president-elect today which we will get to, jeff flock at the airport, talking to travelers who were warned not to travel. gerri willis with the busiest shopping day of the year, let's start at the white house with encouraging vaccine news. >> astrazeneca the third major pharmaceutical company in recent weeks that the covid-19 vaccin e candidate, one of the ways you can describe, 70% effective but you've got to go into the breakdown to look at how all of this works. astrazeneca says when the first dose is given in full and another dose given after that a month later is about 62% effective. when a half dose was first given followed by the month later, the ethic as he jumped up to 90%. those behind the vaccine say they could potentially vaccinate more people faster. >> i think it's very promising the half in the full dose

it is not a miracle that we plan to be so, it's a miracle that the results are this good but when speaking about the transition, the amount of infrastructure that we set up for things that coronavirus testing where you have mobile units, pharmacies, essentially urgent care facilities that have been set up to reach populations that would otherwise be difficult to reach in a public health crisis like this, the transition is largely afforded or largely balanced by the current infrastructure the existing infrastructure that has been set up by the department of defense, dhs, hhs, the inner agency groups can really be utilized as we move into the

vaccine distribution phases. you have seen that in the comments made by the ceo of cvs, by the leadership and operation warp speed and i believe that will be the bedrock of the transition plan and also the bedrock of our capability to continue the good work the operation warp speed has already done. connell: let's talk about that a little bit, it sounds like you think written a pretty good position and were set up pretty well largely because of operation warp speed. next things we should watch for are what? the whole idea is to get the vaccine or vaccines where they are most needed, that starts with healthcare workers, how do you think it'll play out over the next few weeks and months? >> the interesting thing, each of the vaccines have benefits you can leverage and different

aspects of the vaccine that require different logistics. what you may see, for instance the pfizer vaccine which requires a different degree of inherent logistics to be distributed by large healthcare centers, you might see that in a greater quantity in hospitals, and a state run healthcare center that has set up to distribute the vaccine to largely populated areas, then you might see things like the logistics around my moderna allowing for longer shelf lives and therefore companies like cvs and other pharmacy companies being able to distribute those vaccines because they have the infrastructure to do so and when you see the global expansion on the vaccine you might see a vaccine like astrazeneca coming

into play where they have larger international production facilities that can potentially reach billions of doses. connell: final thing here, a timetable which is something of a gas but are you comfortable with saying all of us that want to be vaccinated will be able to do so by the spring, april of next year, is it a little further out than that? how do you see that knowing what you know. >> i think the at risk population should be helpful that they will be vaccinated by the spring, mid to late spring, i think the general population reaching the herd immunity.is more looking like the summer but with that i want to add in one caveat. the at risk population is who were trying to reach, what these

vaccines across the board have shown is the most severe cases were prevented by all of them, not just that you reduced infection or symptomatic cases but that you reduce hospitalizations in severe cases which are what put the most severe strain on our economy. connell: we see that in so many parts of the country now that we see the light at the end of the tunnel that you and i are talking about. we appreciate it, brandon daniels with us today, big news from the biden transition headquarters in wilmington, delaware, we have new reports this afternoon with the former fed chair janet yellen is a next pick to be the treasury secretary which comes on a day when mr. biden met a number of his national security choices, hillary vaughn joins us with the very latest. >> president-elect biden cabinet

mayor's guideline is first travel and that's really why we have it set up for those that travel and come back or come here to travel to have the ability to do that. not our recommendation on a public health side for the way to do things but we want to ensure testing is available for folks so they can get tested. >> there is similar long lines around the country, this is dallas and stadiums have become a favorite place, dodger stadium was packed, the rise in cases means arising testing going on, nationals park behind me becomes the latest super site for testing of the coronavirus, the test going on behind me are actually free. connell: are the rapid test or you have to wait a few days for the results? >> right here they do not have the rapid test they're using the pcr, the ones that go to the labs, it takes about 3 - 5 days is what they're telling people

politics seem to be that the president-elect is trying to please progressives and moderate in the coalition at least that is what were told, what you take away from the pick is. >> i don't know that the progressives are getting much out of the selections not just janet yellen but some of the others are getting diversity, i think there's something deeper going on, it's been reported janet yellen, anthony lincoln, possibly michelle at the fence, it's been reported many of them worked at the obama administration, joe biden the age of 78 understands that he wants to be surrounded by people who are familiar to him and more than that who are going to be loyal to his presidency, i think there's a sense inside the biden administration, biden circles that they cannot fully trust the

