challenged long before now. he have will be challenged again in this debate. elizabeth: okay. governor, great to see you come back soon. i'm elizabeth macdonald. you've been watching the evening educate on fox business. that does it for us. thanks for watching. stay with us tomorrow night. we'll have a o lot of headlines for you ♪ lou: good evening, everybody. as we begin this week, the body count may be rising from this weekend's violence. dozens of people were shot. at last count that number, 27 people killed by gunfire over the weekend. radical dems had their way in many of the country's largest cities as fundamental transformation that the left sought in the obama era seems now underway in those cities. democrat leaders condoning the mayhem that's overtaking their streets and neighborhoods, sanctioning the violence by effectively restraining law enforcement, and in some cases,

taking away police protective gear and nonlethal weapons. or at least trying to. anarchists, left-wing activists this weekend attacked law enforcement officers as they seem to do every weekend now. they tried to destroy federal buildings and local police precinctings. dozens of people were shot. violent mobs attacked law enforcement officers all across the country. and lawless activists rioted in at least a half dozen cities. much of the weekend's violence once again concentrated in the pacific northwest where thousands gathered overnight outside the federal courthouse in portland. there radical antifa anarchists, black lives matter activists started fires near the federal courthouse before agents fired tear gas against them to disperse the crowd. disburse the crowd. the trump administration ordered 150 more federal agents into portland to protect the federal

building and those law enforcement officers who are under siege. the city's radical dem leadership continues to escalate their war against their own citizens and common sense. and common decency. calling for the feds to remove that protective fence that helps to defend the courthouse. one deputy u.s. marshal guarding the courthouse described that fence as the only barrier between federal officers and the violent mobs. in an interview i with the ap saying, quote: on the other side of that fence are people who want to kill you because of the job we chose to do and what we represent. i can't walk outside without being in fear for my life. portland are's 60th -- portland's 60th straight night of violence punctuated by the police discovery of a backpack filled with ammunition and molotov cocktails. police arrested two people near

where that bag was discovered. police were at the scene after receiving reports of gunfire. many of the groups driving the violence in portland asking people around the country to protest in solidarity with them. this weekend that call was answered early in seattle where police declared a riot saturday night after five construction trailers were torched, numerous stores were vandalized. reports that antifa has distributed a list of businesses in seattle to target including starbucks and amazon, two of the better known corporations that support black lives matter. body camera video shows officers being hit with fireworks, mortars, rocks, bottles, you name it. the seattle police department says 59 of their officers were hurt. one had to be hospitalized, but that seems to be just fine with their mayor, the city council and the people of seattle who

are tolerating all of this violence. police say they won't tolerate any more of this violence, but protesters say, yes, they will, that the protesters aren't going anywhere. >> the protests are not over. nothing has been achieved yet. just because we have a majority ruling of council members that say they're going to support defunding the police doesn't mean it's going to happen. lou: top democrats in washington back the actions of left-wing militia mobs like antifa. just listen to jerry nadler as he tried to make his way to his car, asked this weekend to disavow the democrat-inspired violence. >> there's violence in the whole country -- [inaudible] antifa? that's happening in portland right now? >> that's only in washington, d.c -- >> and even in portland?

[background sounds] finish. lou: semiscenes of anarchy -- similar scenes of anarchy that mr. nadler wants to ignore unfolded this weekend in oakland where hundreds of rioters smashed windows at the city's police headquarters and set fire to the alameda county courthouse. in los angeles mobs there using similar tactics. they vandalized a federal courthouse downtown before facing off against police officers defending city hall. an armed militia group by the name of the acronym nfac -- the f in that name, by the way, is both obvious and obscene -- they held a rally in louisville, kentucky. their rally, so-called, their protest was delayed because one of their nfac members shot and wounded three of his fellow members of his ineptly-named group. they were shot, it is reported, while inspecting their guns.

