failed to do so. rnc chair ronna mcdaniel and rudy giuliani among our guests tomorrow. my new book, "the trump century," how the president changed the course of history, available at preorder at amazon.cosee you tomorrow. good night from sussex. president trump: leading democrats like in new york or in portland. we made arrests in kansas city, chicago, cleveland, detroit, milwaukee, st. louis, memphis, albuquerque. for many violent crimes including gun crimes and arson and 91 murders. we're using the full power of the federal government to defeat as you know the china virus. new cases have declined in 80% of the jurisdictions in the past week, 80%. new zealand by the way had a big
8:01 pm
outbreak. other countries that were held up to try to make us look not as good as we should look because we've done an incredible job but they're having a lot of outbreaks, they will be able to put them out and we put them out. the hospitalization has fallen in our country 54% since the peak in april. 54%. older americans are still the most vulnerable to the virus. 92% of deaths have occurred among those 55 and older. only 2.7% of deaths have occurred among those 44 years, think of that, 44 years and younger. so 44 years old and younger, only 2.7% of deaths have occurred. and many of those people had preexisting conditions. they had problems, heart, diabetes and other problems but
8:02 pm
many of those. so think of that. only 2.7% under 44 years of age. excess mortality in europe this year is 33% higher than the united states. evidence that the tragic costs of this virus is higher in other western nations. south korea, you've been reading about south korea doing well. they just had a very big break out but they will be able to solve the problem. we must all remain vigilant and continue to exercise extreme caution around those at highest risk as we know. multiple colleges and universities announced that they would suspend in-person teaching. we have learned one thing, there is nothing like campus. there is nothing like being with a teacher as opposed to being on a computer board. it's been proven, a lot better. it is a lot better.
8:03 pm
the ipads are wonderful but you're not going to learn the same way you do by being there. so nevertheless certain colleges and universities have announced they would suspend the in-person teaching. for older people and individuals with underlying conditions the china virus is very dangerous but for university students likelihood of severe illness is rest than equal to the risk of a seasonal few. seasonal flu. and the seasonal flu happens and comes and it goes and can be very bad but people don't talk about in the same way. they shouldn't but if you look at that the odds are less than or equal to. instead of saving lives the decision to close universities could cost lives. it is significantly safer for students to live with other young people than to go home
8:04 pm
than spread the virus to older americans. makes sense. and the shutdown thing is causing tremendous depression for those places that are still shut down. you look at certain areas that in all cases democrat-run. still shut down. and numbers there aren't even good. but causing tremendous depression, suicide, drugs, alcohol, abuse. a lot of problems are being caused. probably far more, i would say, scott, than is caused by the virus itself now that we understand the virus. colleges should take reasonable precautions. students who feel sick should not taken class and should limit social interaction as they would for any other illness. universities should implement
8:05 pm
measures to protect the high high-risk students professors and teachers. the ultimate goal of testing is to prevent transmission in high-risk settings and to prevent transmission period but especially in nursing homes and to care for the vulnerable and our elderly which really fit into that definition of who is vulnerable. we have tremendous unused testing capacity in our country. we have a tremendous unused testing capacity. it its something that a lot of other nations are very impressed with they tell us. in our path forward we will continue to follow science-based approach to protecting the high-risk while enabling healthy americans to safely to back to work and school. our country will be open. our country is getting open quickly. our stock markets are almost back to where they were prior to
8:06 pm
