cable television history, the second highest overall ratings for television u.s.. an event that president trump today seemed pleased with with. >> i thought the debate last night was great. we've gotten tremendous reviews on it. we're hitting what people want, law and order which biden was unable to even talk about because they'd lose the radical left, his radical left followers. i don't think there's too many of them left. but i thought it was a great evening. it was an exciting evening. i see the ratings were very high, and it was good to be there, felt very comfortable. and i appreciate all the good words. lou: well, last night's debate was tense and often times rough and tumble. president trump showed americans once again he is a fighter. the president offering razor-sharp criticism of biden. he challenged biden on law and order, questioned his support among the bernie sanders radical

left and, of course, his son hunter's corrupt dealings overseas. >> china ate your lunch, joe, and no wonder. your son goes in, and he takes out, he takes out billions of dollars -- >> no. >> takes out billions of dollars to manage, he makes millions of dollars -- >> simply not true. >> why is it, just out of curiousty, the mayor of moscow's wife gave your son $3.5 million. what did he do to deserve it? you can't even say the words law and order. why don't you say the words law enforcement? >> no, i don't support the green new deal. >> you don't? oh, that's a big statement. >> i said i support the biden plan. >> let me just tell you, joe, i've done more in 47 months, i've done more than you've done in 47 years, joe. lou: throughout that debate, joe biden continuously rolled his

eyes, he made strange faces and was often scoffing at president trump's remarks. his mannerisms of exasperation were reminiscent of a fellow by the name of al gore back in 2000. those presidential debates against former president george w. bush. biden claims he'll restore, by the way, civility and decency, but his conduct last night was hardly exemplary as he hurled disrespectful insuggests and -- insults and calling the president of the united states names. >> i'm not here to call out his names. everybody knows he's a liar. he's a fool. he's putin's puppy, he's racist. the deal, it's hard to get any word in with this clown, excuse me, this person. he never keeps his -- would you shut, man? >> who would listen? >> would you shut up, man? that was really a productive segment, wasn't it?

keep yapping, man. lou: in addition to his insults, biden offered up a host of conspiracy theories, parroting virtually all of the anti-trump hit pieces written by the left-wing national media. if we didn't know better, we'd believe it was all orchestrated by the left are. biden also refused to give a straightforward answer more than once. when asked if he'll allow the radical dems to pack the supreme court with more liberal justices if he's president. >> are you willing to tell the american people tonight whether or not you will support either ending the filibuster or packing the -- >> whatever position i take in that, that'll become the issue. the issue is the american people should speak. you should go out and vote. you're in voting now. vote and let your senators know -- >> are you going to pack the court? >> vote now. >> are you going to pack the

court? >> let your people -- >> he doesn't want to answer the question. >> i'm not going to answer the question. lou: the former vice president making it clear that he doesn't want to be clear on those issues and believes he should get your vote irrespective of what he would do if elected. the left-wing national media has made it clear what they thought of biden's performance. they apparently believe president trump pummeled biden, because they're calling on biden to withdraw from the next two debates and avoid having the american people learn any more about his radical policies, his momentary lapses and those issues about which he refuses to give an answer about his policies. but he's committed to the next two debates against president trump. and the commission on presidential debates, well, they're thinking about making some changes. they want to civilize the debate, they say. but really it appears they want to neutralize the president of the united states.

they announced today they'll be, quote, carefully considering changes to the next two debates in order to maintain order. [laughter] as in stifle president trump, perhaps? last night's debate, the second highest rated in history -- and of those who watched, many said the president won according to some of the instant polls -- mostly hispanic viewers of telemundo preferred president trump's performance, giving him a 66% approval rating, biden only 34%. a wgn news nation poll found 61% of viewers saying president trump won, only 33% thought biden did. c-span viewers voted 53% in favor of president trump, 29% for joe biden. other news outlets that did do some form of polling favored at least slightly biden but, of course, they are not reliable. and a tip of the hat to the

