departments, but yesterday he denied ever wanting to defund police. sounds like al sharpton here. and then amazingly claimed president trump actually wants to defund. these are just a few. well, joining us tonight is "just the news" editor-in-chief john solomon. author of "fallout: nuclear bribes, russian spies and the washington lies that enriched the clinton and biden dynasties." and we recommend it to you highly, of course. john solomon, good to have you with us on the broadcast. >> good to be with you. lou: i want to start with a journalistic discussion, if i may, when i get to talk to editor-in-chief, i want to get -- [laughter] a straight shot at what is going on with unnamed sources and then using unnamed sources to corroborate unnamed sources and holding that up to be a legitimate report about the president of the united states.

something has gone awfully wrong in journalism. >> no, and you said it right, lou. listen, too many times today the national media that 20 years ago really did e do their job. but it's eroded tremendously. they act more like a political action committee promoting the biden democratic ticket than they do as arbiters of neutral truth. and that comes in the form of many things whether it's anonymous stories, the bad stories of russia were just as anonymous and wrong as this story in "the atlantic" this past weekend. and most ironically, you have 21 people on the or record denying the story. you'd think that would be enough for the story to go in reversal but, nope, not in this era of media. we double down on oured bad mistakes, and i think it's bad for the american people, bad for democracy. finish. lou: it's extraordinary. i think people have to really pay close attention as they watch these stories. when the president calls out
5:53 pm
fake news, it is precisely that. >> yep. lou: this is not, this is not a standard that any legitimate journalist would have ever dreamed would be the standard of conduct within the journalistic community. and for it to go unchallenged by so-called journalistic watchdogs is stunning as well. let's turn to, if we may, to the strzok-mccabe-comey, and mark meadows, the chief of staff, saying there's more to come, and it looks ugly for these three i would call them suspects, to be nice about it. [laughter] >> yeah. their work -- [inaudible] that's for sure. yeah. i think mark meadows is right. i think we're going to see new revelations both in the form of declassification and probably some action by the special prosecutor, john durham. i would look either for an interim report or an interim report combined with one or two

more indictments or criminal charges filed between now and the end of the month. but the pete strzok story, that he was overworked and that's why they messed up the fisa -- [laughter] just are doesn't pass the smell test. not even on a funny holiday weekend, you know? and he wasn't channeled on it. i mean, no one was challenging him. but pete strzok knew exactly what he was doing, he knew his ed was bad, he knew he wasn't meeting the standards for the fisa court. and whether he did it to affecting the election or not, he did affect the election, and we're still paying the price for that three and a half years later. i think all of this attention, all of these spin jobs by comey, mccabe and strzok are nothing more than a prelude to another hammer falling. the picture of the fbi's misconduct9 is only going to get deeper and worse in the next few weeks. lou: and will we, do you believe -- now that we are past labor day, the convention was that charges would not be brought within that 60-day period before the presidential

election. do you think that this will be a moment of necessary breach of that convention. >> >> yeah, i'm not sure. listen, it normally is a prohibition against indicting someone that is involved in the election. finish fbi agents, maybe they weren't in 2016, but they're not supposed to be involved in elections today. i think there's greater latitude for the justice department to bring charges against current fbi officials who are not part of politics, even if it involves the 2016 election. and i would not be surprised if that happens. i think the big thing is account prosecutors convince the grand jury in d.c. to bring these charges. that's the bigger question, and we'll have to wait and see. but i expect more action this month either in the form of a report or additional criminal charges. lou: well, let's hope -- i don't mind the report, but justice requires indictments. >> yeah. lou: john solomon if, thanks for being with us. appreciate it. good to have you here.