the china virus disaster coming in and i want to thank you y'all for being here and we'll take some questions. yeah, please. reporter: during the pandemic the qanon movement appears to get a lot of followers. can you talk about what you think about that? what you have to say to people who are following this movement right now. president trump: i don't know much about the movement other than i understand they like me very much which i appreciate. i don't know much about the movement. i have heard it is gaining in popularity. from what i hear, these are people, when they watch the streets of portland, when they watch what happened in new york city in the last six or seven months, but this was starting even four years ago when i came here, almost four years, can you believe it? these are people that don't like seeing what is going on in places like portland and places
8:07 pm
like chicago and new york and other cities and states. and i've heard these are people that love our country, they just don't like seeing it. i don't know really anything about it other than they do supposedly like me and they also would like to see problems in these areas like especially areas we're talking about go away because there is no reason the democrats can't run a city. if they can't, we will send in all of the federal whether it is troops or law enforcement, whatever they would like, we'll send them in. straighten out their problem in 24 hours or less. okay? reporter: theory -- that you are secretly saving the world from this satanic consult of pedophiles and can can can
8:08 pm
cannibalsis. president trump: i heard about that. if i save the world from problems, i'm willing to do it, and i will put myself out there. we are, saving the world from a radical left philosophy that will destroy this country. and this country has gone, the rest of the world would follow. the rest of the world would follow. that is the importance of this country. when you look at some of the things that these people are saying with defund the police, and no borders, open border, everybody just pour right into our country, no testing, no nothing. you talk about testing. no testing. mexico as you know has very high rate of infection. the wall is next week going to be 300 miles long. our numbers are extraordinary on the border. had that, this is through luck perhaps more than talent
8:09 pm
although the talent is getting it built when one party refuses to allow it. you don't hear talk about the wall anymore. but i will say this, we need strength in our country, not weakness. too much weakness. yes. reporter: mr. president, you have been very bullish on the promise of convalescent plasma to treat coronavirus. the fda appeared to be on the brink of issuing a emergency use authorization of convalescent plasma. but after hearing from top officials from the nih there wasn't enough evidence to go ahead with that the fda put that on pause. your reaction to that and do you believe convalescent plasma should be in the arsenal of treatments? president trump: i hear good things, john. it could be a political decision. you have a lot of people don't want to rush things because they want to do it after november 3rd. you've heard that one before. but i have heard fantastic things about convalescent plasma
8:10 pm
and i've heard numbers way over 50% success. and people are dying. we should have it approved if it is good. i'm hearing it is good. i heard from people at the fda that it is good. we'll see. i will check that right after this conference. reporter: my understanding that the white house will encourage the nih and the fda to get this out there as quickly as possible? president trump: if the numbers are good as i'm hearing, i hear the numbers are over 50% and that's good. we approved things at 31%. that's okay too. that is not bad. really had a tremendous impact but no, i have, you're telling me something right now that surprises me but we'll check it out right after this. reporter: are you concerned about a delay? president trump: i don't want delays. i don't want people dying. i don't want people dying. yeah, please. reporter: mr. president i want to ask you about your tweet earlier today about goodyear. essentially call for boycott on
8:11 pm
goodyear tires. do you want the federal government buying and using goodyear products? president trump: i don't like goodyear, the people that work for goodyear, i guaranty you i poll well with great workers at goodyear, when they say you can't have blue lives matter, you can't show a blue line, can't wear a maga hat but can have other things marxist in nature, there is something wrong with the top of goodyear and what the radical left does, is they make it impossible for people to do business if they're republican or if they're conservative. they put out all sorts of efforts, don't shop there they do vicious things, not so different than what you saw in the streets of portland two nights ago. reporter: what kind of boycott do you envision? president trump: that is up to people. i wouldn't recommend it. if they want to hold political speech, if they want to let you