we can't confirm that that group is now looking for a new, more appropriate name. it was another deadly weekend on the streets of chicago. police reporting 59 people shot in 39 different shooting incidents. three of them killed. although the feds are now in chicago, radical dem mayor lori lightfoot is arguably either indifferent to the plight of her citizens under her leadership or simply helpless and confused and inept. >> we can't just allow anyone to come into chicago, play police in our streets, in our neighborhoods when they don't know the first thing about our city. lou: how much does she know when her citizens are being slaughtered? mayor lightfoot is seemingly more concerned about the feds' presence which she says is the

problem rather than the solution. rather than focusing on the violence tearing apart mostly black neighborhoods in her city. it's outrageous. chicago's murder rate is up a staggering 73% compared to last year. elsewhere across the country the murder rate is also soaring, rising 85% in minneapolis, 46% higher in new orleans, 37% higher in houston, up 24% in new york. joining us tonight, larry elder. he's the host of the larry elder show on the salem radio network, also the executive producer of the number one documentary in the world, "uncle tom." it's an oral history of the american black conservative. good to have you with us. larry, i've got to start with lori lightfoot. and the people -- ted wheeler in portland trying to blame the people who are trying to restore

order and enforce law in their communities that they refuse to do. he is -- >> right. lou: -- are their constituents so dumb that they can push this kind of disinformation to the gullible and get away with it? >> well, the majority of their constituents do not believe in this kind of violence, do not believe in burning up neighborhoods because of the death of george floyd. speaking of whom, i thought this was about the death of george floyd? the data do not show that the police are killing black people just because they're black. a recent interview, data does not show police are killing black people just because they're black. they're tearing up neighborhoods based upon a false premise. now, the reason the democrats don't say anything is because the rioters are advancing a favorite narrative of theirs which is that blacks remain plagued by institutional, systemic structural racism by the police departments, and they need to push that narrative because as long as they get

black people thinking about police brutality and not about schools, not about crime, not about economic empowerment, they can be guaranteed to get that 95% monolith aric black vote without which the democratic party cannot win at the presidential level. so the rioters are advancing in areas that they are pushing the voters. never mind it's false, it gets them votes, and that's what they're all about. lou: is it your sense at this time the left has miscalculated that they have gone so far to the left idealogically, they have gone to the point of anarchy and in permitting this kind of violence in their cities, city after city in this country, those -- they forget those people that they are supposed to be representing and serving are decent human beings who are being torn to pieces by this violence and who are having every, every part of their lives effectively devastated whether, as you say, it's education.

they can't even get to church some days. >> right. lou: it's absurd to think that this is an effective political strategy that can occur without a significant, tremendous backlash that will amount to a tremendous defeat against their nominee, joe biden. >> well, one would hope. but you till look at the polls. i'm in california. we've got a left-wing governor, as you well know. he remains popular. no evidence i can see that the mayor in chicago is suffering in the polls. but i do believe that they are miscalculating. i think there's a large number of people who are ticked off about what's going on. maybe they're not telling the media or the pollsters, but i believe people feel the number one responsibility of government is to protect people and property, and it's not happening. lou: let's take a look at what is happening, whether it's ted wheeler in portland, lori lightfoot in chicago. this from ted wheeler. this is the mayor's letter. as he describes the federal

presence there targeting and occupation of progressive e cities is unacceptable, un-american and unconstitutional. more over, these federal agents are not trained in modern community policing crowd control or deescalation strategies. i mean, that's just bizarrely ironic and, frankly, just stupid on the part of wheeler. i mean, he looks like a complete clown in everything he's doing. if they had any training at all in his city, he would be disbanding the police department altogether, is the uptake on that. >> well, it's insane. and this mayor, by the way, is in a re-election race, and his opponent more left wing than he is. the opponent wants to defund the police altogether, so don't expect this crazy mayor to be toppled anytime soon because his opponent is even worse. lou: and the citizenry of

of the -- or any of the obamagate actors have been prosecuted. graham has only interviewed rod rosenstein, and john durham has yet to wrap up his investigation and file charges. what is lindsey graham doing? legal scholar jonathan turley this weekend laid into the national left-wing media for their complicity in ignoring the obama administration and its use of a security briefing to spy on the 2016 trump campaign. it's astonishing that the national media refuses to see what is one of the biggest stories in decades. they are refusing to look at the reality, and they are, in point of fact, a major part of the cover-up, in my opinion. professor turley redose on to say the -- goes on to say the obama administration targeted the campaign of the posing party based on false evidence. willful blameless has its

