told, with this hour. we are looking forward to his perspective on this and whether the president has approved a deal with the speaker. we are also taking up important issues including the coronavirus. an element of pure coincidence or prophecy by author dean kuntz on the coronavirus. in his novel the eyes of darkness. it's with the wuhan 100 developed outside the city of wuhan. to show you how the loopy left wing national media played this.
12:18 am
reuters went to the great trouble to call claims on social media that kuntz predicted the wuhan virus outbreak as partly false. it was all fiction. but the coincidence is fascinating and fascinating. we'll call it parsley true to aggravate reuters. i think it was an interesting novelty and coincidence. the u.s. responded to an attack on a military base where two american soldiers were killed. helped bow la carried out the attack wednesday jones camp taji.

joining us general jack keane. fox business senior strategic analyst. he's also the most recent recipient of the presidential medal of freedom. the president bestowing that on him earlier this week. we have always been proud of you, general. but prouder still. thanks so much for being with us. let's start with the tragedy of two americans killed in iraq. it sees we cannot extraextricate ourselves -- it seems we can't extricate ourselves. >> the iranians want to put pressure on the americans to get out of there. they are using it as learning. the iranians want to get their
12:20 am
stooge in there, and number two get the parliament to vote the united states out of iraq. that's what their strategy is here. the united states is not going to stand for americans being killed, in this case also a british soldier being killed. so we have a response in kind. limited but directed at the heart of where that attack originated from. lou: this attack and response cycle has gone on for two full decades. where does it end? at what point do we just get the hell out? >> we could do that today if we wanted to. what's happening there, there is a threat from isis. the president determined we were going to defeat isis. we did get rid of the caliphate. there is still a threat there. we have 5,200 soldiers assisting
12:21 am
the iraqis with that threat. we did get out of iraq once before. isis cape back and we had a deal with this beginning in 2014. we are down to a small force to deal with that reality. obviously at some point we'll be out of iraq. there is no doubt about that. lou: there is no historical suggestion or up per tough that we will. -- or imperative that we will. this president wants to bring our troops home and i applaud him in that. we have to come up with some -- i guess general what i'm saying is what albert einstein famously said. the definition of insanity is repeating things that don't worked a inif i my up. we have no doctrine or strategy in the region.
12:22 am
it's difficult to see american lives lost for any reason. >> i couldn't disagree with you more. the president's strategy is clear. he wants the locals to take care of a large amount of the fighting. we have 70,000 syrians trying to keep isis down in eastern syria and less than 1,000 assisting them. we have 300,000 iraqis fighting the iranians. the say thing in afghanistan. we'll get down to a low up in in afghanistan. and we have 300,000 afghans doing the fighting and we are doing the assisting. it's i different model than we had in the past and i think it's solid. lou: you and i argued this for years. >> about 10 years. lou: and we haven't declared a winner yet. the truth is, to me this is less
12:23 am
doctrine or strategy than it is rationalization. the result is another year engagement and conflict. and at some point the hard decision has to be made. it seems to me the most advanced super power in the world should be able to assert itself through that telling and advanced weaponry rather than boots on the ground. that's where i will leave that and as for your conclusions on afghanistan as we wrap up. >> we have peace negotiations going on. they will be difficult to say the least. the and * national security -- the afghanistan national security forces have gone through a lot of reform. we have a government in place. it's not perfect. but the taliban is sitting on the other side of the table. they have one motivation, to get the united states to leave so they can take over.
12:24 am
it makes sense to try. i'm not saying we shouldn't try. but we have to keep our eyes wide open as we are dealing with the taliban on the other side of the table. lou: congratulations again on your much-deserved medal of freedom. general jack keane. share your comments and follow me on twitter @loudobbs, like me on facebook and follow me on instagram @loudobbstonight. tom fitton and sidney powell among our guests monday. we hope you will be with us. one republican lawmaker says attorney general william barr isn't telling the truth about why pfizer would be reauthorized. we take it up with john solomon next. while the world keeps fighting for your attention.