8:12 pm
not do what everybody is doing. they want to wear a maga hat or if they want to wear a blue lives, you know what blue lives matter, right? that is policemen and women. that is a terrible thing. that is a terrible thing. so they are using their power over these people. these people want to wear whatever it is we're talking about, you know that and so i would be very much in favor of people don't want to buy there. you know what? they will be get a good job. we set a jobs record over the last quarter as you know. the most jobs ever in the history of our country. you will be able to get another good job. i think it is disgraceful that they did this. please, go ahead. reporter: mr. president, you said that the arrest of jimmy lai in hong kong is terrible thing. do you have a message for jimmy lai? has the administration spoken directly to him? is is the state department
8:13 pm
working for his release. president trump: i sent him a message, he is certainly a brave man. i sent him best wishes. with what has happened in hong kong, we've taken all the vast amounts of money we used to subsidize hong kong. we essentially subsidized hong kong by giving them all sorts of incentives and that is what made hong kong exchange and business in hong kong successful. i've taken it all back. that means that the united states is going to do a lot more business. you know, we, we really gave them tremendous incentive an subsidy in order that they be successful for freedom. but now that the freedom obviously seems to have been taken away, we will keep all of the incentives that we were giving them, which is billions and billions of dollars and all of that business will come into our country including the new york stock exchange and nasdaq and, it will all come here. but i feel badly for them
8:14 pm
because i hear he is a good person. i don't know him. i hear is a good person obviously. a very brave person. did you have something? reporter: yes, thank you, mr. president. prime minister coming in tomorrow what about -- president trump: say it. reporter: iraqi prime minister is coming in tomorrow to meet with you, how do you feel about the notion that iraq can once again become the buffer between iranian influence and russian influence in the middle east? do you feel that under this prime minister that is possible once again? what are your thoughts on that? president trump: this is a man we get along very well. we're largely out of iraq. we're down to a few soldiers. we're getting out of these ridiculous endless wars. we should never been there in the first place. the worst decision ever made in the history of our country. the middle east we shouldn't have been. we're getting out rapidly over the course of three years. getting out, it is very sticky getting out.
8:15 pm
some people agree and many people don't agree but i think most people are very much agree. we're doing very well in our negotiations with afghanistan with getting out. we're down to much smaller number of people left there. and you know, i greet men and women coming home and coming home after they have been hit. i have also greeted many, many at dover, greeted bombed did is come -- bodies coming back in. we're been there 19 years. we're basically policemen. we're acting as police as opposed to soldiers. they will have to police their own states. they have been doing that for thousands of years. but it is time after 19 years that our soldiers come home. they have done an incredible job. but you know, they don't, they're not allowed to fight to win and maybe they shouldn't be. a lot of the people, not their fault but with the tall taliban
8:16 pm
and going to iraq and we're down in afghanistan, very low numbers and that will be taking place and i let them know, do anything, and you will be hit like you have never been hit before. so we're, we're doing very well. syria, the same thing. remember when i took all of the soldiers off of the border between syria and turkey, right? everybody said, oh, that was two years ago, a long time ago. oh, they said this is terrible, terrible, terrible. we're going to leave -- why do we have our soldiers between syria and turkey? turkey can definitely take care of itself. i have a very good relationship with president erdogan. syria has been fighting forever. i say why are we guarding their border? i brought our soldiers back home. i got them out. guess what? nothing's happened. they have been fighting like they have been for a thousand years. okay? nothing's happened. nobody mentions that. everybody said this is going to be a disaster. there is no disaster. nothing's happened.