washington post for our "lou dobbs tonight "word of the day, reliable. i love the word. which means consistently good in quality, performance or to be trusted. "the washington post" said the only reliable polls are the ones that show biden winning. we disagree, of course. fired fbi director james comey today testified before the senate judiciary committee. comey answered questions about the fbi's corrupt efforts to bring down president trump. throughout the questioning, comey appeared hell bent on shedding any responsibility for using the phony steele dossier as a predicate to lie to the fisa court and thereby spy on the trump campaign. chairman senator lindsey graham and other republicans grew increasingly agitated throughout the comey hearing as comey appeared to forget about most of his time as the leader of the

fbi. >> i don't remember. i only know what i've read in the public record. i don't know specifically. i don't know the answer. >> well finish. >> i don't remember learning anything additional about steele's sources. not that i recall, no. i don't recall being informed of that. i don't remember being told anything like that. i don't remember anything about interviews of the subsource. because i don't agree with your predicate to the question, i can't answer that. lou: quite a conspirator, isn't he? but he is reliable. he he forgets just about everything for which he has great responsibility. the topic of newly-declassified information from the director of national intelligence, john ratcliffe, also was raised today. that information, well, it alleges hillary clinton was the one who hatched the plan to tie president trump to a, well, a

phony russia hacking of the dnc and the conspiracy that followed. take a listen to this exchange between comey and senator graham. >> you've got a letter now from ratcliffe saying that there was -- they intercepted information about an effort in july where hillary clinton approved an effort to link trump to russia, the mob. did you have an investigation look and see whether that was true? >> i can't answer that. i've read mr. ratcliffe's letter which, frankly, i have trouble understanding. >> so what kind of system do we have? we look at all things trump all the time, and when we get exculpatory evidence, we keep looking. when we're told it's not reliable, we keep using it. and when there's suggestions that the other side may be up to no good, we just ignore it. lou: our first guest tonight also questioning the fired fbi director whose mental impairment

was on surprising display today. joining us now is senator marsha blackburn. senator, great to have you with us. you didn't seem more than at one point very pleased with james comey's responses. >> you know, when there is an oval office meeting that takes place on january 5th and he can't recall who put the meeting together and who issued the invitation to him, really? but he recalls enough to have written a book that has been wildly successful for him, and he's writing a second one that comes out in january. lou, i asked him if we were going to find his books in fiction or nonfiction. it's amazing, he can remember nothing that we're asking hum, but he remembers enough to write these books. so there you have it, quite -- it was quite a day.

lou: and the information that was declassified by dni john ratcliffe and the basis for many of the questions today -- >> right. lou: it paints a very clear picture of the involvement of hillary clinton in the conspiracy to carry out what became an effort to overthrow president trump. >> right. lou: it seems to be no question about it. >> yeah, it's just -- lou: it's -- >> yeah. the thing is this -- lou: go ahead. >> -- i asked him if the i.g. report was right about him continuing to spy on the presidential campaign during january of 2017, and he went on to say he didn't think the i'm sorry g. had -- the i.g. had contradicted him. he is trying to rewrite history. he is trying to rewrite documents.

of course they were still spying. of course -- now, see, he answered that, but then he said he didn't remember who put together the january 5th meeting, and he couldn't recall, he hadn't read what was in peter strzok's handwritten notes about the logan act and some of those components. and, lou, here's the thing, i asked him who cooked up -- lou: which the vice president raised. >> right. that's exactly right. but, see, comey has no recollection of that. he said, oh, there was no plot. i said, you were spying on a citizen. who gave the order to carry this out? who did the dirty work on this? and, of course, he knew nothing, he saw nothing, he heard nothing. this is all foreign to him. but he was in the oval office for that meeting, but who said what and he just felt like obama was saying do a good job when he

said i hope you have the right people on this. it's pretty phenomenal. absolutely phenomenal. lou: it's -- the center of gravity of this, this conspiracy and these efforts to overthrow the presidency of donald trump keep moving closer and closer to the obama white house, do they not? the handwritten notes of john brennan, the head of the cia, and his role and the broad and, i think, surprising number of people in the administration who knew about hurricane crossfire and the efforts to spy on this president. >> right. lou: we -- do you feel we're a little disadvantaged because it took so long for senator graham to actually begin the investigation of the investigators? nearly a whole year and a half was wasted.