progressives, the progressives have agenda and policy set of their own and they would be willing to abandon joe biden if necessary to pursue those goals, people like janet yellen and anthony lincoln, i think biden feels he can trust them implicitly going forward. connell: that's interesting, the loyalty part of it. some other stories we want to hit you on, number one coming out of michigan, the state canvassing board has voted 3 - 1 to certify the results see the political report is a republican canvasser, everybody is looking at who is voting to certify and that potentially means joe biden wins michigan, the question is is it finally time and officially time to start an official presidential transition, gsa, the funds and all the rest. >> i think president trump is going to resist that as long as he can but things are falling in

place, to overturn the election, he would not only half to reverse michigan, he would have to reverse three states to get efficient electoral votes to turn the election around, were taken by michigan, pennsylvania, georgia and especially michigan and pennsylvania where tens of thousands of votes behind and as these challenges fall by the wayside, the president has been left in a difficult spot where there's nowhere else to go to try to reverse the election and in some point and accommodation will have to be made with the reality that joe biden is no doubt president-elect of the united states. connell: hearing that from republicans and business leaders and the like, i believe it's 3 a certification vote, stay with us, one more story that is a

bigger picture with the business is taking a bigger hit, not all states are now approaching lockdown the same way, ashley webster has been looking into this from orlando florida, he has the details. >> back on september the 25th, ron desantis lifted all covid-19 restrictions saying that every business has the right to operate and he says there will be no limitations. in that sense the economy and florida is far more open than others across the country but it does not mean the struggle is over, let's take a look at the jobless rates from states that are more open to states that are in more lockdown if you look at the state of florida in october the unemployment rate 6.4% and in texas another economy 6.9%

but then you take a look at the other side, california 9.3%, new york at 9.6%, much higher than that nationwide 6.9%, here in florida the businesses are seeing more hours open but that does not mean to say there are more customers to come in and take advantage of that, many of the people i spoke to in central florida say it is better but has a long way to go and i spoke with business owners who own a bar and live music venues and he's been closed down for seven months and if he does not get financial help soon, he and his industry took the business for good. >> 90% of us will go out of business, there is no way to dig out of a hole like that without the support. there is some people lucky enough to get state funding and i'm still trying to do that in florida but we need the federal funding to get out of it. >> we have seen more encouraging news out of the airports as we sell this past weekend a lot more people flying for the holiday and a tourism destination like here in orlando, that is good news but i

have to tell you it's a long way back from where it was before the pandemic. connell: a long way indeed. thank you. a quick thought on the red blue divide between how the governors are handling it in the economic consequences of that until we get a vaccine in a few months. >> it is fascinating there is a red blue divide. i think a lot of the democratic politicians are afraid and thinking about their legacy how history will judge them and they're afraid history will blame them from death from covid and coronavirus but they don't think history will blame them for small business bankruptcies or school years lost or psychological depression so they are opting on the side of doing these lockdowns to avoid death at any cost, i will tell you i have to give credit to run desantis in florida or governor greg abbott in texas who are trying to strike a balance

small artistic crew, we were able to partner with a long standing goodwill theater in johnson city new york to bring people to johnson city and to create the musical theater films you tape them and people can watch them on youtube how does that process work out because you think you have to test people a lot. how does the work. >> a lot of testing involved, following guidelines from new york state and the union for the performers which had extensive but well maintained or outlined guidelines to have people tested and lots of ppe and requirements for people to basically stay fairly isolated and within the pod that we were creating they

were requirements to segregate parts of the filming locations and would not filming the for underperformers were masks and other ppp all the time. connell: and you were able to control the virus? >> nobody tested positive and we've been able to release all those films that we filmed in bingen tim and we have a few more in the pipeline we will be releasing in december. connell: how about the actors, it's obvious he different from what they're used to but it's great to have some work i am sure after they've been out of work so long. what did they think about doing things this way? >> everybody was really excited to get back to work because particularly because of the pandemic, particularly in new

york, the industry has absolutely gone away and folks were both excited to have an opportunity to go to work but also my other colleagues they felt really safe and the precautions we put in place, the plans we put in place were ones gutfeld reasonable, they felt ways to move forward and to work safely, particular when you're talking about actors who did have to work without masks some of the time, the cautions of a dual testing system and they felt like those cautions really help them to bring their best work forward in the new way for us as a theater company to be creating recording product that was going to try to approximate

ever made and really the first designed to take a crack at tesla which, of course, is the giant right now. ford is hoping that the price point is good compared to other evs on the market. this one you can get for about $35,000 for the base model if you factor in the government tax credit that you can get which is about $7500. and they're also banking on the mustang brand luring in customers, maybe people who haven't driven a ford in a while or ever would turn to ford because they know mustang. this is not the only iconic brand that ford is going electric with. they're also coming out in 2022 with an electric f-150 truck. that is the top selling truck in the country, and they're hoping that it is as popular as it is in gas in electric. as i come around the bend here, of course, there's a lot of investment in electric right