8:17 pm
and so we're getting out of the enless wars and we are building a military the likes of which the world has never seen. 2 1/2 trillion dollars we've spent and we hopefully don't ever have to use it but we want to focus on a much bigger picture because we have a much bigger picture. it's, when you look at what china is doing. when you look at what russia is doing. when you hook at what some other countries are doing, we want to be ready just in case there is a catastrophe. we don't want to see that we don't want to ever use it. we've rebuilt our military. new missiles, new rockets and new tanks and new everything. new everything. 2 1/2 trillion all made in the usa. we've upgraded incredibly our nuclear capability and some of our nuclear needed nourishment. it needed new strength and we've, we've upgraded it very, very significantly. i mean to a level that nobody
8:18 pm
would even believe. hopefully we don't, you pray to god we never have to use it. okay? we've never been in a position where we've been this strong. please. reporter: mr. president, thank you so much. i wanted to ask you about the middle east. i have a couple questions. you mentioned that other countries are interested in following suit. president trump: yes. having to do with u.a.e. and israel. reporter: exactly. do you expect that saudi arabia will join and have yet and also emiratis expressed into in the f-35. is that something they could looks forward to in the future? president trump: look, they have definitely got the money to pay for it. it is nice, a lot of times we make deal we don't have 10 cents, these countries we deal with. we give them, how about paying this back later because they never pay because they don't have the money. they have the money and they would like to order quite a few

f-35s. it is greatest fighter jet in the world, stealth, totally stealth, can't see it. makes it very difficult, i asking a pilot, what do you think better this one, this one, russian planes, chinese planes? he said well the advantage you have you can't see it. when we're fighting they can't see us. i said that sounds like a really big advantage to me. reporter: want them to have it? president trump: by the way i said to the pilots that i meet, they look better than tom cruise and they're definitely tougher. and he is a nice guy but these people are amazing. i speak to them a lot about it. what do you think? as i go around to the various places. i say the big one in florida as an example. that was a big one. knocked down pretty much by the hurricane. so i spent a lot of time on that. and it is the greatest plane in the world. one thing about that kind of
8:20 pm
thing, technology, high technology, greatest plane doesn't last long. somebody comes up with something else. we're always the one to come up with something else. they would like to buy f-35s. we'll see what happens. it is under review but they made a great, a great advance in peace in the middle east. even "the new york times" thought it was an incredible deal, can you imagine that? tom friedman had a very nice thing to say about us. i spoke to him about it. he thought it was terrific. it is terrific. i see a lot of countries coming in fairly quickly. when you have them all in, ultimately iran will come in too. there will be peace in the middle east that will be nice. iran will be very much neutralized. they never thought this could have happened. with the horrendously stupid iran deal signed by obama, this could have never happened. reporter: on the goodyear issue,

you ride on goodyear tires in the presidential limousine. president trump: correct. reporter: if there is alternative would you want them tires swapped out? president trump: i would, based on what i heard. we'll see what happens. you have a lot of people not wanting the product anymore. they will buy from a competitor, made in the usa too. okay, please. reporter: mr. president, exsent from obama's speech he will give later at democratic convention, hopes you would taking president more seriously once you have the job discover reference for democracy quote, but he never did. what is your reaction? president trump: when i listen to that, and i see the horror that he left us, the stupidity of the transactions that he made, look what we're doing. we have our great border wall. we have security. we have the u.a.e. deal which has been universally praised, praised by people that aren't

exactly fans of donald trump for various reasons. i don't know, can't be my personality but they're not fans, right. when i look at what we have, now look how bad he was. how ineffective of a president he was. he was so ineffective, so terrible. slowest growing recovery in the history, i guess since 1929 on the economy. don't forget until the china virus came in we had the greatest economy in the history of the world. now we're doing it again. i'm going to have to do it a second time. we're doing it again. hard to believe we're doing very well. you heard the numbers. they're way, way down on the virus but when you look at the kind of numbers that we're producing on the stock markets. we're almost at the level, in fact nasdaq and s&p are higher than they were at the highest point prior to the china virus coming in. the plague coming in. now president obama did not do a good job and the reason i'm here
8:23 pm