flynn because he would have quickly discovered everything that they had been doing, all the illegal surveillance they'd done, all the laws they'd broken. he would have tracked down the entire operation. plus he was going to audit the intel agencies and downsize everything. but remember the timeline. they opened crossfire hurricane on july 31st of 2016. then on august 15, strzok and page are texting about the insurance policy they discussed in mccabe's office. the very next day they open the file on flynn, and the day after that they sent agent pientka into what was supposed to have been a trusted presidential briefing to spy on flynn and president trump who were. two of the only three people who were there. lou: it's astonishing. and, by the way, for this to just now be coming out about that, that intel briefing is, to me, it's just mind-boggling that these things keep trickling out.

the more and more of it we learnis at the slowest pace possible, and it is absolutely maddening that the american people are putting up with this, to me. >> well, the existence of that briefing and the fact that it was held and pientka used it to spy on the president was actually revealed in the inspector general's report of december 2019. but the fact, the report of it that agent pientka did has only just been declassified. lou: and agent pientka, do we know how he's been so successfully hidden in the context he can provide has been so effectively, well, gagged? >> he is still with the fbi, as i understand it. when people learned he was in san francisco, they moved him somewhere else. so he has been well protected by the fbi. lou: should wray be indicted for covering all of this up?

have amicus briefs, that he could insist on having his own prosecution? this is nuts. does the judiciary understand they look like they're complicit in all of the political corruption of this government and the obama white house? i mean, do they understand that? >> given the briefs that we filed last monday and that the government filed too which effectively drop-kicked judge sullivan into another country, the court should certainly understand that he has no position here whatsoever, and the rehearing petition must be denied. the whole process at this point has started to impugn the integrity of the court, and it's important for the article iii judiciary to stand up and enforce the rule of law as they know it exists. lou: let me be clear, at least for myself, i think the judiciary right now is a rotten,

judicial watch. and, tom -- well, tom has a new book coming out this summer. the book is "a republic under assault: the left's ongoing attack on freedom" available for preorder right this very minute. maybe a couple of moments later. good to have you with us, tom. let's start with the president's tweet talking about online voting, mail-in voting. this is -- i don't get the sense that the republican party is doing a thing about assuring the integrity of this election. there should be, you know, to me, a lot of volunteers at every polling both in the country. your reaction to what's being with done. >> well, i think both democrats and republicans should be nervous about the election. we have 43 million ballots according to "the washington post" that are going to be automatically e-mailed. in new york they have been swamped with ballots, many of

which they were unable to count meaning they were invalidated because they were not properly cast. if you want your vote to count, you should go and vote in person. that should be the message from republicans and democrats. this vote-by-mail scheme, obviously -- lou: tom, i -- >> -- obviously, the left wanted it because of the opportunities for fraud, in my view. but in the end, people may not vote by mail, and they may not vote in person which would be a disaster for all parties. lou: well, i -- you're concerned about the democrats, i find that surprising because it's the democrats who want to have mail-in voting. it's pretty clear why they do and what they have done so far and every instance of voter fraud that i'm aware of has been democratically crafted, up spired and led -- inspired and led. so i'm not so worried about that as i am the fact that the republican party once again looks like a party that's just ripe for getting rolled. and i don't see energy behind

it, i don't see any imagination, i don't see any statement whatsoever about what the republican party doing to assure an election with integrity and security. and, by god, i'm so tired of hearing strong letter to follow from -- [laughter] the republicans whether it's on capitol hill or whether it's in their local chapters. this is a, this is a real cry us that the president -- crisis that the president is focusing on. >> well, the parties filed a lawsuit here and there, and you point out the justice department, i know we've been filing lawsuits both in north carolina and pennsylvania to clean up the rolls under federal law. we're doing the enforcement of the law, not the justice department. they've been completely awol. two million names extra that it looks like both in north carolina and pennsylvania. millions across the country. many republican elected officials have bought into this coronavirus madness and have