>> i, i think that one of the things that we have to look at is it took a while for us to get the information, and it took a little bit of time for the declassification process. and then there was the durham investigation which we are very hopeful we're going to hear from sooner rather than later. and as you have all of these moving parts, it took a little bit of time for us to get in the position that we could start these. now we are going to have mccabe in front of us, but i have to tell you, lou, i think for tennesseans that were watching this today, they probably were astounded that the fbi director could have been presiding over the fbi in the obama and then the trump administration, and all of this could be happening. it was taking place under his nose. he said he knew nothing.

network. president trump last night asking about ending critical race theory at federal agencies. the president's response left, well, no room for misinterpretation. >> i ended it because it's racist, i ended it because a lot of people were complaining that they were asked to do things that were absolutely insane, that it was a radical revolution that was taking place in our military, in our schools, all over the place. and you know it and so does everybody else -- >> why does -- >> and he would know it. >> -- racial sensitivity training, sir. >> if you were a certain person, you had no status in life. it was sort of a reversal. and if you look at the people, we would pay people hundreds of thousands of dollars to teach very bad ideas and, frankly, very sick ideas. and really they were teaching people to hate our country, and i'm not going to do that. i'm not going to allow that to happen. we have to go back to the core values of this country. they were teaching people that

our country is a horrible place, it's a racist place, and they were teaching people to hate our country, and i'm not going to allow that to happen. lou: and they were paying them handsomely to teach critical race theory as well. our next guest has been uncovering the critical race theory training within the federal government, and it is pervasive. president trump signed an executive order to stop it recently and followed that with another executive action. joining us tonight is christopher rufo, filmmaker, discovery institute, a think tank, and he has been at the forefront of the revelations that the country is coming to terms with right now. christopher, good to have you with us. did you notice the reference in the debate to sensitivity training rather than critical a race theory training? >> absolutely. it's really a form of psychological manipulation. it's abuse of language.

this isn't racial sensitivity training. i think everyone could support something which teaches you to treat other people as equals, no matter their racial background. this is something very different. it's an academic theory called critical race theory, and it advocates, in short, for the overthrow of the system of captain limb, meritocracy and even the constitution itself. it's a radical left-wing ideology. unfortunately, people have been gas lit into believing it's simply racial sensitivity training when nothing could be further from the truth, and i'm very glad to see the president standing firm and calling it like it really is. lou: and then the vice president used the expression racial sensitivity, insensitivity. this was a e peculiar use of language, i thought, when it's so important that we define the terms particularly for these two candidates who seek to lead the country for the next four years. on one hand, this president is

doing everything he can to end it despite it insinuation into nearly all of our major parts of our government. how, how likely is it that critical race theory has been totally he eliminated from every branch and agency? >> it's happening with really stunning speed. i've been getting reports from dozens of different agencies and offices. critical race theory trainings have been shut down, contracts canceled, speakers have been sent home. so there is a high level of compliance as well as a hotline if you see training in a federal agency, you can call them. but something that is really stunning that's also happened is that the executive order extends to private companies that do business with the government. so this is the majority of fortune 500 companies. i'm hearing reports that they're actually scrambling to reverse some of their h.r. policies and eliminate some of the trainings

with the divisive concepts of critical race theory. lou: corporate america has a real responsibility here because they are buying into all sorts of nonsense about which they the either have no true understanding, or they are a aligned with an interest group that is not, certainly, putting forward american values first. your thoughts about that. >> that's exactly right. think the die a namic -- dynamic at play is that corporate america over the last generation has achieved all of their economic goals. they have very low tax rates, free and fair trade around the world, they're enormously profitable, we have some of the most profitable companies in human history. but now what they're doing, because they have no use for the right anymore, the free market faction of conservative party, they're really buying into the kind of social status of the left. they're trying as hard as they can to insulate themselves from an attack on social issues. so they're really trying to play