is because of president obama and joe biden. because if they did a good job i wouldn't be here. probably if they did a good job i wouldn't have even run. i would have been very happy. i enjoyed my previous life very much but they did such a bad job that i stand before you as president. thank you all very much. [reporters shouting questions] david: of course that is president trump wrapping up a news conference at the white house. hi, everybody, i'm david asman in for elizabeth macdonald and this is "the evening edit." you really heard it all tonight from what's happening in our city streets, the rise in violence across america. to china, to isis, even to zombies. one of the strangest questions i ever heard coming from the white house press briefing which was president trump, do you believe in zombies? for the record he didn't mention exactly whether he did or not but said he would be, nothing
8:24 pm
wrong with being against zombies. it was an extraordinary conference getting so much in so little time. it seemed to be a point by point refutation what we've been hearing at the democratic convention, the virtual democratic convention that has been going on. a specific point on foreign policy. john kerry of course has night, former secretary of state under president obama, was bragging about the success of the obama administration on china. what he said defeating isis, according to john kerry. iran, iranian deal which the president again point by point refuted, saying that in fact it was the trump administration that defeated isis and obama administration at that brought it to the fore calling them the jv team. a lot of issues to go over but we begin tonight in the state of california where the data on homicides and homelessness in some big cities is really
8:25 pm
stagger now. in los angeles homicides are up 32% last year. homelessness increased by 13%. san francisco has seen a 31% increase in homicide. the homeless population has grown 17% in sacramento. homelessness is up 55%. homicide up 28%. all three cities by the way run by democrat mayors, a point emphasized by the president in his press briefing just now. governor gavin newsom is also a democrat. now california is a big blue state but could what's happening there spark a change in down ballot races as more and more voters get fed up with safety issues and the deterioration of life and quality of life in their state? let's talk about all this with former california republican party chairman tom dell vacarro. tom, thanks for joining us. i think of the movie network,
8:26 pm
the guy goes in front of the camera, i'm mad as hell, i can't take it anymore. you have to raise your window, and scream it out, suddenly everybody is screaming i'm mad as hell. i sense that is where californians are. am i wrong? >> no, it is developing. we have recall petition for over 200,000 people already signed. there will be a record number of people signing that petition. these cities are becoming ghost towns. like my daughter went to san francisco because it was a charming place. now it's a place of homeless, drug activity and some contractors working but basically desolate. you asked the question, will that spread? look, if you have policies where you overtax people and you don't provide them with electricity or water or public safety, they're going to leave those areas. that is why california has led the nation with people leaving the state for better environs.
8:27 pm
david: i live in new york. specifically i live in the upper west side of new york, which is about as close you can get to california on this side of the coast, this side of the nation, we too, even the most liberal fans i have on the upper west side are beginning to think twice about voting democrat this time because they have seen what's happened to the city under de blasio. they have seen what happened to the state under governor cuomo. they see what has happened to their weekly paychecks that keep getting more and more eaten up by taxes. >> yeah, absolutely, david. remember new york under david dinkins we were shrugging our shoulders if new york was governable. turned out it came in with somebody with governable policies and didn't -- run amok. you saw portland, today, fox business covered the story of big employer leaving. it is too dangerous there.
8:28 pm
california, high taxes, the debt, employers are going like tesla to other places f you elect joe biden with the high-taxed policies, you see money leaving the united states. money goes where it is welcome and california right now, why would you start a business here? they're talking about a wealth tax, david. that is the dumbest then you can do is tax someone's savings. they say i don't need to be here. i will go somewhere else. david: we'll talk about that later in the show, with andy us puzder, whether they will advocate one with the party platform. at least governor cuomo seems to be aware that 50% of the tax revenue in new york comes from the 1% of the richest new yorkers. and it doesn't take many of them to leave before the state is in complete bankruptcy. doesn't the governor of california realize the same? >> not yet. remember, it is not just taxing them. if they don't start up businesses in your state they
8:29 pm
take those jobs with them and those people don't get to work and pay taxes in the state. so it is not just taxing, i know you know this, not just taxing the person with the money. it is stopping the person with the money from opening up jobs. in california they still don't have that message. remember, gavin newsom wants to be president in 2024. so he is still towing the far left line. david: will still be a blue state in terms of presidency voting for the president but a lot of cities and state around the country may change to red as a result of what is happening on our city streets. tom, thank you very much for coming in. tom del beccarro. thanks very much. rioting, protests raging in democrat-run cities all over the u.s. you would never know it from watching the democratic convention. portland, businesses are fleeing. texas, they're saying enough is enough. promising to punish cities that