started -- lou: you're not making me feel better. >> no, it's a serious issue and, you know, when i say democrats and republicans, i mean voters. people deserve to have their vote counted, and they're being sold this mail-in ballot scam that, in my view, could cause chaos on election day. look, there's primaries in new york a month -- lou: what can we do about it? i mean, we know this. we -- the president has been talking about it. we know about it. now it's time, you know, it's like a commercial. we don't do anything about bank robberies, we just monitor them. i mean, my god, when are people going to actually do something? republicans are starting to scare me as a do-nothing party. they've got a lot of talk, people talking about strong letters, even lawsuits, tom, with all respect. and i mean right now this is a political moment. that means people have got to be, as you say, voting in person. but they've also got to be securing those voting places.

>> well, that's true. the justice department take immediate steps to make sure the rolls are cleaned so that dirty names aren't being mailed. they can secure voting places, they can provide -- lord forbid, provide money to make sure they're properly staffed on election day. and right now though in many ways the train has left the station in terms of mail-in voting. it ain't gonna be pretty, because as people have pointed out in new york, it's been a train wreck in that primary up there where you had tens of thousands of votes being thrown out potentially. lou: let me very quickly go to lindsey graham. rod rosenstein, he brought in, won't talk to president obama, hillary clinton. but meanwhile, says that the fbi's been lying through their teeth. who does he think organized that, supervised it and inspired obamagate? does the name give him, like, a hint or anything? or is he so obtuse that that is

imperceptible? >> yeah, he clearly doesn't want to pick that fight. he ought to. biden as well, mrs. clinton, her lawyers. look, durham -- it's reported in "the new york times" today -- hasn't even talked to the primary source of the dossier. the guy who -- lou: i'm sorry. say that again? >> durham has yet to talk, according to the dossier's sources' lawyer to the key source of the dossier. lou: tom fitton, as always, you know, just ine deny inspiring us like the dickens this with optimism. lou: new york governor andrew cuomo s running from responsibility, saying the media is responsible for reporting on the china virus deaths in new york nursing homes. listen to this. >> i don't believe your characterization is correct, i believe it is a political issue. i think it's "the new york post," and i i think it's

michael goodwin, i think it's bob mcmanus, i think it's fox tv. i think it is all politically motivated. if anybody looked at the facts, they would know that it was wholly absurd on its face. lou: well, joining me now, former reagan with white house political director, fox business political analyst, ed roll hintz, pulitzer prize-winning columnist for the post, michael goodwin. michael, let's start with you since the governor named you. i find it hard to believe that he is i trying to avoid responsibility for one of the most callous and lethal decisions of his political career. >> yes, lou, it is remarkable. he has blamed not only myself and colleagues at "the new york post," he's blamed the "wall street journal," he's blaming fox, he's blamed the workers in the nursing home facilities for

bringing the virus in and, of course, he's blamed god and donald trump. the truth is that these facilities were doing pretty well, the nursing homes, until he mandated that they take, actively stick patients if hospitals -- from hospitals who had coronavirus. he wouldn't even let them test the incoming patients. and it, it is obviously the most foolish things you could do among an elderly, vulnerable population. but he did it, and governors of some other states did it, and that's why roughly 40% of the dead are from nursing homes across the country. and new york, the number is at least 6500 dead in the nursing homes, and it could be as many as 12,000. because they fudged the numbers once it became an issue. so this is an extraordinary development, and it's almost comical the way cuomo is behaving, but there's nothing funny about what really happened

this those nursing homes. lou: what is comical, looking at what a state like new york has produced in the way of leadership when you look at de blasio running the city and cuomo running the state. it is, it is such a clownish affair that it is, as you point out, if it weren't so tragic what this governor did for so many people. and for him to shirk blame as he always does and responsibility is obscene. ed, i want to turn to you. the president looking pretty good right now. these latest polls, i looked at three recent polls that shows his intensity. he's running well ahead of biden. his voters are more excited. maybe a half, just about half of those surveyed believe that biden would be a strong leader while the president's approval and support support is as a strong and effective leader is running around 75, 76%.