the united states a racist, a man that i've known for 37 years, i'm going to get involved. i've got to get involved is and say he's not a racist. last night i heard a term, i heard a term, wanting him to denounce, and i said, no, that was a strange thing to ask because i've seen him denounce that many times. and i'm not sure why he had to denounce it again and again. i can tell you right now donald trump is not a racist, and i think that's what people need to know and judge him on the things that he's done, not what people tell you he's done. this man has done a lot of things. lou: yeah. i was taken, and i'd like to get your impression in that debate, the president a couple of times looked at biden as he was making some, making a scurrilous insult of one kind or another and didn't respond to it. the president maintained his cool throughout that debate. i thought at various points

most -- well, certainly i would have been more than a little upset by what biden was saying. he handled it well. but it's almost as though biden does not want to acknowledge at all the achievements of this president, wants to ignore entirely his record. i understand that might be politically beneficial to him, but it's also ignorant as it can be to treat the american people who are going to vote on november 3rd or that way, don't you think? >> well, i do think that, and that's the reason i got involved as well. this president should be, he should be given the credit for what he's done for america which is a lot. i think one of the biggest problems the democratic party has, they've nominated a guy that has 47 years in office and yet can you name me two things that he's tone for america? and -- done for america? and most of all, name me one thing he's done for african-americans, name me one thing he's done for

hispanic-americans. i can name you a bunch that donald trump's done for america. and i'm not taking anything away from vice president biden, i think he's a great man. i think he's a wonderful man. but being in office, when you were the vice president of a black president, most powerful man in the world, but yet a lot of these things donald trump has done for african-americans they could have done. they didn't do it. and yet i wanted the president last night to tell the people the things that he's done and no one wants to acknowledge. i hate to use this term, but you know what trump's everything? this president here is nominated for three nobel peace prize. do you know what that is? and from three different countries. what's interesting about that, these three countries don't have a dog in this fight right here. they don't have a dog in this fight. they've nominated him for three -- lou: right. >> no one has acknowledged yet. that's what trump's everything right there, right to this president. this president has been fighting

airlines are being automobile to go forward. remember, it was speaker pelosi who let us all go home in august and then called us back for emergency for the post office, and when republicans put on the floor a covid relief plan, they voted it down. now, i know you say that bill is $2.2 trillion, but when you read the fine line, it's really $2.6 trillion. and it's the same bill that they passed just a while ago that was dead. it mentions marijuana more than it mentions jobs. it still pays illegals. it still funds illegals released as prisoners from jail. but you know what -- lou: so she -- >> the only difference is she cuts funding to police. in the first bill it had $600 million for police. in her new bill, she has no funding for police. lou: well, it's, it's a strange thing to me that the democrats have embarkedded on a strategy

♪ ♪ lou: joining us now, as he does every wednesday on this broadcast, bob woodson, former civil rights activist, he headed the national urban league department of criminal justice. he is the founder of the woodson center which helps residents in low income neighborhoods. bob, great to see you, and i want to start with just getting your impression about the debate last night and the president's performance. >> i thought he did great. i was amazed, though, that chris wallace said -- asked him why

are you against race sensitivity training. and as chris rufo pointed out, that is not racial grievance. i was happy that chris has rooted it out and exposed it for the evil that it is. but i think it was alan patton who said it's not enough to, when you remove something in the court, to replace it with something of value. and that's why, and the gospel said if you remove a field of bees and you don't replant it with something, it'll grow back worse. that's why what we are doing is promoting an organization, the piney woods school. it is america's oldest black boarding school. 908 -- 1908, it was founded and on good christian values. it has resulted in thousands of children from if really challenging homes, 98% of them graduate from college.

so it is important, and they exemplify the values of this nation. and, therefore, lou, i think it's fine to address critical race theory, but we ought to replace it with something of value, and the piney woods school exemplifies the kind of american values that we all ought to support and make them successful. and that's why the woodson center is really sponsoring a fundraiser tonight so that we can promote and support an organization that trains inner city kids to embrace traditional values that's going to make them productive citizens. so it's important to get behind this. lou: historically black school, it is amazing to me that that
